  1. where is the regoin tournament this year?
  2. Where is the district and region tourney being held this year?
  3. Will Featherstone continue to run the point this year and next or do they have anyone else capable?I bet HC wishes they had Trevor Moore now.I agree that Monroe should be on the inside but that depends on what kind of system he is running, have not seen them play this year but they are going to struggle without Cooksey, considering everything that happened with him in the off season they probably should have gone in a different direction,he obviously did not value his second chance.
  4. Does anyone know where the district and region touney is this year?
  5. Considering the season the football team had I don't think there is very much that the football coach can show the basketball team about being physical.CA is one of the top 5 teams in the state and without injury they will breeze thru the district and region.Mcewen looks to be the second best team right now, very impressed with them and after looking at their schedule they could be an 18-20 game winner and when the tournaments roll around they will be way overrated, that schedule is soft.HC will be much better at the end of the year than they are now as will Heritage.NC and ER are also in the mix.
  6. CA is definitely the class of the district.Houston Co.,Mcewen,NCS,ER,and Heritage could finish 2-6 in any order, with Merrol Hyde and Jo Byrns at the bottom.HC is stuggling right now but they have a great PG and a couple of big kids that are good, they should be tough by the end of the year.NCS is probably the second best team right now, they have great shooters and a great coach.Mcewen is better than I expected,ER has Woodard and a couple of shooters,I saw Heritage get beat by 40 to Sycamore and loved watching Petrone squirm on the bench, they have a big kid that is and a couple of decent shooters but cannot handle any pressure and have absolutely no depth.Merrol Hyde is probably a little better than JB but that doesn't say anything.IT will be an interesting year.
  7. What is Houston Co starting lineup.I saw the box score did not have Monroe,Featherstone,or Roper-Did they just not score or not play,I thought Monroe would have a good year.
  8. JB can name the score. It will be at least 40-0 at the half.
  9. No it will not be competitive. This is the worst HC team ever, and that says alot since HC has such bad teams for the last 25 years. They have only scored 40 points total in the last 15 games, that's less than three points a game. They had -9 total yards and seven lost fumbles against Stewart Co.The starting QB is 5'5 and 135lbs.It will be a 40 point game by the half.I am a HC alum and it is sad what is happening there,I bet people wish they had Coach Busey back.I live in the area and wish I could go to the game but I'll be in Knoxville for the UT game.
  10. why is Houston Co bad every year,I think they have only won one playoff game in the last 25 years! There is no excuse for this with the level of pure athletic ability in the county.
  11. Are there any new developments?Has Coach Cox met with the team and is everyone still with them that should be?
  12. Jody Wright at Fulton is one of the best coaches in the state,so he was on staff with an excellent mentor, that does not always lead to success but hopefully it will.I guess your top 7 or 8 would be Cooksey,Featherstone,Barnes,Monroe,Skelton,Hammond and Roper.Am I leaving anyone out and are there any sophomores that could be ready to play?Skelton could be dominant IF he would hustle and play more consistently, but the good thing is what he lacks in terms of effort and intensity Barnes and Monroe make up for.Skelton has very soft hands and good touch which is very rare for someone his size.
  13. Are they returning everyone that they should? Why did Cooksey not go to camp and who played well this summer? What is the prevailing opinion on the progression of the Skelton kid, will he step up big? What school was Coach Cox at before he was hired?
  14. First of all I am from Houston County and I am proud of it regardless of what happens.Scott is a good coach and would have done a good job but he did not get the job and everyone knows why.I strongly encourage everyone to set aside their anger and bias and support the new coach.I do not know him or anything about him and I hope that he is as good as I have been told.I don't even know his first name or what schools he was at prior to now.The prevailing theme in many of these posts was that they should hire from within no matter what. Are you people SERIOUS?Houston County is one of the smallest counties in the state and I can only think of TWO graduates that I would want to coach my team, and they might be the only ones that went to college and went into education that would be capable of leading a program. Please don't be shortsighted and dismiss all "OUTSIDERS",that sounds like you yearn for the glorious 1950's,there is a big world outside of Houston County and thousands of great basketball coaches.
  15. The fact is that Trotter wants to get close to home.I don't know if he has applied but he is a good man and a great coach.HC could not go wrong with any of the names mentioned besides Butcharelli. He was only there out of desparation and he was willing, this is verbatim from the only one that could say that with certainty.Scott is a good coach, but so are the others. The only reservations about Scott that I would have is would he still have the desire to coach after his kids are gone. There has been alot said about this teams wants but what is important is the best hire for the program long term, not just because we have a good team with alot of potential coming back.I know Scott has a great deal of influence with these kids but what about the kids that are not the same age as his kids, will he continue to have the desire for coaching when his are no longer there.I do not know the answer but it needs to be asked. This is a hire for the best of the PROGRAM not the best for this SEASON.
  16. I think Moore would do a good job with the team,I hope that if he doesn't get the job the team, parents and community would support the new coach.Trotter is a great coach and comes from a great family of educators so they would in my opinion hit a home run there.I strongly encourage everyone not to overreact if Scott does not get the job because Trotter is the better of the two candidates, but I do think Scott would do great also.I wish I knew who the third candidate was and who is going to be AD,I think Orville Mccullough would be great.
  17. Heard from the top that Scott Moore has no chance to be hired, but let's say they were wrong I would assume that his kids would come and play for him and HC would be even deeper.I can assure you that Pete is not going anywhere, even if Sanderson were gone at Lipscomb. The AD is Phillip Hutcheson who Pete played with and has maintained a relationship with after college.
  18. Scott Moore would be a good hire, but Trotter at Summertown would be a better one and I hear he wants to be close to home. They have a great baseball coach who also coaches middle school basketball but he would be in way over his head at the next level.Whoever takes it is inheriting a good team that could make some noise.
  19. Where is this being played? There is no way that gym holds 1,000 people, once Collinwood gets there I think they will be in for a huge surprise if it's at CA's little crackerbox.
  20. This is very simiarlar to what was conveyed to me,if we could get Summertown coach that would be great-if LC retires.IT would be a mixed bag of emotion if he did,I do have respect for the man and I know it must be an incredibly tough decision for him.
  21. Gordon and Woodcock would be a huge reach,I was just naming guys that could be on a roster.Mullineks is the girls coach at Creekwood and he is from Mcewen, great coach but I don't know what his interest would be.There is no way Pete Froedden would come back ,he is an assistant at a D1 school and played in college with the athletic director Phillip Hutcheson,so you never know what could happen there.Jonny Jackson would be good and I don't know Trotter. And yes I do do think Penn St should get rid of Joe.
  22. It was you that told me to get my degree and apply for the job,I was just pointing out that I already have one,and you made it a point to trump me with your masters degree.Brandon Averitt was a 6'6 player that could really score but was pretty bad on defense,he played in the late 90's.I am not LC friend or foe,he was my coach and I have no personal axe to grind.I am an OBJECTIVE OBSERVER that loves my former community.I guess our fundamental disagreemant is that I think if he cannot commit fully to the job and perform at an adequate level according to talent that he should hang it up.You on the other hand think that he has earned him a lifetime achievement award that allows him to coach as long as he wishes no matter his performance.I think this is an incredible disservice to the players that he currently has, they deserve someone to give it everything they have, and it's sad to say he can't do that anymore.I don't know who would be interested or who would come.I do know that the girls coach has been around basketball his entire life and played college ball, but I know he lacks experience.Stewart County made a great hire last year, maybe they could get Tom Mullinicks to come over from Creekwood.I know if Scott Moore would have stuck around and that other stuff hadn't happened,it would have been his job.Did you play at HC?I apologize for calling you a jerk.
  23. I NEVER HAVE SAID THAT I WANT HIM TO BE FIRED!I called you an arrogant jerk because you made it a point to tell me about your masters! His last losing season was last year-they went 7-17-and they went 5-19 in 05-06.Football is all about creating tradition, the athletes have been there, they just don't play football-a perfect example is Larry Brown and I could name 20 others that played basketball and not football, and a side note a big reason they don't play is LC discourages it.Houston County didn't even have a baseball program until 1989.Orville Mccullough has done an incredible job,and he is the perfect example of the type of coach the basketball program needs. You ask how many players have went on to play college ball since 92,I can only think of one and that was Andy Ross.I think many were good enough to at least play Junior college ball--Jason Horn,Coby Clark,Brando Averitt,CJ Cooksey,Jon Beechum,Brian Skelton,Chris Norfleet,Jonathan Bell and Ethan Dillard, now for a class A school that is alot of talent-and that talent pales in comparison to the good years of 92 and prior.Don't you also think it's part of a coaches job to help get kids get placed or at least get a look in front of college coaches. He has never done well in this department. He has a 108-105 record this decade,a good district tourney record of 13-6 and a poor region record of 1-5.He is also 0-2 in the state tourney to the same team that had much less talent both times, lack of preparation for either game. Two of those losses were to CPA in region which had a well coached team that had a couple of good football players on the team.East Robertson doesn't have any better athletes than HC but their program is traditionally much better than ours,Mcewen definitely has less athletes than HC but coach Ross always gets the most out of them.I do not want him to be fired but I do want him to realize that he is half of what he used to be,and half of is not fair to the kids, the fans,or the community.
  24. I remember that one well, they almost pulled it out against Boomer Herndon and DCA,they beat Goodpasture in the first round.
