  1. The match between Alabama Blue (first team) and Florida was very intense and some of the best wrestling. It was unfortunate that a FL Dad pushed down the kid from AL. Wrestling is a very physical sport and unfortunately kid's can get in akward positions that can potentially cause harm, but in most cases these things are not done purposely. The refs are quick to blow the whistle when a potential danger exists and that happened in that match. The refs are very qualified and I didn't see any bad calls or questionable calls such as the ones that I have seen in the youth tournaments in Tennessee. The Dixie Duals has been in the Birmingham area for at least the last three years not two because my son has wrestled in the Dixie Duals for the past three years. It was in Tennessee prior to that. The Alabama kids did have to weigh in just like everyone else. They weighed in at Pizitz Middle School where they picked up their Team AL stuff. By the way, none of the kids looked larger then their opponent. In the past they have all weighed in at the same place and it can be a mad house with that many kids coming to weigh in. They offered more than one place for teams to weigh in to hopefully keep from getting so backed up. As far as switching wrestlers between AL Blue and AL Red, I did not see. However, it would have been obvious since they wore two different colors, thus the Blue and Red. The Blue team was their first team and the Red team was their second team. My son has wrestled for Team AL in the past and now wrestles in Tennessee. He beat both Team AL kids so it really didn't matter what color - Blue or Red. We need to let the kids wrestle and prove themselves on the mat and we as parents need to show good sportsmanship.
  2. WCWC's 75 lb Brooks Knight that won the west region junior is at the Dixie Duals and is wrestling on the 70 lb middle school team for 3-D and has won all four matches today against the first Team Alabama team, South Carolina, Nashville Catholic and DQ (SYWO team). Two pins, a major decision and a decision. Total team points are 19.
  3. Does anyone know how many kids had to be scratched because of going to Dixie Duals? The wrestling has been very good at the dual meet and competition has been much better than AAU wrestling tournaments.
  4. Any reason why NCW went independent? We have seen much better wrestling in USA run tournaments.....
  5. If anyone knows how to find the results from any of the Tennessee tournaments please share. The brackets are not even updated during the tournaments. It is obviously a big secret! Maybe so politics can keep playing as to who the top wrestlers are....
  6. The tournament was nicely done and in a nice facility. However, the time changes between matches was inconsistent and confusing. We started with the first match at 2-2-2 and won. We went to the second match which was the gold medal round and it was 1-1-1. We won, but when you only have 1-1-1, how can any kid score many points. It is injustice for all kids participating in the tournament. There have not been consistent match times for any of the tournaments in Tennessee. I don't know if this is isolated to wrestling in Tennessee, but if Tennessee wants to be competitive the official times based on rules should be followed for every tournament and it shouldn't change in the middle of the tournament. For instance in USA wrestling the bantoms wrestle 1-1-1, the midgets and novice (junior) are 1.5-1.5-1.5 and schoolboy (middle) and high school are 2-2-2. This does not change throughout the tournament at least in the Alabama and Georgia tournaments that we have been involved in for many years. How can Tennessee expect to compete with other states if their boys are conditioned to at times 1-1-1 when they will compete with 2-2-2. The other problem that has been noticed until really the last two tournaments is inexperience of the referrees. This was especially noticed in Clarksville which was a joke. The same applies to the Sherriffs Sharpshooter tournament for the younger ones. If this is how AAU runs their tournaments then to be competitive, Tennessee may want to reconsider their affiliation. Wrestling should not be about politics and we have noticed more of that here in Tennessee then in other states. It is about one wrestler vs. another and the best one wins. This is also how a true Team Tennessee should be selected. The best should represent the state and that can only be found on the mat. Maybe this is why you can't search on our tournaments and find the winners and track them like you can in trackwrestling.com.
