  1. Sounds like it was a heck of a game. Congrats to SHHS on the win. How was Odem tonight Tri?
  2. 40 grand a year. I'd have an assistant who could draw up plays and do the technical stuff, and I'd handle the players. Any coach can draw up plays, but it takes someone who loves basketball and can motivate his players. A good head coach needs to be able to relate to his players, know who to play, use his bench wisely, and always put a motivated, prepared squad on the floor. I think I could do that. But my real dream is to build a basketball center somewhere in Kingsport, like 3 courts where people can come in and just play ball. It'd be like the Y except better, because the resources and focus is all on basketball. Have tournaments and stuff, which would be great for guys who's high school days are over but don't wanna stop playing competitively. The only problem would be, I'd be the owner and I'd have to deal with ownership stuff, but in actuality I would probably play ball for like 10 hours a day. Maybe I'd just hire managers to run that stuff and I could play.
  3. Capital 1, you lost me somewhere along the line, but what I think you're accusing me of is bashing Vannoy because he's the transfer and he's taking minutes away from a kid who's been there all along. That's what I got out of it, but I could be wrong. If so, that's not true at all. I don't care one way or another about that. Ashlon Adams for example, who pulled a Vannoy and transferred schools, I am a huge fan of his game. I don't care that he transferred. I don't know any of the Central players, so I'm not upset that some kid isn't getting playing time. Me and Odo are both posting in hopes that Vannoy reads it and settles down. Odo just does it with a little less color. But I'm posting in the 1% of him reading this and saying, "I need to play smarter." Plus, I'm not gonna hold back on a kid that plays with very poor body language. And for what you said about him taking the most shots, heck yeah he's taken the most shots. If you can make them, then I don't care how many shots you take, like Odem can take as many as he wants. But if Vannoy isn't hitting them, and a lot of times he isn't, then give up the ball. Simple.
  4. Stok, let it be known that I have no coaching experience, but there's two things I know. I could do a better job coaching the Los Angeles Clippers and I could do a better job coaching the 2008-2009 Cougars. I'm not saying I have all the answers and Central could start beating everyone but I certainly could do a better job managing the players who never seem to be on the same page. Believe me, there's some anamosity between those players right now, there's gotta be. Anybody could smoothe that over better than Vaughn.
  5. Ah, Cap so because you met the parents you are singing his praises to high heaven? You guys getting married or something? Why else meet the parents? You met them once and you're convinced they're great loving people. Having good parents doesn't make you a good basketball player. In any type of system, up-tempo, half-court, you still gotta play defense, take smart shots, and play with a positive attitude. Vannoy doesn't display those characteristics. The thing is, Vannoy can control all of this stuff, that's why I've been going off about him. If Austin Box reads this, I'm sorry for the earlier disses of your game. Box plays with what he has, and that's all you can ask for. Vannoy subtracts so much from what really is a pretty talented player. If he wanted to, he could play tough defense, shoot more shots under control, rebound, and stop sulking on the court. For a wing, he has very good size and he's athletic, to me that rings of a game changer. Well, he does change the game, but not for the better. Cap, let me put this in a light that you can understand, if I was starting a team, I would take every starter you had and maybe a couple of bench guys before I'd take Vannoy. And you guys are what, 9-7?
  6. Odo, you are speaking Gospel my friend. Those two posts you just had made me stand to my feet and giving you a rousing "Amen" and a thunderous round of applause. Not only are you saying everything I've been trying to say, but you give me another person backing me up on this. You're the man of the hour. Here's what I suspect, though. I think sixtonjoseph might be trying to get a rise out of us. Because nobody who is walking God's green earth can tell me that Vannoy isn't killing the Cougars. No defense, no court vision, bad shot selection, a horrendous on-court attitude. He's the guy controlling the ball all the time, so there's no way that sixtonjoseph can say Vannoy needs the ball more. I'm pretty sure he's just trying to get us riled up. If he truely believes what he's been posting then he has gone so far past crazy that there isn't enough voltage in the world that could bring him back to sanity.
  7. Haha, I'd like for someone to start a poll about that if it didn't seem so malicious (it isn't). I bet the results would totally punch you in the face. Nobody thinks he's Central's MVP. I've read a bunch of Central people on here say how he's killing Central right now. I've seen it with my own eyes. I seriously don't know where you are getting this Vannoy love from. Related possibly? Vannoy himself possibly? I don't know but I do know that he IS allowed to play his game. Vaughn has given him a heck of a green light. Look, you can't spill abunch of garbage on here and end it by sayin hey that's just the facts, because they aren't facts. He has single handedly taken the Cougars this season and has bludgenoned them to death. Ugly, bitter death. In a less vivid way, everyone on here is gonna agree with that assessmement.
  8. Well, believe me when I say there's not anybody who enjoys making fun of the Mama's House Raiders than me, but I won't have any free time Thursday for High School Basketball, and we have the National Championship being played so I gotta watch that if I'm to keep my sports credibility. I'll definately be rooting against the Mama's House Raiders, though.
  9. Thanks pal, I'm glad there's someone out there supporting the Wii. It can keep you wrapped up for hours. Back on the T. I like it!
  10. There we go, we got crawdad on board. Things are all coming together, we're startin to roll again! Atta boy crawdad.
  11. TCSF, what's the deal here? I make a 2009 thread announcing the return and I don't get anything from it. I'm ashamed of all of you. What's happened to my empire!
  12. Are you at the game or what's going on here?
  13. frogger you are correctomundo. One of Central's biggest problems is that Vannoy IS allowed to play his game. It just so happens his game consists of bad things.
  14. Yes, it's true. I'm back! The holiday season wore me down. Between Christmas festivities and New Years festivities, I was one busy son of a gun. Never once did I feel like I had time to get on here and spill knowledge all over you people. In addition with my hustle and bustle, I was consumed by the Nintendo Wii. Don't listen to anybody but me when I say that the Wii is awesome. That's the whole reason they invented Christmas was because of that machine. On the basketball side of things, I went the Arby's twice, and neither were all day events. I'm not a huge fan of the Arby's, which is odd because I'm a huge basketball fan. NBA, college, big 9, pick-up ball, you name it. But the Arby's bores me something fierce. With the exception of a couple of guys like Leslie McDonald and that dude going to Ohio State, I'm just not that interested in seeing a bunch of players I've never seen before and I'll never see again, from places I've never heard of. I'm out of the loop on what's happening in the Big 9, all I know are the standings that Tricitiessportsfan provided. I'm guessing it's a tight race, but DB and SHHS probably have the upper hand. As the Big 9 starts to pick back up in a few days, I'm sure I'll be where I need to be on my Big 9 knowledge. I did hear that Odem played like a man against DB, in a losing effort, and that a near fight broke out at a Central game. That sounds pretty hilarious. I wonder what the fight was about? Vannoy was probably punching his teammates in the face and somebody got sick of it. Central loves attention and since their conference championship aspirations are bleak, I think they should turn into a soap opera. I want a fight every game. I want the crowd to riot or something. Well, it feels good to post again, I should be a regular from here on out.
  15. I knew my Rebels had it in them! We weren't afraid of the DWD and we went in a took no prisoners. Central blew another game after beating DB. We aren't very good, at all, right now; yet we still won. I'm extremely proud of our guys. I know the Cougars weren't 100% but they should have had enough pieces to have beaten lowly South. Albright definately isn't going to give you anything that Devault can't. Devault trumps Albright! So does Taylor Winchell! Brown was slowed by ankle, but who doesn't have ankle problems these days! Roberts wasn't a factor. He had been shooting lights out. From the South side (great song by Moby) its real simple. We shot the ball unbelievably well. That's probably not going to happen again, so savor this night. They did take control of the post game tonight, as well, which is something South can build on, but the win tonight came down to shooting. I'm proud of South, and this can be our signature win. I'd love if we shot like that every game but hey, I'm a realist! But friends, here's the thing. Vannoy continues to astound me. Note to coachT readers: I am astounded. He never stops shooting. He never gets his team into the offense. He walks and mopes around. He doesn't hit his assignments on defense. Yet he still plays! And apparently the coach keeps the green light on for him. I imagine at halftime he goes around the room punching his teammates in the face. He's basically punching his team in the face by playing for himself. Tons of shots, little defense. The box score will tell you he scored 20 or 21, but it's the same old thing. Keeping his teammates out of rhythm and not playing defense. The bad thing for Cougar fans is he'll probably think "I had 20!" and keep on doing the same thing. Why do I keep going off about this? Because I'm sick of watching good teams falter (with the exception of tonight against my Rebs.) I'm sick of watching DB not show up against Central, I'm sick of THS having to escape against Boone, I'm sick of Central not being able to beat teams who are worse than them. DB has got to play with more intensity and find ways to keep feeding the post, cause shooting 3s isn't their game. THS may be just not very good. And Central has Vannoy playing selfish basketball. Science Hill has been the only 'rock' this season. I've gotta question the leadership of the Cougars. If you have a player who is hurting your team this badly, (maybe they're unaware of it, which is their own fault) you have to have your leaders stand up and say something about it. You can't keep your mouth shut, especially seniors, while you keep losing games. I cheer for South and the rest of the conference I'm impartial about. I don't care about who is who unless its South, but I can't stand watching a team who isn't maximizing its chances to win. If you're doing all you can and you still are losing, fine, but if you're losing and it can be fixed, then fix it! Fix it! The Central seniors need to step up and tell this junior to play the offense, and guard somebody on defense. Or maybe Vannoy will just keeping punching them in the face and jack up more shots. I like dark horse teams, and Central, after DB, looked like it could be a dark horse. It could have be one of those fun years in the big 9 where Central steals the conference. I was looking forward to that. They ruined the very next game. And the game after that (tonight). I blame Vannoy for his selfish play, but I also blame the seniors. I've praised Devault and Roberts because they've been great in the games I've seen, but I'm depraising their leadership. I know Central fans will read this, heck, maybe Vannoy or the players if they check this thing. Let this be my decree to all things holy: Central fans wanna hate on everybody, like DB or the Rebels in football season. Here's your chance to have a top team, to mock all those teams you hate on. Let the word spread like wildfire, Get everyone on the team on the same page. Get Vannoy to play within the offense, stop firing up shots, and defer to better shooters (Roberts and Brown) and post players (Devault, Winchell). Get your seniors to show some fire and take pride in their season instead of letting some junior come in and take their season hostage. If Central people don't read this and spread the word, and take pride in your team, then you ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HATE ON ANYBODY ELSE AGAIN. Personally, aside from my penchant for a dark horse, and my distaste for bad basketball, I don't care what Central does. I'm fine watching DB and Science Hill and South. But nobody spreads hate like Central fans, and I'm giving you this opportunity to back it all up. Like I said, if you read this, fan or player, and don't try to do what it takes to fix this season, then don't hate on any team again. You can never call DB or Sciene Hill overrated, and you can't gripe about whatever is you guys gripe about with THS. And after tonight, you can't say anything to South about anything! Like I said, if you guys can't realize what potential you have on your team, then it doesn't bother me, it gives South an extra spot in the conference, but just make sure you don't get on here and hate on other teams who don't have your guys' problem.
  16. Yeah, I haven't been as active on here as I would have liked, but I made sure I made I posted tonight. I'll be going to Science Hill if I'm able to. It's not for sure yet, but that would be my game of choice.
  17. Another huge upset in the big 9. It never stops. How do you beat DB and lose to East? I understand that Brown was out, but still I think this team could have put up a better fight. Even without Brown they should have won. Vannoy shot like 25 times again. Coach Vaughn needs to do something about that. You think Vannoy would notice his shot isn't falling and say "maybe I should taper off this shooting business." He doesn't. He shoots more. Ridiculous. I don't know what in blue blazes is going on in the big 9.
  18. Wow, guy, you totally missed everything I said. Like everything. I said forget about this one game. I said over the past few years they have been dirty. Not one game. Several years worth. I said forget this one game. I'm talking all the time for the past few years. And I didn't say I went to a practice. I said I've talked to players after they've graduated and they told me about Whit. Again, I didn't say I went to a practice. Again, you couldn't have messed that up anymore. You're as crazy as Whit!
  19. First, I was a gossping old man, then I was a gossiping 90 year old woman. You can't pick a gender. And I don't know many 90 year old women who can operate a computer, or concern themselves with high school basketball. And why don't I bash SH? Like I said in my previous post, it was one game. Ok, SH I officially bash you. Feel better? SH did it for one game. Yeah every team has had a hard foul. But no team has a reputation for dirty play like Volunteer? You think everyone, me included just randomly picked Volunteer and say let's call them dirty! They get called out on being dirty because they ARE dirty. Have I sat in a practice and heard Whit tell his guys to be dirty? No, but if different Volunteer players are pulling the same stunts under the same coach, then I'm going to make a reasonable estimation that it's coming from the coach. Not to mention, I've heard a couple former players who are actually good guys say Whit's methods are a little sketchy. That's coming from actual players. The man doesn't have the talent to compete for a big 9 title so he uses dirty tactics, cheap shots, and undercuts, plus moving screens (not dirty but still not legal) to try to win, which they still don't do a lot of (winning that is). Like I said, it's not coincidence or a conspiracy that everyone complains about Volunteer's tactics. They've earned it. You reap what you sow. You wanna play like jerks, then you get treated like jerks.
  20. There's a reason people get on here and bash Volunteer. First off, if you think Sciene Hill was rougher than Volunteer in this last game, that's fine, that's just one game. Sounds like both teams got too aggressive. But for a handful of years no team has relied on dirty, cheap shots, and straight-up muggings like Volunteer. I'm a man about town, and when I talk basketball with former players, or even fans, if the conversation ever goes to Volunteer it's always the same response, "Oh those guys, I hate those guys, I remember when we played.." then they tell a story about how a Volunteer player undercut them or something. This is from everyone. So, yeah, they kinda have a reputation. Their coach is a straight-up crazy man. Most escaped loons go live under a bridge, well, Coach Whit stumbled into Volunteer and got a coaching job. When a crazy coach is telling crazy kids to do crazy things, then yeah, people are gonna bash Volunteer. The game is getting a little too physical, and the Foulcans aren't helping anything by acting like every basketball game is a Rocky fight.
  21. I won't go too much into game analysis or anything. TCSF covered it well, and I don't even know what I saw out there tonight (Central played well, DB didn't). I will say this though...DB had a major letdown. I don't know how DB fans feel after a loss like this, but their disappointment has to run higher than a normal loss. They came off of a win against a tough Greeneville team and couldn't have played any better. I graded them an A in my analysis. They deserved it. Then to come out and play this poorly, that's a shame. DB has more talent (sorry Central) but it didn't show tonight. So give the Cougars credit for pulling this one out. Some notes on Central: This is different group than the one that took a beating from Science Hill. The defense was worlds better, and the shots fell a lot easier. I don't know what's going to happen when Albright comes back but for Central's sake, keep giving Winchell a lot of minutes. He was extremely impressive tonight. A sophomore who wasn't scared of DB's bigger posts. Winchell was the most efficient player on the court. Roberts shot lights out, he was great tonight. Brown played really well, handling the ball and knocked down a shot or two. Devault got muscled around and had his shot blocked a few times, but he still was relentless in the post. It wasn't pretty by any means, but Devault found a way to be effective. And I don't wanna dog anybody, but Vannoy is still the weak link for this team. He shot A LOT and only hit one, I believe. He made a couple lay-ups but they were courtesy of great passes from his teammates. He hit a couple of free throws as well, but he struggled again from the field. Vannoy looks to have some talent, and plays like he talent (takes a lot of shots) so I'm thinking he might be cold right now. But for the games I've seen him play, he's shooting more than anyone on the team, and making among the least. Fix Vannoy and you got a solid team. I like the post options for Central. Getting Albright back gives them 4 skilled post players, Devault, Sturgill, and Winchell. None of them have great size, but 4 skilled post players is saying something. We'll have to see how they hold up throughout the season. So, which is the real Central team? The one who got punched in the face against Science Hill or the one that outplayed the "best" team in the conference. I try to study the games and figure this stuff out, but I don't know. You never know what you're gonna get from these guys. DB: I'm all for upsets (every now and then) but sometimes you wanna have a great team to fall back on. I'm not a DB fan by any means, but the team that showed up against Greeneville was the smooth juggernaunt that I was expecting. They were fun to watch, and they looked like they could make East TN proud with their play. Then they go to Central and it was like, what?? This game means DB is more flawed than everyone (me included) thought. It makes for a more compelling Big 9 race, but confirms East TN is weaker than I thought. Maybe we caught DB on an off-night and it'll be the "normal" DB from now on. I don't know, though. DB shot the ball poorly, might be just for one game, but maybe DB just can't shoot all that well. I don't know, we'll just have to watch them more. I was cheering for DB tonight, but it had nothing to do with the name "Dobyns-Bennett." It could have been any school in this area (SOUTH!!!) with DB's talent. But this year, I didn't care about the actual Big 9 race as much as I felt like seeing a great team play in our area. I guess the Celtics spoiled me. I wanted the team I saw against Greeneville, all year. One I could keep grading an 'A.' DB disappointed me, so my fallback plan is watch how this top 4 shakes out. Again congratulations Cougars. Keep the minutes up for Winchell!
  22. Yeah, I was there tonight. It was exciting, for sure. Central played 100 times better than I thought they would. Gotta give 'em credit. Glad I saw such a good game, though.
  23. I thought it'd be cool to do it like they do on the video games, and have Player of the Year Watch after like the third game. I used to always check that after every game. Just ask NCAA 2006, it's never too early for POTY!
  24. January 9th will big a huge factor in Odem's POTY chances. Gotta come up big against DB.
  25. Depth is certainly a big deal come tournament time for DB. In the big 9? Nope. No other team has any depth besides Science Hill. DB has SH beat with their starting 5. And Morgan's coaching could run circles around Cutlip's. I make fun of Morgan all the time because the term "Morganized" was coined and that's terrible. But Cutlip doesn't get it. My favorite move on his was the on going episode of wasting arguably the most talented player in this area, by letting him play wing, and didn't ever say "Hey, Ashlon, let's give post a try. Whattaya say?" Long story short, Morgan can get more out of his top 7 than Cutlip out of 15.
