  1. I understand Silverdale starts five freshmen on varsity. So, your point is taken about Lookout Valley being the superior team around this area in Single A. Not that Silverdale has ever been a powerhouse but most Single A schools in this area will be closer to Silverdale than Lookout Valley. Silverdale would have a tough time beating Loftis and especially the Loftis team from last season.
  2. Soddy has some very good sophomores that might have as much upside as Ooltewah's highly touted group.
  3. It depends on the school and classification. Small schools need their best athletes participating in every sport in order to be competitive. Larger schools? Not so much.... I understand that the Farragut baseball coach does not allow his players to play football. That might not be true but That's what I've heard. Also, there are some sports that don't go together. It's rare that you find a wrestler that's a top notch baseball player. Why? Different skill sets apply. Baseball is eye-hand coordination... More on point, baseball players get better in the summer by playing better competition and seeing better pitching than they will see during the school year. If he is going to large AAAAA school, the football coaches expect him to be working out for football. If he doesn't play baseball, he gets behind his peers. And we haven't even mentioned the basketball coach who expects his players to playing in the high school summer league. In AAAAA, most athletes would be relegated to being jack of all trades and master of none if they played three sports. Thirty years ago, it could be done because football practice didn't start until August 15 and the kids actually had summers off to work or whatever. You didn't have all the Select baseball leagues. You had American Legion ball which was reserved for only the "best" baseball players in the area. You get my point....
  4. I watched Hixson beat Ooltewah which appeared to be a fairly, evenly matched contest. However, Hixson was without its best player who is Colton Green who plays ss. Hixson threw Coppinger who is one of the top pitchers in the area. He is a left hander with great stuff and he'll beat most everybody he faces. I believe the Ooltewah starter was a sophomore who was a big kid who threw fairly hard but he struggled with his control. I think his name was Ball. He maybe someone to watch in the future. He was hitting 84 on the radar gun and had a 12-6 breaking ball.
  5. 2-Seam, you remind me of the obnoxious uncle at Christmas. It would help your communication skills if you would try to be pleasant every now and then. I'm beginning think you are an attention hoor. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />
  6. If you're going to improve at baseball, you can't go wrong competing @ East Cobb. Folks actually move to Atlanta so their kid can play there. I've known many players from Chattanooga like Ryan Wilkes that played there as teenagers. I think the joke is on some kids that pay to play for certain organizations, but generally speaking, if you play for East Cobb @ 15/16U, you have to be a serious baseball player. The payment weeds out the lower level player. The top prospect @ Baylor and from Chattanooga is Tyler Massey who I've mentioned in other threads. Is he who you're thinking of? He actually plays 1st base.....
  7. I think 2 seam likes to stir the pot. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  8. I've seen this with baseball as well. They get the names from mailing lists. I would guess this is a very low level of competition because only the well to do can afford it. Don't believe everything you hear.
  9. Shane played at Cleveland State with Alan Walden who went on and played in the Indian organization and roomed with Jim Thome @ Kinston, NC, I think...Not sure where exactly, but if you played at Cleveland St you'll remember Alan I'm sure....
