I believe that the CPA team that almost made the championship game will actually be better this next year. Lose 2 All-state players and another very good senior, but return almost all linemen, very good QB, Wharton may be best athlete and return man in state, and a great kicker. Maplewood will be good but will miss Mathers, PC always reloads, and Lipscomb has some good young players and great coaches. Still believe CPA could be in running for championship.

Why didn't Bradshaw play today against Pearl Cohn?

IDK, but heard Blackwell was sickness, not injury, so would assume he would come back soon. Have never really heard the updated status of Richard's rehab from injury. I feel for the kid as he had so much promise going into this year, and he has not been able to play. Must be very frustrating to just sit and watch. Hopefully, he will be back at some point and able to get back on his game. One good thing is that if you lose a bit of conditioning while you are out, you don't have to play a lot of stretch of minutes when you come back due to CPA's depth. They rotate so much everyone can stay fresh.

I agree. I noticed that Wharton didn't start against Whites Creek and wondered if he had been sat because he had so many turnovers in the EL game by trying dribbling and trying to do too much on his own. Don't know, but wondered.

Haven't been to that many CPA games this year - about 4 and watched 2 on the web, including DL. Can't see DL or Maplewood beating CPA at home, so CPA should go undefeated in District. Trying to be impartial and level headed about CPA, but I really feel they are getting better each week. Who would have thought they would not have been hurt much with the loss of Richard to injury, after the year he had last year? They have 11-12 players that would start for most good teams in the state. Their zone press is really effective and they have the depth to go at it 100% the whole game. Unlike a man press, they rarely get in bad foul trouble despite the pressure they put on. Most fouls they commit are in the lane, not on the press. Alsmiller (over 80 3's already)and Bradshaw extend the defenders so much it is hard to defend them. EL could give them trouble in District and MC in Region, but I believe Region is their's to lose.

Jalen Lindsey - CPA Craig Bradshaw - CPA

CPA pretty much punched their ticket as #1 seed in the District tourney with a win at EL tonight. They led the whole game and won by 11, but I was very impressed with EL's quickness and they forced CPA into a lot of mistakes. Lindsey and Alsmiller got in foul trouble early, and one of CPA's better players was sick and didn't dress. It will be interesting to see who ends up #2,3,4 with EL and DL at 7-3 and Maplewood at 7-4. EL & DL still have a game against each other, and DL and Maplewood have to play at CPA, so I predict EL will finish 2nd, and DL and MP will need a tiebreak to determine #3 seed.

EL's loss to Maplewood puts CPA in an almost lock position for regular season District champ and #1 seed in tourney. Can't see them losing 2 games bfore the end of year. Toughest games left are EL away and Maplewood at home. #1 seed in tourney should put them in opposite bracket from EL and Maplewood which is a good thing.

Gee, chill out! I was glad the tourney was at CPA last year, and I am glad it is not at Maplewood and East Lit. this year. Get a clue - I am a CPA fan! What would you expect - that I would want the tourney at Maplewood and EL this year? That would be stupid for me to want. The fact is that it rotates as it should. I'm just glad the rotation does not favor our two biggest hurdles this year. If it had worked out that way, so be it. I do think it is unfair that CPA is not allowed to host the Region tourney due to gym size. Every team should be included in that rotation if they are in the region.

Better than Maplewood or East Lit.. The top teams will not have a home court advantage.

Where are the District 10 and Region 5 tourneys this year?

I know this is going to sound crazy, but CPA has 4 counting Lindsey who could be on this list and play at the next level: - Alsmiller (may end up being better prospect than Lindsey)- probably going to grow to 6'7" or 6'8", will fill out, and is one of the best shooters in the state. - Wharton - still under 6', but based on family should have growth spurt, is incredibly fast, and a great athlete. The question is will he keep playing football and basketball, or just focus on one sport. - Thomas Richard - been injuried a lot this year, but if he gets healthy should be a great player. Very athletic, should grow to 6'3" or better, and got a strong frame. Again, needs to get healthy.

CPA wins at Lipscomb, 58-17. 28-10 at half, CPA outscores DL 24-0 (I think) in 3rd quarter. All bench players in 4th for CPA. Very surprising margin and ease of victory for CPA.

CPA loses by three after making a nice comeback. had game tied with 1 1/2 minutes, then called a TO they didn't have resulting in a tech. and loss of possession.

I think also sophomores; Richard, Bonds, and Adams. I hear there are some good Fresh.(including Parker Howell) and 8th graders in the wings. Bright future.

How did you get this info so fast? I have been trying to get news tonight, but it was nowhere online that I could find. If they win tomorrow, they should be nationally ranked for the first time in school history.

CPA outlasted the nationally ranked Orange Lutheran Lancers by a score of 70-64. CPA jumped out to an early nine point lead, 12-3 in the first quarter, but the Lancers answered with a run of their own to end the quarter leading 20-16. The teams were evenly matched until Orange Lutheran saw their biggest deficit as the Lions pulled ahead 54-44. The Lancers again closed the gap and with 47 seconds left in the game, Orange Lutheran's Gabe York (Arizona signee)was fouled on a made three-pointer and had an opportunity to tie the game with a made free throw. York failed to complete the four point play and the Lancers didn't see the lead again. Jalen Lindsey led CPA with 32 points and 9 rebounds. Gabe York led Orange Lutheran with 28 points and 4 steals. CPA plays in the tourney semifinals Tuesday at 730pm.

CPA is playing in the King of Bluegrass Tourney in Kentucky featuring the top teams in Kentucky and several other top teams in the country. They beat Pleasure Ridge Park HS - #18 in Kentucky polls last night, and play Orange Lutheran from Orange, Calif. Monday. Orange Lutheran is in the Top 50 in the national ESPN poll. Jake Alsmiller had 5 3's in the win against PRP.

Good work, howdoitknow2. Thanks for the research. I agree with the CPA players, and will take your word for the rest. Lots of good returning players statewide. Might add J.R. Osborne, kicker for CPA, who was very good as a Freshman this year, and should develop as a D1 prospect the next 3 years.

They are definitely the favorites, that's for sure. You don't stop them with cover guys, you stop them with a sound Cover 2 defense with smart safeties. You also have to figure out some way to make High throw before he wants to. Tough to do with their line - need lots of scheming and stunts.

Thanks. Weird year for me following both SC and CPA, but enjoyed it. Was dreading the possible matchup of SC/CPA from a personal standpoint, but wanted them both to do well.

I agree that they aren't many who could do it, but it can be done. Every year the experts say a team in the NCAA (Oregon, etc.)has an unstoppable offense, then a good SEC defense and special teams shut them down. I realize HS is different, but there were a LOT of passes CAK completed against Milan that were just poorly defended. I will admit CAK's OL keeping pressure off of High, and his pocket awareness make their pass game very tough to defend. To beat them next year, a combination of a good running offense that shortens the game, avoiding turnover's and big penalties, a couple of INT's, and making a couple of special teams play,and who knows?

I appreciate your reasonable discussion, and you make good points; however, keep in mind, the smaller the school, the larger % of students have to play football or you won't field a team. For example, CPA had 12 seniors this year on the FB team out of about 45 male seniors. if CPA doesn't have a high %, they don't have enough players to play. Maplewood, on the other hand, has their pick of the best 50-60 players from over 500 male students, so naturally they have a smaller %. If they had 30%, they would have 150 players and couldn't dress them out. Smith Co. has about 340 males students and at least 80 players (about 25%) and they have at least 10 coaches. That doesn't bother me. I think it is good for the kids. As far as the parent coaches, I do not know the financial arrangement but I'm sure they are all different, and i also know the school has to answer to the church board financially, who would stop any unjustified expenditures. If a parent is a coach, is working hard, and doing a good job, they deserve to be paid like anyone else. i know for a fact some of them coach for free. For a few years, Mark Miller of Sawyer brown coached the middle school team his son was on for free. Again, I cannot testify to perfection in intent or action, but i can state one thing for sure: the potential for problems is not exclusive to the privates.

Can't argue with that. I said CPA is "a" favorite,IMO, not "the" favorite. The west top teams are hard to beat.
