  1. As I recall y’all extended a drive via a fake punt yourselves. That’s as much a trick as any play we ran. A play ain’t a trick play if it’s something you practice and run. If it’s drawn up in the dirt during a timeout I guess it’s a trick play then. How many big games, at all levels, over the years have been won by a gutsy call though? Several. You do what you’ve gotta do.
  2. First cold game of the year coming Friday. Gonna be about 31 degrees at kickoff I reckon. Obviously this is a factor that’s the same for both teams. I don’t know whether or not the cooler temps will have any effect on either squad or not.
  3. Yeah, he looked good tonight against Whitwell. No lingering issues it didn’t seem.
  4. I hope he gets to. Sounds a lot like when 54 for us, partially separated his shoulder early against you guys and played the rest of the game with his arm basically hanging limp at his side.
  5. The depth and numbers of Gordonsville are obviously huge strengths in this game. Clay has 8 guys that play basically every snap of the game. We saw that play a role in Gordonsville’s last possession in the prior game, when they drove the field with the run game before stalling at the 4 with the personal foul call that backed them up to the 19. We saw the same thing factor into the playoff win at Turney Ford in 2020 when the Tigers drove the field with Holt packing the pigskin on virtually every play to win the game. That being said, this is the Dawgs year. 8 guys playing every snap or not, the Black and Gold get it done!
  6. I saw a couple of posts that referenced 5 getting hurt for Gordonsville against South Pitt. Any details on that? I certainly hope that young man is alright. As far as I know Clay is at full health. Both teams deserve to be at their full strength for this matchup.
  7. This will be the 7th meeting between the teams historically. Whitwell is 6-0 in those prior meetings. The last time they met was 2018 in the first round, so no players on these teams were in that game. There shouldn’t be any psychological edge there. This time of year you’ve gotta be able to run the football and Clay should have that covered with 28 and 11.
  8. From what little I’ve seen, Gordonsville is better in the trenches, especially if they choose to keep guys fresh with a rotation up front. Win the line of scrimmage, win the game usually.
  9. I was impressed with the Gordonsville defensive line play. They spent a lot of time in the Dawg backfield. Albritten is a gamer at QB too, he got good when the Tigers needed him the most. It’s always hard to beat Gordonsville and we don’t do it much anymore. I’m sure proud of the Black and Gold tonight. Hopefully we will meet in the 3rd.
  10. Should be a dandy atmosphere tomorrow night. There’s no reason that Gville shouldn’t travel well, and Clay will have an extra big crowd on hand. I hope the game lives up to the expectations.
  11. Dog13, is right, video is synced with audio now. The feed can be found at dalehollowhorizon.com/listen or at the Dale Hollow Horizon Facebook page. Video is being provided by Clay County’s Booster Club. The guys call it like there’s no video with it because some folks still opt for audio only.
  12. I was blown away when I heard that Gordonsville has 25 seniors. Is that accurate? I thought our group of 9 was big for A ball. With Gordonsville at 365 enrollment and Clay at around 320, you wouldn’t think you’d see that big of a separation in the size of those groups. Obviously the old saying of “they can just play 11” always applies, but 25 seniors, WOW.
  13. Does Gordonsville split carries amongst several kids or do they rely heavily on one guy like they did two years ago?
  14. Gordonsville is the favorite in this one despite what any power rankings, polls, or common scores say. At the end of the day, the Bulldogs are 3-21 in their last 24 meetings with the Tigers, with those wins coming in ‘03, ‘08, and ‘19. With that being said, Clay County is fine and dandy being the underDawgs. Should be an electric atmosphere at John Teeples Field this Friday. Clay County wins 22-20!
  15. The Pirates would’ve come to Celina for a regular season game in ‘84 and won. The Bulldogs travelled to SP for a regular season game in ‘83 and got their only victory over the Black and Orange.
  16. How good is Cornersville’s big tailback? He’s a good looking kid, I believe they lost a lot of their offensive line from last year though haven’t they?
  17. Video killed the radio star. I always enjoyed watching UT play with the sound down and listening to the radio broadcast, much more descriptive for obvious reasons. Nice that y’all have video feed.
  18. Oughta be a good one that’s worth the TSSAA new playoff admission prices! I’m gonna say with the Pirates being perennial powers and with the home field advantage, it’ll take Clay a few special big plays and a few Pirate mistakes to get it done, but tomorrow nights the night for the Dawgs! CC 29 SP 28
  19. Just out of curiosity, does SP have a lit practice field? Playing so deep into the playoffs each year after time changes would make this a necessity to keep that game field in such immaculate condition each year.
  20. I can tell you this much, SP may be “down” by their standard but anyone who has a kid like 2 sitting at running back is ain’t down too much. The biggest factor will be how quickly the Dawgs can adjust to the speed of him and others. I believe we’ve got kids that can run with the Pirate skill players but the most difficult thing is seeing it live because unless it’s 1’s on 1’s between a few guys in practice Clay hasn’t seen that kind of quickness all season. Not to mention that 2 has physical maturity, strength, and explosiveness to boot. Gotta keep him bottled up. On the other hand, SP may throw all over us, but I love our secondary against anybody, especially on the deep ball.
  21. I guess when you’ve got 7 silver and 5 gold it draws a lot of support for the other guy!
  22. You’re exactly right about that. 2 great four year starters that have meant a tremendous amount to our program will be leaving out, 20 and 60. Outside of them, 1 and 40 have been wonderful first year senior additions that will be sorely missed, but the nucleus is back.
  23. Congrats to Gordy. The Tigers were better than I thought. 3 and 14 played great, and the O-line too. We had trouble getting to 3. I love our guys. Congrats to them too on 9-1. On to the next!
  24. All Tigers at this point. Dawgs playing the worst they’ve played all year. Got a half left though. Credit the Tigers and the wetness for that both I guess, but mostly the Tigers.
