  1. If they wanted some competition they should have played the Lady Landers (State Tournament Class A) two years in a row, or maybe they thought better of it...They were better than West Greene and gave Boone a fit both times they played this year.
  2. Hampton High School is looking for a couple of teams, both boys and girls, to play in their annual Christmas Tournament. The dates are Dec. 26,27,29. For more information contact Boys Coach Bud Hazelwood @ 423-725-5220 or 423-542-0995, or Girls Coach Leslie Campbell @ 423-725-5200. [Edited by deputydog on 4-10-03 6:16A]
  3. Chris Vaught of Hampton High School. He is definitely the man with the plan. Does a great job with the players and has a good rapport with the coaches and faculty.
  4. LL how could you forget or leave Glenda Blevins off of your list from Hampton High?
  5. Chris Vaught (I hope I spelled it right) at Hampton High School. He is a very dedicated and tireless worker who never gets the credit he deserves.
  6. You are so right Tdog. It is a great loss to lose a person like Ricky. I had the priviledge of knowing Ricky for many years and greatly enjoyed being around him. He played the game the way it was supposed to be played, HARD. This is just another sad reminder that life is precious and one should enjoy their loved ones every second of every day. Words do not do justice at times like this but they do bring back good memories. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Whitehead family. And to you Tdog, a good mark for you.
  7. I second that...Congratulations to Coach Campbell and the Lady Blazers...Coach Campbell is often overlooked despite the great job that he does year in and year out, as well as the players who play HARD at both ends of the floor...Once again, well done ladies...
  8. I know they are in AA but both Happy Valley and Unicoi Co. made it to the state finals before losing. Happy Valley made it in '88 or '89 while Unicoi Co. made it in '91 before losing to South Greene, the year that they played five times.
  9. Moore Co.-44 Cloudland-37 Congratulations Lady Landers on a great season. Moore Co. outscores the Lady Landers 17-6 in the final quarter for the win.
  10. What is everyone talking about with xbballxx? I don't see his thread on here? Has he taken it off or what? Hablo you need to do some more detective work and find out what the deal is...
  11. Science Hill fails to go to the state tournament and everyone says that they are finished...Get a life...Some of you other schools would love to have their "down" years...If you think that they are finished you'd better think again. Let's see...they haven't been to the 'Boro...one year...how long has it been since Kingsport has been...1992 maybe...no comparison but keep on dreaming, maybe someday you will turn into Science Hill.
  12. I'm not a wannabee, I am from Hampton and proud of it!!
  13. Elizabethton will most likely win the game but games are not played on paper. Remember the N.C. State win in '83 over Phi Slamma Jamma and the Villanova win over Georgetown in '85. Sometimes things can happen that are unexpected. Johnson Co. has a huge task and will have to play their best game and hope that Elizabethton is off. Like I said it is not likely but that is why they play the games.
  14. lander87 this is getting old. Why don't you take over next season so we can all get on here and bash you. I will take up for Coach Smith. He was simply trying to find someone, anyone to do what he was asking...throw the ball inside. The grade of the player did not matter, he was simply trying to find people to do what he thought was best for the team. Would you not do that? Isn't that what a good Coach would do, try to find the right combination? I feel that you are fortunate to have Coach Smith. He has brought Cloudland hoops a LONG way in a short period of time. The Coach always get's the blame but never the credit. It is easier to blame one person than a whole team, even though it may be unfair criticism. But that is what happens with fair weather fans...
  15. What makes you say that Coach Daniels helped drive the program in the ground?
  16. Excellent post tincup. Another good mark for you.
  17. Stock up on Goody powders and Rolaids. Always be up front with your players and parents. Let them know your expectations and rules.
  18. Patience, fairness and the ability to be a good communicator are also qualities that a good coach must possess, atleast to me. [Edited by deputydog on 3-3-03 8:33A]
  19. Congratulations to Coach Fisher and the Lady Blues. Best of luck in the Regional Tournament.
  20. I believe the girls start at 7:00 and the boys at 8:30. osubrutus will have to confirm this.

  22. Do it now...you can't build a reputation on what you are going to do. Never Quit...There is nothing less important than the score at halftime. The mighty oak was once a little nut that stood it's ground. If you don't believe in yourself, chances are no one else will either. Everyone has a fair chance to be as great as he/she pleases. To expect defeat is nine-tenths of defeat itself. Champions are willing to do something they hate to accomplish something they love.
  23. Knowing Coach Blevins like I do, I can proudly say that I would be very happy if he were my son's coach. I want a coach to instill pride and discipline into the team and give them a sense of work ethic, because nothing in life will be handed to them, contrary to what some believe. It sounds to me like the player and father are both "opera singers", all about me,me,me. In the long run the team will be better off without them, but you hate to see all the hard work that they have put in during the season to prepare for tournaments go all for naught. Keep up the good work Coach Blevins...
  24. To me, it doesn't matter what grade a player is in only their performance on the court. Vince is a very intimidating force each team has to deal with when they play the Cyclones but teams don't devise ways to prevent him from scoring like they do for the Lindholm kid. It is like the old argument from the NBA about who was better Shaq or Hakeem. The argument was if both were 6'0 tall which would be the best player? If Vince were not as big as he is would he still score as many, I think not. Size does matter but should not be the determining factor when selecting an MVP. There are quite a few players in the conference who have had good seasons this year but none as good as Lindholms', which makes him very deserving.
  25. Well said lazarus. Sounds to me like the team is better off without the player and the parent. It is a shame though that some parents try to help the coach do his job and wind up hurting the team and in the long run their son as well.
