Indian those were two great teams Marion and Kingston that year. Kingston was the best team we played all year and Marion Co was right there. That's when every playoff game meant something. As for my comments. that was for a BA poster that always states they were the little team that could. Well if I'm not mistaken BA had athletes all over the southeast on the team we beat in 89. I guess that was a shot at him.....

If you could add the coaching and off season training to that team then maybe. I'm with APB the 09 team and this year teams are much more physical than that team. Also the depth the last two years was much better. I would also like to point out that last years defense was awesome. In 05 I don't believe that defense was as good as the last two years but that's JMO.. The 89 team that kicked Brentwood Academy's tail in a ice storm was my favorite. The Gallatin people that sat (they actually stood due to the ice) behind me told us that we would have beat them by 2 touchdowns at least. Then they go on and beat Oakland for the championship. I guess ALCOA was the little team that could that year. We should have been playing in single A but yet we CHOOSE to play up during those years. For Goodpasture to keep this one close they will have to pass it 60-70% of the time. They will also need to complete a very high number of passes to keep the clock running and shorten the game. Be some what effective running the ball and win the turnover battle. If this all happens then this could be a very good game. If it doesn't then we will see results like the previous games in the past.

Well for one it was on the Rivals site that MBA would play in this bowl match-up. Second it was in our local newspaper. Third Rankin does not make the schedule at Alcoa but the athletic director. So I believe you need to get your stories straight.

Well since you put it that way yes I guess I am full of myself. Also I usually don't agree with goddardfields post. Maybe I should have used some different language but when you talk about these two great coaches your really splitting hairs. This is also not the only thread that this has come up mhs. Matter of fact the famous MLREB always brings it up. Rankins record in 6A and 3A speak for themselves and so does Quarles. I'll leave it at that. By the way get some sleep.....

Talking about calling the kettle black. Wasn't it the Symrna and Blackman fans claiming that the championship game was the 3rd round of the playoffs? Wasn't it the same old fans talking about how great their region was? REALLY! Alcoa has won 6 straight championships. So we are a little spoiled that's for sure. We expect to win every time we get to the championship game. We are 11 for 12 in the big game. What would make us think any different this year? This is possibly are best team of all. The 89 team that beat the little school that could ( THAT'S FOR YOU MY2CENTS) was awesome as well. Besides we seen this script with Goodpasture before and its not pretty. Wow I can't believe we have got into the topic of who has a better coach between Alcoa and Maryville. This game is between PH AND GQ. It surprises me that the Maryville fans would continue to slap us up side the head with who has a better coach. ITS IRRELEVANT IN THIS GAME. I guess you can't stand the fact that we just had a better team than you guys the last two year. When Quarles has beaten us he had the better teams. ITS THAT SIMPLE! I'm sure we will have this discussion on another thread one day... Now onto the game at hand. Maryville will need to have some run and pass plays that have misdirection in them to exploit the fast defense of Smyrna. I have a feeling which pass play will work quite well and I'm sure GQ knows the same thing. Maryville's offensive line needs to give Robinette enough time to throw or run. Robinette needs to have a good game if Maryville is to win. Which he is very capable of doing. The only quarterback I have seen that is better than him this year is Epperly from CAK. Also Maryville needs to gain positive yardage when they do run the football. Defense will determine if Maryville wins or not. They have to limit Smyrna on the big plays. They need to contain the quarterback from scrambling and making big plays with his feet. Last year that was one of the differences in the title game. They can't give up 4 or 5 yards on first down. If these thing happen then Smyrna will win. If not then the Red Rebels will have their 12th State Championship. That will be the keys to the game and to the CHAMPIONSHIP! Good luck Red Rebels!!!! Bring it back to the EAST!!

NO we have never played Smyrna but do you need a game in week 0 next year. My team will be playing for it all next week also.

Are you guys really that big of idiots... Alcoa is loaded this year and has one of the elite players in the SEC.. I'm like APB you guys seem to be a little scared. We give you a chance to shut us up and you say no way.... Just remember who the two most dominant teams have been the last ten years in the state of Tennessee. Its not anybody in DII it's the two Blount County Schools. How could you or anybody else dispute that??? By the way ALCOA is the elite team in the state this year and know one could convince me other wise. Unless of course Goodpasture beats us next week. We will never know how good Alcoa would do in DII BUT we do know that nobody in DII wants to play the BLOUNT COUNTY TEAMS THE NEXT TWO YEARS.

I would like nothing better than a Maryville W next week. With Smyrna being ranked 38 in the country and playing in the 8th best region in all of the country. I don't know if its going to happen??? Wait just a second wasn't Maryville ranked #1 in 6A at the end of the year. Where is their nationally ranking?? I guess we will see who's who next week.

FBGIRL you can't feel to good about the other game as East Tennessee has a team in every classification but 5A. Congrats to Columbia on a great win tonight. I would like to see you guys get it done this year. However Hendersonville is really playing their best ball right now. Should be one heck of a game.

Indian your plain ignorant! Why would a school with 540 student play in 6A against schools with over 1600??? The fact is the way the playoff system is set up by the TSSAA this is what you get in a semi finals match-up..... COMMON!! Do you not see anything wrong with this picture??? By the way we played 2A when there was only 3 classifications. Just to let you know we had 400 students then playing against teams with up to 650-1100 students (depending on which year). Congrats Betsy on a great season. I'm sure you guys will rebound next year with a better team looking at the roster.

Common howdoitknow2 you should know most Alcoa fans have a lot of respect for their oppenent. Do some of us posters say things we shouldn't? YES! That goes for any teams though. I don't like some of the things that are fans say on here to sometimes but it usually the truth. The truth is the way the playoff system is set up the 2 best teams on this side of the brackets play in week 2 or 3. As far as mascot goes take your lose like a man and move on.
