  1. Its really a shame what title 9 has done to college wrestling... Especially when you look around the state of Tennessee and it's youth wrestling programs. The popularity of the sport is growing by leaps and bounds and we are producing some top notch talent, but we are not being recognized for it.
  2. What is the opinion or buzz about SEC schools adding wrestling to there list of D1 sports? I am hoping with the addition of Mizzou and Texas A&M to the SEC more universities in the south will begin to embrace wrestling. You know the discussions have been had during the negotiations to bring them over. I hope one of the benefits of the move is the development of wrestling programs in the SEC. Thoughts????
  3. Coyote Wrestling Club from Clarksville, TN will be bringing a few K-8 kids.

  6. Could this potentialy be expanded to more than 10 teams after the season begins? I think you are going to find that the response will be great.
  7. Congrats to McCoy and his coaches through the years. It is awesome that we are beginning to see TN kids being recognized nationally. TN has some great unrecignized talent.
  8. My son competed at the Ohio Tournament of Champions this weekend and it just so happened that Stevo Poulin was also competing and wrestling on the mat just across from my son's. My boy is 7 and loves to watch Stevo's videos and was naturally intrigued and wanted to meet him. We walked over to his mat and introduced the two boys and they hit it off. I have to say prior to this I thought he would be cocky and arrogant, this was not the case, and to my surprise Stevo and his father came by our mat throughout the day to check on my son's progress in the tournament. I also wanted to know just how good this kid was. My outside opinion after watching the videos was that he was just an internet sensation and that if you are beating kids using headthrows and hip tosses you probably aren't wrestling anybody. To my surprise the kid is very technical and is not all muscle. He is not the universal soldier either, who is out slaughtering all comers to the mat. He struggled just like the rest of the kids and lost in the championship match in OT 4-2. In my opinion I think he is a gifted and skilled wrestler, and his fame can do nothing but good things for the sport. It is my hope that the more children who see his videos will become motivated to hit the mats themselves and continue this great sport for many more generations to come.
  9. I am going to be watching Chad Isbell from Clarksville. (2nd D1 State) He looked good at the Dixie Duals.
  10. Dustin Moon Bantam 45 Went 4-2 with 3 Pins in the individual. In the Duals he went 2-1 with 2 Pins. Great day of wrestling. By far the best tournament we have ever been to.
  11. I agree. We will not be returning unless the format is changed to something similar to the AAU elementary duals for the little guys.
  12. It seemed like a jab at Team Nemesis. I personally thought that TN as a whole looked great form top to bottom to include the youth divisions. There was even one kid on an AL team from TN that went undefeated in Bantams. I am very excited about the future of TN wrestling.
  13. How did Team Tornado do in the Chapionship bracket? Oh yeah two and out thats right. Nemesis beat Asylum and finished 4th. There are alot of teams that got handled by Chattanooga Gold. I saw the championship between Alabama and Chattanooga. Great job boys strong showing. Congratulations to all the TN teams.
  14. I know its late in the game, but I think it would be interesting to put together an elementary duals team made up of the "Best From the West". If you are interested I already have a 45, 65, and possibly a 55 that would be willing. The 65 might go to 70 to make room. If anyone is willing and has enoough kids to fill the roster, and they must be a solid lock I am willing to do the leg work. Let me know. The entry fee is like $650 a team so for me to post that kind of money without a roster or commitment would be crazy. Let me know West TN. My e-mail is jcddmoon10@gmail.com and my phone number is 931-217-8483. Once again I will not move forward until I have a full roster.
  15. When will the elementary dual team rosters be announced?
  16. What did the medal count look like?
  17. I think that TN could greatly benefit from having Elementary dual meets throughout the season. Club vs. Club. We talk about steel sharpening steel alot on here. This is the best way to do that for these young guys. We could easliy fit these into the schedule in the months of November and December when everyone is still motivated and energized. Also at the conclusion of the duals form All Star teams from each Region. We could then make Pee Wee State a two day tournament with the first day being duals and the second individual. We could then crown a region the best in TN for that year and then we could truly see the progress of the children. Just a thought. What say you TN coaches?
  18. I am not sure why there is such a big discussion here. The point of the post is that the West Region is increasing it's intrest and growing it's wrestling base. You can talk about size of the turnout all you like and how this region is better than that one etc. The simple fact is that if you look at the brackets that the kids in the West Region had to fight through to place and win versus the Souths brackets they were much larger. The kids up here are getting more an more competitive, and traveling into IL, IN, OH, and MO to get better, and they truly are. I think this year the West will have their best showing ever at the state tournament, Big Kids and Little Kids alike. The overall point of the hole thing I think, is that this is great for TN wrestling as a whole. Hopefully by the time my little guy gets to high school, TN will be looked at as a contender at the National Level.
  19. Nashville Catholic had the highest team score. They also had a high number og wrestlers participate. There are several that I believe will make an immediate impact at their respective programs. At Clarksville Clay Cook at 125 will make a run I think. Nashville Catholic had some kids that will make an immediate impact. The future of West and Middle TN wrestling is definently bright.
  20. Great wrestling this weekend at all levels. Mt. Juliet did a great job. Outstanding hospitality room too. The jumbalaya was awesome!!! 530 wrestlers participated I heard.
  21. I am originally from Murray County so I have wrestled Bradley, Soddy, Ringgold etc. I am trying to build that kind of tradition up here. Clarksville High has an awesome kids club this year.
  22. You shouldn't be asking kids to cut weight at this age anyway. If there weight can't be controlled by a reasonable diet and exercise they probably need to wrestle at the next weight anyway. Cutting weight is probably the biggest contributor to wrestler burn out.
  23. Enjoy it while you can. I caoch youth wrestling in West Tennessee. Our kids are growing and learning by leaps and bounds. By the time some of these kids start filtering into high school, watch out. I have been carrying kids from up here to Indiana, Illinois, and Georgia all year long, and they have either won or placed everywhere we go. Overall its going to be great for the state as a whole. Its about time Tennessee gets some recognition as a wrestling powerhouse. Our kids deserve to get a chance at the next level just as much as kids from the midwest.
