  1. Can Alcoa beat Maryville? Yes. Will they, we will find out August 28. True, Alcoa is a fast, athaletic team. But they are also a physical team. People dont see that thanks to all of the attention that the skill guys get. And as far as a "weak pre-season" goes: Farragut, Powell, Oak Ridge... all teams of a higher classifacation and all teams that Maryville plays/played in regular season games. And I wouldnt think of Farragut and OR as weak at all.
  2. OR has a strong, physical D. But if it wasnt for some self-inflicted mistakes by Alcoa, the F5 would have won by 40+. When Alcoa has 15 penalties to OR's 0, you know that the Tornadoes wern't themselves. They just wernt able to keep momentum going once they had OR on their heels, partly thanks to penalties and ref mandated water breaks after every long run by Alcoa...
  3. Maryville @ Alcoa, August 28,2009. Rebels have a large number of enrolment, Tornadoes got a large helmet to run out of. This will be on of the best games of the year...
  4. I must agree.....Rankin is a very good coach but has always put himself in a position where great talent is plentiful. Alcoa itself has talent but when you include the huge influx of Blount and Knox County kids that are coming there to play football their talent pool is huge. Yep, Alcoa's recruit'n is starting to catchup with Maryville's in county recruit'n..........sorry STARSANDBARS! How about Maryville and Alcoa have a "outside the city limit" player game. Lord knows, there would be enough players on both sides of the field! I can only imagine how Alcoa football would be if the enrollment was 1500+ students like Maryville or even 2000+ students like Farragut! Are you an idiot? How can you blame a kid for wanting to play for a winner? When you want to start the ole city schools recruit stuff, ask these questions: Who wins more? Who sends more players to college? Who wouldnt want to be the next Cobb, Warren, Lankster, Sykes, White, S.Thompson, Douglas, Maples, C.Thompson and so on? Which is more appealing, 14-1 or 1-9? Who has better coaches? You talk about how Alcoa/Maryville recruits? The county kids would stay if their "zone" school had a team worth playing for. Dont be jealous because kids want the chance to win a championship...
  5. first of all, there has never been a 6A champ so no, Alcoa would not have 5 in a row in 6A...and nobody said Farragut had bad coaches. Alcoa schedules who will play them, 6A teams like WB, Haritage, and so on refuse to play Alcoa in a seanson game. But they do play good teams. CAK, Loudon,White House, Fulton would finish in the top half of most 3,4,5,6A regions in TN. Alcoa has capitalized on the tallent that they have around them.
  6. well Alcoa still has one more thing they have to do, 15-0. Can this be the year??? Either way, dont look for a drop off quit yet.
  7. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  8. thank you thank you. i'll be here all year... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  9. the jamboree keeps inching closer. any new teams in?
  10. Alcoa vs maryville brings in more people than any other game in the state. again i bring up the championships. this game is advertised in Atlant news papers.
  11. i apoligize, i miss understood your statment. but i do hear a lot of that stuff about Alcoa and maryville. Kyrus and Brian wanted a chance to win togther. Chris Shiverdecker is the RB. he had some family in a car wreck and they moved back to Alcoa where the rest of thier family lives. most of the more recent ones came because the ring. the small school appeals to a lot of people. that help?
  12. maryville will be just fine this year. sure they have a tougher schedule, but that will only make them better come playoff time. looking at it, i only see 3 teams that are capable to beat maryville this year. and as long as coach quarles is there, they will be in good shape. one thing that will help is they get 2 weeks to prepare for the cross town rivalry while Alcoa has to prep for the 15-0 4A state champs of Ky last year in Bell Co. once again, this will be the best game of the season and it will probably be a close one.
  13. here we go with the "Alcoa recruits" stuff. my argument is simple, if you are a top notch player, do you want to play for a 1st round playoff team or play for a state championship? you cant blame the kids for wanting the chance to win. Alcoa also sends more players to D1 schools. maryville has the same situation, players go there because they believe that they have a better chance to get a ring. not to mention Alcoa is rated higher than wb in academics as well as football.
  14. i was simply saying that wb had a bad year last season so the sevier co. people shouldnt be that happy about beating the govs. most of my posts about the jamboree was just saying that it will be nice to see 2 old rivals on the same field again, at least for a quarter. i dont have anything against wb other than the fact that they droped Alcoa forcing them to travel to middle tennessee and out of state for regular season games. but if you insist, the Alcoa- Maryville game this year should be a good one... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  15. no offense to any wb guys but my old pee wee team could have beaten them last year. what happened when sevier co played Alcoa in a recent jamboree??? The F5 jv put up a couple td's on them. maybe the Sevier Co. teams can make a real playoff run this year...then again, maybe not.
  16. the jamboree is at maryville this year. look for the city schools to show nothing and still the county schools who willl throw everything they got at them, we saw how seymore celebrated after "beating" maryville in last years festivities.
  17. yes but jamborees dont mean much. nobody shows anything, just running basic plays. word is Alcoa will finally get a crack at wb (for a quarter), unless the govs want to back out of that one too. im glad to see that we will finally get to see the F5 show bluont county the real reason wb stoped playing Alcoa. this might be the most anticipated jamboree quarter ever...
  18. Oh that makes since. either way, these are clearly the top 2 programs in the state. and i cant wait for this years game. and as TO would say, "get your popcorn ready" for a great game for both teams. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  19. Wait, what other 5? Concecutive gold ball count is 5-0(was 4) in Alcoa's favor.
  20. Alcoa and Maryville are consistantly the top 2 teams in the state. If you are a football fan you will be at Goddard Field at Alcoa this year for the game.
  21. I have not heard anything on Wheeler or Cunningham. Nor have i seen them. More players always helps though. As far as WB vs Alcoa, the reason given by WB officials was that the game dosn't bring in money. So they go out and scedule a team with a smaller following and a longer drive. Obviously money wasn't the reason the rivalry is dead.
  22. Alcoa vs Maryville. The rivalry of the RINGS.
  23. Thats ashame. Players enjoy competing against friends from other near by schools.
  24. Alcoa should take care of Bell Co. BC has a good team but like APB said, Alcoa will have more speed and strength than any team Bell saw last year in their 15-0 season. This will be Alcoa's 1st game after a long hard summer and they will be ready to get a chance to hit some new colors. Bell Co. like to run the ball, a lot. So the D-Line to set the tone early with Kerr, Burchfield, McGlothlin at DT and Robinson and Warren at DE.
