  1. High school football polls are worthless once you get past the top 2-3 schools.
  2. I think it was you that said they weren't good enough to just show up and win against anyone on the schedule, and you were right. I expected D-B would finish 7-3 with losses to Greeneville, SHHS and Oak Ridge, but didn't see them losing this one.
  3. WJHL had that as their "hit of the night". That was savage, and you could see by the kid's facial expression when his helmet came off that he wasn't ok. Even if he isn't able to go, the Tribe's defense isn't likely to give up more than a couple of scores.
  4. Been a crazy season here so far with Covid and weather postponements. We live in Fort Pierce, which is about an hour and a half from Miami. Most Fridays, we'll go to a game somewhere between Fort Lauderdale and Vero Beach or Sebastian.
  5. We usually park in one of the parking lots off of N College Street, or just up from the Niswonger. Neither are a bad walk, and are an easy and quick exit. No idea about concessions. Back in the day we'd always eat at Central Park, but sadly, they closed a few years ago. Safe travels. We're going up to Cocoa to watch #3 (Class 8A) Treasure Coast at #4 (Class 4A) Cocoa tomorrow night. It'll bean interesting game of opposites. Treasure Coast runs the single wing and rarely attempts a pass, while Cocoa attempts right at 30 passes a game.
  6. Why would there be crow to be eaten either way? I want D-B to win. Most of us are just giving an opinion how it will play out.
  7. Teams can use scrimmages differently, but you can't hide who you are physically.
  8. Greeneville throws an array of slants/hitches/crossing routes with an occasional deep ball. They have explosive playmakers who are a big challenge for most defensive backs in high school to tackle in the open field. You play 10 yards off the LOS from them and they'll burn you anyway. Greeneville focuses on getting the football to guys in space and making you tackle them.
  9. Fritz is a massive homer. Science Hill has a less than zero shot at even being respectable against Murville. D-B has a slightly better chance at Greeneville, but not by much. Murville 56 Toppers 20 Greeneville 49 D-B 17 Roll Tribe anyway....
  10. I don't know about layman's terms, but..... * I watched D-B scrimmage Knox Central, and they struggled with multiple issues, mostly at the LOS and in the secondary. Knox Central is currently 2-3. * I watched Greeneville thrash Knox Central 42-17 in a game that wasn't even that close. * I watched D-B scrimmage Lord Botetourt. D-B had issues there as well in stopping the run. Lord Botetourt is a 3A team who is currently 1-3 and giving up an average of 46 ppg in their 3 losses. Their lone win was against an awful Blacksburg team that is likely to finish 0-10. * I watched film of the Anderson Co scrimmage. D-B struggled with them as well. Anderson Co is 2-3, and giving up 36 ppg. * I watched Greeneville scrimmage West Ridge. Greeneville put up 5 or 6 TD in less than 20 plays, overwhelming WR with their speed and passing game. * I watched D-B play THS. It was a 21-13 game at the half. * D-B played West Ridge. It was a 7 point game with less than 5 minutes to go. * D-B played Volunteer, and it was a 14-7 game at the half. It was 21-7 after 3 quarters. D-B scored 16 in the 4th for a 37-7 win. * Greeneville played Volunteer and Greeneville was up by 40+ at the half. It might have been 49-0 or 56-0 at the half. I just remember seeing the score and it was ridiculous. Yeah, there are some scrimmages in those comments. The old saying that you don't "show" anything in a scrimmage is true to some extent, but you can't hide how you match up physically against people. D-B didn't match up physically very well against Central, Botetourt or Anderson Co. West Ridge was simply overwhelmed against Greeneville. Greeneville is big, fast and physical. They have an outstanding passing game with WR who can fly. They have 2 good quarterbacks. They have running backs who can hit a crease and take it to the house. They have a good OL. Their defense is big, athletic and aggressive. For all of Greeneville's offensive prowess, any chance D-B has at pulling an upset will come down to their offense being able to grind out yardage and keep Greeneville's offense off the field. If D-B has trouble moving the football, this will get ugly quick.
  11. You think it's about everyone getting a trophy? They don't give a rip how many teams get a trophy. More football games = more gate $$$$$$. That's the bottom line and nothing more.
  12. Greeneville thumped a Knox Central team that pretty much had their way with D-B in a scrimmage. Yeah, it's a scrimmage, but it still gives you a snapshot of how you compare physically against someone.
  13. I watched Greeneville scrimmage West Ridge and against Knox Central. They put up 5 or 6 TD in maybe 20 plays against WR. They have speed everywhere, good running backs, a couple of good quarterbacks, size along both sides of the LOS and are well coached. I've seen D-B live against Central and Lord Botetourt in scrimmages. I saw the film of the Anderson Co scrimmage and saw them live against THS. Our grandson plays for D-B. We are rooting for the Tribe. That said, I'll go with Greeneville....by a lot.
  14. Won't matter in this one. Murville will name the score.
  15. There will be a running clock in this one. Probably late 2nd quarter.
  16. I watched D-B scrimmage with Knox Central and Lord Botetourt, and saw the film of their scrimmage with Anderson Co. They struggled with multiple things in all of those scrimmages, but record wise, D-B is still where I thought they'd be at this point. IMO WR will be the best team they've faced so far in the regular season and I think WR will probably hang around for the better part of 3 quarters with D-B pulling away late. The atmosphere should be electric.
  17. Ease up? Powell and West aren't better than Alcoa or Murville. I've seen both, and I consider that to be in the Knoxville area.
  18. I'll go with Greeneville being the 4th best team in the state, behind Oakland, Murville and Alcoa, but I admit that outside of Oakland, I really don't know much about any teams west of Knoxville. Worthy of stepping on the field with Greeneville? That's a lot of hyperbole, but Elizabethton and Powell wouldn't roll over and play dead. If they played Powell and there was a betting over/under, definitely take the over. I don't see anyone in 4A stopping them though. Their best team ever? I'd go with the team that had the Carmichael kid at QB and/or the last 2 Ballard QB'd teams. Those teams were brutal. I've seen this Greeneville team scrimmage West Ridge and play Knox Central. They hung 5 or 6 TD on West Ridge in probably less than 20 plays, and dominated Central as well. While they don't have a big power back like Hall or Spradlin, they have an excellent passing game and tons of speed that opens up running lanes for Gudger. It's an outstanding team.
  19. It's bizarre how many of these "schools" are popping up. Last night we were going to watch Surge Academy play Treasure Coast, but it was postponed until Monday because of some massive (even by south Florida standards) thunderstorms. Surge is in their 2nd year of life as a school and football and will probably get crushed by Class 8A top 10 Treasure Coast. Unlike Beacon Hill Homeschool, they at least have a website. Last year, they went 0-5 and were outscored 161-14.
  20. Yeah, what happened at Greeneville was unavoidable. I was just pointing out that I had seen WR and while they couldn't do anything with Greeneville, I was impressed with the roster and the fan support they got for a scrimmage. IMO they will be the Tribe's best opponent to date.
  21. I think WR can hang around for awhile, but D-B will eventually pull away. I saw WR scrimmage Greeneville and it was great to see the large roster and enthusiasm. Hope they continue with that.
  22. D-B will win by 3 scores, but WR will probably be the best team they've played at this point. The atmosphere should be electric. That's the biggest thing I miss about games in East TN and SWVA. Outside of a couple of places down here, high school football crowds are mostly a parents and couple of hundred or so students affairs, with most of the students there to socialize.
  23. The Tribe is 3-0, and that's where I expected them to be.
