    Coach Turner

Last night the Walker Valley Mustangs played the Meigs County Tigers for the 5AA district championship. The Mustangs who have lost two games all season (both in GA) had beaten Meigs County three times by a combined score of 31-1, however last night Clint Baker and the Tigers brought their "A" game giving the Mustangs all they wanted plus some. Down 8-2 the Mustangs started nipping away at the lead. Little by little they edged their way back into this championship game. But was this game won by the players or the coach? Casey Stengel once said, "A coach is worth 1 run and a good coach is worth 2." Well the Mustangs were down by 6, so I guess it was the players, Right? Wrong, it was the coach. Now I know everyone will say, I'm crazy, but before you do let me plead my case. Coach Turner is more than a teacher of baseball, he is a teacher of life. He molds boys as freshmen into young men by the time they graduate. If you know anything about playing high school baseball in Bradley County, you will know that no one works their players harder or gets more results from their players than Coach Turner. He is a throw back, a Billy Martin if you will. Sometimes you think he rather be chewing your well you know, than chewing his Levi Garrett. But he does it for a reason. Just like the game of baseball where you always do not get the game winning hit or make the diving catch, life isn't always as sweet as you would like it. That is were Coach Turner is at his best: He teaches you not to cow down to adversity but to stand and look it in the eye and if it speaks punch it in the mouth. Those players yesterday did do an outstanding job of coming back and winning the district championship and that is something they will remember for a long time, but it is not what they will take with them. They will take with them the knowledge of how you must work hard to be successful and the courage to overcome adversity. And that my friends is worth much more than 6 runs.
  16. They may consider McMinn County in the Knoxville Area - just a thought
  17. Bradley has a good one at BradleyBears
  18. Saw a Good piece on Kellen Pickel and Bradley Football on FootballValley.com
  19. It looks like the cherokees will be pretty good - central who know lots of coaching changes - But I don't know just read it on Football Valley
  20. Yea - thats what i heard he twisted it doing infield drills probably not going to be able to go. My board now has Greenbrier advancing.
  21. They were playing Harriman - their ace was #16 he threw around 80-81 and they won by 10 - I believe Harriman didn't look to have their ace. Do you guys hit low 80's? I heard you all had some sluggers. Help me out I am trying to set my brackets up and pick a winner in AA this year? So can you win this game I have to turn my brackets in - in the morning. Do you think David Lipscomb will beat Meigs? I think I will pick them.
  22. I watched Walker Valley and they are decent this year - I watched them play in a tournament the pitching was nothing special and the hitting was so-so. Should you guys be able to hit pitching around 80-81 - I think that was around what their ace was throwing in the Lenior City Tournament
  23. Who do you play next> Do you think you will win? Who's pitching?
