  1. I have no dog in this hunt, but I saw SC beat LA, and if York beat SC, I can't see any way LA can beat York. York would have to self-destruct (which sometimes happens). LA was pretty much dominated by SC.
  2. Why do you waste the time posting what has already been said hundreds of times before, and everyone agrees with-that Alcoa is the best of 2A? If you want to add something constructive to a forum, great, but why just repeat what has been said over and over. 'I would think the 'thesmartestpersonalive' would have something more insightful to say. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  3. CPA survived FRA tonight, 35-14, but actually was a bit closer than the score. Congrats to the Lions for hanging tough with an UNBELIEVABLE number of injuries. At one point in the game tonight, CPA's defense was missing 4 original starters and 3 of their replacements with injuries. Young guys are stepping up and hanging tough. CPA appeared to be on the way to the "mercy rule" in the 1st half, then FRA started moving the ball - primarily because of poor tackling and defending of Page, the very good QB for FRA. CPA was up 20-0 when FRA's offense started clicking. FRA actually outplayed CPA in the 3rd quarter and cut the lead to 20-14, when CPA finally figured out how to bottle up Page, then they closed strong, scoring 15 in the 4th. I have been following CPA for over 15 years, and I have never seen a team so depleted with injuries, but young guys are filling in, and getting better. We may be alright by playoff time if we can avoid any more injuries. Congrats to FRA for palying a good game. I'm sure they will get better each year with Pack coaching there now.
  4. You missed my follow-up post on Sept. 15 where I said: "I agree that York should be on the list. I mistakenly overlooked them. Would probably have them about where you do (knocking USJ off my Top 10), especially if they beat SC. Don't think Goodpasture will end up 4, but that's IMO." After tonight, and beating SC, they are a definite Top 10.
  5. Good list, but I'll say York, CPA, or USJ rather than Westmoreland.
  6. Nice post until the last line. You just couldn't make an intelligent post without ruining it with a "CPA recruits" comment? If we recruit, we aren't very good at it. We have only 42 players dressed, including 14 freshmen. All but about 3 of our starters have been at CPA since grade school. Guess you think we are on the playgrounds sizing up 6 yr. olds? Also, if we recruit, how do you explain the fact that 12 of our 14 freshmens' families all go to church at Christ Pres.? Maybe the church is the real culprit - recruiting families so that their kids will play football. Your complaint is old and has been worn out long ago. Give it a rest. Maybe you will beat CPA this year in the playoffs. But if you don't, you won't admit you were beat. You will blame recruiting, and use it as an excuse. And by the way, my Top 10 had Lewis Co. at 5, so I agree with you.
  7. Well said: "Comparable scores are not the end all, but they are a better determining factor than just saying there is no way it can happen."
  8. Yes, I can. So a better way for you to defend your statement is what?? You said "no way DCA could have beat Camden last year". Based on what? I at least gave you a reason why DCA could have beaten Camden, plus the fact that DCA made the final 4. The whole thread is based on comparable scores as are all polls. And comparable scores do mean something, especially when they are close to the same timeframe. CPA beat DCA the first game of the season and DCA had about 4 turnovers in the 1st half, so that result doesn't say as much as DCA beating Goodpasture three weeks before Goodpasture beat Camden. And don't forget, DCA last year blew out both Tyner Academy and an undefeated York (on the road) before running into Alcoa. C'mon, guys! I'm all for rooting for your team, but use some common sense, not just "no way" for no reason.
  9. No way EXCEPT DCA beat Goodpasture, who beat Camden.
  10. Sorry to open old wounds. I missed that game because I was in the hospital, but my wife went, got into interstate wreck traffic on the way, missed the 1st quarter, and the game was already as good as over. We got beat by Goodpasture the next week, who got beat by Alcoa in the finals. I do believe we were the 3rd best team in the state that year behind GP and Alcoa. Lately we can't get over the GP hump.
  11. Thanks for reading and for the correction. I looked at Kingston's record (played a 1A, 2A and 3A team) and wrongly was thinking they were 2A. My bad. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> Don't you ever get tired of telling everybody what they already know and admit - that Alcoa is #1? I admire your team pride, but come up with something more interesting to post, other than "we are the best and you are not." On another note. Cobb has looked great at UK. No big surprise, though. What was the story behind him not going to UT?
  12. I agree that York should be on the list. I mistakenly overlooked them. Would probably have them about where you do (knocking USJ off my Top 10), especially if they beat SC. Don't think Goodpasture will end up 4, but that's IMO.
  13. I am a Christian, but you assumed something about my beliefs, not my faith. Both of those assumptions have no place on CoachT. You are a big man to apologize. Apology accepted, now let's move on. And "no", I did not want to inch CPA up higher. Actually, I was afraid if I didn't have them on the list, my fellow CPA posters would give me a hard time. If you read my earlier posts this year, I have stated that CPA is rebuilding this year, and with 6 starters out with injuries (4 for the year), they are really low on numbers (only 28 Soph.-Sr.). My posting style is not trash talk or unrealistic expectations. I like to analyze the teams and games, not blow smoke. If CPA does well, I am happy, but I won't predict them to win unless I think they can. I know how well they are coached, so they are better than their 1-2 record. They should end up 7-3 or 6-4. I started this thread and posted my Top 10 after looking at the teams winning tradition and actual results this year considering who they have played, not their record. I did not even consider east vs. middle vs. west, just the teams. I am confident I will end up with 7-8 of them right gong into the playoffs.
  14. I don't disagree that Goodpasture has struggled since the Ravenwood game, but I am not ranking the Top 10 based on regular season record. I am ranking my opinion of their strength relative to other 2A teams. Record means nothing if you "play up" outside of your region. I do believe by the end of the year, they will come together again with a freshman QB getting better, and one of the better coaching staffs in the state. The FRA score was a surprise, but that was the "Pack" factor. He has seen the GP offense so much, he knows how to defend against it. Also, that was a mud bowl game which can be misleading. The CPA/Goodpasture game will be for the Region 5 title (as usual). It could go either way. I think they are equally matched. CPA will have to stop the run (not exactly their strength), and GP will have to stop CPA's passing game (not their strength). I do believe both teams will win their first playoff game unless the TSSAA shafts them again and makes them play in the 1st round like last year.
  15. Try reading my posts, SPORT! I rated CPA tied for 10th behind several ET teams, so why are you saying I would rate them "right behind Alcoa or perhaps even ahead of them if truth be known." The truth is known - I posted it. Last year I would have had CAK in my Top 5 at the end of the year, but not in the top 10 this year. And then you compound your foolishness by assuming my Christian beliefs. Why don't you just read the posts, and post your opinions instead of putting words in other's mouths, and bringing religion into the mix?
  16. 1993 was first year. Pack came in 1997, won 2 state 1A championships in 2000 and 2002, left after 2003 season and took a non-football job at Ensworth. He promised he would not coach against his former players at CPA. He didn't, but as soon as his last CPA freshmen class graduated, he became assistant coach at Ensworth, and coached against CPA last year. Mathews came to CPA in 2004, and is still coach, and a very good one.
  17. Didn't say say CPA was an "elite team", but if you really think Westmoreland, Gatt.Pitt. or Lewis Co. could beat Goodpasture or CPA, you will find out by the end of the year, you are wrong. I remember a couple of years ago Camden had one loss, was #4-5 in the state in the polls, CPA had lost 3 games to powerhouses. CPA went to Camden as "underdogs" and put over 50 on Camden in a blowout. Same way with Goodpasture over Peabody in the playoffs last year. There is no way your #5-9 teams could even stay on the field with Ravenwood or PJPII as Goodpasture did. This is all opinion, I realize, but history says your #5-9 teams always win a lot of games, but can't go far in the playoffs. Again, I say talk to me at the end of the year. I bet I am right.
  18. If you think the AP, Knox News Sentinel and Rivals are usually pretty accurate, you must not have watched them very much over the years. And don't be so sarcastic, I said this is my opinion and asked for discussion. For example, Gatt. Pitt would probably be in the polls you watch as they have in past years, but look who they have beaten, and how they have performed in the past years when they were ranked. Look what DCA did to Tyner last year, anf they were ranked lower. My poll has 3 East TN. teams in the Top 10, including #1. If you have followed the results over the last few years, you will see that, other than Alcoa, Middle TN. has been the strongest area. Look what Goodpasture, DCA, and CPA has done the last 3 years to the east and west teams, other than Alcoa. I'll make you a bet I won't lose. The above teams, not AP, Knox News Sentinel and Rivals teams, will end the year as the class of 2A. Check back at the end of the year, and then criticize my picks.
  19. We don't hate you. Remember, you were the ones who left us to go 2A (or was it 3A) when we finally started beating you in 1A. You beat us for years, then when it stopped, you ran to a higher division. After we got bumped to 2A, you came back to 1A. Sounds like you hate us and are avoiding us. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> But, I love the tradition at TC, and you have a great team this year. Good luck the rest of the year. Maybe you and South Pittsburgh in the finals?
  20. Here's how I see it based on 4 weeks: 1. Alcoa (2-1) - who else? 2. Milan (3-0) - beat Camden. Class of the west. 3. Tyner (4-0) - won at Fulton 4. Westview (2-1). only loss to 4A power Henry Co. 5. Lewis Co. (3-0). beat 1A power Mt. Pleasant 6 (tie) Boyd Buchanan (4-0). beat CAK 6. (tie) Camden (2-1). loss to Milan 8. Goodpasture (2-2). beat Ravenwood week 1, but lately struggling 9. Smith Co. (3-1). Lost to 1A power Trousdale Co. 10. (tie) USJ (3-0). beat pretty good Harding team 10. (tie) CPA (1-2). 2 losses to Ensworth and by 8 to ECS - both great teams. Gat. Pitt. is 4-0, but teams they beat have a 2-13 combined record. Loudon (2-2) beat CAK, but lost to 1A Greenback Kingston (3-0) but no good opponents. Let the discussion begin.
  21. What was Roman's passing stats last night, and YTD? he wasn't listed in the Tennessean stats last week in the paper. Pack knows how to read film as does the CPA staff. This week will be an interesting matchup of coaches. On paper, CPA should win, but I think it will be close.
  22. Region 5 2A does not have a dominant team(s) this year for the first time since the multiplier. Goodpasture looked awesome the first week against Ravenwood, but has struggled since. They are still probably the most talented team in the region DCA and CPA are having a rebuilding year. CPA beat DCA last week. FRA will get better each week with Pack as coach and a lot of young players. Ezell and East Robertson probably can't win the region, but could easily be a spoiler to one of the top 4 teams. Was really proud of CPA last night as they gave Evangelical Christian all they wanted, losing 17-13. ECS had blown out it's two previous (albeit weak) opponents 106-6. CPA has 6 starters (including 3 seniors) out with injuries, and has freshmen and sophomores playing who never dreamed they would be at the first of the year. They have only 42 players, including 14 freshmen, but great coaching, a lot of heart, and a somewhat down year in their region still give them a chance to have a good year, make the playoffs and maybe win in the playoffs. They will get a couple of the injured players back in a few weeks, which will help. CPA's passing game is really good this year. Last night, an interception on 2 and 7 at the 7 stopped their chances for an upset, but they never quit against a much bigger and probably better team. I predict the CPA / GP game at CPA week 10 will be for the region title and home field in the playoffs. Go, CPA!
  23. We feel your pain, holder. The starting safety/WR/kicker for Ensworth was a CPA student before high school. Last Friday, he caught a TD, returned a punt for a TD, kicked off, and made 6 extra points. But they are Div II, and that is the nature of it. They want to build a football powerhouse through scholorships and give good players an opportunity for a great environment and great academics. Can't say that is all bad.
  24. As I suspected, Ensworth was: - Too big - Too fast - Too many CPA lost 2 of their best defensive players in the 1st quarter, had 2 interceptions and 2 fumbles in the 1st half, and Ensworth scored at will to lead 47-14 at half. The final really didn't look as bad as it was. Ensworth could have scored 100 if they wanted. They pulled their stars by half. They are becoming a football factory there. When you look at their team and consider the size of their school, it is hard to believe some of the players you are looking at have families that live in west Nashville and can afford the $20,000 per year tuition. Of course, we all know they don't and they can't. But that's O.K.. They are in Division II for a reason. I just don't think it helps CPA a bit to play them. They are in another league, and all we get from playing them is injuries. I was proud of the no-quit attitude of the CPA guys, and was REALLY impressed with the passing of CPA QB, Roman. He has a great arm and is very accurate. He will do well against 2A schools, but we really need a running back.
