  1. Congrats, Blue Raiders, on the win. And thank you for keeping the "Blue Scourge" out of Murfreesboro for at least one year. Thankfully we will be spared from seeing all the blue-haired Eaglette fans (and the 27 fans they have in the 18-34 demographic) at the glass house. I don't think they allow refunds for tickets sold, so all the Eaglette fans may be out there scalping tickets, though. Hopefully Slick Rick's henchmen didn't bother your fans by offering the parents of the good Cleveland players low financing on a house and a six figure job at Tyson. Seriously, you may have made history tonight, b/c I know of no other time in history that Shelbyville lost a substate game. Maybe you Eaglette historians can check me on that. And I did check. There will still be a state tournament next week, even though Shelbyville is not there!
  2. greenwheel, that's pretty impressive on those records. The '92 and '93 region champ. games are the best ones of this rivalry in my opinion, esp. '92. I was really rootin' for OHS at that time and they had like a 15 point 3rd quarter lead, then Columbia with Goff, Pillow, and Bailey (and that tall white guy whose name escapes me) surged back. Real good game in the Shelbyville gym. This is one of the most storied interdistrict rivalries in the midstate, and tonight should not disappoint the 4AAA fans in attendance.
  3. I don't know if I've ever seen 2 8AA teams winning like this in the first round of the region.
  4. Was this a 1-4 game. Did WSHS finish 4th in their district?
  5. The last score I heard on this one was 37-34 White Co. 5:43 to go in the game. The big Fresh. for Shelbyville fouled out.
  6. The problem with that is 105.5 is also the Sparta station and it's a little stronger than YTM. I'm going to get my signs and march up and down Church St.!
  7. Pretty sure it was '94 b/c I remember it being so far to drive to Lawrenceburg. That's the only time I remember the region being in Lburg. The district was there in '90, but that's all I remember. They've got a nice gym, but way too far for most teams in the region. They did that for a few years having the region in off the wall places (Sparta, Lebanon), but they wised up and put it where it belongs after that, the Boro! I thought it was good in Shelbyville also, b/c of its location in the center of the region. But there have been some great battles btwn White Co. and Shelbyville, with the Eaglettes taking a sizeable portion of them. The only post season victory I can recall for the Warriorettes would be '93, with Amber Clark and Jolly as sophomores, as well as Woodson and Sparrow as sophomores. I think Mariah Lonergan was a junior. Is that the only White Co. win over Shelbyville in the postseason, oh guru of Eaglette trivia?
  8. As you recall, Kelly had just come off that knee injury and made it back just in time for those region games. But was I right or not about it being '94 and not '95 when Clark made the steal?
  9. I believe the Finals game you are speaking of is the 1994 Final in Lawrenceburg, when Allison was a Freshman and Kellie Jolly was a Junior. You're excused on account of your old age. In '95 Shelbyville had an easier time with Sparta in Lebanon. It was b/c the Lady Raiders tired Sparta out in the semifinal round. Napoleon will meet his Waterloo in Sparta tonight!
  10. Recently, Region 3AA has merely been a speedbump for the Mack truck named Region 4AA (specifically District 7AA). Region 3AAA is much the same for Region 4AAA. District 6AA is absolutely inferior, having been swept by 5AA in the region on a few occasions.
  11. Tell me this game will be on WGNS tonight. If not, I'm gonna picket the station!
  12. With 1+ years left, the jury is still out. But, when healthy, she is definitely a force. I can tell you that Sgt. York would be proud to have her in his infantry division! If only she could make those turkey gobble sounds to distract the shooter!
  13. flem or showtime may know this, but the last time in the post season that the Eaglettes came to Sparta was in '93, when the Lady Warriors derailed the "Middle Tennessee All-Stars". I'm hoping for more of the same tonight. Any time Napoleon gets knocked down a peg, ole cc is happy!
  14. If she's good, she may be who they need to turn it around. They need to get girls in there who have not experienced losing so much. Sometimes it just takes a couple of girls who won't accept losing to give the team a breath of fresh air. And that was good that Madison got all tourney.
  15. didyouseethatmess, do you have your user name written in green on your car or was that someone else on Thompson Lane this morning? Maybe that's the Siegel catch phrase or something, but I saw it on a car this morning. I've been proud of Siegel, my new favorite school in RuthCo, this year. Hopefully I'll make it to Blackman next week, cuz I want to check this crazy student section out (and see some good basketball).
  16. Hey topper, we get it. Your student section is the best. We're all wrong and you're right. Everyone else's is a joke. The Cutlip Crazies are in fact the best student section in the history of organized sports. The Cameron Crazies actually go to Johnson City to learn new cheers. I heard they invented The Wave there at SHHS. The Terrible Towel, the Homer Hankie, and the Rally Monkey all have their origins from Johnson City. I believe I first heard "Cowboy Up" at a Hilltoppers game. So you got us all, dude. I know my old school doesn't match up. All we did was clap when our team did well and boo at the refs every now and then.
  17. dixiepixie, you must be from under the hill (people from DeKalb know what that means). Apparently, DeKalb Middle has better talent now, cuz I don't think West school did too well this season, although West school has been better traditionally. I have no qualms with Coach Harrison. I believe the players like him also. The main problem is, as someone posted, the sheer lack of talent. I don't know how hard they work, but they really should work on their shooting. They have a hard time hitting shots in warmups, much less in the games. Going in to games I don't think the girls even feel they have a prayer of winning, but years of losing breeds that, I guess. Good luck next year Lady Tigers.
  18. My vote would be for Julie Powell, but my knowledge of this district goes back only to about '87 or so. Also, there was a girl from DeKalb Co. named Mary Ann Puckett who was dominant but had very little help. Went to Duke then transferred to Belmont. Her '93 team was the best Tiger team since the '65 state tournament appearance. And I know this is nitpicky, but it was 8AA for awhile. I don't know exactly the years on that, but most of us know which schools you're talking about.
  19. I think Shelbyville will win this game, play Riverdale on the road Monday night and win, then get humiliated next Wed by Columbia. But I'll take a Shelbyville loss tomorrow if it comes.
  20. Great game. OHS seals it with some late free throws.
  21. Tough loss for the Dawgs. If I'm Smyrna, I'm tanking that cons. game tom. so I can get out of MJ's bracket. That would put Smyrna against the district 10AAA winner, and then Wilson Central most likely if both get through. This is a much easier road to the state tournament, b/c as far as I'm concerned, both teams from region 5AAA will make it to state. Region 6AAA usually stinks it up in substate.
  22. Congrats to the Panthers! Anyone but Oak Ridge!
  23. Agreed. I don't know that I would have "tanked" a game so that I could go to Fayetteville (or Columbia) so that I could get in an easier bracket. That's pure poppycock whoever insinuated that. Normally, I'd welcome a first round game with Lincoln Co., but apparently they are a different team this year. I think it'll still be Oakland-Columbia in the finals, just b/c I'm looking forward to watching that one at Blackman.
  24. Whoever that coach is must be some kind of coach to turn Smyrna around. Either that or Coach Donaldson did very little with what she had previously. It's good to see them playing ball like they did when Coach Gill was there!
  25. Some lady from Warren Co. was at the Chick-Fil-A tonight and said how "horrible" the Siegel student section was tonight, what with their loudness and rudeness. So, I guess there's another vote for the Siegel nation.
