  1. Ya'll have a good season, too. I am from Lebanon in my school days, so I have a lot of friends that have FCS ties. I pull for you every year in 1A since we got bumped up. Yes, we are fortunate to have Z Mason's size, since we are really undersized overall. He really loves basketball more than football, so I credit him for playing when a lot of basketball kids wouldn't. He could dominate if he really applied himself to football, but that is not a criticism - he is a great kid.
  2. CPA' got more depth??? If that's true, FCS must not have ay players at all. CPA has about 43 total players on the varsity including about 12 freshmen. They have 3 starters out with injuries, so they have less than 30 soph.-sr.. I wouldn't say that is much depth.
  3. I am a huge CPA fan, but a realist. CPA's defense is looking to be very good this year as far as a 2A defense goes. CPA's offense has a long way to go, and if they don't move the ball or gain some field position, Ensworth will score a lot of points and CPA will score a few. CPA has injury and depth problems this year. I predict Ensworth will have 3-4 of the best athletes on the field and more depth. Coaching is even with two great staffs. I will be there pulling hard for CPA, but I see a 3TD win, at least, for Ensworth.
  4. So, you have a better way to look at it. What is your way? Just saying: "Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah! My team is better than your team?" Coaching, speed, and athletes win games and Alcoa's got more than everyone else. They've proven it on the field and not just in the fantasy land of some optimistic fan's mind /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" . Milan fans this year sound just like they did last year before they played Peabody, and just like Peabody fans sounded last year before they played Goodpasture. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  5. Milan would have to be WAYYY better this year than last to beat Aloca, and Alcoa would have to be worse. I believe Milan lost to Peabody last year, who got killed by Goodpasture, who got beat by Alcoa. Sorry, I don't know any specifics about Milan, but common sense and results say Alcoa is on the way to another title.
  6. The only disagreement you could have with my post is a difference in how we define "powerhouse". I agree CPA has been one of the top teams in 2A, 2 of the 3 years they have been in 2A. I simply (and I am their biggest fan) don't consider their 3 year record and results a definition of a powerhouse. My post wasn't intended to put them down, but to point out they do very well considering they have hit a GP roundblock for 3 years, and considering their size. Unfortunately, this year they have an extremely tough schedule (Ensworth, Father Ryan, ECS, GP, and DCA) and are very short on depth with the injuries they have already had. They have a good defense, but offense will be a challenge. They will have to really work to make the playoffs with DCA and GP looking primed to make it.
  7. First of all, I am a CPA fan, and this post is NOT a complaint on the multiplier. Secondly,I agree that after 3 years in 2A, CPA could not be called a "power" in 2A. They have made the playoffs 2 of the first 3 years (missed the first year with a very young team). They have been good, competitive, and tied for the best record in the Region last year, but lost the title due to a tiebreaker. In 2006, they were 8-3, losing to MBA and state runner-up Goodpasture twice. Here are the facts: CPA usually doesn't have a great overall record because they "play up" a lot and lose to higher level teams. Just looking at their record against 2A teams the last 3 years, they are 16-8, and 2-2 in the playoffs. Of their 8 2A losses, 5 have been to the state runnerup those 3 years-Goodpasture, so they are 16-3 against 2A teams other than Goodpasture. They have been very competitive against GP, and played them close, but haven't beaten them in 3 years. Of all the consistently good teams in 2A the last three years, CPA and DCA are the smallest in real (not multiplied)enrollment with 310 and 286 (2006 numbers) respectively. Here are a few examples: - Alcoa- 473 - Huntington - 407 - Goodpasture - 360 - Gat. Pit. - 588 - CAK- 373 - Milan- 577 - Boyd Buch. - 347 (CPA has beaten) - Smith Co. - 644 - Tyner - 536 - Camden - 605 (CPA has beaten) - Westview - 627 A small school like CPA and DCA can beat larger schools with poor to good programs. The coaching and other private school advantages (not recruiting) can offset the numbers against a marginally good program. However, larger schools with very good or great programs (Alcoa, Goodpasture, and a few others) will be very hard for CPA or DCA to beat. A great program with 50 more students will have 10-15 more football players to add skill and depth to their team. That makes a big difference. For example, this year CPA only has about 45 players including freshmen. A school like Smith Co. will have 75-80. CPA already has 3 starters out most of the season with injuries. With only about 30 Soph.-Sr. players, that is a killer. So, is CPA a powerhouse in 2A? Probably not. So far, they have been very good for their size, but can't get over the GP hump. And even if they did, they would crash into Alcoa. That's a whole different story for everyone in 2A. CPA fans are proud of their team, both on the field and off. One thing for sure. They stand for all the right things - win or lose.
  8. The rest of 2A compared to Alcoa is like the other swimmers on the blocks waiting to hit the water when Michael Phelps is swimming. Be very happy to get the silver - the gold is already wrapped up. And I say this as a CPA and Middle Tennessee fan, not an Alcoa fan. But I am a realist.
  9. CPA hosted Kenwood (4A) for a scrimmage tonight, and they really looked good considering: -Kenwood had twice the number of players and twice the size - CPA had 8 players (including 4 starters) out with injuries. CPA's starting defense pretty much shut Kenwood's offense down, holding them to one score on a blocked FG. CPA couldn't run the ball (starting TB out with broken foot), but completed some really nice passes. They didn't get into the end zone, though. The starters played about 2 quarters and Kenwood won 1-0 (blocked FG ran back for TD). It was good to see Z Mason in the offense for CPA after finally finishing his summer basketball. He caught a couple of nice passes from the slot, and is a load to tackle. He is a defensive end, but I expect to see him on offense more this year.
  10. Hey, Region 5-2A fans. Below is a unofficial report on CPA. I would be interested in a similar post for the other teams by their fans. Offensive line: Small and thin in numbers. Best returning starter recovering from knee surgery and will miss first 2-3 games at best. QB: 3 pretty good athletes, but Lowery is gone after starting last 3 years. Little experience back, and CPA's offensive scheme is tough for a new QB to handle. RB: very thin with only 1 returner (soph.) and a very small freshman who will be a good player, but not too much help this year. Receivers: 2 of 3 starters back and probably the strongest part of the offense. Gotta get them the ball though. Defensive line: Pretty good with 3 returning starters, including Z Mason who could (if he decides to) dominate one side of the line. LB: Very strong with the top tackler (Robinson) from last year returning, as well as another starter. DB: Another strong part of team, led by Fisher and Hogue, two smart, hardnosed starters from last year. Kicking: a real unproven part of team with no returners and no one really stepping up so far. Overal assessment. With 5 really tough games (Ensworth, Father Ryan, DCA, ECS, and Goodpasture), and a young team without much size or depth, CPA will have a tough time having a good record. They do have great coaching which should win a game or two. IMO, the defense is their strength and will have to create some points, short fields, and low scoring games to put CPA in the playoffs. Go, Lions!
  11. Have you DC fans noticed that you are the only ones still starting threads and posting on this subject anymore? If it is a non-issue, why can't you let it go? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  12. I don't have anything against you. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> I just find it interesting that people post over and over again that other people should quit discussing something when they themselves continue to propogate a thread. When you tell people to "move on", you are implying they should stop discussing and posting, while you continue to post. Just something to think about. No hard feelings. I admire your passion for a good DC team who is still "in the hunt".
  13. You have 1300+ posts in 4 months and you are saying that CoachT members should stop giving their opinion?? And you are telling people to move on while you continue to post on the same thread? A bit hypocritical, wouldn't you say?
  14. Missed FT's, missed shots, and missed judgement calls are part of the game and every team and game has them. Gross bad clock operation in the last 15 seconds of a close game should not be part of the game and should never have happened.
  15. Please don't respond to this post talking about the foul disparity. My concern over the last 15 seconds was not the adjustment the refs made to set the clock to 7 seconds, but the fact they made no adjustment when the clock was never started at 13.something seconds prior to the first of the final 2 three-pointers. DC is a great team, they won the game - it is over! However, I am curious to see the final 15 seconds, because I think it would confirm that the clock was never started for several seconds when DC picked up the ball near midcourt at about 14 seconds, prior to the first 3-pointer. Can someone look at the film and verify that? Again, congrats to DC, and nothing will change outcome. I am just curious.
  16. I've said my peace about the clock problems. It was a shame clock operator problems could not have been handled correctly. However, I will say I really enjoyed the game. DC is a great team with incredible speed and great athletes (and lots of them). I am so proud of CPA hanging tough when they could have easily gotten rattled early and lost by 20. I am also really proud of Z who was under a microscope and played his heart out - the full 32 minutes. He ran the whole game and played well throughout. Coach Maddux made some great adjustments at 1/2 and CPA won the 2nd half against a lot of intense pressure. The two shots DC made in the last 20 seconds (even though ony 14 seconds were on the clock) were incredible and a testament to those kids and their team. DC will be hard to beat in the tourney, and CPA will be back next year.
  17. Give me a break!! Are you saying that if you had lost by 1 due to 2 breakdowns by the clock operator in the last 14 seconds, you would not be posting on this thread after you have made about 100 posts in the last 3 days?
  18. Thanks, that is exactly what happened. Missed judgement calls are part of the game with high school refs and you can't change a judgement call. But when the clock doesn't start twice, the refs have the right to call timeout and make the correction. They didn't correct it the first time, then corrected it wrongly the 2nd time (when the game should have already been over).
  19. WHy is no one mentioning that when DC inbounded the ball with about 15 seconds to play, they rolled to to almost 1/2 court before Miller defended and they had to pick up the ball. After they touched the ball, almost 4 seconds ran before the clock started. DC made a 3 with about 1.5 seconds ran, even though about 4-5 seconds should have run. There should have been some time put back on the clock for DC when the clock was at 3 or so seconds, but the game should have already been over at that point. Two clock mistakes in the last 15 seconds (one never corrected and one corrected wrongly) is inexcusable in a state tourney game. As a CPA fan, I agree there were some questionable foul calls on DC and some missed travel calls on both teams, but more on CPA. DC did press more and foul more, but CPA got a few breaks on ref judgement calls. CPA also missed some crucial FT's, but that is also part of the game, and they overcame it. Here is the problem: fouls, traveling calls, etc. are judgement calls that can't be reversed. However, when the clock doesn't start, time can be called by the refs and a correction can be made. When they didn't start the clock and gave DC about 4 seconds with 15 seconds to go, they didn't deduct the time, but later they did make a correction in DC's favor, and also added too much. The winning shot was made about 5 seconds after the game was over.
  20. Didn't say there were right - just said they, like you and me, our kids, and Teece31, when we were teenagers (or even now), don't always respond properly in the heat of the moment. Those same kids have showed a lot of good sportmanship at times. They are not bad kids- they made a bad choice that night. If you will remember, there was one member of one of the All District or All Tournament teams that was sitting in the stands and wouldn't even get up to join the group for the group picture. That was also very disrespectful.
  21. The CPA players are teenagers that were at a tremendous emotional high after a very hard fought game with their District winning coach standing on the sideline. They were shocked when the announcement was made about Coach Pierce as were others. They didn't scream or yell, walk off the floor, or boo Coach Pierce. I was there - I saw their reaction. It was a brief reaction of shock in the moment that may not have been perfect, but cut them some slack. It was a very emotional time, and they are teenagers. All of us "knee jerk" at times and may react in a way we wouldn't ordinarily if we had more time to reflect on it.
  22. I was already making comments on the teams (like you were) in a good thread that was already started about the teams before this stupid thread started, and everyone (including you) kept posting over and over again that this thread was stupid. My point was if you are going to complain about a thread being valid (which you did several times), don't propogate the thread by continuing to post to it. It just encourages more threads that you have already admitted shouldn't have ever been started. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  23. And your post certainly exhibits what a great sport and classy person you are, using profanity online and threatening violence. Quit embarrassing yourself and think before you post junk like this. My guess is his game made you look like a chump, so you are jealous.
  24. It was probably started because whoever started it knows there are enough people like you who can't just ignore a stupid topic and will make 15-20 posts on the topic asking over and over again 'why was this started?". /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
