  1. The Pirates will compete in a 1A/2A region, but once the season is over, they will be in the 1A playoffs and Boyd will be in the 3A playoffs. I don't get what you are trying to say here. If SP wins the gold ball this year, they will more than likely win 3 or 4 in a row. Great game tonight by both teams. I will say that Boyd is a much improved team from the one SP played last year....that may be why some of us did not give them much respect with our predictions. There were a lot of slobber knocking licks on the field tonight and I can guarantee that there will be several sore boys tomorrow morning. SP's passing game was off tonight, which was not a good thing because Boyd shut down the run game for the most part of the game. Hopefully we will learn from this game and improve even more. Great win Pirates!!
  2. I was told by someone this morning that one of the backup quarterbacks for the Pirates was kicked off of the team yesterday? Can anyone confirm that? I hope that is not the case because if Robinson is injured, SP would need someone to step up.
  3. Hey moron, it was 39-0 at the end of the first quarter. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but 2 scores were defensive touchdowns, 1 was a kickoff return for a touchdown, and another was a punt return for a touchdown. This was all done in the first quarter. The starters were pulled after the first quarter ended so another 40 points were scored by our second team and freshmen. How is that running up the score? It is not like SP was running reverses and throwing bombs in the 2nd half. You can??™t tell the young players to just run a couple of yards and fall down??¦they want to compete and score too. Trousdale is definitely a premier program, and Mount Pleasant may be too (I don??™t know much about them), but to consider your private school as premier is a joke. How far have you advanced in the playoffs?? How many state titles have you won?? Until you can beat the big boys in 1A, don??™t get on here and run your mouth. One more thing, if you team is so great, give Coach Grider a call and see if you can schedule a game with the Mighty Pirates next season??¦.we might possibly have an opening for you.
  4. Mike, I have to agree with your post here. Boyd is good, but I just don't think they are Tyner good. I have always heard the bigger they are, the harder they fall. David should have a huge game...along with the rest of the Pirates. My prediction is the same as yours: Pirates - 35 Wannabe Pirates - 14
  5. You know nothing about this game do you? SP pulled the first string after the first quarter and at that time it was 39-0. Everyone on the team played plus the band and the cheerleaders. Whitwell was just totally outmatched. SP could have put 150 on them easy if they had wanted to, but our coaches have more class than that. The second and third string scored the rest of the points, but from what I saw on the replay SP was running off tackle and up the middle. Before you open your mouth, make sure you have all of the facts.
  6. I am guessing you are referring to Ronnie Griffith #40 on the 1999 team. He was tough...I loved to see him play along with just about that whole team. I don't see how you can say that Boyd "handed" them the game. The 1999 team was just better than the Bucs that year. We experienced the same situation in I think 2002?? The 2 losses SP had were to Boyd and in both games SP had turnovers that definitely cost them the game.
  7. Thanks for setting me straight there svcfan....I thought it was the tailback, but it was the quarterback. I was trying to remember why a certain person was playing quarterback that game. Eddie was definitely missed.
  8. I think you need to go back and see who the seniors were on this team. There was talent on the 1996 team, but the majority was from the sophmore and freshmen class. It is hard to compare the past SP backs with the current ones now. Each has something that makes them special, but my personal favorite was Sam Pickett. He is probably the fastest back I have seen personally and would hit you.
  9. The 1996 Pirate team was very young and lost their starting tailback the week of the Boyd Buchanan game, so I don't see where you are going there. Throw in a quarterback that threw 4 or 5 interceptions and you can see how that loss happened. That Boyd team was scrappy but was no where near as talented as the ones they had in the late 90's and 2000-2003. The freshman on that SP team were the seniors that won the 1999 state title. There may have been speed, but very little experience. I think Boyd is a good team, but they have not seen a complete team like SP. With that said, I still feel like SP will pull this one out by 21-28 points. GO PIRATES!!!!!
  10. Trousdale County is always a concern. They have always been a well coached team that does not make mistakes to beat themselves. SP scrimmaged them in the spring and beat them, but I don't take scrimmage games as proof that we can beat them now. The other team from their region, Friendship Christian, is a good team as well. If SP gets to the state game again this year, they will have to beat both of these teams. I think they can do it, but they will both be good games.
  11. This is the last big game for the Pirates until the playoffs. Boyd comes into this game playing good football and an impressive win over Red Bank. However, I don't think they have seen a team as balanced, strong, and as athletic as the Pirates. SP had a stiff test a week ago against Tyner, but I just don't think that Boyd has the athletes or the speed that Tyner does across the board. Unless the Pirates come out in this game overconfident or turn the ball over several times, I see them winning this one by 21. GO PIRATES!!!!
  12. The Pirates will roll in Whitwell tonight.....it will be 28-0 before most of the Pirates fans get in their seats. I hope the starters get a few reps before the 1st quarter ends. My prediction: Mighty Pirates - 70 Whitwell Kittens - 0 GO PIRATES!!!!!!!
  13. I think the coaches had a good game plan...especially with the defense (10 to 11 in the box) that Tyner used against South Pittsburg. They decided that the run was not going to beat them and sold out to stop it. We probably could have pounded it all night for 3 to 4 yards a carry, but the best chance for winning was throwing the rock. If a few throws were more accurate or had been caught, SP could have possibly blown this game open. If Bibbs does not fumble the ball in the second quarter, the score could have easily been 21-0....but good teams make plays and that is what Tyner did all night. Unlike an earlier post on this thread where I posted about playing muffin teams, I do enjoy good football games....but I don't see any other real competitive games except for maybe Boyd. With that said, let's move on and start our gauntlet of muffin teams until the playoffs. GO PIRATES!!!!!!!!!
  14. I am not going to start a paper war with any fellow Pirate fan, but I think anyone that reads this thread would tell you that the region teams SP is playing are not caliber teams, but they have to play them...heck our sophmores and freshman could beat most of them. All I meant by my comment above was that I am sure they were tired because they have not been in a game like that all year. Tyner brought more to the table (speed, size, depth) than any team the Pirates have faced this year or any we will see in the playoffs. It is a game I hope is kept on the schedule for the next few years. It will be a game that helps win or lose. I by no means was saying this to take anything away from the team. Just calm down....I have been a faithful Pirate fan since around 1980 so don't go acting like you know more about Pirate football than I do. This team has alot of potential and if they reach it will be as good as the 2007 squad. Oh by the way, I am very confident that SP will defeat the Bucs.....but from the schedule I have the Tigers are next!
  15. Thank goodness the Pirates are playing a ???muffin??? team this week. That bunch at Tyner never backed down and just about gutted out a win! SP was tested, and I am sure a few of them were tired and sore after that game. When I was a kid, the Whitwell game was never a sure win. Hopefully with a new coaching staff, this will change. With that said, I think the Pirates will roll this week??¦.possibly reaching the century mark. Jones, Bibbs, and Mitchell will run all over this bunch from beginning until at least halftime??¦.they have to rest up for that showdown with Boyd Buchanan on October 10th. Just think, the Pirates could win both regions two years in a row!! Go Pirates!!!!
  16. What a great game last night! This one definitely lived up to my expectations...just less scoring than what I expected. Both defenses played well. I definitely think SP will benefit from this game knowing that they can win a close one. I really feel like we will not face another team with the talent and speed of Tyner. Both teams made mistakes, but all in all it was a great high school football game. Good luck to Tyner the rest of the year! As someone else mentioned, I hope we can keep this game on the schedule next year. Go Pirates!!!
  17. I appreciate it! I will see you and Pirate Mike at the game! GO PIRATES!!!!!!
  18. PirateTom, they have the time in the paper as 7:30 est (6:30 cst). Are you sure of the time? It will not matter for me because I am going straight from work here in Chattanooga to Tyner's stadium.
  19. It is almost time for the big game. I have looked forward to this game since last year's nailbiter at Beene Stadium. I don't feel like Tyner will come out flat as they did last week. That is not taking anything away from the Warriors for you Jasper fans...just the facts. I believe if these two teams played again it would be a different outcome....sorry I got off topic. I see this as a very physical game with hard hitting on both sides of the ball. Tyner does have a little size advantage, but I believe the Pirates will be a little more disciplined and will pull this one out by 2-3 tds. My prediction: SP -35 Tyner - 21
  20. I will have to say from what I have heard that Jasper just outplayed/outhustled Tyner. Jasper deserves all of the credit for that win, but I still think if they played South Pittsburg 10 times this year, they would not even be close in any of those games. SP just has too much talent. I really don't think that Jasper would want to play the Pirates again. With that being said, I wish Jasper good luck the rest of the season. The Pirates will have a mad Tyner team on their hands Friday night and will need to execute well on both sides of the ball to keep this game from being like last year. I know Tyner has loads of talent and will be out to avenge that loss from 2007. I think this is the game that David Jones and the Pirates have been waiting for all year. I think he will show up big on both sides of the ball, along with several other aspiring Pirates.
  21. This team??™s continuity has been my big question since the Pirates won the championship last year. We had several strong senior leaders on that team. I have not seen any of the kids this year really step up yet??¦..BUT we have not really been in a big game yet. That will all change next week when the Pirates go to Tyner. This game should show if SP can handle a team that has just as much talent, size, and speed that they have. I also want to see how they will play in a ???hostile??? environment. If the Pirates get very far this year in the playoffs, they will have to travel either the third or fourth round. I think this will be a good game for them, win or lose to see where they stand against a talented team and how they will handle themselves on the road.
  22. I am not going to say I told you so, because it has already been said too many times to count....but I was pretty close with my pregame prediction (42-14). SP did not play their best game last night, but they did enough to dispose of the Jasper Warriors. This team if they work hard can be very good by season's end. It is hard to believe that SP has this good of a team again this year. Hopefully they can keep their head on straight and work hard all season long. It is nice to have the bragging rights again this year!! SP was not on the winning side the whole time I was in high school, which was mainly due to all of the talented players for the mighty Warriors in the 90's. This Warrior team just has a few kids that would have played on those teams. Not running any of the boys in the ground, just calling it like I see it. Good luck to the Warriors the rest of the season. Good Game Pirates!!
  23. BigJ, we will see if that smarty pants attitude shows back up on this forum later. I was actually talking about other folks, including the Warrior players bragging about beating school for the blind and school for the deaf....but I guess it is too hard for you to read too. One more thing on the Jamboree and then I will let that go.....Have you ever thought that we had no idea what type of offense this NEW team would be running? I guess that one was too hard for you to figure out. Anyone that has played in a Jamboree would know that, at least I remember it. I am getting ready to go to the game and all I have to say is that the Warriors might as well look forward to baseball season because the Pirates are going to start off their season with a beating!!! See everyone after the game. Hope both teams are injury free and play hard. Go Pirates!!!! The only Thunder that will be heard once the game starts is the beating your Warriors will be taking each play. Go Pirates!!!!
