  15. Privates can get players from anywhere, and Magnet schools can draw from across any school zone in their area. You have a great basketball player for a son, and you live in Jackson. Are you going to send him to Southside, JCM Northside or are you going to try and get him into Liberty? Liberty is cleaner and safer and they have a great program with Coach Williams. This gives them an unfair conpetitive advantage and the multiplier would help by making them play in a higher class. Dont believe the "lottery" is anygood either. Athletes mus get moved to the top of the draw.
  16. All these new magnet schools can draw across school zones. I believe there is probably some recruiting going on. Should they be treated like private schools and the multiplier used?
  17. Heard that coach Qualls has left. Any truth to that?
  18. Girls sectionals should be on Friday and boys on Saturday. Then On Wednesday through Saturday the first round of the tournament should be played with both boys and girls teams playing and with AAA playing on Wednesday and Thursday nad then AA on Thursday and Friday and A on Friday and Saturday with 6 games a day just like now. We then come back the following Wednesday with AAA semis boys and girls along with AA girls for 6 games, Thursday is AA boys and A girls and boys. Then on Friday you play at 2, 4, & 6 with AAA girls, AAA boys and AA girls and on Saturday at the same times AA boys, A girls & A boys. This way the boys dont have to wait as long and every team gets a day off during the 2nd week. Currently one of the AA schools get a day off and one doesnt which isnt fair. AA & A should get the Friday and Saturday games because the small towns send alot more people than most of the inner city schools in AAA. The TSSAA has also cut thier own throat by arranging it so that there can only be 2 west tennessee teams including Memphis. If you take out rural west tn then the crowds will be alot smaller, especially if Memphis knocks them all out becasue they bring very few fans. Just look at the crowds that Madison, Givson Co, Humboldt and Bolivar brought the last 2 weeks.
  19. very good post. Lets put the kids first and move on
  20. they applauded a call, no sarcasm, unlike you and with no intent. It was horrible. Officials should call technicals when they are deserved. The whole team was clapping and it was for joy not taunting the other team or trying to show them up. It was awful.
  21. Now I understand why your title is blankguy. The girl, the fans and her teammates were applauding a call. The official was dead wrong when he teed her up. And you obvviously dont know women very well, it could effect her for a long time, afraid to celebrate good plays, etc. Most coaches make players run when they get a technical so it is a big deal.
  22. Glad to actually hear some real life officials talk to coaches. Most of them say they will but then they miss a call and it is pointed out to them, understandbly in a loud voice, and the official says sit down and shut up. Most officials I really do believe are fans of the game or they wouldn't do it. But as in any profession, including coaching, there are some that dont need to be doing it. Would you go to a doctor who only got his diagnoses right 70% of the time or maybe 90%. I dont think so. I witnessed and have watched it on tape now several times of a girl getting a technical foul in a game last night for clapping when an opposing player received a technical. Worst technical I have ever seen. Her entire team was clapping, they were not taunting anybody. Officals, coaches and fans have to realize that these are kids and that call you are about to make, could effect the emotional state of that kid for a long time, especially when it is a girl. You say you??™re a football official. If basketball is declining so much then become a two sporter! Please help us out!! We obviously can??™t do a quality job without you!!!
  23. Your right players miss shots, coaches screw up and refs miss calls and getting yelled at is part of the game. Everytime a ref blows his whistle, he makes one side of the gym happy and the other side mad. it is a no win profession but you chose it, it didnt choose you. Officiating has gotten worse over the last few years and with the lack of new people in the profession I only expect it to get worse. If you believe that there are not refs out there who make calls because they dont like coaches or fans, you dont know much about human nature do you
  24. The real sad story is that these part time guys who work in factories, sell insurance, are politicians or some other job have more control of the game than anyone else. The TSSAA protects them more than they do the players and coaches. You can remember the last time you saw a coach or player get a technical or 2 and thrown out but when is the last time you remember a referree being reprimanded for a bad call. If a coach gets thrown out they have to pay $250 and miss the next game. If the ref screws up, what happens to him? NOTHING!!! TSSAA has got to do a better job of getting new refs in the system and they need to change their evaluation procedures. I have seen official supervisors at one of our games this year and it was probably the worst officiated game we played in. All it takes to get certified is $55, pass a test that you can print out online and then take and get someone to recommend you to an assigning official. Its a joke. Some refs are really good and care about the kids and the game, but sadly I believe that most of them are alot like a bunch of people with jobs, they just want a paycheck and work as little as possible!!
