Game 1 goes to Eagleville with the Cougars playing sloppy. Game 2 tonight. Hopefully MTCS can refocus and come away with a split. Hats off to Eagleville as they played well and hit the ball hard. Should be a good night for baseball.

MTCS has a big Monday, Tuesday series with Eagleville. Should be 2 great games with both teams needing to sweep to improve their district standings. MTCS and Eagleville series has been very intense the last couple of years. Look for the same this year, going to boil down to who wants to win. Probably will see some small ball to get some runners on and make things happen.

MTCS cougars played Friday night. We looked a little better in all areas. I think our bats are coming around, defense looked a liitle better and I saw some improvements in our pitching. 1 more scrimmage Wednesday night if the weather permits. Cant wait.
  4. 2 that I would add to the above list would be Jason Moates. Hard throwing Right Hander who blew out his elbow in the majors and also Eddie Pye. Played for a while with the Dodgers.

Irish 4, Doesnt look like many people want to talk about 9A baseball just yet. Maybe it is to cold for them. Some are still playing basketball. As far as the cougars go, I did see some spots that we need to improve upon. I think that the longer practices that they are having is letting them get in more reps. Hard to work 28 players everyday. When we get the field construction finished that should help even more. Pitching looked decent, fielding was average, and as always hitting could be better. We need to be more aggressive at the plate. That normally comes around closer to the season start. As for first day I would give us a C+. Would have been lower but the pitching brought the final grade up. Maybe some of the other schools will post how they are doing. I believe Cascade has not played yet as they had a workday, and I believe Eagleville played a AAA school. Not sure about any of the others.
  6. excuse me young man but I am HIS MOTHER. And I am stating the facts. You have got to be kidding me!!! this is terrible, why is a MOM on here trying to talk up her own son. let his play talk, and you keep your mouth shut. If i was that kid i would be embarresed that his mom his talking him up on COACHT.com. Scouts do not read this, so no need to try and sell your son to us. Let his play do his talking!! Please understand that everyone on this board will not see this young man play. That is the purpose of the board is to share information about players and teams, some of which we will never see but only learn of them through this board. It is obvious that this mother is proud of her son and was sharing the information. That is great. That is what the game is about, building young men and also letting the parents enjoy this time in their sons life. I appreciate knowing the name of this young man, as I will be watching for more information on him in the future, and since Spring Fling is held in my city I might even get to see him play. Keep on preaching parents it is one of the joys we get from our sons playing. We have spent enough time and money on this sport that we are allowed to crow just a little.

Here is the way that I see it as a broad overview. As far as I know all of the teams lost quite a bit of talent. Some more than others, some lost pitching while others lost fielders. I do think think it should make for a great season and a great opportunity for some young guys to step up and fill a void. I know at MTCS we have a lot lot of young talent with potential, I know eagleville has a bunch of kids and the last few years have been a scrappy bunch. Cascade is Cascade, Bassham will have them ready and it will always be tuff game. Not sure about Forrest as they lost 2 big seniors last year. I do not know alot about Moore County(other than I hope that the fried pie guy is still on the square when we go down there to play). Also Huntland is a mystery. As the season starts I am sure that the word will travel on the up and coming players and the returning ones to watch out for. Should make for a great season. I still think pitching will be a big part of these games. Would not surprise me if we see a lot of 4-3,5-4,3-2, games. Might come down to whoever plays small ball best wins. I cant wait.

Allright Eagles 13, Cougarball, and coffebreak, let us start with some some good discussion on the first day of baseball practice. Beautiful day here in the Boro for baseball. A balmy 23 degrees with snow and ice covered field. Should be a pitchers dream. Hitters dont want to hit the ball in this cold. What does everyone have returning this year? Who wins the district? What 2 teams will host the district tournaments? Lots of good stuff. Let the fun begin.
  9. I will be honest with you, I think most coaches use this phrase to make you think they know what they are doing. I have studied hitting because my son is a pitcher and what all of the "professionals" tell you is that for the most part a high school player is just doing good to hit the the ball. When they start trying to place the ball their average goes way down. (which was stated by a previous post) If I was giving hitting advice I would tell my son to get up there, hit the ball somewhere, and have fun. We sometimes try to complicate this game too much at the high school level. I like it when my son is pitching and I hear a coach tell a kid to hit backside, I know that is probably an out. lol
  10. Allright southpaw, here is a question for you. Do you throw #1 vs. #1, #2 vs. #2, and #3 vs. #3 or do you mix it up and throw #3 vs. #1 , etc. Just a little food for thought. Could it be that some actual coaching could come into play? Some will come up woefully short if this is the case.
  11. I agree that Stevie does have a LOT of talent. Great kid and good work ethic. Oakland also has Griffin Moore who should be a big help on the the mound. Also remember that they are only juniors and they still have 2 years of baseball to play. Should see a lot out of them over the next 2 years.
  12. Good job guys!! Will probably have to head down south and catch the game. Got to see the game with Nashville Christian. This should be a good matchup. Two real good men coaching 2 good teams. Hate to see a looser in that situation. Good luck to you guys. Keep representing the region. Hope to see you back in the boro playing at our field for the trophy.

Congratulations to Cascade for their 1st place finish, and to Eagleville for their 2nd place finish. Hope both of you do great in the regionals. Go and show them that 9A is a tuff district and that we have some great teams and players. Both of these teams are scrappy and have the will to win. GOOD LUCK to both of you!!!!!!

We are going to start in the morning. Infield is tarped and dry. All outfielders must wear a class 3 life jacket and we will have throw rings if needed. Umpires will be wearing red life guard swim suits.
