  1. I hope those young kids don't go to a private school as that school will be accused of recruiting them! Ha! Just couldn't resist, me being on the accused end of that before. Hope you get your injured players back asap.
  2. I had a chance to see Wyatt from FRA tonight and she has a chance to be very good. Good ballhandler with either hand, strong passer with good vision. She didn't shoot well but she took good shots and you can tell she can shoot. Solid on d and good frame for rebounding. Also she plays on a good team with a good coach. Looking forward to playing them next Friday.
  3. You wouldn't know by my ID but I'm a guy and I got over complaining years ago. I was just answering jazzy's question. Looking forward to Saturday's game. It'll be good experience for us. Good luck to all.
  4. Don't get me started. It's not an attitude against girls basketball, but against JP2 as a school. When the school opened 8 years ago, a few good girls in various sports, catholic kids, decided on JPII so the whole "recruiting" thing started. Basically, H'ville, Station Camp, Beech, White House, Greenbrier, Davidson won't schedule in the 3 major sports. We've had nice games with Goodpasture and they wouldn't play this year because our football took them off the schedule. It's comical now as schools will travel 2 hours to play at York or Upperman but not go 10 minutes. Also, Beech has Ensworth coming in for games in a few weeks. The funny thing is that the middle schools around here get a lot more pressure from public high school coaches and never get contacted from JPII. Also, each of those schools have many more kids transfer between them than come to JPII. That's the nuts and bolts. This isn't the forum for this. See you on Saturday.
  5. I can read fine, even though I'm from Arkansas. By stating if you don't have blinding speed you may not compete insinuates that Ensworth does, which it doesn't. They are a solid team but they will have to prove to be above others. It's up for grabs and there will be some good games. Good luck to all.
  6. AJ, no offense, I can't find your schedule on the TSSAA site nor the teams and scores you have played this year on T. Its ok and I am over looking them I'm sure. Well I did find one game played and JPII beat Community 66-8. A few years back, JPII played a competitive schedule with smaller schools and was trying to see how the school is doing recently. We beat a solid Hunters Lane but our other 3 games have been against bad teams. We had some open dates and since no one around us will play us, we had to plug in anyone that called. Now Tuesday we play Hillwood. So going into Lavergne we'll be 5-0 only playing 1 quality opponent. After Lavergne , it's Sycamore and FRA. It will be 3 good tests in a row for us but the last games haven't done anything to help get us ready. Lavergne will be a great challenge but I believe we'll compete.
  7. If you have blinding speed you "might" compete with Ensworth......if not - adios! just shows you haven't seen blinding speed. Who, besides Carpenter is quick? They have some good players, some good youth, good coach, but blinding they're not. The amount of Clarksville layups yesterday, now that was blinding.
  8. There have been many Freshmen that have contributed over the years. I help coach at JPII and we started a freshman last year and start one this year and they both contributed. Smaller schools routinely have freshmen contribute and some are ready to contribute on the HS level. I want to know who, at the end of the year, did a great job. UT's Glory Johnson knocked us out of the state tournament when she was a freshman and had 28 pts and 14 reb in that tourney game so I've seen it first hand.
  9. I agree with part of your view of Swett. While it's hard to expect too much of a freshman on the varsity level, people always seem to overestimate the impact these players have due to their success at AAU nationals or against middle schoolers. Swett has nice potential, but not as a point guard. She was eaten up yesterday by Clarksville guards, some of which are only 1 year older. Carpenter had to bring it up the court. Her speed and ballhandling are average for high school standards. She posted up well and rebounded fine. She will get a lot better under coach Smith as her body matures and gets in better shape. Clarksville has one of the best teams around and was up 20 at the half and 24 after 3. I wouldn't say Ensworth is loaded. They'll do fine in DII but if Carpenter doesn't score 20+ it'll be hard to beat a good team. All of these freshmen will get better and that's all you want is for them to keep learning and improving. Let's not christen them as the next anything. Good luck to all.
  10. Not sure of Quinta time frame...hopefully soon, we miss her. Jasmine has signed w/Gardner-Webb University....she's a natural scorer, but really did not have to score as much in the past when you have a scoring threat like Quinta in the lineup......all the girls have stepped & contributed, with Quinta out, we are missing her almost 20 ppg. Most high school play zone anyway, so not any more than normal. We will see yall on Dec 5th....I'm expecting a good game. I believe both teams look forward to playing a good team. We won't play zone unless Paige gets into foul trouble, which will be key as neither team is very deep on the bench. Hopefully Q gets back soon, even if it's against us as I don't want any kid to be hurt. Our cupcake schedule leading to this game won't help us but we're healthy. Myers will have trouble with Baechle away from the basket and you can't put any other starter on her. On the other hand Paige is a great post defender but will need help and I'm not sure where it will come from. We may lose, but you won't get to set shoot 3's all night like you have been. Our guards will have to handle pressure to be successful. I'm glad it's at our place as playing at Lavergne is tough. Good luck to all.
  11. What's the latest timeframe on Jefferson's return? They've been shooting the ball well in the early going. Has Dale signed to play college? She's been scoring a lot. You must be seeing a lot of zone with Myers inside.
  12. If you are saying 12-AAA is strong, maybe I would agree, but competition in that district is moderate at best. I say it again, if you stop Paige, you stop JPII. You say you are realistic, but how can you be after that post on Paige on another thread. You did get one thing right, your schedule is kitty weak once again. Maybe there is some reason for that, could you post what it is. Personally, I don't believe your team is stronger this year, but weaker overall. It will be easier to stop Bachel this season. My post about Paige was that she played well against those high profile players, not that she was on the same level. She has aspects of her game that is better than when the other girls came out. My contention is that she's about the best 4 player around. She faces sagging zones and double teams each night as no one has guarded her effectively one on one. Our schedule won't do anything to get us ready for Lavergne and FRA. Also, I don't know who Knight time is as I come from the outside to help coach. Happy turkey day.
  13. Crazyleo, I'd love to know what your basis is on how JPII just can't compete with Ensworth. Outside of Carpenter, no one else scares you. They have other good role players and a good coach. JPII has gone to the state tournament 3 of the past 5 years and was 16-11 last year in a rebuilding year. I'll go ahead and say our record will be inflated this year due to a weak schedule. My contention isn't that we're not there yet, but time will show that we certainly can compete with anyone. Also, bulldog I said Hunter's Lane was solid. You saying the're weak shows you haven't seen them. They'll compete well in 12-AAA. I always enjoy your views and you know I'm a JPII guy, but I'm always realistic. Good luck to all
  14. Ensworth isn't really a part of this thread since they are II-AA, but there is no way that JPII even comes close to competing with Ensworth period. I'm not a fan of either team, but an objective outsider. Ensworth should win II-AA state easily. You're right about one thing, this is on the wrong thread. I'll respond on the correct thread
  15. Ensworth is a strong program with a good coach but we at JPII aren't ready to just hand it to them. We beat them down the stretch last year and we are a better team than last year. We beat a solid Hunters Lane on the road Tuesday up 20 midway through the 3rd quarter. Carpenter of Ensworth is a good player that's hard to guard but they don't have anyone to guard Paige Baechle. Our region is still down as BA is solid, HH and BGA graduated a lot and Ryan is not good. Outside of 3 experienced seniors we're all freshmen and sophomores so we'll stumble here and there and Ensworth will be the team to beat. There's just not the gap that you may think. Good luck to all.
  16. Paige Baechle of JPII is one of the best and most underrated out there. She's a 5-11 20/12 performer that was all state in DII last year in bkbl and soccer. Strong enough to guard 6-2 and quick enough to guard 5-7 guards. Most complete 4 player around. Will slide out and play some 3 next year. Unfortunately the team is young so she faces defenses designed to stop her but she still puts up good numbers. Also a fantastic student and a better kid. Has held her own over the years against D1 players Victoria Dunlap (KY), Glory Johnson and Faith Dupree (UT). Season's almost here. Good luck to all.
  17. Mt. Juliet - should be theirs to lose Lebanon - solid Wilson Cent - first year in a long time without a stud post and experienced guards Beech - solid at post, weak at guard. Coach Walker always does more with less Hville - Experienced seniors and a good junior. Can beat anyone in the district. If not this year, it'll be a long time Gallatin - new coach again. they'll hustle but just don't have many players Station Camp - Graduated 4 out of 6 top players. Have 1 post and 1 guard left. no other experience Portland - good coach, no players but they try. just my random thoughts. good luck to all
  18. It doesn't need to be divided as there aren't enough true all state level players to make 2 separate teams. However, congrats to JPII's Paige Baechle for making the team. She would make it in any division. A 5-11 junior that does it all on both ends of the floor as well as being a great kid. She'll be a sleeper at some college as a 3/4 player. Congrats to all.
  19. Both players have good upsides. However, right now no one game plans for North. SC has 4 seniors that have started for 4 years and when they're gone next year, there will be only 2 players to game plan for, North and Heather Hughes. Coaching staff is solid but next year they move up to 9AAA and lose all that experience.
  20. We lost by 20 to the #1 team on the road. No shame there. We had hoped to rest our starters more on Friday against Ryan but didn't get to. Anyway, it was a successful 16-11 season considering we started the season with only 3 with varsity experience. at different times 4 of 5 starters were injured and missed games and we dressed 3 freshmen that all gave good minutes here and there. And a first year head coach to boot. We only lose 2 seniors that play so we'll be good next year. Good luck to all in their respective tournaments.
  21. scores 60 tonight with 8 threes in a double overtime loss to Gallatin. He fouled out early in the second overtime or he may have had 70. Gallatin led the entire game and was up 6 with 1:30 to go. then jankins hit a 3, gallatin made 2 ft's, jenkins with a 3, gallatin make 2 ft's, etc. Gallatin's up 3 with 6.5 and fouls on purpose so station camp has to shoot FT's. SC makes the first, misses the second on purpose, kid spins and throws it up, makes it AND GETS FOULED!!! Now after being down13-15 the whole game they have a FT to win with 2.5. He misses and off to overtime. Back and forth and gallatin is down 3 and hits a 3 with less than 10 seconds to go to double ot. jenkins fouls out and it's over. Great game with standing room only.
  22. You're nuts. Coach Walker continuously does more with less every year. They have great kids but he has no one who could start at any of the top 4 schools. The Gallatin game was a result of a home team on senior night playing well and Beech missing many layups and free throws. A coach can only get their players in position and he does that regularly. If he coached lavergne he would contend for a state and maybe have one one. He has taken a couple of teams to murfreesboro that had very average talent. Not too many coaches have done that......I'm not even a Beech fan but he knows what he's doing. His kids play hard for him, and all schools can't say that.
  23. I believe ryan- st. cecilia play in as #8 seed. Winner to play Webb and JPII vs. ensworth in the 2-7 matchup. I won't swear to it but I'm pretty sure. Next year st.cecilia moves down.
  24. Good first half, bad second half. Was BGA's coming home and they had a great crowd, hit a few 3's and got momentum. BGA beat Brentwood Academy last night and is a good team. Will be fun as always.
