  1. Nerves got the best of us. Except Brown. Great game by her. Would love to see us make it back next year.
  2. Macon is a different team since then as well. Losing to Upperman lit a fire under them.
  3. I can’t really rank because I don’t know much about all the teams...I will say Westview got beat pretty bad by Cumberland County in a tournament earlier. SG beat Gatlinburg by 5 in substate, and DeKalb lost to Gatlinburg by 5 in December. But all that also gets thrown out the window this time of the year. Anything can happen in the glass house. I will say, from what little I’ve gotten to see if everyone, that Macon, Cheatham, and SG are probably my top three.
  4. The way people are talking we are getting matched up with a team from the East. Idk. I think we can play with SG after seeing their score against Gatlinburg. We will have to see. It’s the teams that feel like they have nothing to lose or that people say “aren’t supposed to be there” that often times play best. Like I said, either way I’m proud of them. And either way they get a banner of some sort in the gym and a little history for the 5v5 program. And the in-laws would LOVE to babysit but mom and baby are a single package right now so that’s not an option. What better first game than a state tournament game though??
  5. Planning on it! I think my in-laws think I’m crazy. But it could be once in a lifetime!
  6. I’ve been posting on this site for a while now, and never thought we would be at this point so soon. Even if we go over there and get ran off the floor it’s a great experience for the returning players next year!
  7. DC pulls of the stunner, 44-42. So proud of these girls.
  8. #4 was key in our win over Cumberland. She picked their D apart, and was a big reason they called their press off before halftime. And #12 comes up big when we need her. Senior experience. We played a good half. Let’s just hope nerves don’t get the better of us.
  9. You may be right. But we’ve loved being the underdog the past couple of games. This has been a historic year for us regardless. Even just a sectional game.
  10. Little girl and they are both fantastic! Thank you for asking. And it really makes me happy hearing that assessment coming from someone who doesn’t really have a bias. Fish caught a lot of flak when he got the job. How big of a loss Cope was. Liked Cope. Nice guy. But his most successful year was his first. With a senior laden group that had been someone else’s. Fish is in his third year now. He had a lot to do with our success. Plus being blessed with some really good players.
  11. Well said. We will still have a good 1-2 punch even after losing Brown. And the rest of this years sophomores may step up in a big way to fill out the depth too.
  12. She and Agee are pretty close talent wise, just play different positions. So glad we get three more years with them. Also been down a post player in Megan Walker, who is also missing her sophomore softball season.
  13. It’s just scary to think how good this sectional is too. The only good thing DC has going into substate is that we don’t see McMinn or Meigs very often, if ever, so the intimidation factor that plays into a game against Macon or Upperman won’t be there. That being said I know how crazy McMinn Centrals gym can get if we have to go there.
  14. No......I don’t think anyone from DC is under any illusions as to who’s going to be yelling for who Wednesday. There are very few people who watch sports who haven’t cheered for the upset every now and then. Take it as a compliment of how good you are that people are tired of seeing you win. UHS is really young, and maybe seeing all the different people there cheering against them got in their heads. But I don’t see it happening many more times. They’ll eventually get tired of that and get mad. That’s all it takes to thrive in those environments.
  15. I was in shock when we did that!
  16. This was not meant as a jab. Some coaches are really good at that and they are! Does that detract from Dana’s accomplishments or the great players she has developed? Not at all. You guys are a scary team the next few seasons. Dread playing you!
  17. Thank you! And I’m not sure how formats were when Betty Carol Fite (who scored like 3200 points for DC) played in the 60s. But they placed 4th in the state then. Fun fact, I was informed the other night that Brown is Fite’s granddaughter.
  18. I’m not one to blame refs for losses. But in girls AND boys games against UHS I notice the foul count can get lopsided against their opposing team many times. Bobby and Dana are wizards at working referees. Credit to them. But it’s nice to see it go against them sometimes too!!
  19. I’m going to be honest I don’t know why I put PG. SG...my mistake. Ruch has been vital to our success lately. She picked CC apart Friday
  20. Pretty much that whole UHS squad is coming back..so maybe only temporarily lol. Still, I’m so proud of the girls from DC.
  21. Makes me excited for next season too. Losing the three seniors will be tough but we have a freshman PG who only got to play a couple of games that would’ve been in the freshman of the year discussion with Ferrell and Crouch. This is great experience for our young players too, and a great sendoff to three amazing seniors.
  22. Just go back to the days when I was in high school amid that 100+ game district losing drought, winning 2-3 games a year. Big step for this program, even if we get ran off the floor by Macon Wednesday. But who knows, maybe we stay hot?
