  1. He was being recruited hard by Liberty at one time but I'm not sure that is still the case. I was told that another QB committed to them and they did not want to take more than 1 QB. That may have changed, just not sure.
  2. Ha. No wadded panties here. But if your own "faithful" don't have your back who will? Golden boy is correct, as in 2 Gold Balls that we most likely wouldn't have without him. But I do understand that CH just doesn't meet the profile for many recruiters and it is an obstacle that he may/may not overcome. It doesn't bother me at all for people to have a differing opinion. Some of the posts have included some sarcasm as well, which has been pointed out.
  3. Charlie has made his mark in TN high school football without question. It will most likely be awhile before his name is replaced in the record books. Certainly even more impressive when you consider he set almost all of his records in just 2 years as a starter. He certainly has benefitted from CRB's offensive scheme in addition to having a great pass blocking offensive line and the best high school receiving corps I have ever seen from top to bottom. But his accuracy (74.4% career), allusiveness, pocket presence, field vision and ability to call the blocking schemes and blitz pick ups is a result of a very skilled QB. I don't believe he is an SEC level quarterback, but I'm surprised that D1 schools like MTSU haven't shown more interest or even D2 schools like Furman. Regardless if he every plays a snap at the college level or not we sure have been fortunate at CAK to have him. He would probably make a good QB coach down the road if he chooses to go in that direction.
  4. Not sure of the extent of the injuries, but his shoulder has been bothering him most of the year and the wrist got banged up pretty bad in the first Alcoa game. He also bruised his sternum against Betsy stretching for a first down. I tell you, he is a tough kid, not just a pretty boy QB, although he is still a momma's boy
  5. GVK gave a nice endorsement of Charlie High that I agree with. He is a competitor and a winner. He has put in more film study with Coach Bradley than many college QB's put in. And he does things the right way. His pocket presence and ability to read all kinds of defensive coverages (believe me, he has seen a bunch of them) is advanced well beyond his high school years. He could walk right into a D1 level program and understand terminology, routes and coverages almost immediately due to the complexity of Coach Bradley's offense, which has been formulated from college level schemes. While I understand some of the "concerns" given about his height, weight and arm strength, I think his football IQ, pocket presence, intelligence, character, speed, allusiveness, accuracy, toughness, leadership and what he has proven on the field is more than enough for some D1 level school to take a calculated risk on him. He simply is a WINNER. Keep in mind that all these records he has broken came in just 2 seasons as the starting QB, most of those records are generally held by guys who started for 3-4 years. Somebody is going to get a "steal" when they sign him IMHO.
  6. Absolutely and without a doubt. He really wants to go D1 if at all possible. But if not, he will evaluate all his options.
  7. Thanks. Most likely it will be a year or two before our Jr. ROTC cadets become full blown WARRIORS again. Good luck in 2013. I'll be watching and supporting your team as well. (Especially when you play LOUDON, ha.)
  8. PCP: I doubt CDD would want to leave, unless of course those bad storms keep rolling through his farm. He seems real happy to be coaching and representing Polk County. By the way, thanks for your support throughout our playoff run. It was much appreciated
  9. Thanks for asking . Actually, he's been playing injured since the first Alcoa game. Tough kid. Somebody at the high level of D2 or even D1 should jump on him. I just learned that not only did D.Howell set the national receiving record, but C.High set the national career completion % at 74% (you have to have so many career passes to qualify I believe).
  10. After some quick re-ciphering I think their record, minus the Alcoa wins & loses is 45-2. But overall their record is 48-7. (10-2, 11-2, 13-2, 14-1...with 5 losses to Alcoa & 3 wins over Alcoa)
  11. At CAK we got a very nice ring from Josten's last year for around $250. We had the Senior players design it on Josten's website. Not sure what this years ring will cost, I haven't heard. Parents paid for them. Congratulations by the way on your championship!
  12. Thanks, thats very kind of you to say, especially from a supporter of one of the most successful programs in TN. Back2Back state championships is certainly something that is difficult to achieve no doubt. Especially difficult when you are in the same district and same side of the playoff bracket as Alcoa. But we have truly been blessed with a great deal of success on the field over the past 4-5 years and especially so over the past 2 years. Hopefully we have been worthy champions in the way our coaches, players and fans have conducted themselves. Nobody's perfect, but we are trying to do things the right way. Since you mentioned the Seniors I looked up their record. This group went 48-7 over their 4 years at CAK and won 2 state championships. (They were 45-2 against teams other than Alcoa). Not bad. Thanks again for your kind words.
  13. Great! If C-Reb has a chopper, then maybe he can help us get that heli-port project finished that me & GVK have been screaming about. Coach Farr hasn't been too happy with us for landing on his pristine baseball cathedral lately. But if puny & C-Reb Jr. have baseball skills too, I think he will get happy, happy, happy very quickly. Thanks again for your kind words. CAK is definitely worth checking out academically, spiritually and athletically. Just be sure to contact admissions first
  14. I just now read the article after you made me aware of it in your post. He hasn't stated anything that hasn't been written or said before, nothing new here. I've been somewhat desensitized to all of this "private school" bashing. But since you asked I will reply. (FYI: I attended public schools and coached public school kids). This topic doesn't come up when the private school is going 0-10, only when we are winning. Having a designated zone, like the publics have, guarantees you a pool of potential players. Privates have no guarantees. Publics talk about playing with the guys that get off the bus, well, the privates have to play with the ones whose parents can come up with $$$$$ annual tuition plus continue to pay taxes that pay for that bus the publics are riding on. That's a very limited pool, especially in this economy. The advantage of privates being able to take kids from anywhere is diluted by (1) the highest multiplier in the nation @1.8, (2) the "No Child Left Behind" law that allows kids in metro areas to transfer from school to school outside of their zone if the school they are zoned for isn't meeting standards, which are a lot of them, (3) bogus "Educational Custodianships" that put star athletes miraculously in public schools they aren't zoned for. And (4) open zoned publics having the same advantage to take students outside of their designated zone as privates but without the 1.8 multiplier. My point is that in many ways, publics have advantages over the D1 complying privates. But I understand that there are always going to be people who feel like this writer, I'm just not one of them. Betsy has app. 778 students, CAK has app. 427 Maybe he is right, there isn't a level playing field.
  15. Well... now we're talking. While Stars has Nellie Belle out in the barn up on blocks, I'll get GVK to get the helicopter out of the hanger and we'll take a quick trip down to Sweetwater. We should be able to put her down right in CountryReb's backyard. If they don't like flying then we can send the stretch Hummer limo. I've been wanting to take it off-roading for awhile now and it sounds like CR has just the place to do it. I'll be sure to get you that finders fee if everything works out...a meeting with the mayor and a years supply of nanner puddin.
  16. Thanks CR. We have been blessed with some very good athletes and coaches. Wasn't sure if we would ever get past that Alcoa hurdle, but once we did things have gone well. Nothing but respect back to the Rebel Nation.
  17. Congrats on the new "puppy" LITTLEPURPLEMACHINE will be screaming "Go Dawgs" in no time. Hope all are healthy and happy.
  18. I get his point. Alcoa had a terrific team this year and the 2 games between these schools were classic. Heck, the last 4-5 games between these 2 have been classics. But of course this is just a mythical debate. I trust that JL6 will concede, however reluctantly, that CAK is #1 as proven on the field. Because of our victory over Alcoa we played 2 more games than the Tornadoes did this season. Despite my belief that Alcoa would have won those games, its possible they could have lost. The only team to prove they are #1 is the team with the Gold Ball that says 2012 and that's CAK. Back2back. Despite the flaws in power polls, such as having teams that won the head to head meeting being listed behind or equal to the team they beat, not any of the final power polls have Alcoa listed alongside CAK. They all have CAK #1. But hey Jack, whatever.
  19. That is very true. Thats why I said it only "dilutes" the argument, not dismisses the argument entirely. If Maryville had of come out after the kick off and kept WH bottled in on their side of the 50 then it would have put even more emphasis on the blown call IMHO. It was a bad call by an official that certainly had impact on the final outcome, and no one ever wants to see that happen. Us fans are allowed to debate this stuff openly, but I'm sure happy to see GQ and staff, along with the boys, take such a classy approach to addressing this, at least publicly. Just another example of what makes GQ and Maryville football what it is. If I were still coaching I would be sure to have that play in my playbook from this day forward. Congratulations again on a terrific season
  20. Thanks for this congrats as well as the other supportive posts you have made on behalf of the Warriors. This year was a struggle in a variety of ways and I know the players and coaches are exhausted! I would agree that Rusty is one of the best offensive minded coaches I have ever seen. It remains to be seen if he will continue to coach at CAK or move on. Regardless, he sure has accomplished a lot at CAK in a short period of time. Sorry about your Rebs, but what a classy program. I was pulling for you guys and thought GQ had pulled it out, but things happen. I'm sure you will be back there next year.
  21. I will definitely defer to you on the evaluation of this years freshmen and the MS. Certainly not my area of expertise since I haven't been around those guys or been able to watch them play enough to have a good assessment. The State Title assertion is certainly a bold one, but I will be there to watch it if that happens (good Lord willing).
  22. I wouldn't read too much into the blowho's on the News Sentinel message board. They rail on us (CAK) constantly as well and we're in Knox County. Even on the non-sports threads there are constantly a bunch of the same posters spewing a bunch of nonsense. The vast majority of the area's high school football faithful have nothing but respect for the Maryville program. Sure, who wouldn't want to beat Maryville or Alcoa? You got to beat the best to be the best. I've got nothing but RESPECT for the Rebels. However, you Maryville supporters are savvy enough to know that once you did get beat, that if you ever questioned a call you would be scrutinized heavily by many of those outside the Rebel Nation. Its human nature. I for one believe it was a very bad call. It bothered me the most because it negated one of the most brilliant play calls under pressure that I have ever seen. But I certainly don't believe it is the reason Maryville lost. It dilutes the argument just a bit when DaHaven drove the ball the length of the field and should have ended the game in regulation except for some confusion between the players and the coach resulted in time expiring. I understand how the blown call makes it just a bit harder to swallow though. I thought GQ and the players all handled themselves with the class of champions. Congrats again on an incredible season, even when you're down your up compared to most
  23. Love your positive enthusiasm and evaluation However, I don't believe that will translate into the results we are accustom to for next year. Thus, my reference to next year being a rebuilding year. I hope I am proven wrong. But with the schedule and graduation I see this upcoming year being tough.
  24. It depends on your perspective. Compared to the classes we have seen come through CAK the past 3-4 years the upcoming classes have a ways to go to measure up. Like GVK said, we have had some elite level players during this time period with a couple state and national record breakers, and a couple of D1 commitments. But every year I have been surprised how some of the kids have grown and developed. We'll see, but realistically it will be rebuilding year.
  25. There is an organization out of Georgia called Heart Screen for Teens. They will provide Echocardiograms for about $60 for athletes only. That is a fraction of what it normally costs. It requires you to schedule them to come to your school on a weekend. This is a mission service and certainly not a for profit venture. I don't have contact information but I'm sure you can do an internet search and find them. We had them at CAK 2 years ago and I had both of my kids screened. This test will find a lot of potential problems, like wall thickness issues or valve problems, in the heart. There can be false positives with this test just like there are with any test, but the cardiologists at Vanderbilt Hospital review all the screens and determine if further tests should be done.
