1. what are you talkin about?? /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
2. is this in sarcasm.. Cleveland was 2-2 in the Tournament of Champions (the toughest high school bball tourney in the country) on top of: beating D2 state champ Webb (29-4) Dickson Co. (23-9) Walker Valley three times (27-6) Greenville who is in the elite 8 (32-3) McMinn Co. twice (17-9) Bradley Central 4 times who made the sweet 16 (25-12) and of course sweet 16 Shelyville (30-7) their only loss in the state this year was a fluke to elite 8 Livingston Academy (28-8) by 3 at LA that is a record of 13-1 against teams with a combined record of 211-45. This excludes the TOC teams they played who I am positive all have winning records in their respective states. So either warrior was being sarcastic or is just ignorant.
3. and it would be something to see two future Vol commits in the state championship game going against each other for the gold..
4. Rhea.. but they shouldn't last long against Maryville.. Maryville will be ready this week after last weeks scare..
5. or that loses to Brainerd.. and for the other post.. Notre Dame might not be world beaters but they have won 7 straight, against atleast a couple of teams that were in the top 10.. besides, who is better, part of being a good team, is being consistant.. Prime example of good teams without consistancy: Howard, Brainerd, Tyner, Hixson.. throughout the years with the exception of Tyner these teams have been consistantly inconsistant.
6. RK/ PR/ Preseason 1. 1. 2. Ooltewah (10-0) Def. Soddy Daisy 30-0. The Hilltoppers should struggle mightily at the nest. 2. 2. 1. McCallie (9-1) Def Father Ryan 39-33. McCallie will rest, and prepare for either Father Ryan or CBHS 3. 3. 4. Red Bank (10-0) Def. Hixson 30-0. The Lions should put up 30 plus weather permitting. 4. 4. 10. McMinn Co. (7-3) Def. Bradley Central 56-7. I honestly feel sorry for Sevier Co. Maybe I shouldn't, who knows. 5. 5. 3. Baylor (8-2) Def. MBA 32-0. Baylor should take advantage of the fact they don't have to travel to Memphis this time. 6. 6. 6. Rhea Co. (7-3) Def. White Co. 7-6. Rhea Co. is a tough team at home, I think they move on. 7. 7. 5. Cleveland (8-2) Def Walker Valley 17-8. Can Cleveland survive the first round?.. history shows that they tend to not do so well against the weaker 1st rounder teams. 8. 8. UR. Temple (10-0) Def. Grace Baptist Academy 36-0. Temple built some respectability in this area, can they make it state-wide? 9. 10. UR Meigs Co. (9-1) Def. Sequoyah 39-16. Meigs should own Sycamore. 10. UR. 9. Notre Dame (8-2) Def. Polk Co. 10-7. Tough matchup for Notre Dame, but it is at home. Others: Tyner Academy (6-4), Hixson (6-4), Howard (7-3), Polk Co. (7-3) I would have to wonder how mcuh of an affect the rain had on a lot of area games last Friday including the Tyner Academy Boyd Buchanan outcome.. JW I added my preseason prediction to the current/previous ranking.. 2 Teams didn't make the final top ten.. Soddy Daisy by a lot, Tyner Academy just outside. Obviously two teams had to suprisingly replace them, Temple by a lot, Meigs Co. by a just a bit. Of the preseason teams I ranked, the Dark Horse goes to the on fire Cherokees from Athens. Regular Season Team of the Year goes to Ooltewah, going undefeated in 5A. McCallie is a close second with their amazing early season wins, just the one loss to Alcoa. Coleman's team looks a lot like the team he will be playing for next year, exciting to watch, putting up good numbers, great QB, good recievers, 1 quality loss so far... etc.. Red Bank also played a great season, they win the Most Dominant Team of the Year, however their SOS hurt them. Although I still think they have a shot at going pretty deep. Rhea Co. scares me just with the whole 666 thing, I hope that is just coincidence.. Cleveland and Baylor were both just a bit off the mark, lossing some of the big games, but also winning some of the other big games. Meigs Co. is mundane to me, I just don't know what to say about them, they are almost impressive. Temple is the Upset Team of the Year with their blowout of perennial power South Pittsburg. They totally came out of nowhere. and Notre Dame is the Comeback Team of the Year, preseason #9 they started the season (1-2) not making the rankings again until this the final regular season poll at (8-2). Big Games: (almost all of them, it's the playoffs) 1. Ooltewah (10-0) vs. Science Hill (6-4) 3. Red Bank (10-0) vs. Powell 4. McMinn Co. (7-3) @ Sevier Co. (8-2) 5. Baylor (8-2) vs. MUS (5-5) 6. Rhea Co. (7-3) vs. Knox Central (7-3) 7. Cleveland (8-2) @ West (6-4) 8. Temple (10-0) vs. Monterey (6-4) 9. Meigs Co. (9-1) vs. Sycamore (7-3) 10. Notre Dame (8-2) vs. White House (6-4) UR Tyner (6-4) vs. York Institute (7-3) UR Howard (7-3) @ Station Camp (9-1) UR Polk Co. (7-3) @ Pearl Cohn (7-3) UR Boyd Buchanan (3-7) vs. Upperman (5-5)
7. RK/ PR 1. 1. Ooltewah (9-0) Def. Oak Ridge 23-6. That's 2 straight over the Cats; the same winning streak resides over the Trojan's who are next for Ooltewah. I don't see that one ending this year. 2. 2. McCallie (8-1) Def. MBA 34-21. Father Ryan won't be a breather to finish out the Tornado's season. 3. 3. Red Bank (9-0) Def. White Co. 38-0. Hixson shouldn't even be able to put up a fight against the Lions, but a win gives them a prayer; coach of the year Daniels, should have them ready for win #10. 4. 5. McMinn Co. (6-3) Def. Heritage 55-14. A win over BC would put the streak at 6; I would hate to be Sevier Co. and have to play them in the first round. 5. 6. Baylor (7-2) Def. Coffee Co. 37-14. MBA needs a win to have a shot if Father Ryan loses, so Baylor better be fired up. 6. 7. Rhea Co. (6-3) Def. #7 Cleveland 28-7. Man.. I knew Rhea was capable but holding Cleveland to just 7 points.. Eagles kept Cleveland out of the playoffs last year and have always been a thorn in the side of the Raiders. 7. 4. Cleveland (7-2) Lost to #6 Rhea Co. 7- 28. Not sure what happened to the former number 4 team.. but they better not take a winless WV team forgranted. 8. 9. Temple (9-0) Def. Copper Basin 48-7. Temple is the most interesting team to me in this area to me with their season thus far; really want to see how they stack up against the other 1A powers in the state playoffs. 9. 10. Tyner Academy (6-3) Def. BGA 37-16. Amazing that a loss to Boyd (2-7) would put them at second in the region (behind Boyd).. I hope they are ready for the Bucs who have won 2 of the last 3. 10. 8. Meigs Co. (8-1) Lost to Sweetwater 0-14. I knew I shouldn't have leaned on them to win out. They were undefeated when i didn't pull for them. They shouldn't have any problems with the nukes this weekend. Just out: Notre Dame (7-2), Polk Co. (7-2), Hixson (6-3), Howard (6-3) Big Games this weekend: #2 McCallie (8-1) vs. Father Ryan (5-4) #3 Red Bank (9-0) vs. Hixson (6-3) #5 Baylor (7-2) @ MBA (4-5) #6 Rhea Co. (6-3) vs. White Co. (4-5) #9 Tyner Academy (6-3) @ Boyd Bucannan (2-7) (region championship) Brainerd (4-5) @ Chattanooga Central (1-8) - this game is big simply because just a month ago the Panthers got 77 points put on them in a loss to Red Bank, they were then 1-5; now they are now undefeated in October and all but walking into the playoffs at .500 with a win against the Pounders. That takes a lot of heart. Granted this will be their final victory, because the Rebels will put an end to the Cinderella story real quick.
8. interesting.. thanks.. looks like 1A and 3A are much improved overall in the state..
9. That makes no sense.. Ooltewah might be surrounded by Chattanooga but it is its own municpality.. not that this matters I was being picky..
10. So that would exclude Hixson, Red Bank, Ooltewah, as well as some others... and Woods is a good QB but not even close to Coleman's level of talent on the gridiron..
11. Having experienced south AL, I dont think Hoover would trounce Maryville, I would put some money on the Rebels more than I would Hoover, there are some good teams down here, but nothing much more than the Riverdale's Germantown's, DB's etc couldnt handle... other than Hoover, and a couple others most AAAAAA schools down here are about the size of AAAAA in TN, there 5A down here is about the size of our 4A, there 3 and 4A are about the size of our 3A.. dont forget Bama is about a million and a half less people than the Volunteer state.. A lot about Hoover is in the printing press, say what you want, but they are the same age as people in high school halls across this great country.. I couldnt say for sure who would win, personally I think it would be a close game..
12. Repeat D2 AAA Mr. Back B. J. Coleman, need I say more???
13. Basically like imaowl said... think about teams like Ohio State, when they won the NC or even UT in 98... those teams played a bunch of close games and even got 'lucky' a few times.. a W is a W... Im not trying to say Ooltewah will win it all, simply that they have played enough competition that being 8-0 is impressive..
14. Thanks again ramtrain.. I still cant go that route, wish they could have a little county playoff or something though.. Is it just me or does coacht not seem to get as many hits as it did years ago.. just doesnt seem to have as much usage.. still a great website to keep up with everything, just seems maybe as if many are not 'passing the torch' as they graduate high school..
15. Oak Ridge better hope not if they want to play in November.. a loss gives it to the Govs..
16. RK/PR 1. 1. Ooltewah (8-0) def. Farragut 30-28- still pulling out wins, no matter what.. huge test this weekend, although Oak ridge is not the best team in 2-5A this year, it's still on the road and the Cats will have their backs against the wall in a virtual must-win (for the playoffs). 2. 2. McCallie (7-1) def. #10 Tyner 37-6- McCallie showing all of Tyner's shortcomings in this one. UT got a steal.. He almost signed with Bama.. 3. 3. Red Bank (8-0) def. #8 Rhea Co. 25-15- Red Bank winning the ones they are supposed to. Semi-challenge on the road this Friday night. 4. 4. Cleveland (7-1) def. #10 Hixson 29-0- Cleveland winning the ones they are supposed to. Tough game against the #7 Eagles this weekend. 5. 5. McMinn Co. (5-3) def. William Blount 46-38- McMinn is on fire right now, that should get them in the playoffs, now on to playoff seeding. 6. 6. Baylor (6-2) def. Father Ryan 24-20- Huge win for Baylor.. they have shown some grit this year, including beating MUS earlier.. 7. 7. Rhea Co. (5-3) lost to #3 Red Bank 15-25- Respectable loss to #3 Red Bank, they have everybodies number right now.. seeding matchup at #4 Cleveland this weekend. 8. 10. Meigs Co. (8-0) def. Howard 20-8- I'm still impressed with their consistancy, I really didn' think they would win at Howard.. I'm going to believe they can take Sweetwater this weekend.. 9. UR Temple (8-0) def. South Pittsburg 53-20- talk about impressed, up and coming Christian school knocks off 1A perennial state power; 'knocks off' is definitly an understatement.. they are now officially on my map. 10. 7. Tyner (5-3) lost to #2 McCallie 6-37- Having a down year, and they will likely fininish with 9 or maybe 10 wins, not to mention a region crown; not to shabby.. 10. 9. Hixson (6-2) lost to #4 Cleveland 0-29- Hixson better not get upset this week because Brainerd will gladly take their spot at #4 in the playoffs.. Just Outside: Notre Dame (6-2), Polk Co. (6-2) Big Games for week 9: #1 Ooltewah (8-0) @ Oak Ridge (5-3) #2 McCallie (7-1) hosts MBA (4-4) #3 Red Bank (8-0) @ White County (4-4) #4 Cleveland (7-1) hosts #7 Rhea Co. (5-3) #8 Meigs Co. (8-0) @ Sweetwater (6-2) #10 Hixson (5-3) @ Brainerd (3-5)
17. Quarles has no competition... football talent in TN has never been higher and he owns this state..
18. Yeah, thanks imaowl, I dont know where TFP gets its facts.. looks like there is only one team from their class in the top 25 and it is def. not them..
19. And this logic formed from what basis? I think they Ooltewah must have knocked you on your head from the week before.. not saying they (McCallie) couldn't beat Ooltewah but even if so, I highly doubt it would be by 2 or 3 TD's. I think that it would go either way based on both teams have talent at most every position, and great coaching. Add that to performance, McCallie has had stiff comp. but they have also been very blessed at times to have some amazing last minute heroics. Consistancy is a key element in a winning formula and the Owls have yet to lose (I see no reason for them to be #2). The TFP said that Columbia was number one in SC but I know people from that area who would tell you they are not number one in much and though they were undefeated it wasn't against anyone special. Just mentioning that so that you know Columbia were no world-beaters or top-tier team.
20. RK/PR 1. 1. Ooltewah (7-0) def. Heritage 41-0- Should coast from here on out although at Oak Ridge is never easy and the Admirals would like to pull off the upset this Friday. 2. 2. McCallie (6-1) def. Columbia (SC) 35-6- Basically won like I thought they would, Columbia was a solid team but nothing special, McCallie however.. 3. 3. Red Bank (7-0) def. #4 Cleveland 17-0- Red Bank get it's first legitimate win, and it only took 17 points, what a defense. Big game against the darkhorse Eagles in 4-4A Friday. 4. 4. Cleveland (6-1) lost to #3 Red Bank 0-17- Solid effort against the Lions, but missed opportunities killed. Big matchup at #9 Hixson this Friday. 5. 5. McMinn Co. (4-3) def. Soddy Daisy 21-9- Three in a row for the Cherokees, a win at evenly matched William Blount would likely make this a playoff year in Athens. 6. 6. Baylor (5-2) def. Franklin Co. 35-14- Must win for Baylor against the Irish this week. 7. 7. Tyner Academy (5-2) def. #10 Howard 33-8- Well, you could say that Tyner got some small redemption with the win over the team that beat Brainerd; they were impressive. tie 7. 7. Rhea. Co (5-2) def. Chattanooga Central 28-0- Wow, at #3 Red Bank and at #4 Cleveland coming up; for the time being Rhea Co. is quitely 4-0 in region 4-4A and could 'easily' end up 1st in the region, regardless they are likely in the playoffs with a win over White Co. in week 10. 8. 8. South Pittsburg (7-0) def. Marion Co. 48-0- Just 2 seasons removed from a 3-7 final mark, the Pirates 'should' finish out undefeated and look to make a deep run to December. 9. 9. Hixson (6-1) def. Walker Valley 28-12- This is where Hixson finds out what it is made out of. Are they paper tigers or are they capable of getting a big win? They host #4 Cleveland and later play any-given-Friday Brainerd, then close with #3 Red Bank. 10. 10. Meigs Co. (7-0) def. #10 Polk Co. 21-0- Meigs Co. has impressed me to this point with their consistancy; unfortunately they have dates at Howard and then Sweetwater, both of those games looking very iffy. Just out: Notre Dame (5-2), Howard (5-2), Polk Co. (5-2) Big Games this weekend: #1 Ooltewah vs. Farragut #2 McCallie vs. #7 Tyner #3 Red Bank vs. #7 Rhea Co. (battle of the 4-4A undefeateds) #4 Cleveland @ #9 Hixson #5 McMinn Co. @ William Blount (most interesting matchup, both teams 4-3) #6 Baylor vs. Father Ryan #8 South Pittsburg @ (Finley) Temple (this would get Temple on the map in my mind; if they could pull something off) #10 Meigs Co. @ Howard Obviously top to bottom, the best week of high school football this year in Chattanooga, basically every team in the top ten is playing another team in the top ten or with a winning record at the very least. Should be exciting to see who really wants a shot in the playoffs.
21. Their losses are really not any worse than say Chattanooga Central around here, they would lose like 46-0 35-0 or something... I think the poster above is accurate on the theory of his ego, what a jerk, its a game, let em play.. if they have the guts to go out there almost gauranteed to lose all the more you should let them play, with all of the heart.. unsafe, that is a huge load of bull!
22. Ooltewah has not been around that long... or am I just crazy??
23. RK/PR 1.) 1. Ooltewah (6-0) def. Bradley Central 51-7. Beat up on the best group of Bears in years (that is not saying much though). 2.) 2. McCallie (5-1) def. #6 Baylor 42-21. Whooped up on an undermanned #6 Baylor School. I think Cooper made a few more believers nonetheless 3.) 3. Red Bank (6-0) def. Brainerd 77-8. Wow.. Brainerd is not that bad, Red Bank just rocked their world early and Brainerd just let go of all focus. 4.) 4. Cleveland (6-0) def. Central 35-7. Better get ready to keep the Lions in check because they are roaring for a quality victory. 5.) 6. McMinn Co. (3-3) upset Oak Ridge 31-30. I knew they could do it, and they did. Their three losses come to teams with a combined record of 16-2. 6.) 5. Baylor (4-2) lost to #2 McCallie 21-42. Still in the middle of the pack in this area with the blowout loss to their hated rivals across the river. 7.) 7. Tyner (4-2) def. Sequatchie Co. 53-0. Still Tyner, they will win their region, but I don't think they will have a big win all year.. just not enough there. tie. 7.) 8. Rhea County (4-2) def. Walker Valley 42-13. In the midst of stat padding season, rolling up the numbers against the bottom feeders of 4-4A (Walker Valley, NW Central). 8.) 8. South Pittsburg (6-0) def. GBA 54-14. They will go undefeated and most likely not move up any further, due to a horribly weak schedule. But that is 1A. tie. 8.) 9. Hixson (5-1) def. White Co. 21-14. Quitely building a very solid season, other than their loss to Rhea earlier. 10.) 10. Meigs Co. (6-0) def. Grundy Co. 35-0. See South Pittsburg. tie. 10.) 10. Howard (5-1) def. Polk Co. 14-7. Consistancy is key for these guys. Big win in Benton. Big games on the horizon. Next: Polk County (5-1), Notre Dame (4-2) Big Games: Doesn't get any bigger than this one at this point for the Chattanooga area. Second largest class in the state (AAAA), #3 Red Bank at #4 Cleveland both undefeated at 6-0 (3-0). #7 Tyner @ #10 Howard- cross town rivalry, actually pretty even this year (How low do your chain hang game); a win for Tyner would be a small redemption for their loss to Brainerd, since Brainerd lost to Howard. Polk. Co. @ #10 Meigs Co. Columbia @ #2 McCallie (Finley). Columbia is 6-0 in South Carolina's region 4-2A with wins over teams of a combined record of (13-23). I'm thinking McCallie shouldn't have much of a problem. I say they win by 3 touchdowns.
24. 1. Maryville (6-0) 2. Red Bank (5-0) 3. Cleveland (5-0) 4. Knox Central (4-1) 5. Morristown West (5-0) 6. Daniel Boone (5-0) 7. Tennessee (4-1) 8. Sullivan South (4-1) 9. Rhea Co. (3-2) 10. West (2-3) tie. Hixson (4-1) Next in line: Sullivan North (3-2)
