I think it is interesting how many opinions there are as to whom will be good or why D-B hasn't won it all and yet those who want to down D-B for having won the state titles they have won as somehow the titles aren't legit because they were chosen by the opinions of the voters...???...opinions are like something else that everyone has - it is an old saying... D-B hasn't won, because they were beaten and or lost - outcoached, outplayed, outprepared, weathered...whatever...in that given game...a play brokedown...a bad play was called...an official blew a call...a pass was dropped...a tackle missed... a turnover happened because an opponent made a play...a monsoon hit...but regardless, the Indians were there...and South and Science Hill fans, they were still beating your team...and Knoxville area teams - Bearden, Karns, South-Doyle, Blount, Heritage, Mo East, Jeff County, Sevier County, and all the other Big East Conference teams - D-B has a winning record against you, as well...and Oak Ridge, D-B has a Coach Clark winning record against you, too...but no state title...the Tribe have an even record against MBA, winning record against Red Bank...and everybody else they have played... regular season opponents don't matter in the playoffs...it comes down to that game and a variety of issues decide a game...but again, for the Indians there is a proven track record of being in the playoffs... and just to add to the mix - in basketball D-B has the most state tournament appearances, wins, and losses...nope, no state titles...but a real chance virtually every year...everyone says that; D-B lives it...and earns it...in all sports Roll Tribe Roll

Jerry Adams died Saturday May 30th... Jerry played basketball at D-B for Coach Van Huss...graduating from D-B in 1975...he played basketball and graduated from Tennessee Temple University...He was head coach at Volunteer High School and was a long time assistant @ Dobyns-Bennett working with Coach Van Huss, Coach Shipley, and Coach Daniels...he was an outstanding high school teacher...he was a truly great, hard working man...he was a wonderful example to everyone that knew him as a husband, father and friend... Over the past couple/few years Volunteer had a couple of players who did things they shouldn't have on the basketball floor...some of the antics were merely classless and some where quite dangerous...we can go back through specific games and I will point them out...but as I have said before, I do not think Coach Whittamore condones the bad behavior and I am sure he doesn't promote it...I believe Coach Whittamore wants his team to play hard and to be physical, so does Coach Witcher, Coach Morgan, Coach Dyer, Coach Cutlip and all the other coaches in the Big 9...I have on many occasions pointed out Jared Mann, a very good post player at Volunteer, who would be called a physical player, but not a dirty player...he was fun to watch and a very solid competitor...the way he played, I believe to be the way Coach Whittamore taught...and I don't want to put names on here of the players that I think tarnished to reputation of the Falcons, but I think the deal on Friday wasn't due to bad kids (and I don't know the kids except to watch them play), but was rather a grouping of bad decisions and bad behavior that rightfully should be punished...and it is all too often that the second offender is the one most noticed... how about we just play ball and calm down all the screaming and finger pointing...kids are playing games, supposedly for the enjoyment of the competition; it is high time we get back to a finesse game and stop playing tackle basketball...officials are another story...we have some outstanding ones calling in Northeast Tennessee and we have some that need a lot more training...I do agree that there needs to be better training and accountablity...one suggestion I have is that everyone who thinks the refs are so bad, go take the test and get into the system and become one... and if that sounds like I am taking up for somebody or anybody, well so be it...make the people who do stupid things accountable...but don't attempt to make everyone wearing the same uniform guilty by association... tricitiessportsfan, okay, so you have hurt my feelings...but, please remember that in regard to medical conditions, coaches and other official school personel have to be very careful with what they say due to the HIPPA laws...for that reason, C-MO was not questioned by all the media about the potential injury...but did talk directly to Sly, privately... Y'all should have listened to the Indian Pow-Wow Talking Dobyns-Bennett Football with Graham Clark last night on WGOC from the Sagebrush Restaurant(6:30-7:30pm)...Coach Clark talked about the schedule and where he was in trying to obtain and schedule opponents...D-B is going to play Sevier County (I think he said week 3), but still has two weeks to try to schedule (0 & 1)...D-B will have home conference games against Boone, Crockett, and Volunteer (can't you just hear those turnstiles hum?...)...the Indians will be on the road for conference tilts with Tennessee High, Central, South, and Science Hill...did not have the weeks the games were scheduled...had one other school willing and wanting to play, but didn't have signed paperwork, so he didn't disclose the school on air...he said Jeff County is full, Bearden wasn't interested...the conference meeting wasn't complete, as Central had the appeal in front of the TSSAA board (which was denied)... Volman, I believe there was 1:41 remaining in the game when D-B took over...the "Hill" was out of timeouts...Canepa is a running back and was not Steele's man or in Steele's immediate area of coverage on the play, Steele reacted to the eyes of the QB (Kinley) reacted and broke to the ball...due to the flight of the ball, he had time to get there and make the play...
