  1. Last year the Board of Control approved a seeding criteria proposed by the TACA wrestling council similar to the one currently used for the individual tournament. If a team placed in the top 4 in the previous year's tournament and wins its region, it will be seeded based on it's placement from last year. So, right now Bradley will be seeded #1. Cleveland will not be seeded, but should be placed in the opposite bracket from Bradley because they are from the same region. The only other team that could earn a seed for this year's tournament would be Clarksville. If they win their region, they will be the #2 seed because they finished 4th in last year's tournament to Soddy, who did not qualify this year. After that, it's pretty much a draw. Teams from the same region will be placed in opposite brackets. Region champions should be matched with region runners-up in the first round. Coach Blair

  3. Personally, I think the best bbq in Williamson County is actually a little to the east of Franklin/Brentwood in Nolensville. Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint. http://www.martinsbbqjoint.com/ However, they are currently in the process of completing construction on a new building, and are hoping to be ready to re-open in early February. If they're open in time and you don't mind about a 20 minute drive down 840, I would highly recommend it. Coach Blair

  5. Blake finishes in 8th place. Cameron finishes in 6th place. Really proud of both of them! Coach Blair
  6. I'll pick up where Garrett left off. Blake lost his first round robin match and will go for 7th tomorrow against Matt Cavallaris from Illinois. Cameron lost his round robin match and will go for 5th tomorrow against Scott Schiller from North Dakota. Coach Blair
  7. Officially, the proposal has passed the Wrestling Executive Committee of Coaches. It will be presented to the Board of Control at their next meeting which will take place in June. They will have the final vote for or against. So, officially nothing has been set in stone. We're just moving through the process. I have spoken to one of the board members who told me the only real concern they have is the added time that the extra consolation matches will bring to the tournament. The possibility of expanding to 10 mats should help speed up the first 2 rounds as well as the additional consolation matches on Thursday. Coach Blair
  8. Brentwood High School is seeking an Assistant Wrestling / Football coach. Teaching positions available in Math and Special Ed. If interested, contact head wrestling coach Joe Blair at joeb@wcs.edu or (615) 472-4221, Ext. 3635.
  9. TSSAA did give Chattanooga the opportunity to counter Williamson County's bid. Coach Blair
  10. Let me clarify a little bit of what Lou said. The floor will be "packed" for the tournament. That's the term the Ag Center staff called the process. They apply moisture to the dirt, then bring in large tamping machines that pack and smooth the dirt. The floor will then be as hard and smooth as concrete. They will then roll carpet over the floor. We will use the carpet strips that TSSAA had under the mats at the traditional tournament on top of the carpet the ag center puts down. The center is climate controlled, so humidity shouldn't be an issue. I was just as concerned about the dirt as I'm sure a lot of people are, but once I learned how they treated it, I felt better. Ronnie Carter and Mark Reeves have both seen the floor in this "packed" state and agree that there isn't a safety issue. The center hosts graduations, conventions, and even a figure skating competition. Coach Blair
  11. The arena was the one with the problem on bringing in food, not TSSAA. Unless something changes, don't look for the traditional here in 2010. If it does happen, it will probably be 2011. Give us a chance to try and pull off the duals first. You never know, we could totally fall on our faces on this. Coach Blair
  12. I think for the duals there will be more than enough seats. I haven't seen this year's numbers yet for the traditional tournament, but here's an idea based on 2008's numbers. Paid attendance for each day is as follows for the 2008 tournament: Wednesday: 1125 Thursday: 1823 Friday: 2281 Figure another 670 wrestlers and 600-700 other people receiving some kind of pass (press, non-qualifying wrestlers, etc.), so add 1350 to the biggest day and you're looking at around 3600 total. One other thing, the Ag Center has no problem with teams bringing in food. Coach Blair
  13. Cameron joins Raymond Dunning as the 2nd Tennessee wrestler this season to be featured in Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd section. Faces in the Crowd Coach Blair

  17. Updated Varsity brackets as well as the JV and Freshmen brackets are now posted at Fiscus Consulting. Even though Williamson County Schools are closed today, the tournament is on as scheduled. Weigh-ins will begin at 4:00 and wrestling starts at 6:00. Coach Blair
  18. There have been several changes in the freshmen and JV brackets. We're working through them now. They should be posted by tomorrow morning.
  19. The tournament will take place regardless of weather. When I informed the Brookfield East Wisconsin coach of the possibility of us being out of school tomorrow due to the extreme cold, he said "Oh, we had one of those days last week, except it was -40." Also, some people have questioned the placement of some of the seeded wrestlers. If a seeded wrestler drew a pigtail match, the computer might not have them exactly on the normal line for his seed. However, he IS in the correct quarters for his seeded position (ie Proctor at 160, Grady at 140, etc.). It's just how the program does it. When we clean the brackets up, the seeded wrestlers will have a number under their name identifying their seed.
  20. Varsity Brackets are up at Fiscus Consulting. JV and Freshmen brackets will be finalized by 5:00 this afternoon.
  21. The varsity brackets are now up. Coach Blair
  22. Lloyd, you have a raised a very fine young man in Colt. The apple truly didn't fall from the tree. If hard work gets you anywhere in this world, then Colt's options are limitless. You two are welcome in back in the wrestling room anytime. Best of luck to Colt in his future endevours and God bless you and your family. Coach Blair
  23. tnmat, Gossett's not from Franklin. They must have the wrong school name for him. Cathey is Franklin's 285. He's down in the bottom at bout 218.
  24. Overton stepped in at the last minute to host the region after Lipscomb had to back out. Overton has a home basketball game on Friday, so we agreed to host only the first round matches at Brentwood. Our region is just big enough that you could run into a 5 match rule problem if you tried to do it all in one day. Wrestling the first round matches on Friday eliminates that. Coach Blair
