  1. Not sure of his exact W/L record, but he has been wrestling as well as anyone on our team this season. Works very hard and has a great attitude. Looking forward to his match against Marchetti of FR.
  2. I remember one year they were serving white beans and corn bread. Good eats especially for a concession stand. Hope you guys are cooking those up again.
  3. This Hames boy seems to be tearing it up at 103 much like Zack Watson. These boys need a match!
  4. Jake's dad - how many times have you chastised other posters for making these type of comments after an Owls victory? Based on the "fire in their bellies and chips on their shoulders" factor, the Owls get to remain the Owls with the possible exception of the turtle dove sitting on the front row of the bleachers laughing it up with his buddies instead of going to war with his team mates. Baylor's hero for the night was CB Ragland. Great job CB coming through with a big pin. Ooltewah's hero from my perspective for improvement since I saw them vs Red Bank is Tyler Toon as it appears he has made the adjustment to the big leagues. Props out to my HWC boys as they were 5-0 no matter which side of the mat they were sitting on. BAYLOR 44, OOLTEWAH 22 (Match started at 125) 103 - Zach Watson ( pinned Will Allen, 5:48; 112 - Alex Manley ( pinned Jamie Spencer, 1:02; 119 - Stuart Doster ( pinned Sergio Herrera, 2:46; 125 - Bailey Whitaker ( major dec. Cody Corcoran, 11-2; 130 - Cody Hood (O) dec. Cole Hayes, 9-2; 135 - Daniel Wild (O) dec. Trey Stavrum, 7-6; 140 - Chanse Hayes ( pinned Brent Elliott, 5:47; 145 - C.B. Ragland ( pinned Evan Hubbs, 1:42; 152 - Colton Popp ( major dec. Jared Wolfe, 13-2; 160 - David Jordan (O) dec. Wesley Idlette, 12-5; 171 - Jake Young (O) major dec. David Helton, 19-8; 189 - Tyler Toon (O) pinned Battle Glascock, 4:31; 215 - Joe Scott ( pinned Aaron Hamlett, 1:12; 285 - Cody Sliger (O) dec. Tyler Watson, 3-1.
  5. Yes RMC - the owls have a core group of guys who have been in the sport since elementary school who can compete with most anybody. Their program has enjoyed tremendous improvement over the past couple of years. I live in the area and usually catch several of their matches and have been very disappointed this year. I haven't seen the excitement, the passion, the enthusiasm, or the attitude of a winner through their entire lineup - a few have but not the whole group. Every one of you should look in the mirror and ask yourself "is he talking about me?". They wrestled way below their abilities and got shoved around by Cleveland earlier in the season - IN THEIR OWN HOUSE. This team should have stepped forward this year to be the top team in the state but instead they are about the same as the year before. Maybe a little success has killed their appitite? If they don't show up tonight with some fire in their bellies and a chip on their shoulder, then I'm going to petition to have their name changed from OWLS to the turtle doves - so calm and peaceful.
  6. Hey noonesfool - how about a dining reccomendation for tomorrow evening for the parents?
  7. Watson hasn't had a competitive/close match this entire season and continues to wrestle with great confidence. Allen is a fine young man but I've not seen anything to lead me to believe he will be competitive with Watson either. Watson by pin or tech. Will Bradberry show up on weight as this could be an interesting match? Hard to tell as Bradberry has competed so little this season. Hood / Hayes has every indication of a great match worthy of the price of admission alone. Really looking forward to this one. Both guys go hard for 6 minutes. 152 and 160 should be close matches based on this season's performances. I challenge Ooltewah to bring their fans out to support their team. Show some heart Owls and compete with passion to make this a great match. If you show up like zombies as you did against Cleveland, then the Red raiders will lay a worse whippen on you then the Blue raiders did. Are you going to defend your house or lay down? Wow! - what about it BearCat and Jake's dad?
  8. That's what I'm looking for is a wager....contact me off-line.
  9. Unfortunately, Frank the tank is dry docked for this season so will you be banking the no pin for Mix wager? No disrespect for Mr. Herrman. My optimism is based solely on the progress of our other Watson - not an underestimation of Herrman. Funny - FR's Wesley vs Bay's Wesley Idellette
  10. Sure hope he's OK as the folks in the bleachers were concerned it was something really bad. I thought I was watching one of those Lynn Bias / Hank Gathers things at the time. Our prayers are with you.
  11. If Marchetti is now a 140 lbr, the individual match of this dual will be him and Chance Hayes IMHO. Chance has been wrestling as well as anyone on the Red team lately. Our other Watson has been making good progress of late and I'm optimistic he can give Herrman a battle. I'm looking to lay a significant bet that Mix will not get his pin. If anyone is interested we'll get together off-line with the details.
  12. Is this the same allsaints who two years back chastised the EBE on this very board for the use of "semi pro youth athletes" and just earlier this year complained of the EBE allowing a parent to enter the wrestling room and coach his son during a challenge match? When did you start drinking the blue koolaid? Of the 6 boys I listed, 4 placed at the state tourney in the last 2 years, 1 should have placed at 189 last year, and 1 was displaced from the lineup last year by the midseason transfer - not the bunch of scrubs you infer. I can name kids that won the state tourney who also never won a challenge match so I don't follow your logic as to why you think anyone is envying the EBE staff. Keep sipping that koolaid as the EBE needs a voice on this board since wrestle90, bluewhirlygig and their others have disappeared. BTW - how did the EBE come out in Oveda FL?
  13. To clarify, the CH supporter was one of several who were on the floor behind the CH's wrestler's chairs. The Baylor bench was the adjacent front row of the bleachers. Since this was a duals tourney with 6 mats going, there was not the normal demarcation between the fans and match participants. The CH supporter was standing with the score and time keepers behind the head table during his protest which might have confused the ref to believe the CH supporter was part of the head table? For In Hoc's benefit, rule 6-6-6 states the coach will discuss his protest "directly in front of the scorer's table" so maybe we're not quite as ignorant of the rules as accused.
  14. RMC - thanks to Collins Hill for inviting us down for another schooling. We at the red legged school need to figure out something more to gain some ground on you guys. It was a good day of wrestling as the Park Hill group gave several of our boys a wrestling lesson also. We didn't match up with them but it appeared FR wrestled strong with their lineup finally at full strength. The ref did get the coaches and fans on his case after the CH supporter (not Ramos or his assistant) protested a call to the ref from the head table. The ref then consulted a young lady with the tapping towel on whether the previously awarded takedown occurred in bounds - there was still 37 seconds on the clock so time was not an issue. After careful deliberation with the input of the CH supporter and the teenage girl, the ref reversed his prior ruling and removed the awarded takedown. Never seen that one before. Why is it in the finals of these dual tourneys (not only at CH but pretty much every one I've attended) an assistant ref is not utilized? That was a hard match to officiate with numerous takedowns occurring on the edge. If nothing else, I'm sure some moral support would have been welcomed considering the level of excitment of the coaches, wrestlers, and fans. Regardless, it was all good competition and the better team won. It's nice to hear our fans were so entertaining to those critics who's teams came in either 6th or 10th place. We'll consider the source of who's advising us of our need to learn the rules.
  15. Walkenvol's statement; "McC appears to have big problems with 6 past starters quiting the program leaving their best wrestlers as 8th and 9th graders" Walkenvol's list to substantiate his statement; Perrin, Silberman, Scott, Hughes, Bible, Kell who have all started varsity matches in the past 2 seasons for the EBE. Spin it any way you like, but the facts are the facts - no rumers (bogus or otherwise) involved.
  16. Dang, is CBHS accepting transfers?
  17. Come on BCB, you know that wasn't the purple team I was talking about - it was the blue team. Don't believe it will generate any discussion though as it appears their remaining few supporters have abandonded ship.
  18. How did he match up against your 112?
  19. Buck - the view from my location smack dab in the middle of the red haze is a bit different from BCB's. FR was justifiably the preseason favorite in light of their returning starters in those upper weights. Baylor probably has the edge in most of the lower weights. The difference being FR's strength was heavy in senior / junior tallent while Baylor is much younger on average. Common sense says take the experience. FR has dropped slightly in the polls due to competing without a few of their horses. Baylor got off to a fast start but has experienced a couple of injuries. A match between a full strength FR vs a full strength Baylor on a neutral site is a pick it IMHO. FR has the slight edge with it being be a home match for them. No offense intended to any of those refs that troll here, but one has to also wonder how well the match will be officiated with the tallent diluted between 2 duals tourneys? Anything less than full strength puts either team at a distinct disadvantage. Not sure what is keeping those guys out of the FR lineup? If Baylor comes through, the coach of the year award may need to go to the team doctor. It appears that CBHS is the wildcard capable of knocking off one of the front runners. BA is certainly on the rise but most folks are waiting to hop on that wagon until they win a couple big matches. McC appears to have big problems with 6 past starters quiting the program leaving their best wrestlers as 8th and 9th graders. Hard to figure what's going on at MBA with them also missing several past competitors?
  20. Looks like Ward Gossup has developed a case of class envy by taking jabs at a man's financial donations. Thank you Mr. Jones for your efforts to strengthen wrestling at UTC, Cleveland, and any where else you choose. Better wrestling at any of these places makes for better wrestling in TN which ultimately benefits everyone who is interested in wrestling in TN. Isn't it amazing how the folks that don't donate finances to help support these programs like to critque someone who is laying down the cash to make things better? My Christmas wish is for several more Mr. Jones types to appear through out TN who are willing to help wrestling, either that or I get Mr. Jones's green and I'll help out - I think I'll go with the second one.
  21. You might consider reading the rules before you correct others? 7-6-3 - It is stalling in the neutral position when a wrestler prevents the opponent from returning to or remaining inbounds.
  22. Come on now, an old Dad vs a studly young coach??? Now Dad to Dad - Bayou vs Walkenvol - I like the red team's chances. We have a couple of young studly coaches we could throw out against the legman if your looking for coach vs coach. IMHO, your missing a real opportunity to provide the fans (especially BCB) the ultimate experience by not matching up BC moms vs TBSFBAG moms to break the tie. Another possibility would be a sound decible meter to measure which side of the bleachers pleaded longer and louder for the stalling calls or informed the ref of when the pinning criteria was met throughout the match. Or maybe an over/under on how many hits the web site would get if the match was webcast? What ever the criteria, the red team is still willing and hasn't scheduled all their TSSAA allowable dates so give us a call - I'm sure we'll be glad to come to your house first.
  23. Don't know where your coming from with the "Baylor guy" comment as I doubt you can provide an example of where either of my boys (or pretty much any of the kids I've ever coached) didn't wrestle in the center of the mat unless it was chasing their opponent. This is where we part ways. There are the "interpertation" stalling calls such as "wrestle aggressive", no doubt means different things to different folks. There are also the black and white calls that are regularly made - hold opponents heel to his buttocks for 5 seconds, not attempt to take the defensive wrestler back to the mat for 5 seconds when he stands. These black and white calls as I've stated are not usually made - not wrestling in the center 10-foot circle, two hands locked around the defensive wrestler's leg to prevent the excape or reversal. Pretty clear to me but yet is not uniformly called???? You are correct sir - the easy way out.
  24. CCAggie - If you cowboy up enough to introduce yourself to these guys you choose to anonymously insult, I predict you will become very familiar with "repeated slaps to the head and pokes in the eye". Got to love these coachT one time posters. Thank you! Hey, up to 1,000 posts in 5 years.....lot's of "good discussion".
  25. Then I stand corrected and salute you for being one of the rare few officials in TN who use the correct application of this rule. Will you at least concede this rule is misapplied by the vast majority? My apologies if I inferred you had not read the rule book as my intent was to reread the section of the rule book in question. I officiated for 12 years and am very familiar with the testing/training involved concerning the rule book. I watch matches and am fairly supportive of the split second calls that go the wrong way for these will always be a part of the sport. A call had to be made in an instant and the guy did the best he could. What I have no patience for are the misapplication of the rules that happen regularly, especially those that aren't instantanious type of calls. All of that responsibility doesn't lie solely on the official IMHO as the coaches are responsible to go to the head table for correction when a rule is misapplied. Most coaches don't even carry a rule book to the matches. To quote Tommy Boy, I don't have to stick my head up a bull's arse to know a good t-bone when I see it. Coming from somebody who has officiated, folks don't have to have officiated themselves to know bad officiating when they see it. There are a lot of good folks out there officiating who do a quality job and you sound like one of those.
