  1. The ultimate choice for best place to hold the state tournament would not be UTC or the Pig Palace, it would most definitely be the Bridgestone Arena. Before everyone piles on with their views, I fully realize that without some sort of major corporate sponsorship/donations, this will never happen. The TSSAA needs to step up and do what;s right for the kids, not what's the least expensive. Do what many other states do, put out your state championship venues for bid, but that may just be too much forward thinking for them to handle. Please look at this article from GA and see how much they work together to do things right: http://www.gpb.org/blogs/gpb-sports-blog/2012/02/14/arena-preps-for-states-best-wrestlers Some examples of surrounding states venues for their State wrestling tournament: Illinois - Assembly Hall in Champaign, (U of I)parade and finals are under a spotlight Georgia - Gwinnett Arena similar to IL - spotlighted parade and finals Indiana - Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis Missouri - Mizzou Arena Kentucky - Alltech Arena Most if not all of these examples have an electric atmosphere, the arenas are full of energy and these kids work too hard all year to wrestle on dirt.
  2. Ghouse, Based on your parameters, that each seed places out exactly as they are with no bonus pts, I came up with the following scores for the top 4 CBHS - 226 FRHS - 215 BAYLOR - 188 MCCALLIE - 178 Although we have the same order, the top 2 are well within the always unknown variable for those bonus pts. With 5 #1 seeds, I see a better opportunity for more bonus pts with FRHS especially thru the qtrs. Also, as barrel pointed out, the head to head match-ups of any of the top 4, could steal away potentially crucial team pts from one another. It is shaping up to be a barn burner, looking forward to it!!
  3. Brackets for all divisions are now posted on TSSAA website...
  4. Irish win this one easily, with 7 falls, 1 tech, and 1 major. Final score was 54-15 and 6 of that 15 was a FF.
  5. BCB, I hope you are still coming up to cheer on your second favorite team this weekend.
  6. No question Womack is a great wrestler, but didn"t he get 3rd @ Fandetti and also get majored 9-0 by Jordan Simpson from Oxford, AL? Who beat him @ Fandetti, Watson or White? What a tough weight class with those 3 studs at the same tourney? Hope he gets that 6th title this year.

  19. While I am not from Indiana, this article makes it sound like they do it right up there. Can you imagine 10,000 fans!!!! The title of the article can be interpreted several ways. In this situation though we are going to take a look at High School wrestling in Indiana, and it is in fact classless. One division, all athletes compete with one another in their respective weight classes for the ultimate prize, standing atop the podium at the end of the season. One Class, One Champion. This past weekend the Indiana High School Athletic Association and Conseco Field house hosted the 73rd individual State finals in wrestling. If you haven’t been fortunate enough to witness the event in person it is certainly an activity that you simply must put on your bucket list. Athletes from all walks of life meet as equals, the only difference among them being the skill level that they have attained after immersing themselves into the sport from as early as elementary school, and in some situations even before that. The setting is almost magical, the two wrestlers at each weight who meet in the finals are introduced to the over 10,000 spectators in a spectacular fashion. All of the lights are doused except for a single spotlight illuminating each competitor as they are introduced. These are no simple introductions mind you. The reading of the laundry list of accomplishments that they have achieved is resumes that young and old in the audience dream about. Once the fans have met all of the duos in the finals, the wrestlers square off with one another under a singular spotlight that illuminates a simple mat in the center of the vast field house. 20. I would love to see a one class system for all individual sports, but for discussions sake, Has anyone considered an alternative? If the consensus is what it seems, and schools are to be divided up by enrollment #'s, use the following criteria The classification of a school shall be determined on the basis of its total student enrollment figure. Non-boundaried schools will have their total student enrollment multiplied by 1.65. The definition of a non-boundaried school is: Any private school, charter school, lab school, magnet school, residential school, and any public school in a multi-high school district that does not accept students from a fixed portion of the district. (these totals are just an example, they would be adjusted to make each class close to equal in #'s) 1) Schools with enrollments of 625 and below will be Class 1A. 2) Schools with enrollments of 626 to 1251 will be Class 2A. 3) Schools with enrollments of 1252 and above will be Class 3A. 4) Classifications shall be determined on an annual basis. This plan would obviously include most of the D2 schools as part of the 3A classification, but some of the smaller D2's would be under the 2A classification. This creates a 32 man bracket for each class at state.
  21. One possible solution would be to seed the State Tournament based on a point system. This is a system Illinois uses and for arguments sake, just replace regional where they have sectional. TSSAA would have to make only a few adjustments here but at least it lends credibility for each wrestler's current season. A separating/seeding criterion will be used on all sectional champs to separate them in each weight class according to a listing of specific performance criterion that relates to the overall performance for that year and the previous year’s state tournament only. Establish a point system for each of the sectional winners. The wrestler that has the highest number of points would be seeded number one; the wrestler with the second highest points would be seeded number two etc. The wrestlers that placed second and third in each sectional would be assigned to a designated spot in the opposite bracket of the winner from that sectional. For 3A, the 4th place finisher would be assigned to a designated spot on the same side of the bracket as the sectional champ, but not in the first round. Returning state champion at that weight class .......................................35 points Returning state champions at any weight class .......................................30 points Undefeated wrestler (minimum of 20 matches) ............................................20 points 37 or more wins..................15 points 32 to 36 wins ......................10 points 27 to 31 wins ........................7 points 22 to 26 wins ........................5 points Returning 2nd or 3rd place winner at that weight class ................................25 points Returning 4th, 5th or 6th place winner at that weight class ............................20 points Returning place winner at any weight class ............................................15 points Returning state qualifier at any weight class ............................................10 points If tied for a place, flip of a coin would determine the seed of the wrestlers for placement of that seed on the bracket, except for the number one (1) seed and if the returning champ at that weight class is tied for the number one (1) seed, the returning champ will be seeded number one (1).
  22. Texas23 said "Would changing venues change the TSSAA's new attitude of not providing a hospitality room in the exact way that they are at this cow palace?" You are correct, what I should have more clearly stated was that the voices and opinions of coaches and officials carry more weight with TSSAA than any number of parents/fans.
  23. TSSAA gets the entire venue completely free of charge for 2 weekends and they cannot find enough money in their budget to buy a few pizzas for the coaches and officials!?!?!? Williamson County parents did an outstanding job with last year's food. C'mon, not feeding the officials and coaches is cheap, and adds fuel to the fire to hold this event somewhere else in the future. I wonder what kind of % of concessions goes to TSSAA? TSSAA can buy a lot of pizzas for very little $$$.
  24. Straight from TSSAA instructions: Inclement Weather In the event that a participating school does not have the opportunity to practice due to the inclement weather on Thursday, we will not be granting a weight allowance to the participants. Hospitality Room There is a large meeting room that will be used for weigh-ins. At the conclusion of the weigh-ins, this room will be used as a hospitality room for coaches and officials. You will need your wristband for admission into the hospitality room. TSSAA will provide drinks and some snacks for coaches in this area. Meals will not be served. Please plan accordingly as this is a change from previous years. Concessions/Food Brought Into the Arena Concession stands will be available. Teams and spectators will also be able to bring coolers into the facility. Parents wishing to deliver food to participants will have to pay admission in order to gain access to the arena.
  25. Sure do!! Thank you very much. Have them set up their booth right next to the roasted nuts booth!! Mmmm what a delicious combination!! HAHA
