  1. I like that idea...we could also have a 3rd place game if teams were intersted...the champions would have to be seeded fairly...maybe through random drawing or something like that..that way the privates dont always play the 3a every year and the 1a and 2a dont always play.
  2. 2 privates...now that would be intersting Lets go with 4 classifications... so those little 1A girls who keep crying foul can not walk away scott free... It would be intersting to see Goodpasture, Lipscomb, USJ, CPA, Ezell, Boyd and the other privates go up against the Super 7, and D2-AA.
  3. I think a multiplier or a split is the best... Problem with the split is coaches will still complain...USJ CPA Ezell and other teams will still beat a lot of 2A teams...and they will cry foul, with obvious reason. There is no perfect way, I don't hear people from Memphis talk about how bad it is to play the privates, cus we dont have 1a football public or private schools...I think we could if we wanted to, but teams play up in basketball and it just makes it easier to schedule. In basketball the Memphis teams would destroy the 1A teams...no doubt in my mind, I will argue that to the death, many teams choose to play up instead of playing 1A or 2A in basketball...they would beat the private schools in basketbal and it wouldn't even matter one bit...Baseball golf wrestling and football I must give the advantage to private schools.
  4. You are definitely correct, both players are great and disrupt what is going on...I guess the East kid gets alittle more press because his team is just great...the East team speed is amazing this year...I talked to some guys for CBHS..who lost to them this summer 64-7...a friend said he thought East might have had over 1000 yards of offense in that game...I don't know about that, but still, both teams are great...JCM's defense is the real deal.
  5. I think the best linebacker in TN is the guy over at Memphis East...I talked to some friends that said he ran a legit 4'4 if not 4'5...hes a man child.
  6. It would be odd if Memphis was able to claim championships in... Softball..St. Benedict Baseball...CBHS Baseball...Germantown or Houston Soccer...CBHS, MUS I wonder if people would call excuse the pun "foul"
  7. Goodmark for you Bravos... I have been to East TN..and memphis is very different...but not in a bad way, its just different...if you say there is nothing to do in Memphis and you are from anywhere besides Nashville you have a few screws lose.
  8. Look at the post I made right before you responded, I said it moves pretty fast.
  9. Traffic isn't bad at all, even poplar moves pretty fast around 430. And I have lived here for 18 years.
  10. Side Porch is better than Butcher shop...less money too, but you get a lot of food. Ruth Chris is the best, but it takes about 2 hours before you are finally done (they want you to sit down and have some drinks etc.)
  11. Parking downtown is for the most part free or cheap. You can park on Front, Second, Third, or Lindon for free... Especially at night, you can park in one of the Catholic churches down there in their parking lot, I'm not going to see its the most secured parking, but it beats the heck out of paying 10 dollars... If you park at Peabody Place, and go downtown to eat, get your ticket comped, and then it is free to. I eat at many upscale restaurants in Shelby County...some of the best are Paulettes, Jim's Place East, Jarrett's, and Ruth Chris' Steakhouse...all are around 35 or 37 dollars for one...but well worth it.
  12. CoachT and Opperman Have any of you guy's ever heard of Gus' World Famous Fried Chicken? Opperman it was out over there way past Covington...look on the internet, it was rated the 9th best restaurant in the WORLD! Unfortunately it burned down about a year ago, but there is still a Gus' in downtown Memphis...look it up on the internet if yall dont believe me...haha it's like 3 or 4 french restaurants and then some Italian restaurants...and then Gus'...The old restaurant was about the size of a trailor, and it didn't have anything over 4.35 (3 piece dark, slaw, and bread)...that's the best secret there is... CoachT...Butcher shop is good, but Opperman might agree that The Side Porch on Stage is well worth it as well.
  13. Good list on the things to do in Memphis...I don't think these people realize how big Memphis in May really is...there is so much music for the kids its amazing, or the southern barbeque festival...these people are so negative and dont realize that the other 99% of the teams that aren't going to state would gladly fill their place. As I stated earlier, there are many kids whose lives are cut short because of injuries who never get to experience a state tournament, yet people get on here and complain about things that are still 11months in advance, might not even include their team, and have never even been to Memphis at all. Parking is not 10 dollars, you can go to peabody place and watch a movie at muvico and park free for 3 hours, in fact movies are only 4 dollars I think on fridays, and Beale Street is now world famous (or that is what they say)...there is more things to do in Memphis then there is to do in Chattanooga, I have been to Chatt, and I am about to stay there for the upcoming school year, so I think I would know...I'm sorry you people have to spend another 2 or 3 hours in the car...while everyone else who didn't make it has to stay at home reviewing old tapes and wondering what if...man you guys got it really tough, I don't know how you do it.
  14. I live in Memphis, and I do not like to see a city made fun of by individuals who have never been to the city. As I said earlier there were some comments that involved CBHS' field...I live about a quarter of a mile from there, and as I said earlier the houses are in the 500K-3 million dollar range, yet people disrespect them...thats some of the dumbest comments I have ever heard. I would love to attend, but I have the UT knoxville orientation this weekend, thank you for the offer.
  15. What I find funny, is most of you people must never have had kids that played AAU baseball or basketball... All it is, is travel. You don't see people complaining about where the nationals are...Most of the time they are in Dallas, this year I think they are in Lebannon, which is great for my team, but we honestly don't care...When you get used to traveling and playing competively, then it doesn't matter who or where you play...Like someone said earlier, who cares where its at. Memphis was able to host the Tyson/Lewis fight with few problems, Memphis in May (probably around 250,000 people in 7 or 8 days went to that), an NBA team, AFL2, CHL, 2 soccer teams, AAA team, XFL...I'm sorry you guys are used to having your cake and eating it too, but thats not how life is...I'm not going to say Memphis was the best choice, I would have liked Nashville more, but who cares...I mean 30 years from now, will it really matter where it is played at? Some of you people that might have played baseball or other sports 20 years ago, probably would drive to the other end of the state just to relive some of those moments, I know I would. But instead, you choose to go ahead and have a negative mindset about something that is about 11 months away, and might not even involve your team. It is simply amazing the audacity and negativity people on this board have.
  16. When we played in a team in the playoffs we tackled their starting runningback and my friend decided to punch him in the groin...The RB on the ground shot like a cannon up in the air and said some guy just grabbed my _____ the referees didn't know what to do and warned us not to do that again. Then they did a dive and my friend this time did it again...the RB looked around, pointed at me (I happened to be on my knees trying to get up after the tackle, and then the RB kicked me in the chest to the ground). My friend who was the criminal said "Gosh, what were you thinking." In fact, the whole team got on to me because they thought we were going to get penalized, I had to explain to the coaches and the rest of the players, it was my other friend, who later admitted it after a good laugh.
  17. I don't understand the post by Melinda...its hard to make out, too many fragmanets and misspelled words. FP-I agree, I think it should have been in Nashville, but Memphis had the best offer, so if you guys don't like it, do something about it. Build a brand new 2000 seat softball field in your back yard, maybe that might help, generate some local interest in the community, but most importantly, be happy that young men and women can still have a place to play, and still have the ability to play.
  18. I don't see why people are so scared about Memphis...I mean it's not like we are having the games in a prison lot or something. The games are going to be played at Mike Rose Soccer Complex, which is in Collierville, Millington-which is about 40 minute from Memphis, and CBHS which has houses across the street for around 500,000 dollars and up. In fact, Lennix Lewis was going to stay in the house next to me for 10K a night, I doubt he would stay anywhere where he thought safety would be a concern...You people are grown men and you are crying about everything, Did you ever think that Memphians had to drive that same 7 hours, but how many people got on here and complained? Rely off of your own personal experiences, and not what someones brothers sisters little kid brother told your friend.
  19. In response to what there is to do in Memphis There is a zoo that is set to open up at new 12 million dollar exhibit in July. There is also a family park called Libertyland that is similar to Dollywood, but a little bit bigger. There is Graceland, Sunshine studio, always an exhibit at the pyramid, there is this thing called Memphis in May where the entire city celebrates a specific country, that is when they have things such as Musicfest (165,000 people attend for 3 days groups for everyone from country rap alternative), Barbeque festival (teams from all over the world form to try and win), and the Southern food festival. Always fun to go downtown to see the redbirds play (have a stadium that is only 2 years old and very nice), or go to Jillians (restaurant at OpryMills), there is Tunica (casinos for adults, and arcades and shopping for kids and people who dont want to gamble, and huge buffets)..you could also go see memphis' pro soccer teams or arena football teams play. There are many things to do in Memphis, and in alot of ways I am glad they moved it because Chattanooga is just so crowded sometimes.
  20. Hmmm As a Memphian, I am pleased that the spring fling is coming here...I never in my right mind would have driven to Chattanooga to see those games. Tunica is only a 45 minute drive from Memphis, but if they are playing the games at Mike Rose Soccer complex then that is really going to be special...Those fields are really great. The baseball looks to be played at CBHS, which has won national field of the year, USA stadium in Millington, which is also very nice. And Autozone park, where every seat there is a good place, and is actually a very popular place for not only adults but teenagers to attend. It is also right next to Peabody place, which has a Gap, Jillians, AW, Muvico, Ike Hayes, and a few other pretty cool restaurants. It is also right off of Beale Street, so that is somewhat appealing. Wescharge, you always make references to Memphis in bad connotations, but there are other malls that I think would be very appealing, Wolfchase in Cordova, Hickory Ridge, and Oak Court have pleasing aesthetics. It is usually called the Mall of Murder, instead of Murder mall...and for those of you who don't know, the police have basically set up an entire police station right on the mall grounds, but that is no where near Millington, Downtown, or CBHS, so I don't really see what the point is in referring to that.
  21. My brothers team qualified for nationals from Memphis for the 15's and won the YOMCA...they are all the appropriate age...I believe YOMCA's 15's are for the most part correct.
  22. I understand peoples resentment in terms of not wanting to play the private schools, I have never said I didn't blame them for not wanting to play them, but if you are good, you are good and you want to play and beat the best teams...if you get rid of the private schools, won't there still be teams that are goin to dominate...this might be a stupid question, but could a team like Trousdale County come back to 1A? Sorry, I don't even know if they have enough people to do that sort of thing.
  23. What are the requirements to play in this game? Does your coach have to be a member of a certain committee like in basketball? I noticed Tyler McCollough, Austin Bougerous, David Thompson, Bobby Daush, David Ligon, Franklin Payne, Will Denboe You said "There are two different all-star teams and they are selected by the coaches and others who are involved in Tennessee Football." If I am correct you are a 1A coach? Would coaches from Division 2 get the call, or are only public school coaches notified, just a simple question...How many kids are actually from Division 2? I saw some MUS, CBHS, and McCallie...and then a Notre Dame...kinda odd Notre Dame's qb got on the list while leading his team to fifth place out of 8 teams, where is BCS, Harding, ECS, or state champions BGA? What about Bishop Byrne? Out of about 20 teams in D2-A,AA only one is playing... Memphis has more D2 teams then any other region, yet the only people that are on the teams are Folk and Mosby...I'm not going to complain, I think its wonderful that they are having it, good luck to both teams, does anyone know last years score and the series between both regions?
  24. You probably won't get an answer to that VG...I have found that people on here answer what they want to, and seem to somehow miss what they dont want to...I asked the moderators if there was a bias against West TN, never got an answer...the more cut and dry your question...the more they seem to slip through the cracks.
  25. I have a question that I would like for some of you guys who are in 1A to answer... Why do you want the private schools to leave? From a competitve standpoint, I am hoping that Knoxville Catholic and Notre Dame stay in D2-AA and don't think about leaving...D2-AA consists of only 8 teams already, I wouldnt want them to leave, even if that means two less teams that would make it to the playoffs, Especially if 70% of the state champions in the last decade are public...I can't believe that.
