  1. Beech was dominated in every phase of the game. One’s lost 4-0, and Beech never came close to scoring. Someone better tell all these young guys this isn’t jv anymore. 4 turnovers and countless bad snaps. Poor line play on both sides. Secondary burned for multiple long passes. PS. Brentwood is really good.
  2. Returning 5 starters: TE, LT, 2 DT’s, 1 OLB. Graduated everyone else. Will be one of the youngest teams in the state this year. Some good young talent, very little varsity experience.
  3. There is some talent there but mostly soph’s and jr’s who've not played any meaningful varsity minutes yet. My guess is they will start 5 or 6 sr’s.
  4. Beech will be one of the most inexperienced teams in 5A. Lots of very young talent, but way too early to put them in the top five.
  5. Beech replacing 17 starters this spring. Scrimmage Portland on 4/27 and Dickson Co on 5/4.
  6. Maybe the KC principal should talk to every other DII school in the state. They’ve all figured out a way to make the travel work.
  7. He should probably learn at address African American players differently than he did during the state championship game when he gets to UGA.
  8. Rule #1 from the middle school handbook of arguing: 1. When you’re losing, resort to name calling. Nicely played. Anyway, good luck on the recruiting trail this winter.
  9. Ah, going to the old default comeback of “feel better about yourself”. Is that the best you’ve got? Clearly my point went way over your head, so let me dumb it down for you. If you’re gonna whine about a few pimple faced 14 year old kids in the stands yelling at him, what will you do when a SEC student section is all over him? THERE IS NO COMPARISON between the two. For your sake I hope he learns not to stand in front of the opposing teams bench and student section and taunt them like he did Thursday night. (For which he got ANOTHER unsportsmanlike).
  10. Sorry if your big boy’s feelings got hurt. I guess you’ll pitch a fit when he’s on the road in the SEC and the opposing student section says mean stuff. But it’s much more a reflection of the “class” of a program how the players conduct themselves on the field than what a few non athletes say in the bleachers.
  11. Beech graduates 18 starters, but has a lot of good young talent coming up.
  12. Not sure what Dunlap’s middle school being rezoned has to do with anything since he is now a senior. If you are attempting to make these two situations out to be some sinister, illegal deal, you clearly don’t know the facts. The area where Dunlap lives was rezoned from Station Camp to Beech by the Sumner county school board. He had the option to stay at SC since it was his Sr year. Rather than stay at SC where he had been an under utilized running back on a horrible team, he chose to finish his high school career at Beech where he became a Mr Football semi finalist, won a silver ball and will probably have a chance to play at the next level. Don’t think that was much of a “risk” for him to make that move. Another good senior player from SC was rezoned to Gallatin and chose (wisely) to make that move. As for Hoosier, I’m not sure if he even played football at Hendersonville last year. If he did, I don’t recall seeing him when they played Beech. My understanding is that he did move, but it was done more for a sibling than for him. Did Beech get lucky on both of these? Absolutely. Were either one of these transfers a result of the Beech staff go after the two players and offering some sort of “understanding”? Absolutely not.
  13. That’s precious, coming from the team that leads the world in personal fouls and unsportsmanlikes. Padded your stats in that category last night.
  14. Congratulations to Knox Catholic. They have assembled a spectacular group of talent and were clearly the better team. I have to question how much of a sense of accomplishment KC gets from this. It’s like putting together a travel team and then rather than playing other travel teams you just play in the local rec league. Granted, in the current setup it’s perfectly legal to play that way and will probabaly stay that way. I never expect the TSSAA to do the right thing. To me it’s apples and oranges. To a private school person, high school football is about assembling the most talent from all over. For a public school guy like me it’s about taking the kids from your community each year, no matter how big, small, fast, slow and coaching them up to be the best they can be. There’s no way these two different systems should compete with each other for state championships. It’s not a question of who pays and who doesn’t. Frankly, there are so many ways to skirt that rule it’s not even worth discussing. The fact that private’s pool of talent to pull from is nearly unlimited is the difference. I’m proud of the Bucs for their effort tonight against such a talented opponent. They fought back to make it a game briefly, but then the guys in stripes went brain dead. Not sure how those clowns can cash their game checks with a clear conscience after those two calls. But the officials didn’t change the outcome of the game, just made it a lot less interesting. Congratulations again to Catholic. But while you’re sitting around stroking your gold ball this winter, just remember that the three times you actually played against your peers this year you were 1-2, giving up 50 or more in two of those three.
  15. Totally agree. Was talking to a fella from Indiana the other day, their system is pretty interesting. Publics and privates play together there, but each year schools are given points based on how far they go in the playoffs. If a school accumulates so many points within a certain timeframe they are required to move up. Regardless of size, public, private, etc. He said it has worked out well and that over time, things have become very "fair". Didn't ask him if schools could move back down based on a lack of points. I assume they could.
  16. Your scouting report may be spot on. Question: is KC the best private school team in East TN?
  17. Great effort by the Bucs on both sides of the ball tonight. A swarming, physical defense kept Brighton bottled up all night. They only had 27 yards rushing. BEech offense did what they do best, controlled the clock and wore Brighton’s defense down. Dunlap rushed for 190. BAck to Cookeville for the third time in 9 yrs.
  18. Not coming down on either side of this question, but interesting to note that only one of the players mentioned received a FBS scholarship. (Hurd) Of the players mentioned, Sites (Carson Newman) Neal (UT Martin) and Martinez (Morehead?) went to school on football scholarships. Anther that comes to mind is Corey Britton, a d lineman in 12 went to Morgan State? on scholarship. Also not mentioned is Lovingood, current long snapper at UT. Most all the others mentioned were really good high school football players that were coached up really well. It would be fun to compare the talent levels of Beech, Gallatin, Hendersonville and Station Camp through the years. Sounds like a fun off season thread.
  19. The stuff legends are made of.
  20. Curious, how many state championships and state championship games did coach Short have?
