  1. 3,000--just kidding-I'd have to check in the PrepXtra section to be sure. He has a good arm, we have average speed and below average size on line--pretty beat up right now too. No whining, just short of folks.
  2. Great info--still think this is going to be a nail biter. G-P has the rep for being tough-CAK is, as someone said, like a box of chocolates this year. Young D, and banged-up(that's football but CAK will always be thin once somone is hurt). Great experience for both teams not having to play someone from their own region during first round-one good rule from TSSAA amongt the others.
  3. If privates are only in D1 to win, then why hasn't CAK switched to D2?
  4. One of my best friends recently sold his business to go back and get his education degree so he could go into HS education. During his orientation to student teach he was told he was not allowed to bring any of his faith to work(in any visible way) no Bible on his desk or book shelf, no mention of Christ, nothing--I realize he can still live by his morals, etc. but the government has removed the Chrisitian faith from its traditional role in education in our country. Look at the mission statement of even schools like Harvard when they were founded. Top that off with the decline of parental involvement and the lack of accountability for teachers in some instituations and the result is the growth in privates. Mostly the local make up of folks--if someone wants to stop it they almost certainly can Freedom of is much better and different than freedom from or in the worst cases in our public schools, an outright hostility towards Christianity.
  5. Can only speak for our school- no violence, almost no drugs, no gangs, no fights, no serious disrespect for teachers, teachers working without the artificial protection of gov., smaller family environment, equal treatment of controversail topics (yes, God induced universe or just a big accident), better opportunity for involvment in extracurricular, better consistency in academics--maybe more if I think more 42 years ago your dad was supporting a very different (better) public school system
  6. This is the delima my wife and I faced when we had to decide where to send our four kids. Our local schools actively work against our beliefs and faith. I want my kids to be taught by folks who support me, not actively work against me(I realize not 100% of the teachers would-but the system does). It costs me $30,000 hard earned dollars to go to a private school for four kids--I didn't do it for athletics, although my kids play sports. I know not everyone can afford to do so, but if my school follows the rules TSSAA sets out for us in D1-why the hate? We already play against schools much larger than us.
  7. I think you miss the point that private schools are on the increase because, as a rule, when we (private parents) were going to to public schools, it didn't make any difference. Schools kept getting worse. The government defines the agenda, teachers (as a rule) are protected, they teach to the lowest common denominator, and the few bad eggs are allowed to negatively affect the whole. My sister and father in law are public school teachers and I grew up in a public school but they(publics)left us before we decided to leave them.
  8. Who has Grace hired to recruit players? I don't go there but I'm curious if you have facts why don't you report them? You can't recruit in D1. I'm sure Alcoa and Maryville don't recruit either /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />. You guys have it the toughest since you are pulling from a lower population center. It would be nice to have a relatively fair playing field for all kids(since the sport is supposed to be about them) but as long as kids from Karns can pay $100, provide their own transportation and go to Alcoa--as long as there are privates that give scholarships----as long as there are privates that don't(and follow the D1 rules--some do, believe me)----we will have these inequalities. Perhaps we should just do it on winning championships--you win two state championships in a row you have to move up a classification for four years.
  9. I'm pretty sure Gibbs and Carter are going to be AA--look at their enrollment on TSSAA--that's where they seem to be for football anyway--AA-4a
  10. You said you despise Grace and what they are trying to do--what do you mean?
  11. New TSSAA rule for this year--team can't play a team from your own region in the first round-unless your region sends five teams to the playoffs. So, the winner of this game will play either Happy Valley or GP-HV wins regin with win this weekend, I believe.
  12. Travel was the biggest issue, not scholarships. AA-4-A might still look good for playoffs-only issue there is some big, physical teams that can beat up what will always be a thin team numerically-even if we can compete technically, game plan, etc.
  13. Pretty good BC since it was 41-20 with the last Swater TD on the CAK JV.
  14. No whining from me about being at a private, my choice, but the multiplier is really a crock--DII solves the problem of financial aid/scholarships. Open zoning happens in many public schools as well-public teams in the Ktown area have kids going there that don't live in the district-provide your own transportation and a small fee and you're in if there is room. Seems the real goal of TSSAA is to ultimately stop privates from playing publics.
  15. By the way-an injury report isn't whining-unless you're looking for something negative. We've been hurt but we mostly hurt ourselves via inconsistency and inexperience in key spots. That's football. Oh yea-#42 will probably be in sparingly due to an achilles--there, now I'm whining:)
  16. #23 probably out-foot injury, #27 may be back-ham is better, but ankle is hurt now. #81 good to go
  17. Yea-happens all the time-that's why privates have zero representation on TSSAA board(and probably never will) /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> No whining here-we made the choice to send my kids there for several reasons, despite going to public school my whole life. By the way, everything on our campus has been built by the parents outside of tuition so we'll get there eventually -- you can even come and help us break in the new bathrooms /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  18. Correct about #23-he hadn't played any organized sports until this year. Coach B did put him at WR 3-4 plays in one game early but no more since. He has a lot to learn (see punt returns) but he is a gifted athlete.
  19. FootballDad is correct--we are in the midst of fundraising to add to the campus center-wrestling room, concession, bathrooms, storage--little over half way there so maybe in 2010 our kids can celebrate their senior year with bathrooms /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />. Few wins would be nice too. Alcoa played a great game as usual and handled themselves on the sidelines well too (from a chain gang perspective). Class acts on the field Friday. You Alcoa dads(fans) have to remember something--we've been playing for eight years so that fact that we can play at the level we are is pretty encouraging to us. We have many things to improve (besides the toilets). But, we still get excited in seeing progress and our kids playing tough for 4 quarters. Hey Rankinated-thanks for the post re calling out players--seems out of place to me-not my kids, but still outside of the usual Alcoa posts. The graphics are pretty funny so we aren't humorless. Officiating, as usual, went both ways-our dends and tackles got held a few times, but neither set of misses made a huge difference. Bulldogs seems a little angry. Not sure over what.
  20. Thanks-my kids have been on that same zip line before--makes this and the 'ol 401-k relative.
  21. Mostly MTN as they can still travel relatively short distances and play D2. Decision on small D2 and big D2 will be interesting.
  22. This would be funny if most of our kids didn't send text messages about like this /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> We do have a sense of humor here--I like the friendly poke at our box a few posts back-Coach B is a young coach working to establish a tradition, symbols, etc. that many schools have long ago fixed. Our talent pool will always flucuate (that means move up and down Festus /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> since we do cost something and don't give financial aid. Our kids will continue to give their all.
  23. Big, big ditto-I grew up in public schools, my sister and father-in-law are public school teachers. We put our four kids in a private school so we could find a system that shared our values/faith, smaller school setting, etc.
