  1. I know it sounds like "sour grapes" but in all honesty - Milan is a great place for HS football with an incredible tradition. In an environment like that, everything should be first rate, regardless of what other teams do at their place. It is bushleague and out of character to have an announcer leading cheers - which he was. He can be a "homey" and still work within the protocol of what a good announcer should do. Great football tradition and respect require certain protocol. I'm sure he is a great guy and he does a great job when he is not leading cheers. Someone needs to talk with him.
  2. Great atmosphere, great stadium and great Milan hosts. Milan was the best offense we have seen this year, IMO, including Maplewood because Milan was more versatile. Very impressed with QB (smart and good arm) and Coleman is a beast running the ball. CPA's defense was incredible, especially considering they had basically no offense in the 2nd half with QB hurt, and had their backs to the wall the whole half without surrendering any points. Not being able to throw won't get it done against a good defense like Milan. I do believe CPA would have won with Mitchell healthy but, no excuses, Milan is a great team and they won and deserved it. The only negative of the trip for me was a few classless adult Milan fans "bulldog barking" at the CPA players as they went to the dressing room after a tough loss. How about some class and respect for the young men who left it all on the field? Should be a great championship game.
  3. It's all good and all part of CoachT. The problem with trashtalking in writing is that many times it comes back to bite you, and you lose credibility. I'm all for analyzing the game and trying to be objective. Even then, no one knows what will happen before it does. If I did, I would be in Vegas Friday, not Milan. But here is my guess. These two teams are very good and I predicted at the first of the year Milan would be in Final 4. CPA has exceeded my preseason hopes, but I didn't know how the new coaches would do, didn't know how good Wharton would be, and didn't know we would avoid major injuries. CPA's defense is VERY stout, and I would be shocked Milan would score more than 21, unless it is on turnovers, short fields, or long kick returns. CPA's offense is good, and very good if you let them pass well. If you have speed in the defensive backfield, you can hold them below 3 offensive TD's, but their kick return game is dangerous with Wharton. I believe it will be a 24-21 type of score. Gotta go with CPA.
  4. I agree. How we ever beat a PC team twice that beat 4A semifinalist Maplewood is a fluke. CPA's whole season at 12-1 has been a fluke, especially considering we never practice. The interesting thing is I have been doing this CoachT thing long enough to remember these same Milan posts prior to the Goodpasture game they lost.
  5. We decided not to practice or play over the last three weeks, so I have no idea how we got this far
  6. I agree. i would love to see a CPA/CAK game. It's amazing we have never played, but to be honest, the playoff seeding system does not reward scheduling games with good teams. We already (like you) have a tough district. Playing Maplewood, PC, EL, and Lipscomb makes going 5-5 hard enough. I think the matchup will have to come in the championship. What are the odds you guys will get bumped up to 4A next classification? My son has applied for a teaching job at Christian schools in TN. , including CAK. Wouldn't that be something if he ended up there? Enjoy your posts as well.
  7. CPA loses 3-4 real good players and senior leaders, but they will, IMO, be better next year. Return QB, all but one starting lineman, 2 RB's, best offensive playmaker, leading tackler, and future All-State kicker. They also had a great 8th grade class. Another factor is this was "rookie" year for coaching staff with new offense and defense, and 2nd year should be more effective and grounded in what the staff wants to get done.
  8. Thanks, BIRD80, it's been fun good-nature debating with you this year. I respect your passion for your team and they were good, just made too many mistakes. Hope the young man who broke his leg will have a full recovery. See ya next year. I'm sure PC will be back.
  9. My bad, that's what happens when people start posting about other teams in a thread that has nothing to do with those teams. Didn't expect someone to be talking about HC's defensive stats on a Milan/CPA thread.
  10. 1st team only gave up 9 points, huh? Interesting. Maybe should have played your first team defense against Huntington, then you wouldn't have given up 24. You put in the subs against Westview only winning 16-7, and against Covington only winning 28-26?
  11. Poythress looks out of place on the court - a man among boys. He is not overrated. Strong, quick, great hops, smooth stroke and a competitor. When CPA went up 10 in 2nd half, I thought they would win, but even though Poythress was great, it was CNE's defense forcing turnovers that won the game. CPA's bench was so weak with Bradshaw, Richard, and the football players not playing, they fell victim to the same game they usually win with-pressure. Poythress is awesome, CNE is good, and CPA will be fine as the year develops and they get to full strength.
  12. Seems to me Goodpasture has been pretty successful beating Milan and teams from the west over the last few years and CPA has competed very well against Goodpasture those same years, even beating them a few times. I have great respect for Milan, and they may be the best team CPA will play this year, but I believe both Goodpasture and Maplewood would compare to Milan. I guarantee Milan has not played anyone with the coaching, play calling, and fundamentals CPA has. BTW, CPA beat a very good Pearl Cohn team last night that outweighed them on the line by probably 40# average, and CPA missed 3 FG's that had the distance and were slightly wide or it would have been 30-7. PC had one first down in the 2nd half. Two really good teams with great tradition and crowd support. Will be a classic and I look forward to visiting Milan.
  13. You're not right. CPA is 2 plays to 1 running the ball. They are very balanced with good receivers, 4 good running backs, a good QB who throws and runs, and a real playmaker who plays RB and Wildcat QB. Lots to prepare for. But with that said - they win with defense and special teams.
  14. I agree with the score prediction, but not necessarily the winner. This will be a great HS game, and, as a CPA fan, i consider it a privilege to play a program like Milan that has had such success. I don't think we have ever played Milan (played Union City, USJ, Camden in the west). It has taken CPA a few years to adjust to 3A schedule with just 280 students, but we're there now. Actually, we have gone further this year than I thought we would. I knew next year we would be a state contender. if you have a good kick returner, then the fans will see two great ones. See ya Friday!
  15. It's got to be really embarassing to make a crack about someone not being able to read when you are the one who misread the posts. See above. You first posted that if you got by Fairview, you would get to Cookeville. As a CPA fan, I responded that you are overlooking CPA (which you are). You then respond claiming I said something I never said. Surely you public schoolers know how to read better then that?
  16. You're dreaming, 99. CPA's 1st team defense has given up 12 TD's in 13 games. In 5 games with Top 10 rated teams in 3A and 4A (Goodpasture, Pearl Cohn, and Maplewood), they gave up 10 TD's. That's 1 per game for the season, and 2 per game against Top 10 teams. Milan is a good team, but if they win, it won't be by 2-3 TD's. But, hey, we love being the underdog. Have been the last 2 weeks.
  17. Yep, especially after he used all caps to make his prediction and talk trash.
  18. I felt pretty good at 10pm, and still feel pretty good.
  19. Is Fuch's catfish still operating? used to go there years ago when I did some work in Milan. Or are you cooking something better?
  20. Bradshaw had mild concussion, but is OK. Shame he will miss the Clarksville game tomorrow night and a game or two next week.
  21. Congrats to CAK, and a big shout out to Alcoa and their amazing run that may never be equaled in TN HS sports. In sports, all runs come to an end, but the Tornadoes have a lot to be proud of. Now, on to Milan and a tough game. Would love to play CAK in the Ship. IMO, that would be the best offense in the state against the best defense.
  22. Yeh, we can't beat Milan, just like we couldn't beat PC the first time, Goodpasture, the PC the 2nd time. Get ready to see some real defense.
  23. Congrats to you too! Knew WH couldn't play with you. Hope to see you at TTU in 2 weeks.
  24. Lessons learned from this game: - You can't look at a team in warmups and measure discipline and heart. - 300# linemen are no guarantee you can run the ball. - Special teams are a BIG part of football. - Smaller faster teams can run on bigger teams. - You have to play 2 halves and 4 quarters to win. - If you can hold a team to 3rd and long that can't throw, you will usually win. Congrats to a CPA team that has given up only 2 TD's in 8 quarters to a good PC team. And before all the posts start about PC giving the game away with TO's, CPA wanted it more and other than the 2 bad snaps, they created the TO's. Plus, the bad snaps never would have happened if CPA had not forced the punts.
  25. Thanks. It will be a tough one, but not any worse than PC before or Goodpasture. Team that executes best and least mistakes wins. Good to see Scurlock on E/W team.
