  1. As much as I'd like to respond to these comments individually without the entirety of CoachT knowing I have to do it this way, and I don't want to sound arrogant. What I will say is that Austin Cox is a great wrestler and won the regional championships fair and square last year. I didn't wrestle in the region that year because of an injury I sustained prior to the tournament, but I'm not saying I would have won the tournament just that the bracket would have ended up differently. I wish Austin the best of luck individually this year and have the utmost respect for him both as a wrestler and a person. but it is my opinion that Austin has areas in his wrestling he needs to improve on in order to become the best he can possibly be. And from what I know of Witt and Cox, I believe Witt is the better wrestler and will win the match. As for the gloating, I did that immediately after I won and stopped. and yes, he will be making more noise that I will at state than I will, I'll be several hundred miles away. and now most region 6 coaches and wrestlers will know who I am, as much as I'd like to retain my anonymity.
  2. Sorry, I think that Austin Cox is over-rated. having wrestled him while I was in high school, he isn't that good once you negate what he does best. Witt should beat him just as long as he doesn't let Cox get into a groove. and for full disclosure, I was a wrestler in Region 6 last year and beat Cox last year by a decision.
  3. Everybody has a chance...it's just the odds aren't very good.
  4. in my opinion, Indy is a very good team. And I am from the Nashville area and I have wrestled against Indy in the past, so I know how good they are, but not an accurate representation. I think Indy has a good dual team because they have some good individuals. BUT I don't see them beating BC under any circumstances, unless some of their wrestlers get very, very lucky.
  5. I'll throw my hat in and see how I do. DI AAA Round 1 (1 pt for each correct pick) Bradley Central over Hendersonville Halls over Kingsport Dobyns Bennett Independence over Collierville Soddy Daisy over Tullahoma Clarksville over Cordova Cleveland over Glencliff Blackman over Brentwood Mt. Juliet over Science Hill Round 2 (2 pts each) - Enter your four semifinalist picks, one from each group of 4 teams 1Bradley 2Indy 3Cleveland 4Blackman Round 3 (4 pts each) _ Pick the finalists 1Bradley 2Blackman Champion (8 pts): Bradley Runnerup (4 pts): Blackman 3rd (2 pts): Cleveland 4th (1 pt): Clarksville
  6. What I'm saying is how some people could say that the top two teams, aka Bradley by consensus and I think Indy, meet before the finals. whether or not they are the two best teams can't be determined since they are on the same side of the bracket. But that's just my opinion. This was the case when Ooltewah beat Soddy last year when Soddy was 2nd the year before. Ooltewah took teh 2nd seed when they won the region. Maybe not this year, but hey. Nobody is perfect.
  7. I see some very good match ups, but the seeding issue is different. for example, they only seed the top 4 teams from last year. And if that team doesn't make it, then the team from that region will get that spot. Hence Clarksville getting the 3 seed, but why Indy didn't get the 4 seed is odd. However, one could say that the top two teams in the state will meet before the finals. The same controversy that emerged when Soddy was the 2 and Bradley was the 3 a couple years ago.
  8. I sympathize with the wrestler, because i was in a similar situation when I was wrestling. I was in a tournament and I was down and the guy on top chopped my arm against the bend of my elbow and I got a point and recovery time. I wanted to continue because I didn't feel hurt, just mad. But the difference between my situation is that my coach let me wrestle. Sometimes it's good for the team if the wrestler stays down and wins, but the cost of doing so is great.
  9. From the rulebook: Rule 8-2-2 "If a contestant is injured as a result of an illegal hold [aka a slam], unnecessary roughness or unsportsmanlike conduct (during the match) to the extent the contestant is unable to continue following a maximum of two minutes recovery time, shall be awarded the match by default....Recovery time is for injury because of an illegal hold is not deducted from the injured wrestler's injury time allowance and coaching is allowed." Now, the ruling was correct. the offensive wrestler executed a slam, whether it was a slam or not I would have to see, and the defensive wrestler was awarded recovery time. A wrestler very well could pretend to be hurt by an illegal move and then take the 2 min. injury time and win the match by default. I know of a situation close to this between Ravenwood and Brentwood, involving a major wrestler. Croy at 215 accidentally slamed the Ravenwood 215 and he needed recovery time. Now, the RHS wrestler could have taken the recovery time and won the match by default. But, he got back into the match and lost to Croy, keeping his perfect record intact. Can the rule be abused? Yes. Is the rule there for a reason? Yes.
  10. Okay, that makes sense. I bet it wasn't a hard choice who the wrestler of the year was. But, regardless, congrats to all who made the dream team.
  11. Good point, if I were a coach, I wouldn't mind having any of those 3 on my team.
  12. I'm not going to complain on how Kennedy and Jarrel are dream teamers, they both deserve it; but how is Croy the best wrestler in the mid-state and not a dream teamer?
  13. As I understand it, the referee will ask both coaches before the meet which # to use. If they cannot agree then the 14 weight class will be used by default. but I agree that the bigger schools who can field 12-14 weight classes wouldn't agree to the 7 or 10. It's more for the small schools who can't field a full team.
  14. if you want info about the tournament, go here. Should be a good tournament with several strong teams from Tenn, Kentucky, and Alabama.
  15. I'm not to far removed from the sport to say that the rankings were seen as a distraction. For the regular wrestler if and when you wrestle a 'ranked' opponent, and you know that he is ranked, you might not try your hardest to beat him. But I have seen a wrestler who is unaware of how good his opponent is wrestler harder than if he knew. I know I looked at the rankings several times and wondered 'Why is he up there?' or 'He is definitely good, but I don't think he's top 3.' Now I have wrestled some people who have been ranked, past and present, and have won and lost to them and the rankings are good in this case. But, as my coach always said, "The only rankings that matter are at the end of the season." When six guys get medals for their season, and 24 don't and countless wrestlers compete for a chance. While I may not like the rankings, I know some people will want to know who's the best in the state. And even if you and bray stop, someone will take it back up and rank them. It's just how we fans are. My vote is no more rankings. BUT, it's more like a necessary evil.
  16. Sometimes I wish acronyms were used more appropriately for teams. Although I do agree that McCallie is the evil blue empire. not so sure about Notre Dame, but to each man his own. But the GP West should be another great tournament with alot of great wrestling.
  17. Now guys, let's get back on topic Ravenwood beat Overton before Thanksgiving break, and Brentwood went 0-5 at Slamfest. in my opinion the rankings should go 1. Indy 2. Ravenwood 3. Overton 4. Brentwood I won't even attempt the individuals because it's far to early to tell how someone will do in February while we're still in December.
  18. Region 2 takes all 4th placers since there are more teams in that region than any other region.
  19. Well, another reason why the TSSAA doesn't work. Thanks for compiling the list though, I know some people need it.
  20. Whatever happened to the TSSAA picking which region gets which 4th placers advancing to the individual state? I keep looking on the TSSAA website and it hasn't changed.
  21. If this was the 2004-2006 Rebels and the 2008 Bruins, it would be a match to watch. But it's not, Franklin is in a slump and Brentwood is on the rise. I see Brentwood beating Franklin handily.
  22. This year I don't see Brentwood and Indy not meeting in the region finals. everyone else in their districts are going into weaker teams. Or to be more precise, teams that don't have state caliber wrestlers like both Indy and Brentwood have.
  23. The problem is though, that this year two will get to go to state, while next year only one can go. and Indy and Brentwood are arguably two of the top teams in the state. I could see both going to the duals this year.
  24. I know that when I was a wrestler I was a little upset when I had to wrestle guys from Chattanooga, because I knew that they were probably better than I was. And the other way around for weaker areas of the state, like the current Region 7 and 5. While each region has strong individual wrestlers, the teams themselves aren't as strong. Plus, a Bradley vs Soddy final at the duals happens almost every year. It'll be good to have more teams have a shot at winning the duals. (I can hear all the Chattanooga coaches/parents/wrestlers yelling at me now)
