  1. osunut2, Take a chance on kids from Tennessee? You mean like Brad Hilsher from Murville and the big lineman from Sevier Co. Boy they really panned out didn't they. When you take a kid and he doesn't pan out who does that hurt the most? The kid, the college, or the high school where the kid came from? Hint, it ain't the first two choices. When a college coach goes back to that HS to recruit another player, I would bet he has second thoughts about this new recruit. He might be a bust just like the previous one. If a college is true to its word, they will honor their commitment and bit the bullet when they make a mistake on a player and his ability. But hark, they are in the win at all costs business and they throw the player out in the wind and let the wind take him wherever it wants to. Look at most NFL rosters and you will see plenty of players that did not come from top programs. There will be 1-AA, D-2 and D-3 players possibly playing in the NFL. What does that tell you - that recruiting is not a mistake free scientific method.
  2. mtv, You probably still think there was a lone assassin in Dallas in 1963. Wake up to the real world. I know for a fact pretty boy Duncan wanted the oldest Gaston to come to Powell. A source real close to the situation said he heard the elder Gaston thank Duncan for the opportunity for his son to attend Powell, but he chose to go to Central where all of his friends were going. Now talk conspiracy, and I know you weren't there for that conversation!!! You think Powell does no wrong. ALL schools have done wrong at some time or another. Some are smarter than others and don't get caught, others are not so lucky. All of the shenigans that go on in Knox County will finally catch up with those that are guilty - county commissioner or not. papatj, No doubt the old man charged 'Bama for the furniture. Dubose probably has it at his current HS job. Now you can see why Shula is in charge instead of Dubose. mtv, How is Huber doing at 'Bama these days? I'm sure he is getting to play, because of his vast knowledge of offenses and defenses (having played in 2 different systems). Gotta go and cook breakfast. Catch you on the flip-flop.
  3. zcar, No cat in this bag. You seem to be the smartest knife in the drawer - am I correct? papatj, You saw how much he played at 'Bama didn't you?
  4. htv, With your vast knowledge, certainly you can take off the rose colored glasses and see something smells fishy with all of the moves that family has made in the last 5 years. Are the Smith's related to the man that owns Knoxville Wholesale Furniture, he moved his kid from Carter to Central to Oak Ridge to Anderson County? Chew on that for a while while I go fix my hub some grub for lunch. Be back soon, bubba.
  5. rabbleman16, Just how many computer classes do you have at Murville?
  6. htv, I asked a simple question - was that before Powell had a closed zone? All that had to be answered was YES. Now the Smith's situation was a little different. Certainly you would agree if you had any sense at all. Lets see if I can figure this out on my own, without your help. Lived in Halls, transferred to Gresham (which is a feeder school for Central), while daddy coached at Central. No problem with part 1 of this equation. Part 2, daddy gets mad when Central coach goes into hospital for heart related problems, son quits basketball because of numerous missed practices and upcoming punishment (same thing happened in football, but nothing was done), daddy took a job at his HOME school. Used to coach at Powell, then Central, now Powell again. Daddy moved into mom's house in Powell, goes to the Central AD and asks him to write a letter to the T$$AA saying the move was not for athletic purposes. Central AD does what is requested, knowing it is wrong but not wanting to punish the kid for daddy's childishness, consequently Lee Smith is eligible and doing a wondemous job at Powell with 22 catches in 11 games (2 per game) Got it now and understand the procedure. If I don't like the way things are, I'm going home and taking my ball with me, bubba. ps - Jethro Tull is OK, but I like beach music better!!
  7. htv, How did Colin Steen and the lewis brothers play for Powell? Didn't they live in either the A-E zone or the Carter zone? Was that before Powell had a closed zone? No wonder Clark Duncan left coaching and got into administration. Speaking of up and moving, did you just post MOST parent's do not up and move so their children can play at a different school? THEN WHAT IN THE NAME OF HOMINY GRITS DID LEE SMITH DO???????
  8. Just an observation - 22 catches in 11 games, averaging 2 catches per game. For a player that is 6-5 +/- that does not seem like a lot of touches. What am I missing?
  9. T$$AA receives 50% of each and every football playoff gate, off the top, not after expenses are paid. They pay for the officials and a singular plaque to every participating team in the playoffs that denotes what round you advanced to. The two schools receive 25% each and if they travel they can pay for their transportation from this money.
  10. rabbleman61, After looking at your post on the Central-Red Bank thread, I was just about to congratulate you on your improved spelling. BUT the I read this post and my gosh son, no wonder you left Halls for Murville. They probably kicked you out and told you to leave the county. Have you ever passed the English part of the TCAP test YET?
  11. fbemeritus, It just hit me. Doesn't Powell have a coach named Lowe. If I am not mistaken, he is the young cocky coach on the sidelines, with his visor backwards and rolls his sleeves up, that acts like the world is against Powell. I have seen him throw fits on the sidelines, not shake hands after games, no wonder some of the players act like they do. They learn their actions from the coaching staff. Bet old mtv, comes back with something backing the Punthers when he reads this comment.
  12. fbemeritus, Reddevilfever has sure been picking on the Panthers lately. Who is the player named Lowe. I don't remember his name or position played. Can you help me out with that?
  13. Swafford will have trouble finding a job in this state, expecially if he list's previous experience. Tough to get an interview when you have that many skeletons in your closet. MCroadwarrior, what is your point? There was not a question about who won the Halls game.
  14. Halls does not need Jim "steve superior" Swafford. They have exactly what they need in Coach Julian and his staff. They have the best support staff in the world with their administration of Mr. Duff and Mr. Killian.
  15. reddevilfever, You make some good points about the athletic analysis of Halls and Powell. But i think Halls had more athletes this year than in the past few years. This was a good group of players that accomplished a lot this year. It just so happened, Powell go the luck of the draw - had Halls won by 2 points instead of losing by 2 points to Powell, then Halls could be playing at Murville this week not Powell. fbemeritus, Yes Halls is taking up their equipment this week, and don't be surprised if Powell is not taking theirs next week and Central is taking theirs up the next week. The big picture - 32 teams get in the playoffs, ONLY ONE WINS their last game. The only difference in losing the first round game and the semi-final game is the agony is delayed by 3 weeks. Now when you get to the big show, the difference is a silver ball and a gold ball. Murville has many gold ones and a silver one. Halls has 1 gold and 1 silver. HOW MANY DO POWELL AND CENTRAL have combined?
  16. Congrats to the Powell Panthers in beating Hixson. How about that marathon just to get to the field? Also congrats to Coach Julian, staff, and players for a good year. Remember there are not to many that are promised to win their last game. Get your heads up and remember all of the good things you accomplished this year. Get back in the weight room and start building for next year.
  17. Nope, hubbie will be going to the Muryville game though. Don't have a clue why he wants to go over there. I'm going to a movie. Plan on being at Central next week when the Red Devils travel over the ridge. cat, do you know bcj40? He is, was, always will be a motor mouth. There is a saying that I have heard many times over about a bird and an alligator, but I can't recall it right now. That fits bigcj40 to a T.
  18. bcj40, hope someone is driving for you. I've heard how you get on away road trips to Choo-Choo town. Matter of fact I've heard how you get on road trips in Knoxville. I can hear them chanting now: wannabe, wannabe, wannabe, wannabe, wannebe.
  19. powellfan, Look losing to Webb is an insult to our great region. And Powell has done it with consistency over the past few years! I agree with reddevilfever, grossly overrated OR undercoached. Seems like the tail wags the dog at Powell instead of the dog wagging the tail! Learn to live with it and enjoy it, cause it ain't going to get any better!
  20. KFLfootball, I'm sure you have read some of bcj40 earlier posts. He is a true wannabe from the bowels of Halls. Played 9th grade football, never saw the field except for warmups and hand shake afterwards, quit before his sophomore year. His posts are what makes true Halls people quiver with embarrassment.
  21. zcar, You know Coach D is from Loudon and you also know that bigcjones40 can't pour you know what out of a boot. Holler back and good luck tomorrow night.
  22. Stay at home mom. Children at school, husband at work, only work I do is clean, cook, wash. (Hubbie is a self made millionarie). Made you jealous didn't I.
  23. rebelman16, It is refreshing to know that Blount County's taxpayers dollars are well spent on students using the computer for posting notes on the internet. Do your teachers ever teach anything in the classroom? Still need work on spelling and capitalization errors. Good luck to you Friday night - maybe the offense can score enough points for you to get into the game.
  24. Nope, just playoff gates. Georgia only has to send 15% to their association. Seems Ronnie Carter and others are hiking up their retirement funds.
  25. nutright, What is wrong with having a little spirit on the sidelines - nothing! If wildrooster ever gets on here again, guess who redtdvol is? If you will call me I will tell you. IMO the Red Devils will travel down I-75 and make up for last year's loss. My prediction: Halls - 31 Red Bank - 14 Sorry KJ, had to let them score. Keep up the good work. Make Monday a practice day!!
