  1. So that's what CPA's AD and DL's coach were talking about on the sidelines at the Region tourney Wed. night, huh? /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Thanks to DL for this generous gesture, and best of all, it is only 10 minutes from my house. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Anybody know anything about Creekwood other than they lost to Harpeth twice and CPA beat Harpeth twice?
  2. As I understand, CPA gets to pick a location, but I don't know if it has to be another 2A gym, another Region 5 gym, or can be anywhere. Of course, getting another school to cooperate is not as easy as it sounds. The reason I mentioned MLK is that I know Coach Shelton is very supportive of CPA athletic department.
  3. Notice the first word of post - "if"
  4. If CPA wins the Region tourney, they will have to host the Sectional off campus - probably at MLK. That is just not right for a team to accomplish much and not be rewarded (and their fans) with a home sectional game. When the TSSAA multiplied the student body, they should have applied the same criteria to the gym size. As has already been said, another example of the TSSAA (and its all-public school board) taking every opportunity to put it to the private schools that they resent. You may not like the privates, but can anyone actual think that they should not be allowed to host a game they earned the right to host?
  5. Found out something interesting today. When CPA built their gym, they built it with 1,000 seats so they would be eligible to host a 1A region tourney, which they did a few years ago. When they were multiplied to 2A, it eliminated their gym from hosting a 2A regional because they are short about 150 seats.
  6. I understand that that may be the reason, but I still don't agree. I think the travel argument is overstated in this day and age. People commute to work 40 miles each way and think nothing of it. If they rotated gyms and District hosts each year, some years the travel would be greater, but there is carpooling and schools could get busses for the fans who don't want to drive and charge them $10 for the ride. After all, 'fan" is short for "fanatic". Fanatics will figure out a way to make the drive. I hated driving to Collinwood 2 out of 3 years for the football playoffs, but I wouldn't have missed the games for anything.
  7. I'm a CPA fan and I didn't have a problem with Lipscomb's or CPA's strategy, for the most part. Lipscomb did not hold the ball when CPA was in the man-to-man. They ran a very effective spread offense, taking Z away from the basket, and letting their best ball handlers try to beat CPA's defenders (which they did quite well). When Lipscomb had the lead, CPA played man-to-man. When CPA got the lead, they went to a zone (good move, IMO), and Lipscomb chose to hold the ball and keep the score low rather than attack the zone (good move, IMO). A good coach analyzes his team's strengths and weaknesses, then his opponents's strengths and weaknesses, then devises a plan that he thinks gives him the best chance of winning. This goes on before and during the game (the plan may change as the game progresses). The coach's obligation is not to do what the fans think he should, but to win the game. Those who win are considered good coaches and the fans are happy regardless of the game plan. The only question I have asked myself is that when Lipscomb was in the spread offense, why didn't CPA play a 4 man man-to-man, and let Z park near the basket (play zone) to take away the drives? I wonder if Lipscomb in that scenario would have let Z's man just stand out front and hold the ball. Thoughts?
  8. Can anyone provide the class next to the names of the nominees? I know AA Mason and Jenkins are juniors.
  9. Thanks for the lecture about how someone should not lecture. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  10. Please be reminded. Some CPA (or Lipscomb) fans who post on CoachT do not represent the majority of CPA fans or reflect the majority feelings of the schools. So when you get upset with a post, take it out on the poster, not the school or its fans. Anyone who knows basketball recognizes the following: -- Lipscomb had a great game plan that was within the rules, smart, and almost worked. -- CPA coaches responded to that plan in the way they felt they needed to to win, and it worked -they won. -- A slow, low scoring game is not necessarily a boring game. If you thought the game was boring, you couldn't have been there. Ever seen a 1-0 pitching duel in baseball between two great pitchers? -- Coach Maddux and his staff have done a great job at CPA, but Coach Pierce did as well, and should be congratulated as Coach of the Year -- Z is a great player, but one player does not win a District and go undefeated (ask Station Camp with Jenkins). It takes great coaching and team play with everyone filling a role. When Petersen got hurt in the Lipscomb game, Lowery played the rest of the way and played his best game of the season, making a big shot to keep CPA in the game. -- CPA and Lipscomb are fine schools with great fans, but there are always a minority that can reflect negatively on the majority. Don't judge the majority by the minority. I will be pulling for all the teams in 9AA to go far in the tourney, whether or not CPA is one of them.
  11. It was a very heated atmosphere and is a heated rivalry, so some things are going to happen that are funny, appropriate, bordering on classless, and inappropriate. Let's face it, both schools are filled with people who recognize appropriate actions, and a few that do not. Despite all that was said or done, there was no violence, which in this day and age is not a given, so let's be thankful for that. Really, IMO, the thing that started it all was the Lipscomb point guard mocking the CPA cheering section while he was holding the ball near 1/2 court in the stall. Kind of unusual for a player on the floor to get involved in the crowd, but I thought he was kind of funny, and didn't think bad of it. He certainly played a great game running the spread offense, and gave Lipscomb a chance to win. Bottom line, they had 4-5 chances to make big shots at the end of periods and didn't do it. CPA scored when they had to and Lipscomb didn't, so CPA won.
  12. You're right. My bad. I think FRA can beat Spring Hill on a neutral court, but they have to do it at Spring Hill's place. Not easy. Marshall County at Lipscomb will be a very interesting matchup. I'll have to take Lipscomb at home. First round winners, IMO: CPA, Lipscomb, Spring Hill, Giles County.
  13. But the fact is: Maddox did go undefeated. Anything else is just conjecture, and my point is you don't penalize a coach's recognition based on what people think could have been done, but what is done. Coach Pierce did a great job, no doubt. But how many times will a district coach go undefeated? That's enough about this topic. Don't want to diminish Pierce's award. It's done and he is to be congratulated.
  14. I agree that he is cool with it, but him not winning is like Z not getting MVP because he has a lot of talent to work with. You reward accomplishment, not penalize someone for using the tools they have in the best manner - and winning. I do not agree that the other coaches in 9AA would have gone undefeated with CPA's players.
  15. Give me a break. What more can you "do with the players given" than develop them since 7th grade, go undefeated in the District, including the tourney (who has ever done that in recent years?), and win every game against Tenn. opponents for the year? Coaching is the most important part of a high school team - more so than talent. You saw two great coaching jobs tonight (CPA and Lipscomb). Pierce is a good coach, but when you have a chance to recognize a coach for taking his team to an undefeated district record, you do it.
  16. The Marshall County loss in the District tourney makes for a great first round match against Lipscomb that wasn't expected. Good luck to Lipscomb. FRA at Giles County will be interesting as well. Still say Spring Hill should not get home court adavantage 2 years in a row. How did that happen? Maybe CPA can get the Region tourney the next two years. How would everyone feel about that? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  17. Hats off to Lipscomb for a great game plan, excellent play, and for CPA hanging tough when they had to. Lipscomb did exactly what they should have done to have a chance to win (spread the court against the man-to-man), and CPA (after the 1st half) did what they should have done to win (stay back in the zone and let Lipscomb run the clock). In the first half, Lipscomb killed the CPA defenders one-on-one in the spread and only shot about 3 shots that weren't driving layups. It worked. They pulled Z away from the basket defensively and won off the dribble. They shot 2 threes in the first half and made one. At the end of the first when CPA got the lead, and in the 2nd half, CPA refused to play man and let Lipscomb spread the court. So they played zone and Lipscomb held the ball. I don't fault either team for doing what they needed to do to have the best chance to win. Lipscomb missed an easy put-back layup in regulation that would have won the game. In the 1st OT, Lipscomb went up 6 and appeared to have it won, but CPA fought back. Z made a good block in the 2nd OT (IT WAS NOT A GOALTEND) on the last shot (a great play run by Lipscomb to get the open look). In the 3rd OT, CPA made their freethrows, got a couple of steals, and played tough in the zone. As a CPA fan, I didn't like the CPA's student section's chant at the end of the game, but Lipscomb probably would have dome something similar if they had won. The atmosphere was VERY competitive, and not just on the floor. Good luck to both teams in the Region. They very likely may meet again in the finals.
  18. People have posted their opinion abou why CPA is undefeated and how to beat them, such as: -- Z gets all easy baskets and dunks -- Maybe CPA will get cold from outside and they can't win without outside shot. -- Stop Miller and/or Mason and you can win -- Play them zone and hope they miss. -- Don't let them score in bunches -- Slow the game down and don't let them run Etc., etc. Well, here is the reality from someone who has seen them play about 15 games and seen them play every District opponent. -- CPA is great because they are quick and play great defense. They double team and overplay the ball, and can afford to gamble that way because Z or Petersen will not let a breakdown result in an easy basket in the paint. So if you beat the double team or overplay, someone else picks up the ball or Z and Petersen contests the shot in the paint. -- If you don't make really good open looks in the halfcourt, you cannot beat them. You won't get many fast breaks or 1/2 court offense layups, so you better get your shooters open and they better be hot. -- CPA is not just Z and Miller. All starting 5 can run, create opportunities, pass, and shoot. Granted, if Z is shooting well, you can forget it, but if he is not, and if Miller is a bit off, Anderson and Reeves are capable of scoring in double figures and have done so a lot. Petersen doesn't shoot a lot, but he plays great D, get s a lot of rebounds, and runs the floor well. Anderson would probably be the leading scorer on most of the other teams inthe District if he played for them. -- Pressure D doesn't hurt CPA much with Miller, Anderson, and Reeves all good ball handlers. Plus, if they get loose, Z is waiting for the downcourt pass. You may get a turnover or two, but you will give up a lot more easy baskets. You have to play them tough in the 1/2 court, try to deny the pass to Z in the paint, and hope CPA is cold outside. Lipscomb must shoot very well to win (not just one player, because the best shooter will be guarded by Anderson-the best defender in the District), and hope CPA has an off night. I say CPA 72-57
  19. If that's true, it's a stupid ruling, unless they put it at a neutral site. If there is going to be a home court advantage, it needs to be rotated. What if Spring Hill was the best team in the region - can you imagine the outcry there would be with them hosting the region 2 years in a row?
  20. My opinion of District 10 is simply that-an opinon. Didn't see Marshall and Giles County play, but based on their season results, Marshall County has been more impressive than Giles, yet they have had some close wins over some very average teams and lost to a very good 1A team, Culleoka, twice. Granted, Culleoka is very good, but Hume Fogg played Culleoka tough at Culleoka, so I can't imagine Culleoka beating Lipscomb or CPA. I expect Marshall and Giles County to be a notch below the top of District 9, but anything can happen in the Region tourney. Doesn't seem fair that District 10 gets to host the region 2 years in a row. What's up with that?
  21. Even though CPA dominated regular season play, their margin of victory against HF and East Lit. showed there is a lot of talent and good teams in 9AA. The tourney won't be a "cakewalk" for CPA. Some things to consider: - MLK is a good team and playing at home. They will be dangerous. - Anyone know who is #2 seed? - #1 and #2 seeds will win first game, but whoever draws MLK in the 2nd round at MLK, that could be an upset. - #3 and #4 seeds may not win their first game as they have to play either MLK or HF. Even playing at home, they could get upset. So, they don't make region tourney. - IMO, District 9 is stronger at the top than District 10, so I think District 9 has a good shot at a state tourney team this year. As a side note, congrats to my CPA Lions for going undefeated in Tennessee. They lost to 2 AAAAA teams in Georgia (one of those is having a very good year), and Mason County, KY - the #4 team in Kentucky (21-3). But, that means nothing at tourney time. The difference in HS and college tourneys though is that you only have to win 1 district game, and 2 region games to get to the substate.

Would like to see Lipscomb as #2 seed. I think we (CPA) match up better with FRA than Lipscomb, so I don't want to have to meet Lipscomb until the finals. Of course, that is assuming there are no upsets. With the athleticism of MLK, PC, and HF, nothing is a guarantee as they are capable of putting together a good game and beating anyone in the district, including CPA. If Lipscomb loses tonight and FRA wins, who wins the tiebreaker for #2 seed?

First part of your post is funny. Now concerning the second part: 1. It is a forum. You have a right to make your posts and so does eveyone else. Your complaint is a lack of rounded discussion on the league, yet you make a post that doesn't involve that at all, so you are part of the problem you describe. 2. All the teams have a right to post anything as much as they want about their team, but few are doing it. If you will look back a couple of days, CPA fans wrote several posts about Williamson at HF. 3. It is difficult to have a great "rounded discussion" about a league when it is experiencing dominance by one team. That dominance may end at any time and may be temporary, but the other teams' fans just don't seem motivated to make posts. Don't criticize CPA fans for keeping the thread alive. Th answer is not to silence or criticize the content of CPA posters, but for the other schools' fans to get involved and offer another viewpoint.
  24. Z Mason of CPA had a followup dunk on a fast break miss that he threw down on the rebound behind his head. Unfortunately, a foul was called on the missed layup and his dunk didn't count. He averages about 3 dunks a game, but this one was the best I've seen.

Probably will be in school. Wants to graduate with his friends he has been with since elementary school. I'm sure Maddox would welcome him back, but the competition for paying time next year will be tough. 3 starters back and lots of young talent on the bench that will be even better next year. There are also a couple of good players who didn't play this year, other than Chapman, that may be back next year. Time will tell. Z is a special player that only comes along once in many years, but the program looks good in the future with the 8th grade (lots of size), Fresh, and Soph. classes.
