  1. There are a lot of good schools in the area but GB environment is a tad bit different. The PreK-12 experience is different and for those that have transferred in over the years they enjoy what that environment entails. Instant fans from the preK to MS kids. They are like the paparazzi in the halls and commons areas of the gym, cafeteria, library, front office, etc. The little boys wear their GB game jerseys on game day & the little girls are decked in orange & black with bows and glitter. There are photo ops and high 5s running rampant! The high schoolers are teaching assistants and help the younger grades. They see one of these littles upset in the hall or in the office and they come to the rescue offering assistance. This experience of having the responsibility of setting a good example knowing little eyes and ears are on you throughout the day really helps mature a teenager especially when they realize the impact they can have on those they have come to love and care for. They are like future Dads in training. I really think it curbs the culture of teenagers being teenagers doing dumb teenager things and being cool, aloof, & making bad decisions. Not easy explaining to a group of 5 or 6 year old fans that idolize you why you got suspended and aren’t playing on Friday you know. The new guys come in and just follow suit and it is an addictive culture. Word gets around about the special experience at Greenback and we’ve produced some pretty successful young adults ready for the transition to college or the workplace. I’ve been told and experienced that last Senior walk and final bus ride to the “Senior Lake Day” with the sidewalks lined full of young ones is a right of passage and bittersweet. Emotional for the waving kids and really pulls the heartstrings of those moving on and leaving their school family. Some might say what in the world does this have to do with football lol? My response is EVERYTHING!
  2. I hope everyone we play thinks like you lol! I’ve seen Carnes at 2 camps just this weekend and he’s one of the smoothest, most accurate with great footwork, & solid QBs on the field. The good pocket passers are not a dime a dozen. Trust me I’ve not seen too many at these camps so a lot of those guys must rely a lot on their feet because their isn’t much too write home about in their passing. Carnes does not appear to rely on his legs because he doesn’t have to much. But he will if he needs to and won’t shy away from getting upfield yo get what he can. He’ll put it in the end zone too with his legs but not before going through his reads. He doesn’t bail out too early and his goal is to distribute to his playmakers and he has the arm and smarts to do that all day long. Great mechanics, great footwork and calm in that pocket with a very natural strong & accurate arm. If our line doesn’t give him the time to execute then our OL isn’t getting it done because we have the line to get it done! Team chemistry is off the charts. These guys are going to play hard for each other. Carnes is fitting in like a glove!
  3. I hate to hear that! Those boys have seen so much tragedy! My youngest was close with one of the younger boys before they transferred schools. There was about 6 or 7 of those boys...big family. They tragically lost their mother (murdered) several years ago and now to lose their Dad is hard to fathom. It’s moments like this you have to remember the will of God will never take you where the grace of God will not protect you! Prayers for that family! Sad right here at Father’s Day too. Happy Father’s Day to all you full of hot air, football loving Coach T posters! Hope you all have a blessed day!
  4. You have me confused with my builder husband lol! Thanks for the sandwich blueprint. He should now be able to “build” his own sandwich!
  5. Yep & I still typed Carnes while thinking Maples lol! I’ve known about Carnes transfer for a long time and was given the gag order. And they say women can’t keep their mouth shut.....
  6. Hey now! Rephrase that to I am off for the summer but still “working” at home. Men!!!
  7. Oh I don’t know about that lol! I think both teams benefit from playing a little short game against each other. Trying to defend Hodge will help our run D prepare for Loudon & Drew Jackson. Our line will have to battle in the trenches with those Maryville bigs. Our secondary will be tested through the air with Chambers/Maples etc. I think we’ll help give Maryville some tests as well. Hope both roll this season to Cookeville!
  8. So Greenback played the following jamboree opponents since 2013. Will we finally play Maryville or will there be a switcharoo again? Interesting matchup for 1quarter. 2013-Maryville at Maryville 2014-William Blount at WB 2015-Alcoa at Alcoa 2016-Heritage at Heritage 2017-Alcoa at Maryville 2018-WB at WB 2019 ?? at Alcoa
  9. Does the Meredith kid play basketball too? That name sounds familiar for some reason.
  10. Bubba is a freak of nature & a fun lineman to watch when he plays for your team!
  11. There SHOULD be opportunities for these guys! There are a lot of rising seniors with big potential. Great group of young men! They have size, strength, knowledge, ability, speed, grades & good character. All team oriented type guys. They play for each other and not just themselves! Great skills that translate well at the next level. I can’t wait to see how this group produces this upcoming season!
  12. Boomer Sooner lol! DB just got offered by Arizona. Offer #28. There’s more coming and camp season is fixing to start with multiple Cherokees with invites with potential offers on the line. Future looking bright! It’s great to be a Cherokee!
  13. If not I bet there are some pretty close!
  14. I just saw a twitter post from reporter Tom Kreager from middle Tennessee that TSSAA has declared both Freedom Prep’s transfers ineligible for 2019 season. Both can apply for hardships after 3 days of fall practice. Apparently the QB transferred as well and was reported as posting on Twitter he was no longer a member of the Freedom Prep program. Since they were at the charter school and the zone encompasses all of Memphis those players’ move to the new schools zone is mute. Hmm... on on another note...Oregon, Virginia & KU are running over top of themselves in the town of GB and are presently evaluating workouts in the field house. I bet those boys are pumping today!
  15. I predict the workouts & intensity will be in overdrive once baseball season ends.
  16. What seems a little over the top for me with the ejection rule for a two piece helmet in general is that the rule is a safety issue with the full piece being the better option thus the rule change. Correct me if I’m wrong but there’s no unfair advantage to the other team. Apparently a lot of umpires either don’t know there has been a rule change or just do not enforce it if it is even noticed. Why eject players over a safety issue when an umpire can very easily stop the game once they realize it, address the issue with the head coach and demand the equipment be replaced with appropriate equipment then resume game. I mean if it is for safety wouldnt you handle the issue immediately and not allow play to continue until it is corrected? What coach or player is going to refuse to comply? You can’t play without a catcher. Coach could try to argue but what would be the point? Just switch gear and move on. Why umpire continued to let GB catcher play and then after bottom of 6th between innings approached dugout to issue ejection was a headscratcher. If it was incorrect equipment it should have been nipped in the bud and everyone just move on with the game. There is no reason this type thing should lead to an ejection of a player and a 2 game suspension. Now cheating, loaded bats, gross unsportsmanlike behavior etc., those warrant ejections not safety equipment.
  17. Ok Lady Kee here otherwise known to you as Crazy Lady lol (trust me I took that as a joke and not a stab). Just to clarify your statement regarding Greenback coaches....I disagree with your statement that they have a reputation for getting ejected during games and here is why. To my knowledge since head coach Caldwell has been at Greenback he has only been ejected from the game one time and that was last night vs GCA. Coach Ryan has been ejected once vs GCA in baseball and may have been confined to dugout vs GCA in a previous season vs GCA in baseball but someone else will need to confirm if that is indeed the outcome that I recall from a previous game. He was also ejected once vs GCA in football and that was due to “Helmetgate” lol. In all the years he has coached both sports he has never been ejected playing vs anyone else and trust me he has had issues with officiating from time to time as does most coaches AND it never mattered if we were winning or losing at the time it was about principle. So if you want to say we occasionally or more truthfully often have issues with officiating vs GCA at GCA to the point that GB coaches get reprimanded and/or ejected then hey I agree with that but a reputation in general WILL NOT FLY! It’s only happened on GCA fields! Now I will say there is a lot of mutual respect between the players over recent years and all the kids involved just play the game. This is all at the hands of officiating and coaches. I sure bet the GCA players would much rather win straight out without all the **astericks as well as GB players. In this rivalry the winner should be able to win outright and the loser should not feel robbed. It was a 2-2 ballgame going into the 7th that ended in controversy robbing either team of a glorified win. So not only did GB kids get robbed but in my book so did the GCA kids. The adults need to get over themselves and let these kids duke it out fair and square on the field for these are some of the best years of their lives and both squads have perfected their craft for many years. And might I add it didn’t help any wondering the intentions of the field judge that ejected the GB catcher for he was the same guy who 2 years ago in the postseason called the GB player out for missing 2nd base when the batter behind him hit a HR and they were both just jogging thru to home plate. #23 wears a size 14 cleat so that’s a lot of foot to make contact with a bag plus when he says he touched it I know he touched it. That’s just the kind of person he is. If he missed it or even thought he might have he would have admitted it. So to say we are a little jaded is an understatement for it seems the craziest stuff always happens on the field next to the church. I know in life we are supposed to turn the other cheek but just how many cheeks are GB kids expected to have!
  18. Oh bologna you really have no pulse on this team! Ok I could not resist. All in good fun! They are one of the most consistent teams in the state. A 21-4 record as a 1A team playing ranked teams in 2A, 3A & DII and winning most and you call that inconsistent? Plus they currently have a starting pitcher limited to batting duties only at the moment who pitched a game winner in region championship vs GCA as a Sophomore. So with that and the ejection of our ace GCA got lucky to say the least.
  19. Not to mention said ejected catcher who had already hit a HR was just about to bat in the upcoming inning in the top of 7th. Scared much?
  20. You never heard me say that Bass....I heard the same thing said back after the 2014 season and you saw what happened in 2015 & 2016. Some probably thought we might take a little dip after 2016 but anybody that knew the athletes and how competitive they were and how many rising Juniors their were should have known that they were more than capable of doing just what they did. A lot of kids with no real playing time stepped up and developed into clutch players and with a handful returning with some playing time they combined to gel into a pretty fined tuned machine much quicker than many thought possible. So after seeing it happen on 2 different occassions over the past 4 or 5 years plus knowing the core of quality players that would be returning in 2019 I, probably wishfully thinking, thought we might just be okay with a few holes filled after the 2019 graduating class. Greenback has proven successful at filling holes over the last few years. Current state of mind is the potential is there for a run but until they play who really knows. Taking nothing away from a great Senior class but when you also have 7 to 8 underclassmen 8th-11th grade starting and/or playing valuable minutes on both sides of the ball that is always a good place to build on for the following year. There is a winning culture here and that has been the case for many years now plus we still have Coach Ryan!
  21. 2019 Jalen McCord committed to Austin Peay and will be a Gov next season. #6 in A Greenback baseball beat #6 in AA Loudon on their home field 8-3. Five to six Seniors on GB baseball team are offered and/or committed to play at the next level. It’s exciting to see all these kids at GB being noticed and given these opportunities!
