  2. I was glad they were letting them play today for a change, In Central's game with Greeneville yesterday, they we calling handcheck fouls left and right on both teams - ridiculous! Gee.....let them play some! What did Rechis do to warrant a 'T'? She did absolutely nothing. What did she do to warrant the intentional foul one might ask? Absolutely nothing! Those were two huge calls in the 4th quarter!!!! Gibson Co will beat McMinn by 20+. No one thought they would beat South Greene today like they did either. People from East and Middle Tennessee still don't believe how good Gibson Co really is! Also, Grace Ann Swaim played a heck of a game today. She had about 15 rebounds and 14 points (not official). She was playing with a broken nose, a broken finger, and a huge knot on the side of her face under her eye from the Lewis Co game. That girl hustles and is a heck of a ball player!
  3. Well you are right so far....she already has 20 points at halftime....
  4. Westview comes into the game with a 26-8 record with 6 of their losses coming to Gibson Co and Obion Co. They They finished in the final 4 last year losing to Livingston Academy by 2. They have the one of the purest shooters in the state in Amber Rechis. She finished with 34 in the substate game against Fairley and has over 2500 career points. They have two solid post players in Sara Olds and Grace Ann Swaim. They also have a solid point guard in Jacey Sims. Lewis Co comes into the game with a 27-6 record with a strength ranking of 14th and a schedule ranking of 56th. They beat Macon County 58-50 in substate to make it to state. They were led in scoring by Haylee Trull who had 15 points. Then, Kenley Crowell with 14 and Jacie Hinson with 12 points. What are your predictions on this game? Does Lewis Co have someone to stop Rechis?
  5. Westview took 3 charter buses full to the game last night plus the brave ones who drove their own vehicles. The whole visitors side of the gym was full!! I would say probably 300-400 fans to an away substate game in Memphis is pretty good!
  6. The Wizard does it again. UTM Women win their first round OVC tournament game and now go on to Nashville to play in the OVC Final Four. Bet no one in the conference expected this!!
  7. Leading Scorers- Fussell 21 Wright 13 Pate 4 Rechis 22 Swaim 13 Sims 8 Ables 7
  8. On a total and complete sidenote...UTM Women finished 4th in the OVC and get to host their first round game of the conference tournament. What a turnaround from the past couple seasons. Just to think Coach Kevin McMillan did with only 6 girls getting quality playing time and with the talent he has. He should get OVC Coach of the Year because I am pretty sure they were picked to finish last and no one thought they would do this well his first season. They are going to be loaded next season with the Gibson Co big 3, Glenn, and the other 6 or 7 he signed in the 2010 class!!
  9. She actually hurt her foot in November and didn't play much till about the third or fourth game....It was said that she hurt it again near the end of the regular season...She's been dealing with it all year... To be honest, when I was told the score last night the first thought in my mind was OC threw the game...I then heard that Fussell didn't play...Chassidy would have played if she could of...I never have liked the thought of throwing games...It's slimy if you ask me...Maybe he did, maybe he didn't...The Pate situation wasn't a last night deal...She has been suspended the whole tournament..I'm not sure it is a given she will be back...She had to do some things to get back on...Maybe she will, maybe she won't....I don't see where losing last night did anything good..Losing is bad all the time....Who knows now if OC can go down to Lexington and play a fired up bunch of girls with a bunch of momentum on their side.....It's a heckuva risk to lose on purpose....I'd like to think LaRue did the smart thing and not risk a young lady's career on a game that wasn't a do-or-die situation.... As far as holding the ball...If that's what Westview's coach thought was the best way to beat Gibson County, then so be it....Tell me coaches who post on here, do any of you really care what we, the ticket buying fans think when you guys are doing your job trying to win a basketball game ??..I doubt the thought ever really crosses your mind, nor should it...I'm sure David Russell has seen Gleason use that strategy against him plenty of times anyway..... Maybe you folks crying about church made the wrong decision anyway..Maybe you should have been in church... "Chassidy would have played if she could of". Really?? I guarantee you that if they were in the championship game or in a different position that last night's game then she would have been out there on the floor at 100%!
  10. Five dollars says that ankle is better Friday, lol. GC you know it will be. Everyone knows it will be. She will be at 100% too and won't limp one little bit. I think it is pretty funny they did that myself lol
  11. They were without Fussell (hurt ankle) and Pate...
  12. No offense but the energy at Westview left when Kevin McMillan left. He knew how to get 110% out of his players and there wasn't a Westview team in his era that didn't play hard and with energy. The gym was always packed and the fans actually cheered and were into the game. This year's Westview team should be up there with Gibson Co. with maybe one or two losses. They lost no one to graduation from last year's team! How does a team with that much talent drop off like that? McMillan would have that team either undefeated or with one loss. Just making a statement.
  13. You don't realize how much Rechis scores because her points are so spread out in the game. She has one of the smoothest shots I have seen. Last night she shot a step back three that was nothing but net with two girls in her face and she was so smooth with it. I do not know why Westview didn't get Rechis the ball more at the end of the game. That's what cost them. Westview had Rechis with 21 and Swaim with 11 and then only three other players scored. Westview is going to have more bench production and more production from the other three starters if they are going to even come close to making a run in the post season. These two girls can't do it by themselves. I agree with you justaOCfan...there was no excitement at all last night considering the matchup. It was a very quiet game. Maybe it was because both team's cheerleaders weren't there since they are gone to nationals but I don't think the cheerleaders would have made that big of a difference. I was shocked at the way the fans were. Westview plays Milan tonight at 6:30. I heard Westview is having a Alumni Recognition at the game with past players and will have special recognition for players who scored over 1,000 career points. Players from 20-30 years ago will be there from what I hear. Should be a pretty neat time for Westview fans and players.
  14. Westview and Obion Co play tonight at Westview. What are your predictions? Will it be a blow out like the first time they played or will it be close like at the Lions Club Christmas tournament? Let's hear your thoughts. Mine: Westview by 5
  15. McMillan is one of a kind. He is probably one of the best coaches in Tennessee. He knows how to take a program and turn it around that's for sure. I remember when he first started at Westview and it was either his first or second year there he only had like 7 or 8 players and he was still able to find ways to win basketball games. He has 9 players at UTM right now (6 that actually get playing time) and he has already turned that program around in a big way. UTM fans are in love with him already. If he can get this kind of result with 3 or 4 walkons out of 9 players then just imagine what he is going to do with a loaded team next year. He will have this team at the top of the conference and making a trip to the NCAA tournament in 2 or 3 years no doubt!
  16. I was reading the Jackson Sun write up about this game and it said Rechis had 29 points! However, it said Jacey Sims had 12 and then two other Westview players had two points a piece. I don't feel this is correct. I know Grace Ann Swain had her share of points. She had at least 8-10. Just wondering if anyone knew for sure how many. I also didn't realize only 4 Gibson Co players scored!
  17. Let me start off by saying congrats to Gibson Co on the win. Now....this was probably the worst officiated game I have ever seen. Please explain to me how Westview finished the game with a total of like 27 team fouls and Gibson Co had 10 for the entire game. The referees did not have a clue what was going on the majority of the game. It was ridiculous! On another note, I saw Lloyd go out with a knee injury at the end of the game. Hope it isn't anything too serious.
  18. I am going with Gibson Co in this one by 5. This will be a nailbiter....just an opinion
  19. I saw in the Jackson Sun this morning that Lloyd gave Haywood all they wanted. The Haywood coach said that Jacob was "an above average player" and they had to go to a box and one on him in the second half. This kid is going to be an outstanding player. He has two more years of high school left and will play somewhere in college.
  20. Ok first, congrats to Obion on the win. They wanted it more and Fussell was nonstoppable tonight. Second, tonight's game was the worst officiating game I have ever seen! The referees let it get way out of hand! First, you have an Obion player sling a Westview player down right in front of the ref and no call was made. Coach Stephenson then gets a technical foul for yelling at the refs! (I would of been yelling too had my player just got slung to the ground and no call was made) Then there were hard fouls and pushing back in forth by both teams with no warnings or anything given. Then, Grace Ann Swaim is pressuring the ball and the ref calls a foul on her and AFTER the whistle was blown gets elbowed in the face hard by Katie Pate. Swaim gets upset but does not hit her back or anything and she still gets thrown out of the game too?! Guess she should of hit her back since it would have been the same consequence. Oh yeah and after Pate elbowing Swaim in the face, they get to shoot free throws and get the ball back. What sense does that make?? All I am saying is there better be a good officiating crew when the two teams play at Westview because if not it will get ugly!! Again, congrats to Obion tonight
  21. What grade is this kid in? He is a very good basketball player and I'm sure has colleges looking at him. I saw him play against Gibson Co tonight and they couldn't stop him even with a double team. He had probably 20 in the first half alone! I am not sure how many he finished with but I would say it was at least 30!! He is one of the best I have seen out of Westview in a long time!
  22. First, Rechis had 15 points tonight and Butler wasn't the leading scorer for Gibson Co. Griffin had 20. Also, yes it was a great defense showing by both teams. Westview handled Gibson Co's press really well though. Both teams had their share of turnovers though for sure! The game was a very close game throughout with many lead changes. If Westview didn't have to start fouling at the end then the score would of been a lot closer. Ready for round 2 anyone?! With it being at Westview, it may be a different ending!
  23. One thing I have noticed from watching Westview play a few times this year is they have no fire in their game. There wasn't one player that stood out that went above and beyond to play aggressive and go after it. I think Gibson Co will win by at least 20. I could be wrong but from what I have seen so far this is my prediction!
  24. Westview beat Dresden by 15-20. Jacob Llyod is the real deal. He has some moves that I haven't seen in a long time. I think he had about 25 last night. Westview has some quick players and a nice full court press. If their shots start falling, then they are gonna be pretty tough.
