  1. Thanks Scooter and congrats on another sucessful season for the Owls. Good luck against East Literature.
  2. Thanks for the kind words BluBellz. I've always believed that its the 'life lessons' learned thru sports that are more valuable by far than all the stats, records, and accolades. This has been a pretty tough lesson for my son, but I know he'll be a stronger man for it. He has had to face several facts that all of us eventually come to know like... 'I'm not invincible' and 'Sometimes fate seems unfair', but his head is up and he's come to appreciate and love his team and the game even more. He knows now just how lucky he is to share this experience. I'm very proud of him and all the kids who've worked so hard to acheive what they have. Good luck Blue Devils!
  3. I've enjoyed the good natured banter from supporters on both sides of this one. I'm the dad of one of the Devil's key players out with a shoulder injury. His heart is broken that he must watch as his teammates play their first playoff game in 14 years, but he tells me that their desire to win this one for the team, his coaches, and his community is great. I hope it is enough. Everything we know about Cascade lends us to believe they are a solid and formidable opponent for us. I just hope that, regardless of outcome, JC makes a good showing and performs like we know they can. They have indeed come a long way as evidenced by our participation in this game. Cascade's playoff experience will certainly be a plus for them and I fear we'll need one of our best games of the year to continue in this post season. And that is just how it should be. Let's hope tomorrow evening's game is competitive and injury-free. I know one kid whose memories will be bitter-sweet regardless of the outcome. I'd trade both my solid collarbones for his broken one if only he could take the field at least one more time. A sentiment I'm sure too many players and parents understand. Good luck to both squads. Enjoy the experience. Its a precious thing!
  4. Greets all. Love coacht but seldom post. Thought I would tonight. Enjoyed an evening of good football. Great football weather, friendly Monterey folks in the concession and Monterey fans who really made the JC band and fans feel welcome. Good football. Not a bad game either Tied at 7..14..21.. competitive to the end. Gotta give props to the quarterback for Monterey. #9 was Mr. Versatility. Doing everything from QB to PR. Took a few good shots but always got up and made plays. His teammates played good tuff football too. Fun to watch the Monterey running game. On the other side j.godwin put in an excellent performance on both sides of the ball. In my opinion his play in the 4th finally turned the game for JC. Props as well to the JC Defense and the boys in the trenches. David vs Goliath matchups are part of the game.. but every once in a while a David vs David game makes for great football.
  5. Historically Watertown always fields a strong team. I think its safe to say that is the case this year. We've heard nothing but good things about Phillips and the passing game as well as a potent running attack. I predict their fullback will do his best to shake the dings received against Trousdale Co. since the game may impact the playoff picture. The Blue Devils will need to play a mistake-free game and excellent defense to win this one... but I know they have it in them. I expect a hard-fought match. The Gainesboro program really wants at least a chance at a post-season contest. Good luck to both teams and let's hope for a dry Friday for a change
  6. I too believe JCHS pulls out the win against Red Boiling Springs this Friday, but I expect somewhere around a 12 point margin. I, like most I believe, applaude RBS for their new attitude and the great strides they have made this season. Hopefully both programs can continue to prosper in the coming years. Good luck to all and let's hope the weather dries out a bit before Friday evening!
  7. Croz, I'm not sure you have a clue. You have been dogging Monterey pretty hard, but in all reality Monterey did not play that bad against you guys. You scored on a bubble screen and set up another score on a double handoff pass when one of Monterey's kids got flagged for pass interference. Now I will give you that in the last part of the third quarter your team took control. Every time Monterey would march the ball down the field on the tigers a yellow hankie came out and that is a fact. The opening drive of the second half Monterey drove the ball down to the 1 ft line and your team bowed their backs and made a good stand. No one from Monterey has said anything negative about your team at all, just don't understand all the GHS smack talk after the game has been played. Jackson Co. is a much improved team, but I'm not ready to say they are better than Monterey I would recommend you worry about your team a little more because from where I stand you guys are not the Tigers of old. I've not been too negative about Monterey. All I've said is that I think Jackson is the better team, and since I've seen both on the field, I believe I have a decent idea about them. I saw some things from Monterey that I had never seen in them before, and that's what I'm basing my opinion on. You can throw your hissy fit all you want to. I think Jackson is the better team this year. Sorry. Thanks Croz... for noticing the effort put forth by the JCHS team, coaches, and all involved. We're hoping this year is the beginning of a successful era in our football program. I'll admit that the last three games have knocked a bit of the stuffin out of our boys... but we're hoping to right the ship tonight. By the way... i've read many of your posts. Your fairness, knowledge of the game and local programs is obvious. All the more reason I feel good about our chances for upsetting the H/C staffers and the Monterey faithful.
  8. Hey grub how many kids are out for football. I know in the past the numbers have been relatively low. Is the fever back in Blue Devil country ? Greets RC, I don't have a roster yet, but I do see more athletes on the sideline than a few years ago. We're hoping the new district, new leadership, and all the effort produce positive results. If so, I'm sure more young men will want to join in on the fun. Success breeds success... especially when building an athletic program.
  9. Jackson County's football program is full of excitement and promise this year. The new leadership and all the hard work the players and coaches invested this spring and summer appear to be paying dividends. Past records and opponents indicate this is a pretty even match but, as the first game of the season, predicting the outcome is little more than a guessing game. I do beleive the JCHC linemen, passing and running games, defensive intensity, and special teams play look better than I've seen in years. The boys believe in themselves and their coaches and are obviously having fun. That's truly what its all about, IMHO. Good luck to both teams and let's just hope that everyone on the field and on the roads enjoy the game and return home safely.
