  1. I got curious and looked it up. This is where Barnes probably falls in because I believe he has been there for over 5 years. E. A person who has served as a non-faculty assistant coach in football, basketball, baseball, girls' softball, and track may become a head coach in that sport if that person has five or more years of experience as an assistant coach and has taken the ASEP Coaches Education Course in a TSSAA-approved course and completed the TSSAA Online Coaches Training Session. This is from page 10 of the Handbook. I also found out if you are using a volunteer coach and they havent gone through the TSSAA the chool will be fined $500. Interesting because I know a lot of schools that would get nailed by this rule.
  2. I agree that the coaches dont do it for the money. It takes a lot of time to do what they do. But, the coaches do have to take responsibility for their team losing, all good coaches do. The depth of a team falls right back on the athletic program for not getting students interested in participating in athletics. One question though does Roane Co. have a 4th block for athletics. Ex. Varsity Sports
  3. I might be mistaken, but since Barnes has been there so long, he is actually considered an assistant coach through the TSSAA. I believe the rule used to be if you were a volunteer coach and you were registered with the TSSAA for 3 years then you were then considered an assistant coach, and could actually get paid. I know this might not be completely accurate, but it has been a while since it was explained to me.
  4. To see Powell lost to Clinton surprises me, but Clinton seems to be getting district wins somehow. For the volunteer coaches thing, that is a shame. If someone wants to invest their time to help out a program the should be able to.
  5. Loudon got a big win last night against AC. I heard the refs let the teams play and Loudon was able to out play AC physically. Maybe AC will wake up and realize they need to be more physical and step up in tough situations especially come tournament time. A question for AC people. What is up with Sharp? He seems like he could be a monster, but from what I hear he isn't showing up. Is there any truth to that. The district has now been shaken. Can't wait to see what happens.
  6. What I want to know is how many of the people complaining about officiating has ever tried to officiate a ball game. I had to officiate a JV game a couple of times when the refs didn't show up, and it stinks. It is hard to see everything from their angles. It is real easy to see calls from the bleachers, but on the court during the game it is difficult. On the other hand officiating needs to be consistent. It doesn't have to be good, as long as it is consistent on both sides of the court. The teams need to adjust to the officiating, and the assistant coaches should be watching each official to see what specifically they look for.
  7. CJ Black was awesome in High School, and the only video I have seen of a High School Kid in TN breaking a backboard. What about John Henderson. He was a beast underneath the basket.
  8. Our students do a great job, and no they don't have to get on here and act like they are great. Also, fans are nice, but if you actually ever play a sport you will realize that the fans aren't even in your thoughts when you are playing. Unless you are on the bench earning valuable splinters.
  9. What about that short guy that is an assistant for Fulton. He looks like the waterboy, but in fact is an assistant coach. They say he really knows his X's and O's. I believe he played high school ball back in 01 and could really shoot the lights out.
  10. That is amazing. I didn't know the town of Loudon was the ones who invented painting their body for a basketball game. Wow, Loudon fans are so cool, I bet the Cameron Crazies get all of their cool ideas from you.
  11. Hey redskin you ask a stupid question, you get a stupid answer. Props Jimmy.
  12. They said the player from Scott was making a play for the ball, and that was coming from an AC source.
  13. I believe he was undercut cleanly in the game against Scott going up for a dunk, but no one has said the extent of his injuries. AC will be fine. They are super deep for a AA team, and should be fine in the tournament.
  14. Are you trying to look cool or look like and idiot writing like this. Anyway Maryville is a quality team that will have a chance to make a run at state if they can get out of their region.
  15. Who cares? Rankings don't mean crap when it comes to the state tournament.
  16. Jimmy Dolan? Are you the same Jimmy that put up 50 points in a state tourney game back in the 90's. If you are you could really shoot the lights out. I wont give specifics of what team just to keep your privacy.
  17. To say LC is second rate is classless. LC did the smart thing by sitting sick players in a non-district game. Loudon wouldn't do that because like the spelling in the last post they are not that smart.
  18. The fans at Scott are Okay, but what makes it tough is the tiny gym that is circular. When you look at the baskets it is easy to be thrown off with your shooting. As for the refs, Im not sure which area of officials they use, but I can't remember the refs being any worse there then other places.
  19. People can't blame the losses on talent. There is always enough talent walking the school to win some games. The fact is the first step a coach must do is get players to play, and if he does that then they will have some success.
