  1. Of course I am biased, I have a son that plays for Harpeth, not to mention watching most of the kids play baseball for the last decade. I am just so ready to see some BASEBALL!
  2. WE got quite a bit of work done at THE ROCK in spite of the cold weather and still having snow on the ground. I am so glad to be able to get under way with some real practice beginning today. We have our first scrimmage coming up and will be able to tell alittle more about where we are pitching wise after that. Kinda hard to tell till they throw at live batters.
  3. Alright lets get it started.....how do you see the district looking this year? The boys at Harpeth are looking good, lots of returning talent. They lack the big stick power of Dalton Davis, but up and down the line-up they should be very strong. Pitching will be good, Presley will return as the ace, with lots of arms under him. It will be interesting to see who steps up to fill the other District starter spots. Coach Jones and Coach Pomeroy have had a year to get their system in place and the boys have bought in totally. They are disciplined and hungry to get started. I can't wait for the snow to melt and get out on the field!
  4. Hats off to Creekwood, Harpeth had nothing at the plate yesterday. On a positive note, we lose only two Seniors and have lots to look forward to in the future. Congratulations to Blaine Marlin and Will Bradshaw on an outstanding career at Harpeth High School. Your leadership will be tough to replace and I wish you both the best of luck in your future. Thanks also to Coach Jones, Coach Davis and Coach Pomeroy for restoring our program to one that we can all take pride in. Win or lose we were a much improved team this year, both between the lines and away from the field as well. The kids responded well to much higher expectations of the coaching staff. I can't wait till next year as these young men continue to grow and mature. Our program has definitely turned the corner and I challenge every player and parent to commit themselves this summer to getting better and "buy in." With all these underclassman getting this much playing time we should be scary good in the future!!!!!!
  5. I have a suggestion......instead of complaining on Coach T behind a screen name, just go talk to Coach Jones. He is a reasonable man and I am certain would love to discuss your concerns on an individual basis. Just a thought.
  6. thanks to all of you guys for the kind thoughts and prayer for Harpeth and others. We are back on our field as of today. Looking forward to some ball next week.
  7. Why KS a poet and didn't know it. I am most impressed with your song writing ability. A career change perhaps?????
  8. haha yeah harpeths gonna need him to have a "speedy" recovery cause that loss was a fluke, creek wood was playin their "D" game and harpeths was their "A" game and barely got away with win,,,it wont happen again trust me Here is your quote, when you lead off with a laugh it kinda sets the tone for your thoughts. A player taking a fastball to the head resulting in a concussion is not funny nor does it need to be made light of. You don't have to stop posting, just use a little common sense and pull for your team to play their best. We will wait and see how the year plays out. Too bad about the undefeated season, I guess it was appropriate that Harpeth be the one to spoil that.
  9. Emotionally charged series are what makes High School baseball so good. You can really tell when the games mean so much to the kids. I think this season has been much better as far as the rivalries go. Creekwood had very vocal fans in attendance at the Rock and that justs adds to the atmosphere. I think both teams have some respect for the others ability, they just really enjoy beating each other. When it comes to a player getting injured, Ouryear needs to keep his mouth shut. It was clearly unintentional and could have been much worse. We dont want to get that started, just play the game!
  10. OpinionDad, You know its really easy to stand on the hill and take long range shots at a coach. I am sure if you would just speak to Coach Jones and explain to him your son's special requirements he would be very accomodating. heck, lets just start making working on the field voluntary, so as not to infringe on any of the players civil liberties. Or maybe we could contact the Nashville Sounds ground crew and see what they would charge to maintain our field, we got tons of money. Or, we could just get on board and quit with the BS. I can't figure opiniondad out, one post he likes what he sees, the next time he takes a shot, the next time he likey the attitude and discipline. Give me a break, how do you think you develop the right attitude and the discipline? Everyone does the work! In a very short period of time this new coaching staff has accomplished everything we could have ever asked them to do, except one thing. I can't figure out if they have one more whiner on the team that is spreading a virus or just a parent who likes to get us all fired up. If their is a player on this team who is not happy with the current state of HARPETH, go to the coaches and talk to them. If you can't or are unwilling to do that, please just keep your negativity to yourself. We got way too much positive energy going on right now to let one little INDIAN bring us down!! Called out again!! Scott Willcutt Scott Willcutt
  11. Not knowing Cheatham's depth it's hard to say when he should have pulled him. Harpeth rocked the first pitcher early and often. Was the first pitcher a freshman, he looked young? Don't feel too bad, Harpeth continued on the hot streak pounding out 15 runs last night against MLK. This Harpeth team has the offense rolling for it to be this early. I attribute alot of that to Coach Pomeroy, he is a hitter's coach and has all of the kids fairly sound mechanically. Granted, things will probably slow down a little as the pitching starts to catch up, early part of the season is always advantage to the hitters. The most exciting thing with Harpeth right now is the team chemistry. For the first time since the Frasier days we have a group of well disciplined, highly motivated kids. These kids are intense on the field and they have each others backs. It's nice to see this group that gets along, on the field and off. Success comes easier when you are playing as a team and putting forth the kind of effort that we are seeing from Harpeth the first two games!
  12. Wednesday's game was a combination of hot bats for Harpeth and some poor play by Cheatham. I don't think Cheatham is that bad, the last kid they threw was the best pitcher by far. With the game not counting for anything I am sure both teams saved pitchers. If Harpeth continues to hit the ball like they did in this game, they will be hard to beat. Not too many holes in the line-up to thro around.
  13. The Harpeth bats were smoking, a big improvement up and down the line-up from what we have seen to this point. Granted neither team used up much pitching for this game. The last kid that Cheatham threw did a great job with locating his fastball. Also some great defensive play in the first inning kept Cheatham from a big first inning. Foriest made a stab at third that prevented at least two runs, with bases loaded. It certainly appears that the Harpeth team is coming together as a team and has some good chemistry. Coaching wasn't too bad either, congrats to Coach Woods, Davis and Wallace on the big win! It will be good to get Coach Jones back on the field Friday. The team showed some real promise last night playing a fundamentally sound game. All of the hard work done in the last month is starting to show, making the smart plays on the field. Since effort is not lacking, Jones can now focus on baseball and really teach these kids at the higher level we will need. Good Luck Indians!!!
  14. Just my opinion but... the administration is a big part of the problem. By giving the parents an opportunity to circumvent the coach. I would expect the coach and the admin would present a united front to the parents, it's the only way to make it work. If the admin has a problem with something the coach is doing that should be dealt with privately. Wonder if Ms. Emery will be calling pitches soon... This micromanagement has got to end. You hire a guy to do the job, let him do his job his way with full authority on the baseball field day to day. If he's not doing his job, fire him and she can coach third base. How many of our administrators have any background or knowledge of playing athletics or team sports in general. Jones has come in and restored Harpeth's pride and discipline in a short period of time. This may be part of the problem, we have come so far in so short of a period of time. Most of these players have not seen discipline and structure on a baseball field since Little League,( if they had a good coach). The only ones that came in prepared are the freshman who played for Pomeroy last year. Parents need to figure out quickly that, this is the guy, and the program, their children need. Teaching them to whine and quit will not help them develop into the men they all hope to someday be. Every time we get a decent coach ie. Fraser, Jones, a few parents feel their kid is being mistreated and cry foul. Grow up, get over yourself and take the blinders off to see the bigger picture. It is a process, you have to give it time! I can assure you this program is on the way up, with or withou you!
  15. The Rock looked great yesterday, only thing that concerns me is we may need more space. New bleachers only hold 70 or so people, and the place was packed for a scrimmage. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT WE WILL DO FOR A DISTRICT GAME.As far as the scrimmage being on Sunday, it was originally scheduled for Saturday, the field needed one more day to dry. Practice over working on the field is a non issue, most of the field work has been done in addition to the normal practice. If we don't get the kids involved in improving the place how can we expect them to take pride in their facilities. I drove up to the field this morning and was pleased to find, not one piece of trash anywhere, every tool put away, the field looked great. That was the kids doing after playing their scrimmage yesterday. I believe it changes their whole mindset when they can take great pride in their facility. The only thing we need is more workers and less parking lot critics! There is still much to do, but I will assure you that by the time we are finished, Harpeth will have the showcase facility that this team deserves to play on. GO INDIANS!!!!
  16. Harpeth got beat badly by a hot Sycamore team. Harpeth played young and out of control, don't know how many turnovers they had. Not a good start for this young team.
  17. Mark Moore at Harpeth High school is just a sophomore but has the potential to be one of the best behind the plate. Cannon for an arm, and unbelievable work ethic will push this kid to the top in the near future. The last time I saw talent like this at Harpeth was Cody Pomeroy, a couple of years ago. Mark needs to continue to work on his hitting to maximize his impact.
  18. Trey is first and foremost a leader, this is the most important asset any player can have. I have seen him all year helping every player on the court. He shouts instructions and encouragement even when he is on the bench. He is constantly challenging his team with his words and actions. He has definately earned the respect of every player on Hapeth's team. He is also very unselfish, which is tough when you have the weight of the team on your shoulders. I wish we had more like him.
