  1. Well, if I caught Odem and Sylvester on off nights, then the good thing is, I still have plenty of time to see them. I'll see Sly twice over the next two weeks and Odem, mainly in January when they start coming closer to home. This list is just from what I've seen so far. We'll see how it shakes out as the season goes on.
  2. First off, Central's crowd went from being the best a couple of years ago, to one of the worst. I blame schs78. They don't yell anything. When they do yell, it doesn't make sense. And the ones that DO yell, leave in the middle of the game. Mysteriously come back, though. I like to joke with the people I'm with that they had to go get their high back. I'm probably not wrong about that, though. Again, I blame schs78. To the game! DB should run roughshod over Central. Central lost to SH by 25, and the Hill didn't even look that good. Expect a win somewere in the 25+ range. Central will struggle on the offensive end. Their best player will probably get 0 looks. Apparently, Central's guards have a vendetta against Devault, because they don't throw it in to him. Devault would probably be in over his head anyway, going against DB's posts. Central won't beat any of DB's guys off the dribble, especially Vannoy. Central will either have to throw up jumpers (Vannoy's speciality) or turn the ball over trying to get inside. DB will just run their offense, pick on Central's posts, and just keep rolling along. How DB's offense looked against Greeneville is what I expect against Central. Smoothe, sharp passes, lay-ups mixed in with good outside shooting. Beatdown, DB.
  3. I didn't hear that actually, but once you hear Taylor Harmon's dad going off about anything he wants, everyone else is just noise. Side note: Get Harmon's dad a muzzle. For Christmas. I think the Hill would be pretty stoppable, still, though. Although, it would be addition by subtraction, because DB would be much smaller and would have a huge hole. But at SH that coach (not smart) would play Adams at wing and let him throw up jumpers. That was frustrating, watching a coach who claims to be qualified, playing Adams at wing, and not post. Now he's in the post, and looking awesome. SH might be unbeatable when it comes to the big 9 thanks to everyone else is terrible, and DB would be Adams-less. But overall, come tournament time, SH would get bounced, quick.
  4. Yes, I did start a super similar thread a few weeks ago. My mistake was naming Odem Vs. Slyvester. That were the 2 everyone was talking about, but after watching these games early on, it's way unfair to the other (better?) players. My vote in the early going has been recast to Ashlon Adams. He looked great against Greeveville, putting in 19 points on very reasonable shooting. He missed maybe 3 shots on the day, and had a nice 3 point-play. He has the senior criteria going for him, and being a beast against a worthy Greeneville team, that should make him the front-runner. Jordan Edwards should also be in the conversation. He had 21, and kept getting lay-up after lay-up. The only thing about Edwards, is he gets really good passes to work with. They do a great job of lobbing it into him and all he has to do is turn and lay it up. That's why I'd put Adams above him. Odem didn't look as good as Adams against Central, the only game I've seem him so far. And Slyvester had a sturdy opponent against Greeneville, and I'm almost positive he didn't score a field goal. He had a few three throws, but I don't think he hit anything from the field. He was very active defensively and made some good passes, especially a couple of nice lobs to Edwards. He played a solid game, when you factor in everything, but that isn't what player of the year is about. When it comes to hype, nobody beats Slyvester. So maybe it's all about Slyvester, and people can rationalize it by saying how good he is defensively, and he's a leader. But all of DB's players play defense well, so they should be canceled out. When it comes to offense, Edwards and Adams are dangerous (!) while Slyvester is respectable. I'm hoping it's not a popularity contest (it is) and the best player wins the award. My top 5: 1. Ashlon Adams- The most dynamic player DB has. Has great post moves (perfect against the big 9) and his shooting ability adds an extra winkle to his game. He's not a sharpshooter, but it's more than respectable for a post-player. 6'5" and athletic gives him great ability on the defensive end 2. Jordan Edwards- A monster in the post. He finishes at the basket extremely well. Takes the lob pass and converts it into lay-ups at will. 3. Josh Odem- He's gonna get his points this year, except DB. Odem will have a very difficult time getting anything by Edwards and Adams. He's not quick enough to beat their guards off the dribble. DB should turn Odem into a jump shooter. I think he'll struggle against DB (we'll see) and if he does, no way you can give it to him. 4. Justin Slyvester- Solid all around player, and DB can feed off a lot of what he does. He's extremely active in the press, and makes good things happen when he's on the floor (98% of the time) Still, Slyvester's game isn't as striking as the top 2 on this list. If you had to take a player on this team to win a game, I'd take one of the two athletic post players who can score and rebound. Slyvester is great for DB, but for the another year, he's playing with the biggest front-court in this area.
  5. Sorry for the delayed post, last night was too eventful in football. But here it is nonetheless. Greeneville: Greeneville started out on fire, trading buckets with DB. Greeneville kept up the sharp play in the second, but a big swing at the end of the half gave DB the momentum. Greeneville threw the ball away with only a few ticks left in the half. DB pushed it up the court and Dustin McConnel threw up a prayer, and well, it went in. Pretty unreal shot but Greeneville shouldn't have let DB in that position. They should have had the last shot. The 2nd half started, and Greenville went cold, and couldn't hit any of their outside shots. I hear really good things about Jordan Short, and he did hit a few threes, but he missed a lot of shots. #23 for Greeneville played the PG position really well, but his sharp passes didn't matter because the other guys couldn't catch them. Greenville blew all kinds of lay-ups, as well. To sum it up, once their jumpers stopped falling, their offense could do little to sustain any offense. The bad thing is, Greeneville could probably finish 2nd in the Big 9. Even in a 20 point beatdown, they looked better than the rest of the conference. Lucky for you guys, we'll never know. Grade: C+ DB: Even in the first half when Greeneville was keeping it close, DB was still playing extremely well. There's not much you can do when guys are knocking down contested 3's left and right. Once those shots stopped, the better team pulled away. The word that kept coming to my mind was 'smoothe.' Greeneville was playing good, tough defense, but DB just used their passes to find open shots. It was a balanced offensive attack, that took good shots all night. The defense was tough, and created quite a few turnovers. Greeneville found few good shots around the basket throughout the game. DB was able to use their dribbles and sharp passes to get the shot they wanted. They used a lot of lob passes into Edwards for easy lay-ups. Ashlon Adams was the standout player tonight. I knew he had talent, but I had yet to see him as a post-player. Ashlong knocked down a few jumpers, ripped down rebounds, and showed some impressive post moves to score easily. DB should be very thankful for him, because he looked like he could terrorize the Big 9, and combine him with Edwards, well, I just don't know if anyone in the conference can hang with them. Grade: A
  6. I have the gold around my waist.
  7. Maybe you should have thought about the people who aren't huge swimmers. But I'm huge on pizza! Then that makes me Rocky. and Rocky wins.
  8. Well, when I think bad basketball, I think 55 point losses. Nice choice in not going.
  9. Thanks TCSF for the DB analysis. I like the part about how Crockett can't make lay-ups, open jumpers, or free throws. That's the perfect storm, right there. I went to the Tn High East game. THS controlled the game for 3 of the 4 quarters, so it was pretty much an open and shut game. But I'll delve in further.. East- Bad. I won't spend too much time here. Horrible defense. They have some pretty interesting three point shooting, but other than that, not much else. Their threes were falling tonight and they still weren't in contention in this game. They turned the ball over like crazy, and like I said, the defense was atrocious. Bad. Grade: D THS- The Vikings played reletively up-tempo, much to my suprise. But first thing is first. Number 11 for the Vikings looks exactly like Edward Norton. You know, the guy from Fight Club and the newest Hulk. Just like him. He should only be refered to as Edward Norton from now on. Also, Corey Young got the ball stolen from him by a former Holston Optimist player. Not pretty on Corey's part. Not a whole lot to report from the Vikings camp. They ran their pattened defense where they play like they're on fire and foul people until the opponent is dazed and confused. When they weren't killing people, they did create a lot of turnovers, and made plays on the break. The offense wasn't dazzing, but they shot the ball well, worked it inside well to Canty, and just took good shots. A lot of the Vikings points came from running on the break, off turnovers (thanks East!) Like I said, it was a smoothe, methodical offense and they got the shots they wanted. This all seems nice, but I have to think a lot of it has to do with East's horrible defense. I do know that THS's defense was there, but it's hard to gauge their offense from this East team. The starters played almost of all this game, I'm sure because their bench has been described as very week. Young played pretty well, knocking down jumpers and running the offense and Webb look good tonight, playing within the offense and did some nice things. This looks like just another year for THS. 3rd in the conference, perhaps? Grade: B.
  10. Maybe, since you're the big man on campus, can teach your basketball team how to dribble and pass properly. I mean, you guys were talking big game before the Science Hill, and now I don't hear a thing from you guys. Maybe you can tell your team to stop throwing up jump shots that they cannot make. Maybe you shouldn't call me out, because 0% of the people of coachT care about schs78 and me on the other hand? I did start the phenomenon the Inner Circle. People read my posts on here. I can already name Crawdad as a fan of rebelrebelman and I can name zero people who would mind if you deleted your account. Strike up the band! Rebelrebelman 64 - schs78 39!
  11. 1. Going to the DB game is cool with me, because I can read your analysis about a meaninful team (not the Raiders) and you can contribute to my Odem, Slyvester POTY watch, which sorely needs some help getting going. 2.Putting Fox's pizza in the concession stand is borderline genius. Thank God! 3. I'll be at the game tomorrow, no doubt. 4. For the fans of old rebelrebelman, Cental fans, more than anybody, tend to get out of line and they're like a swarm that all get on and say ridiculous things. So as long as they're around, I'll be on the Cougars case all season.
  12. Yeah, I guess I could pull the old Eminem/Slim Shady bit, where you never knew what you were going to get. I'm glad there's a fan out there for some of my older posts, which were pretty much just trying to get under people's skins and crack some jokes. It's a lot easier to do that when the team you cheer for is undefeated and steamrolling people. It's harder when they lose, and basketball season is pretty much non-existant. Since then, I guess I've been relatively tame. The only thing I've done is critiqued a certain Central player's game. After re-reading it, it probably was too harsh, but I didn't mean it to be an attack. Just an anaylsis of his game. I miss posting like I did during football season, but there's a time and place for everything, and I'm not sure if there's a lot to joke about this season. I'm more of a basketball guy anyway, so I like talking shop with you guys on here about the games and everything. But, the second I have a chance to hound somebody and crack a joke, I'm gonna take it /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  13. I was hoping for a response from my previous post on the last page. I'm going to the East THS game tonight, so I'll have some game analysis of both teams ready to give them the grade they deserve. I'll inform you on this game TCSF, if you inform me on the game you go to, which might be humor-laden if you go to the Raiders game.
  14. Oh, believe me the comedy should be plentiful with the Raiders. And by the way, when did you let your guard down. You were pretty uptight on the football boards. Straight facts, no questions asked. You still provide the information (which is great) but you make for a nice conversation, as well. The lighter side of TCSF, if I may. If I can change...and you can change...everybody can change!!!
  15. Well, ole buddy, the sister thing is the real wild card. Normally, never in 100,000 years would I watch the Raiders play basketball but you have a unique situation. If it were me, I'd go see DB, but that's because I haven't seen them thus far, which I don't think applies to you. You saw them play in one of those tournys I think. I'd throw South and DBoone out. I'm a South fan and even I'm not too concerned about this matchup. Bad basketball. You can either watch a well-oiled machine at home, and support your team, or share some Christmas spirit and support the Radier sister. For you, I'd be nice and support the Raider sister and hope for some unintentional comedy in the boys game. Did I help?
  16. Yeah, that Crazy Bread with marinara sauce is something else. I love that stuff. I've had really good pizza from there before, though. It's gotta be thin crust, which isn't Hot 'n Ready and it's more expensive, so I just say screw it and get the Hot 'n Ready. Anyone else feel stupid saying "Hot 'n Ready" when you order?
  17. I tried to tell everyone how good the Bucs were gonna be, but nobody listened to me! And normally I feel like dying when I eat Little Ceasar's (don't ask me why I keep eating it) but you're little plug for LC made me want some. Overrooked cardboard, here I come!
  18. The real shame about this game is that the PG Gash graduated. I saw him play a couple of games last year, and my god was he special. Real small, but had a complete game that was extremely fun to watch.
  19. That, hands down, is one of the funniest things I've read on here. I'm a huge fan of Eddie Shoelaces's game.
  20. Well, that's just pretty much awesome. This needs to happen. I'm tellin ya, podcasts are the wave of the future. We gotta cash in on the rush!
  21. No, I didn't. My apologies, but I was exhausted and the more I thought about that trip to Bristol, the better the Wake Forest-Indiana game sounded (terrible game.) I have a game slated for this weekend, so I figured I could skip tonight. But I was hoping you'd give a thorough game analysis, and well, you delivered. On the money, so kudos /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> I know I need to see THS, but I'll catch them in a couple weeks at DB. By the way, that clown who posted about his podcast earlier, c'mon, why does that guy get one and we don't? I was born for podcasting. Get the ball rolling on that one!
  22. Oh, yeah, the game was solid, especially in the second half. He soundly was getting his shots around the basket. I just saw some shots I would think Odem would have knocked down. If this is off game for him, then he's in great shape. But if that's how he's going to be most of the year, then OK he's a solid player, but probably not POTY.
  23. DB wins. Did this game get changed to @ DB or @ Greeneville?
  24. 11 rebounds is nothing against Central, especially with Albright out. 5 steals is nothing with how out of sync Central's offense was. He didn't have a bad game, obviously, but the box scores are misleading. Odem was certainly active, but he was picking on guys shorter than him, and not that much bigger. I wrote that Devault was the best player on the court last night, but he didn't get 1/3 of the touches Odem did. Odem just didn't look like a player I want being named the best in the conference. From just last night, of course.
