  1. Devrin is the real deal. I covered Bearden football in 08 and he was by far the most talented player on the team. He has a knack for avoiding contact and this attribute should help him avoid catastrophic injury.
  2. We talked about doing a show last year on 1180. We were thinking Saturday mornings would be a good spot. Catch up with coaches the morning after and discuss the next week. I think you can get an audience if you promote it through every outlet you can. This site is a good start. Other social networks like Facebook and Twitter can help spread the word too. Good luck.
  3. Yes, I know Coach Kelly and my daughter attended the day camps for three years. Our daughter always enjoyed herself and it helped that we already knew some of the student-athletes working the camp. Some of the parents in our club were not positive about the camp. It's all about personal experience and personal agendas. Thanks for your input. Thanks we will look into the UGA camp.
  4. My daughter recently attended a Women's Soccer camp in Ohio, but we were somewhat disappointed in the competition. Does anyone here have suggestions for a competitive soccer camp for U12 girls? We would like to stay in the southeast.
  5. Merges can be good, but for a parent I like having choices for my child. Clubs like FC Alliance don't serve the entire community, they serve a select few with money and power. Politics reign!!
  6. Coach Slaughter moving along already? Wow!
  7. I can see this happening, a ball game where the last to have the ball wins. Bearden can play some ball. The key will be how healthy is Tanner Fine. Fine is the Bulldogs leading tackler and inspirational leader. He was hurt during the week of the Jeff Co. game and as a result did not play much last Friday. The Dawgs had to lean on some of their sophomores for playing time. I am glad I'll be there covering the game.
  8. Anyone know where I can find a roster with positions, ht, wt and year? Even a depth chart would work. Can't find much online. Thanks.
  9. Coach Taylor said in a postgame interview that Tanner tweaked his knee in practice on Wednesday. He should be okay by Friday.
  10. I don't know much about Soddy Daisy; I hear they have a solid defense. Who do you like in this match up?
  11. The Patriots gave the Bulldogs all they could take. Brook at FB is a load and made a nice run on his TD. Goins did a nice job taking over for Will Darby and he is only a sophomore. The defense is stout with Terrance Stewart anchoring a line that is 100% pure beef. If not for two failed pitches off the veer from Goins to Dakota Wright there is a high probability the Patriots walk away from Bill Young Field with the victory. High props to the Patriots for a hard fought clean battle. BTW, GO BULLDOGS.
  12. Bearden struggled tonight against a Patriot team that had nothing to lose. Anthony Goins, just a soph, played well in place of Will Darby at the QB position. Brook is a bruising back. Bearden capitalized of untimely Jeff Co. turnovers. For most of the game the Patriots huge DL and LBs contained the fabulous sophomore Devrin Young. Final Score 20-13. Next stop, Soddy Daisy in Knoxville next Friday.
  13. Yes I agree, Forrest is a key to the Bulldogs play this year. Honestly I could name about 25 players that have been key to Bearden having a strong season after losing so many to graduation. Coach Taylor has done a good job developing team chemistry.
  14. Yes, Bearden has a strong sophomore class, highlighted by Devrin Young, Stefon Stephens, Peyton Landers, and Drew Williamson.

  16. I agree with your assessment as his game has improved each week. He is tenacious. He and Tanner compete for tackles as you wrote in a recent article.
  17. I guess your referring to Tanner Fine. He will not be easy to replace. They do lose more than one senior of defense. LB and backup RB, Brandon Sapp is a senior. On offense they will lose to graduation starters, OL Travis Roberson, WR Will Campbell, and QB Ryan Potter. Also graduating is one of the states most consistent kicker/punter Brandon Reagan. With all that said this team will be thick with returning starters and a strong sophomore turning junior class. All the changes in the structure of the TSSAA should create an interesting season in 2009.
  18. I agree with the distraction part, as we have witnessed the Bulldogs beat Science Hill on Homecoming, the Cougars on Homecoming and Da Bears on Senior Night. I am sure Coach Taylor will have his young team prepared.
  19. 10/31 is what I have read. This is according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. Only a few teams are playing on Thursday.
  20. Bearden by 17 as the Bulldogs celebrate Senior Night. For those fans that cannot attend, please tune into www.1180ESPN.com for coverage of Bearden High School football. Devrin found his top end gear on Friday. He slipped in the rain early, but managed to find his stride. What a treat he has been to watch all year long. If Wilker continues to improve his technique, he has the body to play college ball at a high level.
  21. What a crazy game. First half was 23-20 with the Bears in the lead. Bearden made plenty of mistakes. Second half was a different story as Bearden and Devrin Young poured it on. 5 TD for Young and over 200 yards on the ground for the game and throw in a 73 yard catch and run. The Bulldogs have been a spolier of sorts; beating Science Hill on their Homecoming, beating Campbell Co. on their Homecoming and defeating Sevier Co on Senior Night. BTW Zach Flynn and Patrick Miller are two talented players. Good luck to the Bears next week.
  22. SCHS2008, thank you for the reply. Sounds like the game on Friday should be a good matchup. Do these starting lineups look accurate? 23. What type of offense do the Bears run? Who are some of the key players?
  24. What type of offense do the Patriots and Bears tend to run?
  25. What a struggle for the Bulldogs. The Cougars won the statistical categories, more first downs, more rushing yards, time of possession, but the Dawgs made some key plays. Three Homecoming Ws for the Dawgs in a row. Campbell Co. played a solid game but just could not pull out a clutch score at the end. BTW, the officiating and game management by the officials was horrible. TSSAA should not be proud of the crew working at L. Hope Dossett Stadium this evening.
