  1. Glen "Wheeler" Hassler Memorial Gymnasium, and that's way to much to type out, so one of us shortened it to the Wheelhouse. I mean would you wanna type that out?
  2. yeah, we ran flex so much I could probably still run it today. but most of our teams got a lot of points on fast breaks, then if we didn't, the only offensive set we ran was flex. You think one offensive set is all these high schoolers have to run? No, so its different. You are kidding me about Steve never coaching boys right? My team won three jr. high state titles with him as coach? wow sounds like you know nothing about PC basketball. I'm not dissing Coach Parris in anyway, the stuff he teaches at the elementary level is key, but I think PC needs someone younger and more innovative at the jr. high level, I've heard Bibb wants to do it as well, so that he can develop his players more before they get to high school.
  3. Coach Parris deserves some of the credit for all those teams, but not all of it. Coach Parris does a great job from the grades of about 3rd to 6th grade. Believe me, I know, I played for him. He is great at teaching kids the basics, such as defenses, full court presses, and other basics. Coach Parris doesn't really coach offenses. He does a great job of making the kids tough and getting them interested in basketball. He did a great job with taking us kids to all the AAU trips too. Where the difference is, is their isn't anyone at the jr. high level to teach offenses and take these kids skills to the next level. Steve Asberry did a great job of doing so for a long time. Thats where we are missing out now. Don't discredit what Charles Mitchell, Mike Buck, Eric Mitchell, Brent Smith, and Coach Bibb have done, they were and are all great coaches. I'd like to see any of us try and coach as well as they did. And do you even know anything about PC? Anyone from their would know its Mitchell with two L's. And Chip Buck has never been the Coach at PC, I'm guessing you mean Mike Buck. They were not just handed a team, they made it into what it was, their work hadn't been done what so ever.
  4. PC has fell off because these current players have had little to no playing experience before this year, I think we are all just gonna have to be patient. I think this is a major turning point in the season for PC. This team needs to start playing up to its potential, to start making plays instead expecting everyone to hand it to them because they were Pickett Co across their chest. The ways of the world are that life isn't fair and that only the strong survive. I say Bibb needs to stick with his starting five, cause they have earned the right to start. But I think where we need to start looking is not only to this year, but also to next year, and the year after. I think Joe Dowdy, Sam Cummings are gonna be solid for this year and next, Both have a chance to be thousand point guys. Jacob Brown plays scared, his defense is sub-par and when he isn't shooting or shooting well, he has no right to even be on the court. John Sells, he plays hard, tough on defense, and a guy you want to be on the court with ya, but his offense is non existent and he can't give them points in the paint that this team needs. Ben Aaron needs to take some pointers from his uncle Nathan and start learning how to be ready to catch and shoot, because teams are giving him that shot and he is passing on it 75% of the time. Heath Elder has the chance as a sophomore to be a really good center in this district for the next three years, he can score when they get him the ball, he's physical, tough as nails, and I don't understand why Bibb doesn't give him more mins. I know he's only a sophomore, but he is the only shot at a scoring threat in the paint other than Cummings and Dowdy slashing inside. Another thing that is wrong with this program is in the jr. high ranks. The coaching down there just isn't what it used to be, so players aren't getting as developed as they once where. Once players could come in as freshman and play major rolls. We've got to do something about our jr. high system. I don't know, that's my two cents worth, I guess things aren't as bad as they seem and their is a sun over the horizon somewhere, and I'm just a frustrated bobcat fan.
  5. Anyone think this one will be a good game? I haven't seen Clarkrange play but I heard they only lost by 9 to Clay Co., so I figure them to be pretty solid. PC is up and down. They started the season 0-3, then went on to win four in a row, now they've lost two district games in a row, by 20, but those games where on the road. PC plays better at home than on the road. This team is young and is gonna be up and down all season long. If they can play better defense, and can get some points inside the 3 pt line in their half court sets, this team will be much better, and this game will be a lot better than some will think, if they don't Clarkrange can make it as bad as they want to. I'll pick Clarkrange by atleast 10 at the moment, because PC has yet to show me that they can beat a good opponent.
  6. That game was just ridiculously called. PC had 35 of those 72 total fouls(both teams) in the first half. Sometimes I think the refs know its gonna be a big game and they ref it tight. I wish they would let them play but call fouls when needed. Their were way too many touch fouls on both teams the other night. But I've came to expect poorly called games from Kevin Case. The other two refs are young and have no part reffing big games such as that. I mean was poorly called on both teams. PC had four starters foul out, and I know atleast two girls maybe three fouled out for JC, that is just ridiculous. That game had the most fouls I had ever seen, and I was there for that PC/ Clinton Co, Ky boys game last year when Clinton Co. had all but four players foul out. Let the girls play. Everyone comes out to see a good girls game, and it always seems like the refs want to mess it up my having to show off how much they can blow there whistle. Now would the outcome have been any different without the refs being so whistle happy? Probably not, but I like PC's chances better with their other four starters in the game. Because after the first five and Tarah being out, the first three off the bench are freshmen. Gibson is a beast, and she's only a junior, so when Garner gets back to help her this team could definately make a run. Garner is alot like Gibson with a little more inside game to go along with Garrett. Garrett can be dominant as well, her problem is she tends to get in foul trouble. I'd say with a better officiated game and Garner back, PC will make the next one at PC a more interesting game.
  7. I'm here, I just don't get on here starting topics. I mean do I have any reason to? Right now our boys team is young and inexperienced. I ranted and raved last season about how good our boys team was, but all along I said this season would be long, with us getting somewhat better by the time season's end is here. As far as the girl's go, they are underachieving, badly, Jackson co is a tough place to play, the refs didn't help by calling touch fouls on both teams. PC had like 35 fouls called on them alone in the first half. Case has a major distaste for PC basketball. But lets not forget that PC girls are playing without their 2nd best player, Tarah Garner right now, she'll be out til after the first of the year, and it is really showing. Kayla Gibson is good, and she had like 40 points tonight, but she needs some help, and when they get Tarah back this team will be much improved. Monterey played good basketball the other night, i'll give them that, PC couldn't make a shot and most of that was because of monterey's defense. So if someone posts a topic about PC boys or PC girls, then I usually talk on it, but noone from whoever we play, or anyone from byrdstown starts one, so I don't feel the need to start them myself. Their ya go, glad I'm famous enough to be in the title of a thread.
  8. Clarkrange, RBS, Watertown, Temple, some of the worst as far as needing updated or just weird seating or lighting.
  9. Pickett Co. has a great gym set up, considering how old the gym is. 1500-1800 seat capacity. Wheeler Hassler Memorial Gymnasium or the "Wheelhouse" as we like to call it, great noise, fans are load and very supportive. One of the toughest places to play around.
  10. Girls game will be good, because for the first time since the late 90s PC girls are legit and can play. LA girls are good i think, so this will be a good one. The boys lost 4 senior starters 2-1,000 point scorers (TC Capps and Brent Logan) and 1-2,000 point scorer (Jacob Wright), they lost all that scoring, strength, and height. Everyone that didn't graduate is back, just not a lot of experience.
  11. PC girls are 1-0 for whoever asked, Westmoreland girls where supposed to come to PC thursday night, but didn't so they have only played one game, but looked good. The boys tallest players are 6-2 or 6-3, and they come off the bench, Bibb's starting five is mostly around or below 6 foot tall. No real strengths with this team. These guys have started two games together, so its a little early to say they have any strengths, their defense is good at times, but then at other times it isn't, so is their perimeter shooting is good with 3 or 4 guys, but they are gonna have to learn to drive to the basket and get some points in the paint. Folks this isn't your typical dominant PC team, they are down, way down from usual, but so is most of class A. Here is PC's Starting five as of the first two games, I'll list them as who is better.... Jacob Brown SG- Senior 6'2" Joseph Dowdy PF-Junior 6'3" Sam Cummings PG- Junior 5'9 or 10"? John Sells SF-Senior 6'0" Kevin Connor F- Senior 5' 11" Major Bench minutes: Ben Aaron SG- Sophomore 6'1"? Caleb Cummings PG- Sophomore- 5'10"? Stewart Rich C- Junior 6'3" Heath Elder C- Sophomore 6'3" I think PC's best lineup, the one that can score the most points, is when Brown, Dowdy, either of the Cummings boys, Aaron, and either Rich, Elder, or Sells is on the floor, gives them size and shooting. Bibb will have it figured out before long, this team improved alot from the first game to the last one.
  12. PC is 0-2. This team isn't very good right now, young, one starter from last year. This game could be 25+ at half time and 40+ by the end of the game. If you are wanting to watch a heck of a ball game, better get there early to watch the girls. Dunn could have 30 in the first half. LA and PC's benches will both be playing in this game.
  13. This team looks poised to make a run at Jackson co and Clarkrange for the district. Same team from last year pretty much, without Lyndsey Wright, which turns out to be a good thing. This team has something they haven't had for many years, and that's a surplus of big post players. Brittany Garrett, the Owen girl, and now these two big freshman they have, maybe they will be able to get points in the paint and keep Clarkrange and JC from scoring as many easy paint points. This team has the right mix of guard play, post play, good young players, and experienced players. This team looks to be a force in 7a not only this year, but for a few years to come. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Brent has these girls more fun to watch than the boys team, cause they run the ball up the court, play that full court press, its fun to watch.
  14. Three words....Young, Young, and Young.....ok, maybe that's four. This team lost four senior starters, three of those were 1,000 point scorers. I haven't seen them play yet, but my brother plays on the team, Dad says if they can learn to play defense they will greatly improve. They have good size, but they aren't really that quick. Most of these guys are sophomores and juniors. Very few seniors, this team is probably a year away from being the same ole pickett co we're all used to. They will be starting 2 seniors, and three juniors. This team won't score a lot of points, one of the seniors is a defensive specialist, 10 points a game would be a lot for him. The other guy is gonna have to score 20 or 25 a night for this team to compete. The juniors can be really good, if they play up to their capabilities. The high upside to this team is in its sophomores and a couple of freshman. Heath Elder has a chance to be good, if he'll get motivated. Ben Aaron and Caleb Cummings can be very good. And in the freshman class, Scott Jolly and Chase Young have a chance to be very good, they have to toughen up and gain a little size. The future is bright for PC, just not the immediate future, this team needs time to mature.
  15. RBS will be good, this year and for the next couple of years, so will JC. Clay Co. has all their eggs in this year's basket. JC, RBS, PC will be the big contenders after this year. Don't put too much faith in how good kids are looking in 8th grade or 9th grade because they are still that, kids. In 10th, 11th, and 12th grade, that's were these guys turn into young men, real basketball players, this is were coaches turn these kids into real ball players. So we'll see how the district turns out in a couple of years, but right now its about this season.
  16. Well, we've got about 3 weeks til season starts? Its gonna be fun to watch. I think as it stands right now, Its Clay Co. in a league of their own, then everyone else is very close to each other. But you wait, by season's end, one or two of these other teams will have closed the gap somewhat. Clay Co. should win this district easy, they shouldn't lose a game, because they are much older than all the other district teams, but I will go out and say they lose one game, at least, in district this year. It is very hard to go undefeated in district play, Jackson Co. did it two years ago, that team was better than this Clay Co. team is, and that team had some luck to help them as well. Last years Pickett Co. team was better than this Clay Co. team, and they couldn't go undefeated, its tough. Not very many teams have done it in the last ten years.
  17. Temple and Mannassas- Mr. Basketball- Sexton
  18. Clay Co. is the best team in the district for sure. But they could lose 4 games in the district this year easily. Because I think that this district will be that even by January. JC, Clarkrange, PC, RBS, they will all be ready by then, to compete with Clay Co. Listen, Clay Co. is good, best team in the district, but they aren't that good. I think the loss of Birdwell is gonna hurt more than people let on.
  19. Umm, I don't know if you think i'm complaining or something, but I'm not. I think its amazing what PC girls and guys have been able to do with such a small sample of kids to choose from. JC being able to do what they did in AA was impressive as well, not taking anything away from them either. But its easy to move down to AA and dominate when you are one of the largest schools in single A. I also don't think PC will finish last, PC is virtually unknown at this point because they lost almost 5,000 points to graduation, so that's why they where picked last. They won't be there at years end. PC has made it to the district championship since '90, and many of those years people didn't think they could make it. Not saying that this won't be the year they don't make it, cause it very well could be.
  20. It's gonna be another great year for 7a. Clarkrange just got a hole lot better over the summer, Jackson Co will be just as good I think. I think PC will be a lot better than the so called "experts" think. Now can they beat these other two times every time out? No way, but they could pull an upset in the semi finals of the region I think. and if you can do that, you've got a paved road to the state championships. I think Coach Smith is really gonna have the girls ready to play in his second season with them, but still, they may be one more year away. Who is better Rogers or Brown? Flip a coin....
  21. Your right there swanson, that's the way everyone in this district is next year except Clay co. PC gonna be playing a lot of juniors and sophomores, this year. RBS and JC are gonna be a lot like that as well. I think its gonna be fun to watch all these young teams mature. RBS, JC, or PC could all finish 2nd in the district this season, and in this district, you just never know. I think Clay co., definitely has the best team in this district, but they aren't so good that one or all of the teams behind them could beat them. I think there is a lot of parity in 7a this year. I just saw the enrollment for the schools coming up for season after this one. Thought I'd list them......now this was for football, so clarkrange wasn't listed since they play with York. School #Students Jackson Co 511 Clay Co 352 Monterey 350 RBS 234 Pickett Co. 187 So it looks like Jackson co will be in single A once again in 2009. Kinda surprising, I had heard they were gonna have to move back up to AA. Kinda amazing also how PC can compete with 2 schools that have almost two and three times their enrollment.
  22. Gonna be interesting to watch. I think Clay Co. is the best team in the region, but are they that much better than the rest of the district? I don't know, maybe at season's start, they will be.....but this district is young, and they are gonna get much more mature. I think RBS, PC, JC are all gonna be a lot better by seasons end. Should Clay Co. be the favorite in this district and in region? I think so, they've earned that right. But I think the last two season's has proved a lot when both the favorites went down in region. Anything can happen, and sometimes its easier to be the chaser than it is the chased.
  23. Jackson Co is the only team to go undefeated since '03. Its really hard to do, because by in large the top 2 or 3 teams in district are fairly close. Last years PC team was better than this Clay Co. team, and even they couldn't go undefeated. This team isn't bigger, stronger....they are more experienced. If anything they have lost something. I think Clay Co fans don't realize how much they are gonna miss Birdwell. Much the same way people that PC thought they wouldn't miss Brett Roddy, but they did. Now, its very well possible that Clay Co. goes undefeated, but they could easily lose a game somewhere during the season. I mean did you expect them to lose to RBS or Westmoreland last year? I doubt it, but it happened. RBS could easily sneak up on this team again, Clarkrange could easily take a game, PC towards the end of the year could, and JC definately has a chance as well, not to mention this may be the best team Monterey has had since '01-02. I think its Clay Co's district to win or lose, but I think some where, some how they will lose one game to one of their districts rivals.
  24. Thats probably the biggest win they'd had since they won district in '03, so I wouldn't blame them, wouldn't blame them at all.
  25. Yeah, "clash of the titans" man you are funny fanatic. I think PC has more players on its basketball team than it does on its football team.....haha......no really, I'm serious. Right now Clay co is here and................................................everyone else is right here. By season's end I think JC, PC, RBS, Monterey and Clarkrange will close that gap to.............here. JC and PC are young and are like fine wines, they'll only get better with the more games these young guys play. PC lost something like 4500 points with the four seniors they lost, I'm sure JC was similar. Upchurch could single handedly beat every team in the district in one game, he is that good of an individual player. Monterey and RBS have been young and are older now, and are ready to take their shot at the district title. I mean didn't RBS beat Clay Co last year? I'm not sure if that was them or not. That could certainly happen again this year. 7a this year, is really gonna be fun. I've got my popcorn and front row seat ready to go.
