  1. There I fixed your post for you. I mean come on man how can you honestly say Wilson Co. is the cream of the crop in this District?? There is at least 2 Sumner schools (Hendersonville, Gallatin, & possibly Beech) that will finish ahead of Lebanon & WC this year. I mean I live in Lebanon & I support LHS as much as anybody but let's be real. MJ is the only Wilson Co. school that could be considered cream of the crop this year. Prediction: Lebanon 21 Beech 20 I agree 1st&goal. Everyone at Beech understands that the meat of the schedule begins tonight. The next 4 will be very tough. Fortunantly, these games coming so late in the season have allowed a lot of young kids to get some valuable playing time under their belt. Coach Crabtree and the staff have done a good job bringing them along. They will get a taste of what 9AAA is really like over the next month.
  2. Beech starts 4 or 5 sophs on d. There are only three or four seniors that play significant minutes. They too are very young. The winner of this game makes the playoffs most likely (although with this hairbrained tssaa scheme , who really knows) the loser is probably out.
  3. Please explain to me where the downmarker being incorrect played into the controversy at the end of the game. In watching the replay of the end, (as I stated in an earlier post) the play where they attempted to spike it was third down, the refs said the clock ran out...game over. We can debate whether it actually did or not, but I don't see what difference the downmarker made.
  4. I agree turfwalker. As a Beech fan, I will say that Coach Porter is one of the classiest coaches in the state and runs a very classy program. I think the same thing about Coach Crabtree, but I'm biased there. Thanks for your comments.
  5. "Easily" made a 38 yard field goal kicking from a swamp......? Are you kidding me? Don't kid yourself into thinking that was going to be an easy kick. Porter's initial argument was that they had gotten a first down, which they clearly did not, or at least they should have measured. It was definitely third down when the ball was spiked. I went back and watcehd the replay from my dvr when I got home. Second he argued about the clock. As for the clock, had the roles been reversed and the game had been played at WH, the Beech fans would be complaining that they let the clock run out. Clock keeping in football is an inexact science at best. It's always has been that way and always will. WH is a very good 4A team and Beech is a pretty good 5A team. This one ended about the way I thought it would. If these two played 10 times, all ten would be about like this with both teams winning their share. Bottom line...don't you love high school football???!!!
  6. MJ's freshmen are pretty tough. They beat Beech last night 28-14. They killed Beech on the edges with their speed. Beech tackled very poorly (starting mlb out with a knee), and they were in the Beech qb's face all night long. He only completed 1 or 2 passes and was running for his life most of the night. It looks like it could be MJ's region in varsity and freshman.
  7. It was a nice win for the Bucs. I am glad we played WC early in the season. I can see where their offense can give you fits. It certainly gave Beech fits in the second half. I wouldn't be surprised to see WC get better as the year goes on.
  8. That's nice to know since Beech has already beaten them.
  9. This is a very important game for both teams. Neither will most likely contend for the district champoinship, but winning this game is a must for either team to stay in the playoff hunt. Beech is playing a lot of sophomores. (6-8 of the starting 22) There is good talent in this bunch of sophs, but they need to continue to grow up in a hurry. As usual, turnovers will be the key. Beech finally got its running game going a little bit in the second half at NW. Hamer rushed for 122 (mostly in the second half) I believe they will have to pass the ball more to keep 8 or 9 out of the box.
  10. Golddust, you better start shopping for a prosthetic. Beech 16 Hendersonville 14. (freshman) As I stated before, Beech's freshman team is not that good, but they beat Hendersonville last night. Hendersonville secondary could not cover anyone. Beech receivers were open all night. I think Beech's qb was about 7 for 10 passing. H'ville was bigger than Beech, but simply couldn't stop the pass. I would be shocked if H'ville can hang with Gallatin after watching them play.
  11. As for the Sumner Co. freshmen, Gallatin should have the most talent. I think the two feeder schools for Hendersonville won a total of 1 or two games (one of those coming against the other). You never know who transfers in or out, but based on the results from this group in middle school, I think Gallatin will be better. Portland should have some pretty good talent. They lost to WC in the jamboree 6-0 on a goofy play (WC picked up their own blocked field goal and ran it in for a td as time expired) Station Camp's feeder school did not have much last year, and as I said in an earlier post, Beech's fresman class got pillaged by jp II.
  12. Beech freshmen will not be good. Six of the starters from the middle school team last year (7-0 county champs) were recruited away by Pope John Paul. It was interesting wathcing a JP II rep working the stands during a middle school game. (true story)
  13. It will be a long night for the Buccaneers, I am afraid. They are replacing their entire offensive backfield and at least half their o and d line. Their scrimmages have not been real impressive. They do return one really good o lineman in Jamie Howell (6'3" 300+) and a good lb/fullback in Jonathan Sites. The 6'4" te (John Taylor) has chosen not to play football and concentrate solely on basketball. Beech will be very young, starting a jr. qb who has pretty good size and a good arm, but very little experience. Several soph's will see a lot of time. Opening up against a good 6A team is probabaly not what the doctor ordered. They have also been bitten by the injury bug in preseason. Nothing season ending for anyone I don't think, but there have been 5 or 6 kids out who will see significant time before the season is over.
  14. Beech at David Lipscomb 7/31 at Greenbrier 8/4 Siegel 8/7 at Father Ryan 8/11 Lavergne @ WCHS 8/15 (Jamboree)
  15. They also lost to Beech by 20 earlier in the summer. I'm sure they will be a competitive team. Maybe Beech will see you again in the sectional. good luck to the Rebs.
  16. An update on Beech, they are still undefeated and are playing at MTSU. At Murray, they beat Paducah Tilghman (supposedly one of the best teams in WKy) They beat Hunters Lane (sectional team returning everybody) at Middle. BTW, they beat Siegel by 23.
  17. I also heard that Taylor had 20 rebounds, but I hesitate to mention that. Starfan may have a coronary. I never did hear the final score. How much did Beech win by?
  18. I was not there, just repeating what I was told by more than one person who was there. Everyone plays lots of games at camp. If you're supposed to be one of the best teams in the state with a returning AAA Mr. Bb finalist, you should be able to beat a team that lost three starters from last year. I'm sure Siegel is a good team and will go far, but whether it was 41 or 26, the fact remains...he lit you up. Beech deserves to be mentioned in the conversation of best teams at camp this summer.
  19. Beech is undefeated this summer, including a win over Siegel at Belmont. John Taylor had 41 against the Stars. They also beat Liberty Tech at Murray State.
  20. I do recall several balls that dropped in for "hits" that if the over the shoulder or sliding catch is made (far from "routine"), the run doesn't score. (Just like Beech got in the Wed. night Riverdale game) I honestly don't remember any weak throws to the plate that coulda/shoulda had the girl. Don't get me wrong, Kat carried Beech plenty of times this year as any good pitcher will do in softball. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one, but I think that describing Beech's defense as "not so ok" is selling them short when you look at their full body of work . Did they make errors, sure they did. Was the D a constant obstacle for the pitching and hitting to have to overcome?...I didn't see it that way.
  21. Refman - Apparently I did not see the same 4 - 2 game as you did on Friday. I watched the same game as the official scorekeeper who had Beech committing 1 error, (on the first play of the game if memory serves me). According to the official scorekeeper, Rdale had 4 earned runs and 0 unearned runs. I must not have been looking when Beech made "so many errors in the tournament, which cost them the first loss to Riverdale". Somehow, the official scorekeeper and I missed it when so many of Beech's "routine plays were errors which resulted in unearned runs" that night. Beech's D fell apart in the game on Saturday, I'll give you that. But up until that point they had made two errors in four state tournament games. I'll take my chances with those stats. In my humble and uninformed opinion (after all, I have not spoken to "most people" to see what they think), Beech lost the game on Friday due to "inconsistent offense". They simply were not able to get timely hits. They had the exact same number of hits as Rdale, but had 8 LOB including 3 on third base. I will agree with one point you make- Kat pitched well enough Friday night to win the game. Beech's offense was just not able to hold up its end of the deal. I should add one point to my original reply, Beech had GREAT pitching all year. I am biased, but in my opinion, Kat is the best pitcher in the state. (that's open for a lot of debate, and that is ok) To your point, "good teams are known for good defense and good pitching", that is exactly how I would describe Beech this year. And I would add "inconsistent offense", as witnessed on Friday night.
  22. Wouldn't you think that the best over all player in the state would be in the top five in pitching, hitting and defense. I only see one such player on this list.
  23. "without Kat, Beech would not have gotten as far as they did." WOW, now there is some real hard core insight. Thanks for that news flash. Of course I have not had the advantage of polling "most people" like you have. As a person who saw most of Beech's games this year, I would say just the opposite....good defense, inconsistent offense at times.

    Classless quote

Funny the only point in my first post that the Riverdale folks want to take shots at is the part about the bunting. "real world", "rec ball"...cute. No one wants to touch the quote from the Riverdale camp in the Tennessean after game 8. Selective amnesia I guess.

    Classless quote

Saying that you thought your team was better, but that on the last two days, the other team was the better team.....poor choice of words. Saying that the opposing pitcher is not that good after she throws a 1-hit, 8 strike out, 6-0 shut out where only two balls left the infield.....poor choice of words. Attempting to sacrifice bunt twice in the last inning with an 8 run lead.....classless.
