The group of freshmen at Blackman this year is similar in size and talent to the group that Blackman had several years ago. When you put LeGrande Sommers and Tristan Rush along with the freshmen and Senior 7 together the Blaze look loaded for dual meets. No holes anywhere in the lineup.
Having the dual state after individual would make for a weeker dual tourny. Most of the seasons excitement would be over and fewer people would be interested in the state duals. Some Nortern(ILL.) teams have trouble keeping wrestlers after individual state ends. After there individual chance at a medal ends many of the seniors quit and don't wrestle in the state duals.I've seen alot of injury's before the state duals heal in time for individual state even if they kept a wrestler from particapating in the duals. It seems there is no easy answer but switching dual and individual order would be a mistake.
I still don't see the point in seperating medalist from a previous year? If you won your region you face a 4 from another region and that should be enough . Lets say even before regions are wrestled the TSSAA would put out a bracket and you would just slot in how you qualify. It might make people pay closer attention to what is happenning in a region other than their own.Say the number 1 qualifier in region 8 would be sloted against the 4 from Region 6 it would have both looking at the other regions finishes to have a look ahead at who they might face.If two previous medalist in the same region finish 1 and 2 in their region they still would get seperated in differant halves of the bracket.Seperating previous medalists just seems like unnecessary headache. Double elimination along with preset slotting would make for a much truer finish.
How will the state individual tourny be seeded(Criteria)? With only 8 regions and four from each region wouldn't be easy and fair to seed all 1's against 4's and 2's vs 3's in the first round with a blind draw on where each region is placed on the bracket at the start. Why is consideration given for medaling in the past and possibly even at a differant weight?
Where are the Region dual and Individual championships being held at? What are the standings so far for team duals? I know Blackman is undefeated in dual meets so far this year but hasn't wrestled in a dual format since Dec 11th. Do you have to wrestle all the teams in your district to qualify for regions or all the teams in your region?
