  1. Child please....... ACTUALLY...if you want to know how things work in football....when two officials have a difference of opinion on the call, all officials meet and DISCUSS what they actually saw and how they saw the play play out. Then, the referee makes the appropriate call. Coach Wheeler had EVERY right to pull the ref to the side and discuss the call. But at NO time is it ever acceptable for him to walk nearly 20 yards down field, and out PAST the hash mark to yell and throw a fit at an official. I am disturbed at the fact some of you Covington fans think that these actions are acceptable! It must be because the only ones posting are the little high school kids who obviously don't know how to show respect....we learned Friday that that is something not taught in Covington schools. And I can assure you that none of our fans were laughing or snickering at the sight of a hurt child!
  2. First, let me start by saying, I never dissed the coaching ability of Covington's HC. He and his staff may very well be awesome. But let's graduate some players and see if they can come back with another winning season....because THAT determines a good HC and coaching staff! And THAT is something Milan proves year in and year out! As for their HCs reactions, in no way, at no time is getting an unsportmanlike penalty from a coach acceptable. END OF STORY!!!! Like I said in a previous post, I have NEVER seen Milan's police department have to get involved in a game because of the other teams coaches. He may have been standing up for his kids, but that was the WRONG way to do it. He pulled focus to himself, not the kids or the game, and yes I STILL say he got a break because he should have been escorted off the field! doesn't mean he's a bad guy....he just use poor judgement in that instance. Now for Covington, it's time to move on and stop dwelling. We will see you next year, week 8, in Covington for a rematch. I hope it's as good of a game as this one was! Good luck in the playoffs!
  3. Awe you gave it away too fast!!! I was gonna get us some good $$$$ for a coaching staff as good as theirs!!!!! Apparently, according to the softball fan, ours isn't very good..... :roflol:
  4. Sorry my iPad doesn't meet your spelling expectations......submit that grievance with the late Mr. Jobs! Luckily, this is a thread about football...which is something I know a little about! And I'll tell ya what Sparky.....if Milan has to play at Covington's house during the playoffs....I'll give you $1000 cash money! If they don't...you pay me $1000!!! You should really stick to softball!
  5. The game was decided when Milan's defense put your RB down at the two yard line. And the Covington kid did like he was supposed to...never give up! But if you're down, you don't get the points. The line judge obviously just saw the ball over the goal line....because that is what he looks for, and no other official had blown it dead yet. Watch some football...controversy happens alot! But the reaction from Covington's coaching staff was utterly appalling! To get in a verbal, almost physical altercation in FRONT of your kids with a ref! Nice example he's setting! I've seen Jeff Morris angry before, but NEVER has he shown the lack of class that Covington's coaching staff showed last night! To have to be restrained by the security staff....rediculous! And I hope he's in his AD's office Monday morning because he owes an apology to his kids, parents, fans and MILAN! And he should have been thrown off the field for his actions! I know the official may have said/done something inappropriate as well...but at the end of the day he was the official. What would that coach do if one of his captions started pitching a fit like he did....I'd ventur to guess, that captain wouldn't be on the team anymore. It's about respect for authority....and even though we don't always like TSSAA officials authority...we have to respect it! Good job dawgs.....keep fightin'! It's a tough year for you guys, but y'all come out week after week and give it your all!!! Well....for the most part! Lol jk Love my Dawgs!!!
  6. Incorrect...Milan was 9-1 at the end the of regular season last year. And I thought Milan was seeded 2nd but I honestly don't remember 100%. And GoVolsKnox, I'm not sure if your statement was directed at Milan or in general, but Milan is only playing 3 out of district games this year....and all 3 are huge long running traditional rivalries in west Tennessee and the entire state. Hearing about Milan having an easy schedule is getting to be as annoying as hearing about the open districts at Alcoa! Milan can't help their schedule....with a district as large as they are in, all you play is district games! Luckily they have split it to east and west, so that teams and schools can keep some of their long running rivalries going! And honestly, those 3 games, aside from the Trenton game, have given Milan their best games of the season! (Assuming that the game Friday vs. Huntingdon is going to be a good one....I'm sure I'm not gonna be wrong on that one!) So maybe that's what TSSAA keeps in mind...because they sure aren't letting our district get away with a winning season outside of district play!
  7. You're pretty much an idiot but we'll forgive you.....you're hatin on cotton pickers?? Last time I drove to Huntingdon, I passed SEVERAL cotton fields, balers, and bales of cotton in between Mackley and Huntingdon....last time I checked that's all in Carroll County, so you gave yourself away as not being from Huntingdon OR West Tennessee on that one.... Now on to the game...it's gonna be a barn burner for sure!!! Milan has got to be on their 'A' game or they may not pull this one out! Now if the game was in Huntingdon, I'd give the edge to the 'Stangs to pull out an upset. But everyone knows it's TOUGH to come to Johnnie Hale and beat the Dawgs at the Pound!!! So I'm gonna say Milan by 7-10! GO DAWGS!!!!!!
  8. Ugh Milan looked like crap tonight! Glad they managed to pull it out at the end! Thanks to our defense....cause offense looked like a chicken with their heads cut off! And I don't know what the Martin fans are cryin about, but if it wasn't for #36....it would have been a TOTALLY different ballgame! That kid ran and got several first downs keeping Westview in the game! Good job qb! Time to get ready for Huntingdon next Friday! Hope the dawgs look better next week....or we may be in TROUBLE! LoL
  9. Milan fans have been quiet this year! How's this Friday lookin' for the Dawgs??
  10. Game day! Hope for an injury free game, as this game is a heated subject in Gibson County this week!! Hope everyone controls their tempers and keeps their sportsmanship towards God!! With that being said................. GO DAWGS!!!!
  11. Just a few words from the all knowing BullDawgGirl: SG is still young....both players and fans. I love how on many other social media sites, SG fans have started many threads/topics on how badly they are gonna beat Milan. Then when the (yes I'll admit it) mouthy Milan fans start talkin trash back, they change their tune to 'oh it's just a game....how dare you talk so much smack....SG is in it's first year....blah blah blah!". SG....If you can't run with the big Dawgs....STAY ON THE PORCH!!! Smack talkin is just a part of West Tennessee...or well TENNESSEE football! Open any thread here and someone is gonna be talk in $#*+! You guys are having an awesome 1st year varsity season....and I commend the players and coaches for all their hard work! So grow some tougher skin, and get a few seasons under your belt, and then come talk your smack. You gotta build your traditions before anyone from any team is gonna let you talk about how you're gonna 'run all over them'....especially a powerhouse like Milan! Just remember....Milan's 2011 motto.......TRADITION NEVER GRADUATES! Set your tradition SGCHS!!! As for the game....first quarter will be a good one...cause Milan generally looks like some chickens with their heads cut off in the first quarter until they get their rythmn going! I say Mercy rule early in the 3rd quarter.....SG's 'fans' will thin out in the 3rd as well....the true fans will be there til the end! I'll say 42-13 final... Good luck to both teams players and coaches.....hope for injury free game.....play proud for all 4 quarters! And for the fans...let's all have some class and dignity and sportsmanship! See y'all in MedineR Friday night!!! . BDG out!!
  12. So I heard this past week that parents of kids @ Westview and Dresden HS's got letters stating that if the schools are below the state's threshold of drop-out rates and test scores, and they have two years to get these in compliance or the schools will be closed. They have also offered free transportation to any student wanting to transfer to Greenfield or Gleason. Do you think that this is gonna have any impact with things this year? Coaches and parents making players focus more on school work than practice? What's the talk inside the Westview faithful?
  13. On June 16, the Milan Bulldog community was shocked and saddened by the tragic murder of one of the biggest supporters and fans of Milan! Mr. Charlie Reagan, owner of Supreme Muffler shop, and marathon runner who ran the big 'M' flag at every football game was murdered in his shop. Please keep his wife of 30 years, Trenia, and 3 daughters, family, friends, and the Bulldogs in your thoughts and prayers. I know people around Milan will have heard the news, but since we are all passionate about our respective teams, I thought the word should spread and his memory live on. I have heard that his middle daughter, who is going to be a senior this year I believe, is planning to run the flag the first football game in his memory. 14. Milan does not have tuition, and I never said Milan doesn't accept any out of district students. According to "No child left behind" they are required by law to accept minority students who are moving from a district where their race is a majority, and their race is a minority in MSSD. Open means ANY student can apply there and attend if space if avaliable. NOT the case with Milan. If you don't meet the criteria set, then your application is n/a. If there were grey areas, Milan would be semi-open...I'll give you that. But it is NOT completely open. If it were, my cousin could have attend Milan. But since she resides in the Bradford district, is not a minority student, was not enrolled prior to 2004-2005, and does not have any siblings that attended MSSD prior to 2004-2005 then she was denied entry into MSSD. If you'd all like, I'll dig around in some papers this weekend and post the letter her parents got in the mail. As for the reason behind forfeiting, it was because the students family was building a house in Milan but hadn't completed it prior to school starting. They rented a house, and used that address as their residency when actually they lived in Jackson. Milan SSD was fined $500, (since it was someone in Jackson that reported it, Milan recieved the maximum penalty) and forced to forfeit the games that the student played in which was 5. If Milan was an open district, he could have simply attended Milan from Jackson, no problems.
  15. According to the Tennessee Board of Education, Milan has closed zoning, not matter how anyone else wants to smother, cover, chunk, slice, dice, step on, puree or whine about it. As for the QB, nope residency was only an issue to bystanders. Mom and dad are divorced, he moved in with his dad when he was in high school. Far as I know, still lives there. There was another player (I think it was back in '05, but I could be wrong) his residency caused Milan to forfeit 5 games. Why....because HE WASN'T LIVING IN MILAN'S DISTRICT!!! If Milan was open, it wouldn't have been an issue. And to you APB..... Brick Wall, meet Alcoa's Painted Bridge.....you shall have LOADS to talk about! I shall miss our "discussions"..... <3 "Sweetheart"
  16. See you are only reading the first HALF of the policy!!! We have already said that SOME out of district students are allowed to attend MSSD when room is available. (Which for those of you not familiar with Milan, Milan has been "overcrowded" since the mid 90's.) However if you were to go and read the ENTIRE policy APB, Policy 6.2041, you would see the RESTRICTIONS that must be met even BEFORE you can apply as an out of district student. And again, you have not shown ANYWHERE where it says that ANY student can attend MSSD, thus classifying Milan as CLOSED. Now for you, BC, funny part....it was an ALCOA fan who started naming specific schools. Not one post in this thread has denied Alcoa's greatness. However, somehow all you Alcoa fans twist and turn a simple timeless question of fairness into something all about you! I'm not nieve enough to think that the TSSAA is gonna run and change rules simply because of this thread, but isn't that where a thread is...somewhere a group of people can come and discuss issues? Well it was...until Alcoa fans had to come in and turn it into a "Wah...everyone hates us because we win...." fest!
  17. Excuse my 'out of turn' post APB, but BD1 and I have both asked you to be specific in which of Milans policy numbers and item numbers you see as 'open zone'. Since today is 'your' day...please respond. And for those still asking why most people are focusing on Alcoa, please refer to post #2 when APB started calling out specific programs. And the others asking why we aren't focusing on other sports...well 'cause this is the FOOTBALL thread.
  18. APB still hasn't answered my question as to why Milan is an "open zone" school. But let's fancy his fantasy world that Milan pulls 'all' the 'good' football players from Gibson Co. with the understanding that Alcoa is truly an open zone and does pull good football players from Blount Co. The question was raised on how many of our other schools in the county were dominate or state champions. Gibson Co. has approximately 50,000 (approximately 8350 under 18) residents to Blount Co.s 123,000(approximately 27,183 under 18)! Now back to reality where Milan IS closed (despite APBs desperate attempts to prove otherwise) and Alcoa IS open and has a MUCH larger pool to appeal to. Logically that's why there are more competitive schools, because you have a larger area! There is no way anyone can make a logical argument that an open zone (especially in highly populated areas) doesn't have an advantage against a closed zone school.
  19. Generally, I try to stay away from this topic, however because of some of the replies, I felt I needed to throw my 2 Abe's in the mix. First off....Milan's "open" zone. Before the 2004-2005 school year, all Gibson County schools (Milan, Bradford, Trenton, Gibson Co, Humboldt) were open zones. I myself was a 'tuition' student. I lived in the Bradford district, but attended Milan schools because of a A.) my parents worked in Milan, but mainly because B.) my brother is handicap and the "Special Ed" classroom at Bradford at that time was literally two partition walls in the back corner of a Kindergarten classroom with gym mats on the floor for "therapy". This did not satisfy my parents, nor my brothers needs, so we attended Milan. Because my brother had been enrolled in MSSD in 1989 when he was 2 (into the special education program), he was "grandfathered in" and allowed to continue through the Milan program until he graduated in 2008. All CURRENT students enrolled in MSSD before the 2004-2005 school year were considered "grandfathered" in, with their siblings having the option to enroll as well. This doesn't mean that Milan is an "OPEN" zone. If you were to move to Gibson Co. right now, you would HAVE to attend the school in which your house is zoned. The only exceptions to this rule are the children of teachers, not staff....TEACHERS, and a case where a child is moving from a district where his race is the majority, to a school where his race is a minorty. An example of this would be an African American student from the Humboldt district choosing to attend Milan, or a Caucasian student choosing to attend Humboldt. However, given as much history and pride all around Gibson Co. I can assure you this doesn't happen very often! No where in Milan's policy does it say that ANY child in the area can attend Milan, unlike Alcoa for instance. Perfect example would be from a few years ago when a family was building a house in the Milan area, moving from Jackson. It wasn't to be finished until late fall, but they wanted to move the kids to Milan in advance so they could get involved in sports. So they rented a house in Milan, paid electric bills and water. But they didn't live in the house. When TSSAA found out about this, Milan was made to forfeit their first 5 wins of the season. This should be example enough for anyone that Milan does NOT have open zones. Next, on the the multiplier question. Just a few stats to throw out there....Because I did my homework like APB asked.... Students: M: 2085 / A: 1632 Economically Disadvantaged Student: M: 1202 @ 56.8% / A: 777 @ 49.7% Title 1 students: (these are students that are considered to be living in poverty by national standards) M: 848 @ 39.1% / A: 44 @ 2.6% Expenditures: State, both $8,518 per pupil System, M: $7,621 / A: $10,168 That's my homework, now for my questions. When Milan has over half it's students economically disadvantaged, and an alarming 39% of it's students living in poverty, can it be fair for those kids to be ranked in the same classifications as kids who has the funds to pay $98,800(Goodpasture) and $104,000(CAK) for a K-12 educations? That means that there is OBVIOUSLY more funding going into their athletics, wether it be at the high school level, or probably in most cases teams at a much younger age. (I suspect, that if a family has the funds to pay for private schooling, they probably also have funds for private lessons or coaches when they are younger) I'm not complaining, because what that means is Milan has TRUE talent! Despite all the odds against us we are still at the top of the State year after year. But maybe now some of y'all can get a visual of what Milan builds from when we say "we take whatever gets off the big yellow bus."
  20. APB please outline a specific area where you can transfer IN to Milan from another district? Please be specific because apparently you're reading a different policy than I.
  21. I was speaking collectively for Milan fans. Me...I'm the one in the stands saying, "He's Jeff Morris...he's not gonna run anything different b/c this works 90% of the time!" lol Tucker played smash mouth football....Morris plays smash mouth football...and Milan has been successful for MANY years playing smash mouth football!!!!
  22. I'll be sure to mix some ginkgo biloba in that punkin' pie for ya DANR! Help in serving that memory correctly! haha
  23. All I read all week, and for years past, is how cocky and arrogant Milan's fans and players are. We try to explain, it's not cocky...it's confident in our town, coaches, and more importantly, players! We at Milan know that 9 out of 10 calls are going to be...let's say it together Milan faithful...."UP THE MIDDLE!" and 8 of those 9 times, we're likely to yell, "CALL SOMETHING ELSE COACH!" However, Jeff Morris is one of the most successful coaches in the state of Tennessee. And in a "rebuilding" year, when he lost ALL 11 offensive starters, he is back in the semi's with a great chance to be in the championship again! We may not like all the calls....but we're confident in our coaching staff that they are going to do the BEST with the players THIS year and take them as far as possible. That's TRADITION! Camden, you need to hold your heads high....you had a great season. But turning on your coaches isn't going to keep this great tradition going. Enjoy the next two weeks, go and cheer for the team of your choice, I kinda hope it's Milan but I wouldn't have any hard feelings if I see some black and gold on GP's stands next Friday, and hit it hard in the weight room and meet us back in round 3 next year!!! Quick PS...does anyone know if the rumors of Milan's field house being vandalized by grafatti are true?
  24. Becoming sorta of a tradition for Bulldawg fans to have a little Cougar and Dressin' for Thanksgiving! Milan 17 GP 10 GO DAWGS!!!!!
  25. I agree that TSSAA needs to take action, but us out here in West TN are use to this. This is how EVERY Memphis band is. They may only bring 10 fans, but most of the time they are going to have a Tuba/Low Brass and Percussion ensemble to be with them. We have complained for YEARS to no resolve. So while I say yes go ahead and try, I can promise you that just because it was Maryville on the other side, that's not going to mean much. I don't mean to sound harsh or mean, but just because it's an East TN team playing a Memphis team, that's not gonna mean much. And if it does, that's crap because all us West TN teams that have to play the Memphis teams have complained for YEARS!
