  1. Was wondering when someone would post about that situation. Saw it in the TFP this morning. Any ideas on what has happened? I hate to see him step down, have a lot of respect for him as a coach.
  2. Its turned into a valley competition because recently that's all thats been posting. I have a ton of respect for all the coaches in that district, but in my opinion coaches in the valley get more out of their players in terms of effort and energy. Thats not to say they work any harder than the city coaches, its just that it takes that great effort and energy from the valley teams to pull off the occasional upset of one of the city teams.(Bledsoe over E.R. last year) We all can be in agreement that wins against the Howards, Hixsons, Tyners, etc..., dont happen very often(not at all for most valley teams so far), but you can be assured it's not because the effort wasnt there that was demanded by the coaches. Sometimes you dont see much of a motivated effort by the city teams, because, simply put, its not usually required. But might it be that lack of energy in early games contributes to those teams not advancing further than the region tournament? Just a thought. Hopefully that can change, either way, good luck to all 6-AA teams and coaches.
  3. Does this mean that the Tigers will be credited with two losses Friday night? One to Jasper, and one to Marion County. By the way, I know in football it was a long time before Whitwell beat Jas..uh I mean, Marion County last year, how long has it been in boys basketball?
  4. Purplefan, I would just like to echo your sentiments. It may not reflect in terms of wins, but night in and night out Stephen has them doing two things very well: playing hard, and playing together. The transition between coaches was a big adjustment for most people, but with time, I hope people see that what he is doing is a tremendous benefit for the program. Things that he has done off the court with the program were greatly needed, and his knowledge of fundamentals and X's and O's on the court are shown in some of the success he had at previous schools. It is tough to pile up wins in that district, but I can guarantee that there is not a team in that district that works as hard as the Marion boys do. Hopefully, Roberts' job is secure, because I feel he's only getting started with making this program very successful.
  5. Saw result in the paper, but would appreciate specifics on the game.
  6. Who is the coach at Brighton? I know at one time it was Ken Lomax and just from getting to know him at summer camps and seeing how his teams responded to him, I thought he was a heck of a coach. If he is no longer there, which from reading some of these posts, I doubt he is, does anyone know where he might be.
  7. Can someone tell me when Matt Peardon started school at Boyd Buchanan? Has he been there since elementary school? If not, where was he before? Any info is greatly appreciated.
  8. I'm somewhat in agreement with you twittycanes. Marion drives right down the field on the opening possession of the game to go up 7-0. They recover a fumble on the Mustangs' opening possession and could've gone up 14-0, but their drive stalled. Then on the next possession, with the Mustang QB rolling out, he gets sacked by the Warrior DE and loses the ball. Only players around the ball as it rolled backwards were two defenders who could've drawn straws to see who picked it up and returned it for a touchdown. But.....the referees blew the play dead, said QB was down. Didnt even look close from where I was. Could've been 21-0 at that point and maybe a different result, but we've all heard the saying: if if's and buts were candy and nuts. I will say that DL did have a couple of TD's called back, dont think it was four simply because two of them that were called back came on back to back plays. That would nullify one of them. DL was the better team, no argument there. Their speed is what hurt the Warriors, that coupled with the fact they only lost 1 fumble out of 7. Marion couldnt pounce on any of them. The rest of 2A beware of the Mustangs, anytime you fumble 7 times, have 8 penalties, and have TDs called back and still win by 20, you must have something special. I guess it does pay some nights to be more lucky than good. Good luck to the Mustangs.
  9. Your poll is meaningless, although it does give you a chance to post on here, since you cant talk about Ooltewah's upcoming opponent and their 2nd round playoff game.
  10. The statistics that were called in to the TFP were not completely accurate. Meigs had around 250 yards of offense to Marion's 484 yards. Which leads one to scratch his head, and say what happened? Meigs was able to capitalize on some crucial mistakes made by the Warriors, and some poor tackling led to big play results in the passing game by the Tigers. The QB for Meigs was very impressive with both his running and throwing ability. Coming into the game, Cornelius was the name most people knew, but other than his TD off the screen pass, he was somewhat held in check. Both teams will have to play extremely well next week, especially in the execution of fundamentals. Taking care of the ball, and doing the little things right will have to be the focus if the teams want to advance past the 1st round. Good luck to both teams.
  11. I'm posting to give a shout out to my boy Barger at LC. Great job up there, man. Miss ya down here in the Seq. Valley, but keep up with how you're doing. Keep up the good work, and good luck as you take the Falcons into the playoffs.
  12. They were too tired from beating Whitwell 41-13.
  13. Jammonit: if you're gonna feel sorry for the boy from Marion, feel sorry for him because of the way his Dad behaved himself. Not the coaches. Apparently you are stating your opinion without truly knowing what actually took place that night. Anyway, game has been over for two weeks now, dont know why topic got brought up again.
  14. When you're dealing with 15, 16, and 17yr old young men, the motivation they have to play in certain games varies tremendously from opponent to opponent. Obviously the SP/Marion game was much closer than Seq/SP because of the heated rivalry. Dont think SP kids get as motivated to play the Indians as they do the Warriors. Probably the same thing when you talk about the Grundy game, although I know Seq/Grundy have a good series going. But I think with the coaching situation for Marion/Grundy, that adds a lot to the fire that the boys on both sides play with. As for Bledsoe, Seq/Bledsoe is almost as fierce as SP/Marion, so your big win there definitely has merit. Marion played Bledsoe during their fall break, and I think anyone would agree, no matter what the sport, that when kids arent in school, they dont function on game nights as well as when they are in school. It all probably sounds like lame excuses as to why I would still put Marion ahead of Sequatchie, but I know of many people on here that argue certain polls because of ranking teams higher than a team that has already beat them. Personally, I think Marion has a better team, but hey, thats what this board is for, a good debate. And I agree, unfortunately, though, that NJ would be at the top if they too were included.
  15. I forgot to include Tyner in my earlier post as tough competition from Chatt. for the Valley teams, but IceCold is right, its usually a battle for spots 5-9 between one Chatt. team and the remaining Seq. Valley teams. Every now and then there's an upset or two(Bledsoe over higher seeded E.R. last year), but most of the time its a dogfight to see who stays out of the cellar for the valley schools.
  16. Whitwell has hired Nathan Powell, a former player for the Tigers, to replace Aaron Collins as their basketball coach. He will do a good job with them, but it will take time. As always, they, along with SP must compete with Lookout Valley and Chattanooga Christian. As for SP, they too, have a new coach in Ryan Lewis who steps in for Terry Siler. The Pirates return three starters from a team that won 20 ballgames last year. They should be just as strong this year, maybe better. With the other valley schools, who have the enjoyment of competing against the likes of CSAS, Howard, Hixson, and East Ridge, I believe that Sequatchie is probably the better of the four valley teams in this district. Jason Smith does an unbelievable job with his young men and he's got some size thats tough to match up with. Grundy will, of course, have the imcomparable Mr. Dustin Fults, the do-it-all guy on the mountain. Dont know a whole lot about their other players, except Michael Ladd, who began getting playing time his freshman year two years ago. Bledsoe graduated quite a bit, but Carl Boynton also does a great job getting the best out of his players and should be ok with the return of Cliff Tabor. Dont know if the Sharp kid will play, but he could probably help. Steven Roberts returns for his second year at Marion and should be better with his system in place. Jonathan "Rudy" Adams returns for his senior year, and, along with fellow seniors Blake Gibson and Jackie Sharp, hope to improve on their win total from a year ago.
  17. Theres no need to argue with the folks from Ooltewah. It doesnt matter what you say to them on the football board, and it's not gonna matter here either. They can do no wrong this year. They're probably the team to beat in every sport. Its the year of the Owls. And Ralph Nader will be President, too.
  18. Sorry to rain on your parade, but TSSAA records indicate that Marion/South Pittsburg is the longest rivarly in the state. People continue to argue this, but its not something that is opinion, there are facts to back it up. Anyway, good luck to both the Bears and the Cherokees, two teams that are desparately searching for something good to happen.
  19. Great game by both jr. high teams. Lots of excitement on both sides of the ball. Expect the same tonight between the two high school teams.
  20. Some people, including me, will see your comments, along with all the other posts about Ooltewah, and feel they may imply that the Owls are the so-called Power. As I've said before, I am happy that they are finally doing something on the football field. With a school that size, i just wonder what took so long. It also raises a question to me, and I dont know that you have an answer for it, what in the world is up with Bradley Central. One of the biggest schools in the state, and they cant score? Not win. But score points? I feel for those kids and their staff, and hope things turn around.
  21. Just quit hatin' because for once your McCallie Blue Breeze isn't the only team in Chatt-town getting some recognition. You win ONE state championship and all of a sudden you're a POWER! Wow!
