  1. I agree with this. Great to have Z back. As I said, that changes everything. Miller is going to shoot and the fact is, most of the time, that pays off. He looked a little uncomfortable last night and forced some shots that should have been passes. Miller will have to prepare himself for a year of this kind of defense. Everyone know about him and knows he can go for 30 on any given night. I didn't see the usual relaxed game that Z, Miller and Anderson usually play. A match up zone is what it took last night but I think you have to give the man to man a shot first since CPA has created so many turnovers from it in the past. You're right though, all the points came from Father Ryan's post game. They didn't look like great shooters from the outside. Anderson must shoot well (and he has) to lift this team to the state level again. It's going to be the 4 & 5 slots that will continue to be question marks early on. I like seeing Z and Zelenick on the floor at the same time but you certainly can get in foul trouble quick with that lineup. CPA will win many games just like you saw last night. Z will overpower most teams while Miller and Anderson will have their normal performances most of the time. They've been consistent for years as a group.
  2. CPA wins by 11 tonight against a very tough and well coached Father Ryan team. In fact, Father Ryan gets credit for being very quick defensively and very strong inside. #24 is nothing but pure speed for Father Ryan and defended Miller as well as he can be defended. CPA's Z Mason showed why he was a Mr. Basketball finalist last year. At least four threes for the big man tonight and most of the points. Tonight was a good example of what CPA will see this year. Miller saw the double team and some mugging out front and Father Ryan's post player could not guard Z out on the perimeter. Anderson had his usual smart game with several heads up plays. Zelenick started and had an excellent showing. He's only going to get better. Chapman took care of the ball which was no small effort. CPA handled the scrappy def from Father Ryan and came away with a big win. Same margin as last year. Nice job from Drew Maddux going to the zone against the big man for Father Ryan (who is excellent and headed for Princeton next year). It worked. Watch out DII for Father Ryan. You've got your hands full!
  3. CPA goes to Father Ryan tonight with Z Mason in the line up. Any predictions? Father Ryan has already beat Lipscomb this season. Anyone know any line up details?
  4. Yes, predictable. We've heard this all before. Not all kids that go to private schools (and happen to be atheletes) are recruited. It's ridiculous to even go there. I wasn't preaching about Drew Maddux. I stated that I thought he was a "good find" based on what I've seen in the past from him. I'm not surprised that you would bring up one of the few games that he and Ron Mercer actually lost in High School. There weren't many. Hurt feelings? No, not on this end. The player you "asked" about is a very solid athelete that will play an important role on this team even if you don't think his "numbers" are where they should be. You may have to look at "other" numbers to see his real impact. He is a giant and I do hope you awaken him.
  5. No, Drew can handle it without me. I'm just someone who has watched him play (an All SEC player) at Vandy and watched him coach CPA to a District, Regional and Sub-State title. I believe he's a good find. A guy who's not perfect but who's about all the right things when it comes to his players. That's not saying there aren't other great coaches in the state. Of course there are. Zelnick? He wasn't recruited. What a ridiculous, but predictable, thing to say. His parents decided to send him to a different school. He's a guy with a great shot and spends every waking moment in the gym most of the year. He will have a major impact on the CPA season. You may have just awakened the giant.
  6. First, no one's upset. I said, good for CHS. They won. Drew Maddux can't shoot free throws for the guys and he can't play Z when the doc says no. To say he got out coached is a bit of a stretch. From what I've seen, that is highly unlikely, but possible. To quote a friend, "I guess we'll just wait and see".
  7. No crying here. Like I said, the past is the past. Clarksville gets credit for beating a good CPA team without its main post player. With Z in that game, you likely have a much different outcome. But no matter, Z was not in the game and Clarksville won. Good for them. Way to go. That's a good "W" to get. They hit free throws when it mattered the most!!
  8. When Z gets back, EVERYTHING will change but I think you are right about the depth issue. The 4 and 5 seniors last year, Reeves and Peterson, were both 6'3" with solid skills inside and out and the ability to create on both ends of the floor. You put those two with Z, Miller, & Anderson and you had, in my opinion, the best team in AA last year. The TSSAA refs decided that would not be the case at the State Tournament. The past is the past. Looking ahead, what CPA must have is other players willing and able to "create" more scoring opportunities for Z, Miller, & Anderson. Miller will not be able to do everything off the dribble and by mid season everyone will be coming at him. If I coached against him I'd just go ahead and put two guys on him and make the others beat me. That might not even stop him. He's that good!! Z and Zelnick in the game at the same time. That may be the ticket on some nights. No depth for either post player is a tough situation though. Foul trouble will be, as always, the enemy of this team. Regarding the 4 and 5 spots, it will be the guys who can knock down the big threes that will prevail. With teams doubling up on Miller and Z........Anderson and another guard will win the games that Z doesn't control. The corner three will be important. Chapman can score from there, Taylor, and Akers. Watch for freshmen, Taylor Akers. He may surprise everyone by mid season. Very skilled, just young.
  9. YOU are pathetic. Happy Holidays.
  10. This game will be an early challenge for CPA without Z in the picture. I think between it being a HOF game and Z not being there, it's pretty much a non-event. LA may have the slight advantage without Z in the game for CPA. Don't forget coaching though. I've seen Maddux win by just being in the gym. Not saying that will happen on Saturday but if you're not ready for the deep coaching skill...it can beat you by itself. LA brings a great coach too. Should be fun to watch.
  11. Likely CPA will go undefeated in the district...again. Just so much experience with firepower and size. As always, the key will be staying healthy and getting Z Mason back from football in one piece. I wouldn't want to play them. Who do you guard? Three players with Division I potential in a AA school. That doesn't happen very often. Of course....I guess the TSSAA officials could beat them.......again.
  12. I looked up to the clock the moment the DC shot went in and it said 4.6 seconds. The time out was granted at 3.8 seconds. The DC coach ran out on the floor with 7 fingers in the air. Utterly ridiculous!!! The next thing we know the officicals add 3.2 seconds to the clock to make "7". Our coach is protesting the whole time to no avail. Funny how they would talk the DC coach but not the CPA coach. Absurd, give DC extra time after not starting the clock (sitting at 15 seconds) where DC is dribbling the ball across half court with the clock not started!! Why was there not a stoppage when that happened to correct the clock keepers "nap" that he was on? Actually he was reaching for a drink at that critical moment. Fine work! To the T$$AA officials involved: PATHETIC.
  13. The up side: Dyer County....You do have a great team with great players. "Fast and furious" with great basketball skills. Congrats on a great season. I respect your ability to win without a true post player. Tough to do. Your guys play harder than almost any team I've ever seen. The down side: You lost with integrity to Fulton by simply running out of time and fouls. CPA lost to you with the time keeper and officials showing the worst case of incompetence ever seen in a high school game at this level. No real victory in that. I would rather just lose straight up and go home with the satisfaction that I left it all on the floor. TSSAA should suspend the time keeper and officials that took part in that fiasco.
  14. It's because they know they know they were handed a gift by the worst act of TSSAA officials I've ever witnessed in my life. There is no excuse for this type of gross incompetence. incompetent |in?€k?¤mp?™t?™nt; i ng-| adjective not having or showing the necessary skills to do something successfully : a forgetful and utterly incompetent assistant.Let the boys decide who wins. I call for instant replay!!!!!!!!! You couldn't be more wrong. What a stupid analysis.
  15. Both CPA and DC played a good game. Both excellent teams with great skills. Both schools brought great crowds too. If you narrow it all down.....this whole thing points to the idiotic clock keeper and officials. This biggest moron I've ever seen. He even laughed about it after the game. 15 seconds on the clock and DC brings the ball all the way into the front court without the clock starting. AT LEAST a five second error. No allowance made though. As if it didn't happen. What is that? DC makes a 2 pointer with 4.5 seconds on the clock and the DC coach calls time out (as you should) with 3.8 on the clock. Again the clock keeper is asleep and lets the clock run to long. Then the DC coach protests and miraculously comes up with the figure of 7 seconds. This is an outrage! Officials buy in and put 7 seconds on the clock. I'm sure there is great satisfaction in this victory for DC. Nice job cooking up the 7 seconds coach! Whatever it takes....right? Even if that means make it up as you go. Refs for this game.....you are a disgrace. Clockkeeper........hope you slept well. First game jitters maybe? Still think it's funny? Wait till your name is mentioned a 1000 times to the TSSAA in the next few days. Laugh then. TSSAA.....let the boys decide the games. Put in instant replay. DC.....nice shooting. You got beat and you know it. BUT.... you are fast and furious. Great speed and pressure caused us a lot of problems throughout the game.
  16. I wouldn't worry about CPA being ready. If they are shooting well and Z is "on", DC will have more than conditioning to worry about.
  17. CPA averaged around 70 per game and will run with anyone. CPA was notorious all year for getting a 20 point lead in the first quarter. Not slow or low scoring. The only game they slowed down was the regional final against Giles County. That was the right call for that moment. The sub-state win against Creeek Wood was fast and furious with CPA barely letting CW get a shot off. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  18. You've got to keep the intensity up during a 9 day layoff before state. Maddux is brilliant to schedule this practice in an arena with Antioch, the likely AAA winner. CPA played them tough and smart. They didn't keep score but from what I saw it was a close match up with Antioch being a little more athletic but CPA shooting lights out from all over the court. A lot of weapons. Antioch will be next to impossible to beat in AAA. Speeeeeeed for days and talent but not as disciplined as CPA. Antioch goes deep on the bench as well. If you try to run with Antioch it may spell the end of your season. Could be....possibly.....a middle TN kind of year. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  19. I rest my case. (regarding the posts) Over-rated? Oh, you mean the guy that has gone 31-3 with a state tourney bid. Best record in school history. CPA will not let negative words stand. Congrats to one of the finest coaches any team could ever have. (IMO) A great season with some great kids. Drew, I fully expect to see you coaching D1 one of these days. In the meantime, I hope you continue being "over-rated" so we can continue breaking records. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  20. If you go back and read what the two in question have been consistantly feeding the forum then you would know what I'm talking about. They don't talk basketball, they attack players and our coach. I won't apoligize for not approving of that. As far as trash talking goes, there isn't any in my posts. I know any team can win on a given night. The CPA sectional game was not a close game. I never said it would or wouldn't be. This does not for one minute indicate any disrespect for any team we've played. All the boys and coaching staffs work hard. Congratulations to them all.
  21. No trash talking here! None..whatsoever. Just tired of reading the same ridiculous posts that are harmful, name-names and untrue as opposed to just a difference of opinion. Go back and read their posts if you care to discuss it further. If anyone has bad "form" it's these two posters who refuse to talk about the positive things that come from this great game and instead spend most of their time railing our coach and players. And by the way......who made you the "form" official? Bad form for electing yourself to this position.
  22. Pleassssssseeeeeee! Is there a bigger fool than you? No, except for maybe "ballin13" . CPA 69--CW 41 with the CPA starters not playing the last five minutes. A total blowout with CW barely able to get a shot off most of the night.
  23. Many thanks to the fine folks at Lipscomb for agreeing to host the substate game between CPA and Creek Wood. It will feel like a home court for sure. A nice, cooperative gesture from Lipscomb that shows a lot of class.
