  1. Nice post Maynardette. We in Hampton are also proud of the 'Dogs. They have improved tremendously over the course of the season. Hopefully this will carry over into next week and the playoffs. I too wish the Highlanders the best of luck in the upcoming playoffs.
  2. Who is Hancock Co.'s new coach? And, why did coach Seal decide to get out of coaching with such a good team coming back?
  3. Sure Coach Campbell is not happy with this mess but he has too much class to run the score up on anybody. He hasn't done it in 30+ years and I don't see him starting now, no matter how mad he is. Now instead of driving "up the creek" to play the Rangers, Hampton will be driving to Knoxville to play Catholic.
  4. The probability of coaches getting raises and/or pay equalization is like the myth of pay equalization for Teachers. It is not going to happen. We can only dream. I would like to see them reward coaches for years on the job with a little raise each year. Some systems pay the coaches a percentage of their teaching salary for each year taught/coached up until a certain number of years where they eventually max out. A person should not work at something for x number of years and not get some kind of raise. I'm sure that there are many views on this matter though.
  5. Yes I know J.R very well. As for him posting on coacht, I kind of doubt it. He hasn't really made it in to the world of computers yet.
  6. This is all much adieu about nothing. Hopefully everything will be proven on the field come playoff time, then there can be no debate who the best team is regardless of which region of the state they may be from. Most polls go by what the teams have done in previous years anyway.
  7. Which J.R. are you referring to?
  8. Don't say that no one will play them, because Hampton plays them twice during the season now so that they would have enough games. And with two more teams being added to Hampton's conference that means that they will only be able to play them once. How about Johnson Co., Happy Valley and these teams that will not even talk about playing Cloudland. That's who you should be talking about. Maybe since Unaka dropped Hampton in football they can play Cloudland twice next year.
  9. I haven't heard this rumor. I too enjoy reading the sports weekly mainly because it gives the athletes of Carter Co. some deserved recognition. I hope that the paper continues on for a long time to come.
  10. Hampton Elementary and Unaka Elementary will be playing hoops this year.
  11. Finally, you appear. What is your take on this whole situation Hablo. You always post very informative and educational material. I am waiting to hear what you have to say about this.
  12. People seem to forget about Kevin Harrison of Hampton. He has run the point since he was a freshman and is one of the best around. Mark Byrd of Cloudland does a great job as well. These guys seem to get lost in the shuffle, but I would take them on my team in a heartbeat.
  13. Well said tdog. I do not understand all of this either. It would be a shame for this to happen but it seems that the wheels are in motion. Hopefully someone will step in before it gets too late.
  14. Even though Cherokee is 4A I still don't believe that they will be able to challenge Cloudland. They had a lot of team speed last year and that is what gave Cloudland trouble. They don't have that kind of explosiveness this year. You have to be able to outscore the 'Landers and I don't believe that Cherokee is capable of that.
  15. Coach Tim Campbell of Daniel Boone. He does a great job of getting his teams to play extremely hard, especially on the defensive end of the floor. Boone will again be a very talented team and will play ten or more players. I am looking forward to seeing them play this upcoming season.
  16. Thanks for the input and all the info. A good mark for you.
  17. Mike Dorsey coached the boys baseball team last year. He is also the boys basketball coach at Hunter. Gary Lewis coached the boys football team last year, but there is a rumor going around that Mickey Taylor will coach the team this year. Your guess is as good as mine. If anyone knows for sure let us know.
  18. How about the Hampton Bulldogs of 1960? They finished the season 44-4 and beat two undefeated teams (Murfreesboro and Union City) to win the State Title. This was also before classification came along. They were coached by the legendary Buck Vanhuss.
  19. Don't believe for a minute that The Hill will be a bad team this year. Remember that an "average" team for Science Hill is a great team for most other people. Coach Poe and staff will have them ready to play come November. They may even be better in some areas than they were last year.
  20. Byrd is small but his strength helps make up for that. Both he and Harrison see the floor extremely well and they are at their best when they are creating a shot for someone else. I don't consider Chambers a guard and Miller isn't a true one man yet. Walter still has a ways to go but he is getting better. I still believe that Harrison and Byrd are the best at their position. Plus both are very good defenders. Harrison probably leads the league in charges drawn.
  21. Thank you cloudlander, I'm glad that someone finally mentioned Kevin Harrison from Hampton. I agree with you that he and Byrd from Cloudland will be the two best in Carter Co.
  22. Parrothead14 or coachc I couldn't have said it better. I really enjoyed reading your post and I hope that a whole lot of other people read it and "understand" it. Thanks...A good mark for you.
