The tournament was nicely done and in a nice facility. However, the time changes between matches was inconsistent and confusing. We started with the first match at 2-2-2 and won. We went to the second match which was the gold medal round and it was 1-1-1. We won, but when you only have 1-1-1, how can any kid score many points. It is injustice for all kids participating in the tournament. There have not been consistent match times for any of the tournaments in Tennessee. I don't know if this is isolated to wrestling in Tennessee, but if Tennessee wants to be competitive the official times based on rules should be followed for every tournament and it shouldn't change in the middle of the tournament. For instance in USA wrestling the bantoms wrestle 1-1-1, the midgets and novice (junior) are 1.5-1.5-1.5 and schoolboy (middle) and high school are 2-2-2. This does not change throughout the tournament at least in the Alabama and Georgia tournaments that we have been involved in for many years. How can Tennessee expect to compete with other states if their boys are conditioned to at times 1-1-1 when they will compete with 2-2-2. The other problem that has been noticed until really the last two tournaments is inexperience of the referrees. This was especially noticed in Clarksville which was a joke. The same applies to the Sherriffs Sharpshooter tournament for the younger ones. If this is how AAU runs their tournaments then to be competitive, Tennessee may want to reconsider their affiliation. Wrestling should not be about politics and we have noticed more of that here in Tennessee then in other states. It is about one wrestler vs. another and the best one wins. This is also how a true Team Tennessee should be selected. The best should represent the state and that can only be found on the mat.
Maybe this is why you can't search on our tournaments and find the winners and track them like you can in trackwrestling.com.
