  1. FRA was very young last year. The game time they logged last year will serve them well.
  2. What is the 50% rule? How many games a week?
  3. You may want to try contacting the AD at Independence High School in Thompson Station. I think they are looking for an assistant football coach. His name is Kurt Jones, kurtj@wcs.edu. The head football coach is Jason Eubanks, jasone@wcs.edu. IHS website wcs.edu/ihs
  4. Who was the QB for Indepedence?
  5. Indy was 9-2 at the Vandy 7 on 7 camp this past weekend. This shows the skill players are in place to compete. They lost to MBA 11-8 in the quarter finals. Football games are won on the line. Line play will be the strength of Franklin and Brentwood and sets them apart from the rest.
  6. I wonder who the quarterback was?
  7. Haislip did transfer to Riverdale, following Coach Maxwell. Her 15U AAU team based out of Memphis won the nationals this year. She is going into her junior year. If she gets stronger IMO she will be a D-1 prospect.
  8. Any news on how the teams are fairing?
  9. Wouldn't really matter, the point is Heckman will start at QB. I'm amazed you think otherwise. My guess is you are just trying to stir the pot with no true knowledge of the ingredients.
  10. This was Coach Reed's idea. This proactive approach is what the program needs. This event was also open to the middle school, community event, and several were in attendance. Did not take a head count but all the tables were full and a few were left standing. Coach Reed said this is the largest class of 9th graders in the school's short history. Due to the late hire, and TSSAA blackout rules, try-outs will be the first day of allowable practice 10/27. Coach Reed did say she plans on having 3 teams, (freshmen, JV, V). This will be the first time for a freshmen girls team at IHS.
  11. With only one returning starter on the o-line, mobility will be important. Smith is a pocket passer, Heckman has shown he is the more mobile of the two.
  12. Heckman won the starting job from Smith last year. It was Heckman who quarterbacked IHS to the championship game. The underclassmen combine further states the qualities of this special player. Being a senior is irrelevant, the best player will start. Did you see both Heckman and Smith play last year? Heckman was clearly the best QB.
  13. Smith could be out after only 2 years?
  14. The last post was great and shows a parent and student athelete that has their priorities straight. I found the last sentence most telling, and is the problem most have with the "transfer-go-round". BUT, if a person is transferring just because they think they can win more, or because they have a better shot at a scholly, then they are foolish, in my opinion. Well said.
  15. Heckman will be the QB for IHS, they will find another place (WR) for Smith. The following is an excerpt from a posted story. This past weekend the National Underclassmen Combine came to Middle Tennessee to evaluate the talent in the current 9th grade and 10th grade classes. We had several guys attend the combine held at Battle Ground Academy on Saturday. Those that went were: Dalton Burge, Alex Heckman, Zack Neiderland, Austin Hastings, Kreg Kinnaman, Shaun McKay, Greg Parker and Nathan Hawkins. The combine was a great test for these guys and also a great way to see how they measure up against guys their age, at their positions, etc. The combine is also a great way for guys to showcase their talents and gain the quality exposure for recruiting purposes in the near future. It should also be noted here that one of our players, Alex Heckman (QB), was recognized as the Combine MVP in the morning session. Alex is now eligible and invited to attend the Elite/Ultimate 100 Combine this summer. Congrats to Alex, and props to the rest of the guys that went and represented Independence Eagles Football.
  16. Yeah buddy! Nice event with a majority of the team their. Good vibrations from everyone. Interesting twist to the event, a new athletic director was introduced, Coach Jones. He came over with Dr. Campbell (new principal) from Franklin High School. DH will remain as the boys basketball coach.
  17. I have not met the new coach, but will get that oppurtunity today. Coach Reed is having a social event for the community. Great idea to start things off, including IHS and the feeder middle schools. This is how you build a program, make it a community effort, with strong leadership, and watch it flourish.
  18. Can't compare football to basketball, 50-70 players a team, compared to 12 for basketball. Football numbers will always be greater.
  19. Absolutely love this post. 12 this is an Elite post!
  20. There is now a small blurb on the hiring on the IHS website. Go to the girls basketball page to see it.
  21. 12 made some great points. The first paragraph of the post was great. Playing for your high school with the kids you grew up with is truly a lifetime experience. I have to think young people that miss this experience are being influenced by adults with their own agendas. Not to sound corny, but some have forgot, "there is no I in team." Division I college programs are influenced more by AAU programs and elite camp results. Players spend more time in these programs than they do in their high school programs. Good high school coaches can help the players get to the right camps and AAU programs to maximize their exposure. "Just Win Baby" has become an obsession for our society. The media bombards us with the selfish examples of pro athletes and coaches looking out for numero uno almost on a daily basis. More recently, this attitude has trickled into the college ranks. This has to influence today's high school atheletes. Everyone's situation is unique and none of us should judge others. We can only hope decisions on transferring are made with the student's best interest in mind.
  22. This update is sent in e-mail form directly to the IHS community. Why this has not been announced to the media only the IHS administrators can answer. Seems like a good story with many local ties.
  23. It's official, announcement came from IHS principal, Dr. Todd Campbell in the weekly community update. Congratulations to Coach Reed and the Lady Eagle basketball program.
