  1. KingGreene, I'll second and third 10-2-4 and ArtusCimber on how well you work with the kids from the northeast. I was thrilled when, after asking my son what *educational* activity he had planned for the spring, he said he was going to wrestle. Last year he was ready for chorus.
  2. I'm quite sure that Victoria Nguyen is committed to wrestle for King College. for Victoria from The Hill.
  3. Regionwise, The Hill is pretty strong in all of the weight classes. SH hosts DB this Thursday so we'll see if DB has what takes to be competitive as a team in the region. The Mann brothers have allways come strong so that's a given.
  4. This weekend is going to be a real test for Science Hill. They showed a lot of resolve at the Cleveland duals and this tournament will let us see what the kids from the northeast can do with the big boys west of the Knoxville divide. The Hill wrestles Thursday, and then matches up with the Bradley Machine and Soddy on Friday night. With the Christmas gift and consecutive wrestling days the match ups on Saturday should be interesting as well.
  5. good post. sanctioned or not, everyone who cares to know who won a weight class or team championship....knows. The TSSAA held the tournament and if it has an official seal of sanctioned should not really matter at this time in the growth of the girls wrestling in Tenn. True, true. If I were one of the girls who won State last year, and was on the first championship team two years ago, I would be filling every college application with that information. I know at least one who has. That is big time achievement for college recruiters. Girls, and parents, should be thinking about the advantages they have in separating themselves from the rest of the pool of applicants to colleges. Two years ago this board was filled with criticism of girls wrestling boys, and the insightful coaches and girls took the lead in getting the movement going to include a division where girls could learn the discipline, respect and richness derived from high shcool team wrestling. It has been a huge step forward. g
  6. I don't believe there is any prohibition for any girl to wrestle to a state championship in the division she is wrestling. If any girl wants to wrestle in a division which is predominently filled with boys then have at it. I fully support the girls in this state that are placing the foundation for girls wrestling. They are pioneers and are earning lifetime achievement principles for building respect for the younger girls who will have opportunities on the mat that they wouldn't have and have not had in the past. The girls who compete against the boys, and their coaches, were fully aware of the rule before they stepped on the mat at the start of the season. I see no reason to complain. Sure, one or two girls in the state may be inconvenience by this, but the great majority of girls are benefitting and many more will share the opportunity to learn by wrestling in the future. g
  7. Not sure of the weight class or the venue, but a Boone vs. Maxwell match has potential for some betting activity...
  8. Another noteworthy report in the finals for Region 1 : 140 – John Herold (MW) major dec. Quinton Carter (RC), 15-5
  9. Science HIll won the invitational, something like 171 to 161 rounded, over second place Cookville. Goldstein (125) and Stull(152) won first and Pierce(130) second in the finals. Lots of consolation winners and an overall good team effort with the victory not sealed until Snyder(145) won his consolation final in the last match of the day for the Toppers.
  10. Science HIll finals winners: Schurlknight 112 Schurlknight 119 Goldstein 125 Pierce 135 Stull 152 Cruise 160 Cannon 189 Lewis 215 3rd: Vaugn 103 Barnett hw Somebody may correct this but its is what I remember. My guess is some of the kids wrestled up a weight class.
  11. Well, then I'd say he's the one to beat at 112.
  12. Good one. I'll start with 103: Aumen from Boone. We need to hear from porkchop before we get past 112.
  13. Most wrestlers don't even hear what's going on. I go to these matches and even the coaches right there on the floor are yelling, "Get Up, Stand Up" and the guy on the mat just ignores them!
  14. Posting results of the high school wrestlers really advance the competition spirit of the wrestlers, imo. I know its a pain, is unpaid, has not traditionally been done, is inconsistent, etc., but for the sport to grow and prosper in this region most of us on the outside looking in would encourage it. At least consider it in the future of your program. As to hoarding secrets, that's not a fair accusation, because everybody knows who the studs are in the region. But the other guys (and their spectator families) like to see where they stand as well.
  15. http://www.nwcaonline.com has an online scorebook. Your school should use it. That way we could follow the wrestlers better.
  16. Lil Goldstein wrestled 112. Congrats go out to South's Tyler Yokely for preventing the sweep. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
