  1. Anyone see the scrimmage.....score & thoughts
  2. I totally agree with you. Johnson, #14, is definitely the best running back on the team. His long TD run against AE was a thing of beauty. I can see him being one of the best backs in the district. Perez is also a dangerous running back that can break it on any run. Hudson I always thought had a lot of potential but he has been very inconsistent and fumbles too much. It is almost guaranteed that if he starts against DB there will be a fumble. Why did I say that..be optimistic. The QB (#4) needs to stick with the short, safe passing game utilizing his running backs. He does not have the strong arm that Browning had, or his accuracy. Mid-long passes are prone to being picked off. I think the offensive line is a strong point. Yes they are young, but the freshman starters from last year were very good........Purty can attest to that. They will need a very strong pass rush or a good QB will pick them apart. If the starters can play Alcoa about even..... things will look very promising. My 2 cents....
  3. I watched for about an hour. The first 2 possessions Farragut did not look very good. Fumble, then an interception and barely held AE at the 2 yard line. Then Farragut woke up......2 touchdowns on their next 2 possessions and they looked very good. The defense also looked good. Stopped AE on their possessions. The pass defense still needs a lot of improvement. A team with a good passing game will give them trouble. Not sure what happened after that. When I left it was 14-0 Farragut. Maybe someone else can fill in the rest.
  4. Final: Farragut 11 David Crockett 1

    3aaa vs 4aaa

It is disappointing that some have to use this message board to snipe at others. It serves no real purpose. I was at the Farragut vs Powell game and had the following observations: Owenby pitched great. No other pitcher/team had shut down Farragut, 0 runs, for 7 innings this year, 40 games. I tip my hat to Powell and Owenby. Pfeifer also pitched great, a little better than Owenby and won the game thanks to Bennett. Both teams played very well and deserved to win. Tonight Halls vs Farragut should also be a very good game. It will come down to pitching, same as the previous 2 games were (2-0 & 3-1). If Williams pitches for Farragut, and pitches as well as he did his last game, Farragut will be hard to beat. My 2 cents........

    3aaa vs 4aaa

I believe Bearden does have a fair chance to beat Halls due to the following: - Halls only lose was to Maryville 11-5 - Bearden beat Maryville in the District Tournament 9-4. - Bearden has played good baseball starting with the District Tournament, 4 wins and 2 losses. Both losses to Farragut, one was 4-3 in 8 innings after leading 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th. If Bearden plays like they did in the District Tournament they could be trouble for Halls. If Farragut plays the way they have played most of the season they should beat Powell. Pfeifer, even on an off day, could give up no more than 3 or 4 runs. On his normal day perhaps 0-2 runs. So winning depends on their hitting and being able to score 5+/- runs. During the season they scored less than 5 runs only 6 times in 40 games and they won 2 of them. When they scored 5 or more runs they only lost once.

    Farragut 8 Powell 1 Bearden 9 Halls 7
  9. I saw most of the scrimmage against Farragut on Thursday. Some observations..... - McMinn: Pass offense looked good with wide receiver #8. Running game so so. Pass defense good and run defense so so. - Farragut: Pass offense needs improvement. Running game looked good. Many turnovers. Pass defense so so, had trouble stopping #8 and good against the run. Remember this is only spring scrimmage with a lot of non starters playing.
  10. I looked on the internet to see what professionals say about pitch counts for high school pitches. I could not find any articles where professionals said that it was okay for high school kids to pitch 150 pitches in a game. I did find many that thought it could be a career ending experience. From the following article: http://www.timesdaily.com/article/20100 ... -too-much- “area coaches say they try not to allow their pitchers to exceed 120 pitches.” “Mike Russell, a scout for the Detroit Tigers , said there are several factors involved in deciding when a pitcher should be removed from a game. “It's not always the number of pitches, but how tough an outing a kid has," Russell said. "A pitcher can throw 70 pitches and work his butt off because he's been in a stretch all game as opposed to throwing 85 or 90 pitches that are relatively stress free. Each situation is different." Russell, though, said high school players should be generally be limited to no more than 100 pitches per outing. “ I think 120 pitches is excessive when you are dealing with 15-, 16- and 17-year-old pitchers," he said. "That's why so many kids are shut down when they get to pro ball. We have to rehabilitate their arms when they get into pro ball. “ "I've talked with Dr. James Andrews and his No. 1 recommendation is to take two months off and not even pick up a baseball," Langston said. "Resting between starts is also very important. My biggest problem is not a kid throwing 100 pitches, but a kid throwing 70 pitches on Monday and 70 more on Thursday. That's just not enough time for the arm to recover." Or this articles: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/prepsp ... count.html http://www.coybl.org/Users/Organization ... juries.pdf http://www.worldwidebaseballprospects.c ... terson.php http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/h ... rms29.html And there were many more that echoed the above.......
  11. I think both Powell & Halls are great teams, as is Farragut & Maryville. On any given day any of the best teams can lose. I think Halls only loss came from Maryville that has lost 2 of 3 to Farragut........last 2 were 8-0 and 7-0. Best to all in the Region playoffs which will probably include all 4 of them.

    4aaa tournament

Additional comment............... I understand it can be difficult at times to find out what happened in key games that you can not attend. I tried reading about the Farragut - Bearden game but I was unable to find a publication that reported on the game's recap. For those of you looking for information in East Tennessee for the AAA baseball results there are some sources for excellent in-depth summaries for the baseball tournament games. johnsoncitypress.com timesnews.net tricitiessports.com thedailytimes.com farragutpress.com (only pub wed evening) There are a few others that are hit and miss. I will not mention who. Please add other good sources you know about.

    4aaa tournament

Farragut 2-0, plays Maryville 2-0 on Mon for a spot in Wed final Catholic 1-1 plays Heritage 1-1 & Bearden 1-1 plays West 1-1 also on Mon Amazing Sat game between Farragut & Bearden. Bearden led 3-1 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th inning and Farragut rallied to tie the score 3-3 and win on a bases loaded hit batter in the bottom of the 8th. Tough loss for Bearden and a great come from behind win for Farragut. As Yogi said, "It's not over til it's over". All the results on the coacht scoreboard.
  14. Ethan Bennett now has 23 HR's, 1 short of the state record of 24 with 1 game to go on Tuesday. Good Luck Ethan!
  15. I thought Maryville has lost 3 games: 3/24: Heritage 11 Maryville 10 4/02: Lenoir City 8 Maryville 7 4/14: Farragut 8 Maryville 0 Results from unapproved website
  16. If anyone has scores for this 2 day tournament please post.
  17. My 2 cents…..I have watched Farragut play all 12 games and Maryville 3 times. Maryville is very consistent, not having a significant difference in performance between playing good and bad. Few turnovers. You can pretty much count on them scoring 3-4 times in every game. Farragut on the other hand has 2 teams. Which one shows up is the big question. The first half against Heritage (starters only played the 1st half) was their best football of the year. They scored a touchdown on every possession and Heritage never had a first down (3 and out). If they play like that they can beat anyone in the state….easily. In some other games it looked like another team was playing. I believe the outcome depends on mistakes, turnovers and bad penalties at the wrong time. No turnovers….few bad penalties…..Farragut will win. Like the first game against Maryville, turnovers bad penalties….they lose. No turnovers/bad penalties: Farragut 31 Maryville 24 Otherwise: Maryville 38 Farragut 20
  18. after 6 1/2 Farragut 2 Mt. Juliet 1
